+++ JUNE part 3 +++

(Jeremy’s Motivational books are not that good at all…)

‘I would go between Nissan Rouge SUV and Audi A8 Sports car”

“ilan po ba hkayong sasakay ma’am? Pang heavy duty po ba?”

“nope, were just giving it a good smooth ride, how aboutn were eight?’

“I recommend the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid…and the..the…Jeep Luxury SUV”

“ill pick the Hybrid one… me color red?”

“hehehehe…good thing meron..”

its so easy to make car rental reservations through the net, unlike last year, we have to walk around batanes because naubusan kami. Good thing they have their own business link sa WebKinz.com, salamat narin at me Wifi rito sa airport, I can surf and chat the net through my PDA, installed with the new Windows Mobile 6.1…

Maayos naman ang lahat hangang sa natapakan ng isang Geek ang Prada multicoloured Art Heels ko…and were not talking ordinary shoes here…

JEREMY: Ouch! You crap!

GEEK: Sorry…I’m just trying to find…

JEREMY: Stop complaining you dick!

GEEK: (and they’re calling me dick, what’;s next? Nectar balls?)

Look! I’m just trying to find WiFi signal with this shirt…

JEREMY (confused) with that shirt?

GEEK: Yes! With this shirt, look…haven’t you heard the WiFi detector shirt…

JEREMY: I heard, and I saw the color of the LED attached to that shirt were already changing (then points at the Geek)

GEEK: Matthew by the Way..

JEREMY: Jeremy…

MATTHEW: this seat…taken?

JEREMY: Nope, you may seat, but please be careful next time, baka makasira ka pa ng mamahaling heels…

MATTHEW: Those men are’nt tired of that desgn (points at his back) Shirts with One-line statements are very common…

JEREMY: Cool though…(turned off her PDA, switched her Multicolored LED lightbulb and digging her way down inside of the Halo3 Messanger Bag. Blah.Blah.Blah, pulled a book and she start to read.)

MATTHEW: The Book of the Lasts by Ian Hamilton, from last Roman Emperor up to the last Beatles number one hit… you have a good taste, bookworm… (Sniffs and laughed)

JEREMY: Do you have a problem?

MATTHEW: Motivational books aren’t good at all, sometimes it doesn’t works…

JEREMY: Do you wish people think well of you? Don’t speak well of yourself…

MATTHEW: Great! Now you’re throwing lines from Blaise Pascal…

(Ten minutes of BookWorms Fights…throwing of lines from Ralph Waldo, Immanuel kant, Eleanor Roosevelt. Hurting each others Ego with SNAPS and intimidating each other by comparing our voice recorders, his Ultra Thin Voice recorder against my Neuros OSD Linux Media recorder. What’s the latest movie we’ve watched since January of ’08…his “in the name of King” against my “taxi of the Darkside”a nd animated “Pirates who don’t do anything: VeggieTales”. We proved that quotes from the O.C. and One Three Hill are catchy, I love New York, Lincoln Heights and The Naked Trucker and T-Bone Show are good reality shows of our time… nakilala naming ang isa’t-isa b y that fight…)

I wound up with a bunch of good shots from my trip to the beach. Even though the sky was gray and overcast, I was still able to find subjects which I found interesting. Some of these were close-ups of some type, and others were visualized as being Black and White images right from the start.

This picture was made with with a tripod mounted Nikon D700, with a Nikon 70-20mm f/2.8mm VR lens. I wanted to avoid any perspective problems with the tall lighthouse, so I shot it from the highest point I could find, and from a fair distance away. With the way the picture was composed, I wasn’t very concerned with the depth if field, which allowed me to use a shutter speed which would freeze any movement in the grasses. Since the sky was fairly uninteresting, I planned on having to do a little processing in the digital darkroom. This started in Adobe Lightroom, and finished with Nik’s Silver Efex.

Even after processing this image as a standard Black and White, I stiil wasn’t happy with the final appearance. The bland sky really dominated the image and was very distracting. Then I decided to use one of the antique B&W filters which are part of the Nik plugin, which I’ve used before and really liked. I thought that it really suited this image, and I felt this resulted in a nice photo being created from less than ideal conditions.

[last 2007, i wrote this mini novel for a college requirement. The theme is to discuss the present trends in a creative way and also give a glimpse of the future must haves. I ended up enjoying writing it. Even though i passed the manuscript, I kept in touch with the material. well, how about a little serving of the story?]

“Southbeach? That’s bullshit man!”, sabay lagok ng isang herbal capsule.

“Let’s go guys.”

Maririnig mo kung pa’no ang “this guys inlove with you” ng Kilyawan, “Kaleidoscope world” ng Akafellas at “Mr.Brightside” ng Harvard University Callbacks. Mula sa beatles hanggang sa the Killers, Orson o Panic at the Disco, you name it,mayroon akong acapella version niyan.

By the way, isa akong turntablist.

+++ MARCH+++

Halos isang taon mahigit nung huli kaming bumiyahe sabay-sabay papuntang Batanes.

Trip niya lagging madepress at itsurang depress.

(excerpt from Girl Trouble by Alan Navarra)

Rooster: So did you like my poems I e-mailed you?

Tiger: Haven’t checked my mail yet (then placed emoticons)

Chicken: I forgot my password

(then typed her popular jargon) wasted kasi eh

Dragon: Maybe this Friday,

(pre sa totoo lang, gotta follow those chikas pare, don’t have time)

Dog: Don’t believe in the internet

(photobucket sucks!)

Rooster: (imageshack sucks bigtime!)

Mouse: Eyow…Check Ko Buwas, pwamis…buwas…

(its fun to be a mushmouth nowadays)

Cat: which account? Yahoo Mail!, G-Mail o Myspace?

++HuGz-n-Kizzez++: IV3_R3@D_TH3M… (hope you can read this…)

EmOtErAh_2008: they reveal so much about you, should place it to your Hi5 profile though.

Pig: Diba dapat petnames lang ang andito?

++HuGz-n-Kizzez++: kaya walang nag-PPM sa’yo eh…masyado kang nega..

Cat: —meow…. ^_^

Pig: PM?

EmO-tErAh_B@be: Private Message

++HuGz-n-Kizzez++: LOL …hahaha -.-

Pig: Hoy! At sino ka para murahin mo’ko?

Mouse: Ay tanga…

Tiger: Inum tayo –.

Tsk.tsk. )

Still, pagkatapos mag-agree ang lahat na di nag-exist ang clan na iyon, ay nagkaroon parin kami ng contact ni ++HuGz-n-Kizzez++ a.k.a. Tetet.

T-shirt o Polo? Putek! Alang plantsadong white polo.

Giordano Black Polo nalang, me angst pero youthful parin.

Gel o Natural look para sa buhok? Tsk.tsk…

Pag natural, mukha akong wasted.

Dilemma.

Totoo bang guguho someday ang Mall of Asia, at

Neil Gaiman ba o J.K. Rowling parin? (Arnold Arre na me…sikat na xa eh…)

CatDog food ba pagkain nila CatDog?

“On the Land of Women” nalang sana, matutuwa pa ako, pede rin Hairspray” )

Papatok kaya

ang PINOY IDOL sa syete? Paano na si MAU? Kelan puputi ang mga ULINGLING? 24

hours?

… not to mention late. I was making promises for this release that I didn’t keep. I was hoping to finish some other functions, but for now all I was able to do was complete PVector. Hence, the name of this new post being “flimsy”. Basically, I was stuck and I didn’t follow through on Dave’s teachings “to trudge through these times”. I could’ve kept going and found some other functions to work on, but instead I just stopped working. This can be seen by the fact that I haven’t made a blog post in almost a month. Well, enough about berating myself over the past. What’s important is learning from it and using it in the future; which I will do by getting a head start on my 0.3 release. I pushed back my camera releases to get a better handle on it and the fact that there was no easy way to test 3d features before the 0.2 release. This was all thanks to Andor and his work. I’ll be looking at a whole bunch of 3D functions for 0.3 and hopefully I can follow through this time.

Now for PVector… reinvented!

That’s right, it’s brand spanking new! The images above are examples of Processing PVector along with it’s JS Counterpart. If you wish to see the new PVector, click here. And just so you can compare the two, click here for the old PVector. I was also actually stuck on a problem for PVector. It was solved the Monday/Tuesday of the 0.2 release week. I was able to finally sit down and talk to Al (aka F1LT3R). He was able to show me the way to get myself unstuck from my problem.

Let me, first, describe to you what was happening. We’ll focus on the add() method of PVector. Here’s a copy of the old PVector add method below:

p.PVector.prototype.add = function add(){

	if (arguments.length == 3){
		this.x += arguments[0];
		this.y += arguments[1];
		this.z += arguments[2];
	}
	else if (arguments.length == 1){
		this.x += arguments[0].x;
		this.y += arguments[0].y;
		this.z += arguments[0].z;
	}
	else if (arguments.length == 2){
        var a = arguments;
        return new p.PVector( a[0].x + a[1].x,
                              a[0].y + a[1].y,
                              a[0].z + a[1].z );

	}
};

Now, above is a depiction of handling the three different uses of the add method; which can be found here. The problem I was having was the prototyping function within Javascript’s objects. I was using prototype to link this method in a clean way to the original object. Now, the problem occurs when using PVector.add(v1, v2). The method simply doesn’t exist due to the nature of prototyping. To be able to use it that way, I’d have to type PVector.prototype.add(v1, v2); which is definitely a problem because this is a port of an existing application. The number one rule of “ports” is to make it functional in the same way as the original.

Now you would think it’d be easily solvable by removing prototype, but another problem occurs due to the breaking of another object operator called “this”. Removing prototype breaks the link to the original object, which in turn, breaks the functionality. It wasn’t an easy problem to solve but Al, with his JS prowess, showed me a way to make PVector a wrapper and be able to use the functional language properly.

function PVectorAdd(){
    var a = arguments;
    return p.PVector( a[0].x + a[1].x, a[0].y + a[1].y, a[0].z + a[1].z );
}

function vectorStuff(){
    arguments = arguments[0];
    this.x = arguments[ 0 ] || 0;
    this.y = arguments[ 1 ] || 0;
    this.z = arguments[ 2 ] || 0;

    this.add = function(){
        if (arguments.length == 3){
            this.x += arguments[0];
            this.y += arguments[1];
            this.z += arguments[2];
        }
        else if (arguments.length == 1){
            this.x += arguments[0].x;
            this.y += arguments[0].y;
            this.z += arguments[0].z;
        }
    };
}

p.PVector = function PVector(){
      return new vectorStuff( arguments );
}

p.PVector.add = PVectorAdd;

I realized that there was room for redundancy removal and that specific calls went through specifically to how the method was used and split some of the code. It might be a little less cleaner looking but the necessary checks are removed and I feel it’s cleaner overall.

The following link are the tests for PVector working properly (feel free to go through them all): click here!

Also, I’m willing to give contrib credit to anyone in the class wanting to test the object extensively and give me some feedback! Just leave a post!

A wonderful little weekend trip when staying in and around Sydney is to take a drive down the South

A wonderful little weekend trip when staying in and around Sydney is to take a drive down the South Coast from Sydney. You head out from Sydney towards Wollongong and keep going down from there. This can be a great little one day trip down to Nowra and Jervis Bay or you can keep on going and spend the night in some of the many beautiful towns along the way.

Here is my advice for a nice 3 day trip spending 1 night in Stanwell Tops or Berry and 1 night in Jervis Bay area.

The drive itself from Sydney down our Southern Coastline is stunning. Taking the coastal road via Stanwell Tops is a great start and if you are taking it slowly then spend the morning at SYMBIO WILDLIFE GARDENS. Symbio is fantastic as it has Australia’s most loved Native Animals and you can get right up close and personal with them, cuddling a Koala and feeding a Kangaroo. You can then squeeze in an afternoon of Hang gliding from Stanwell Tops down to the beach at Stanwell Park below, or simply grab an ice cream and watch others give it a go.

SYMBIO ANIMAL PARK: http://www.symbiozoo.com.au/

HANG GLIDING:http://www.hangglideoz.com.au/

Next stop is Kiama. First driving past the gorgeous Bombo beach and through some terrific countryside and catching a glimpse of Australia’s diverse natural environments. Kiama has some great little restaurants and cafes by the sea where you can relax and watch the Pelicans soar in. A visit to the Terrace shops for cute gifts and some old fashioned lollies is a must. Before you head on, take a drive up to the blow hole and Lighthouse on the point- this is always a great thrill for tourists and something that is never boring.

KIAMA: http://www.kiama.com.au/pages/welcome/

Back in the car and its back to the views of the countryside and winding coastal roads with the ever changing scenery to the right at all times. This drive can be done all in one day or take your time and enjoy the little towns along the way. Berry is the perfect place to put up your feet and rest for the night. Whether it’s camping near the 7 mile beach, keeping it cosy in a little B& B or pulling up to a caravan park, you will find all sorts of accommodation here. Great antique shops, boutique fashion stores and homely food will keep you busy when wandering around this lovely little town. The opal store and Chocolate Factory are two of the best attractions, so make sure you’ve got some cash on you.

BERRY: http://www.southcoast.com.au/berry/

The drive then continues down quite straight towards Nowra from here. You will reach the Shoalhaven area and pass many fruit picking spots and vineyards (depending on the season) as well as little beach suburbs. I would suggest renting a house for a night in Collalla Bay, a little further then Nowra or continuing closer to Jervis Bay, Huskisson or Vincentia. Huskisson offers wonderful fishing spots and great whale and dolphin watching cruises. Jervis Bay Caravan Park puts you right out there in the middle of nature with Kangaroos bounding up to your cabin door and always stopping by for a pet. Nearby is also the Valhalla Horse Riding Centre which will take guests through the bush on 1-3 hour guided tours. A brilliant way to see Australia’s Natural beauty.

Valhalla Horse Riding: http://www.valhallahorseriding.com.au

Stop by Nowra’s Information Centre or Visit the Website to get all the hot tips on the Shoalhaven area: http://us.sydney.com/town/Nowra/Shoalhaven_Visitor_Information_Centre_Nowra/info.aspx

So whether it’s a one day trip or a three day trip, there are plenty of options of great things to do and see all along this beautiful coastal path. You can zip straight back after your weekend in 3 hours or again take it slowly with lots of nice stops along the way.

Second in my series of people photography!! Now, I know I said that the Mexico series was done with, but, surprise! More Puerto Morelos pics! Were these strategically saved for this series or did I just forget to put them with the other series? You’ll never know. Anyhoo, its fun to photograph kids doing their kid-ly things. They always seem so completely absorbed in what they are doing and bring such a fun, carefree-because-they-don’t-have-bills-to-pay feeling to the photo. I find that looking at pictures like this always makes me remember how much I liked to do (blank) when I was (blank) years old, long before medical school sort of owned my soul.

So, this boy and girl were playing in the sand on the shore by the Puerto Morelos pier in Puerto Morelos, Mexico. They are in front of the original lighthouse that was transformed into the Leaning Lighthouse of Puerto by Hurricane Wilma. Since it’s more or less non-functional now, there is a new lighthouse a bit further back from the shore. It is much taller and, personally, if I were a sailor, I’d be glad Wilma killed the old short lighthouse so that I could guide myself home with the more modern upgraded model.

The photo was taken with the Canon Powershot G7. I used Adobe Photoshop CS3 to adjust the contrast a bit and to bring out the slightly sepia tones in the picture to help create a more nostalgic feel and to highlight the angle of the sun.

Point Reyes is an amazing preserved part of the California coastline that is just like a little bit

Point Reyes is an amazing preserved part of the California coastline that is just like a little bit of the Irish Coast.

But this is not Ireland. This is the Point Reyes Seashore, a couple walking along the road an awe-inspiring landscape that brings together the land and the sea in a concoction sure to stimulate the senses. Broad, sweeping, rolling hills of green work their way to the craggy cliffs that signal the beginning of the Pacific Ocean. Best of all, this area is relatively untouched by man. Altogether there are 125 miles of trails and most times you won’t be bothered by droves of other tourists.

A weekend away and a world apart might be a good way to summarize a getaway to the Pointe Reyes Seashore, a startling contrast with the metropolitan area that is so close to the south. In fact, once you cross the Golden Gate Bridge, or perhaps the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge coming from the East Bay area, there is a definite line of demarcation between city and country. Oh, there are cities up here all right — but it’s obvious this part of the Bay area was built up by people who wanted to leave the bustle of the city behind them when they retreated from a demanding day at the office.

One of the scenic ways to reach the Point Reyes Seashore is to cross on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge and turn off on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, a slow, meandering two-lane road that weaves in between the forested hills and mountains of Marin County and other locales north of San Francisco. Once we exited onto Sir Francis Drake, we passed a bay full of ferryboats waiting to return to the city to bring commuters home for the evening. Then the road took us deeper into forests that we never realized were there.

Check out San Anselmo for antiques, with more antique stores for a small town than just about any other place in California. More than 130 antique dealers are tucked into just a few blocks of this inviting small town where tree-lined streets and historic architecture suggest a quiet, simple life enhanced by the natural beauty of the forested hills and many nearby vistas.

A little further up the road is the Samuel P. Taylor State Park with its 2,700 acres of redwood forests and grassland. It’s a quiet place to stop a boat lying on its side on landor a picnic. Enjoy the sounds of the babbling brook, the wind gently rustling the trees and the scenic splendor that made this the first park in California that was set aside specifically for city people to go visit.

Just about an hour’s drive from the San Francisco Bay, we reached our base of operations while in the Point Reyes area — the Point Reyes Seashore Lodge. While not actually on the seashore — there are no lodgings on this part of the coast — this comfortable country inn is located very close to the action. The Seashore area’s Bear Valley Visitor Center is just a two-minute drive from the lodge, and the town of Point Reyes is only a little bit farther.

Even without the seashore nearby, the Point Reyes Seashore Lodge is an enchanting retreat of its own with its unique architecture — kind of a cross between a Cape Cod mansion and a modern hunting lodge — and its peaceful grounds. The lodge is located in the tiny town of Olema, where Sir Francis Drake meets Coastal Highway 1. There are a couple of restaurants in town and not much else, but our suite at the lodge offered a warm fire, plenty of reading materials and a gorgeous view from our balcony overlooking the lawns, walkways and streams that are all part of the inn’s two-acre backyard.

After settling in, we took one look at the sunny weather and decided it was time to quickly make our way out to the far reaches of the Point Reyes Seashore — about a 45-minute drive from the inn — where we wanted to visit the famed Point Reyes Lighthouse. Weather in this part of California is a little tricky. Fog can come at any time of the year, although the tendency in winter is for it to be foggy in the interior, yet clear out on the coastline. In summer, that often is reversed.

During our winter visit, we enjoyed clear views all the way out to the Seashore as we drove along the “Irish” countryside, making our way ever closer to the spectacular cliffs leading to the sea. Along the two-lane country road, Point Reyes Lighthouse encountered several historic dairy farms that the National Park Service is allowing operators to maintain. Fascinating to us were the numbers of deer we were encountering throughout the area — not just a deer or two, but clusters of them and all pretty tame.

Along the way to the lighthouse, we saw several signs for roads leading to the park’s many beaches. We took a little side trip down to Drake’s Beach where it is surprising to see, on this pristine beach, a National Park Service restaurant. This and other Point Reyes beaches are wilderness beaches that seem to put you in tune with Nature. An airplane could have you in San Francisco in 10 minutes — but this felt like the other side of the world.

At the end of the road was the lighthouse, an easy—if slightly uphill—15-minute walk from where vehicles are parked. The lighthouse is way out on a cliff and, just beyond, there are miles and miles of open sea. From the Lighthouse Visitor Center it is a 308-step walk down to the lighthouse — which is also 308 steps back up. Many visitors are content to enjoy the views from the observation area. On the day we were there, those views included several migrating whales that are easily visible with binoculars.

Near the lighthouse are several trails that take you out to breathtaking ledges where there the powerful sea washes onto the rocky coastline hundreds of feet below.

After a fair amount of exploring, we next drove our way back to the Bear Valley Visitor Center to get some maps and information for further exploration of the preserve. It soon became obvious that our quick overnight trip to Point Reyes would only scratch the surface of the natural attractions in this area. In the north part of the preserve, for example, you can find herds of elk. Or you can take a short walk from the Visitor Center up to Kule Loklo, a replica of a Coast Miwok Indian Village.

We took a little hike from the Visitor Center along the Earthquake Trail, where the path follows the San Andreas fault line. It’s incredible when you see just how much the ground moved during the 1906 earthquake — the two sections now are 20 feet apart.

AT A GLANCE

WHERE: Point Reyes National Seashore is just an hour’s drive north of the San Francisco Bay area. It’s easy to include in any Northern California vacation itinerary.

WHAT: The park is an expansive area that, for the most part, has been left untouched by man and offers a close-up look at the rugged natural beauty of the California coastline.

WHEN: Year-round. Temperatures in the area are moderate, although fog can develop. Always check for travel deals and vacation packages during the shoulder seasons. Last minute travel deals are sometimes possible, depending upon the lodging operator.

WHY: The park provides easy access to a wide variety of trails and natural attractions sure to appeal to visitors of all ages. There are other attractions not too far away: Drive inland a ways and you’ll start to come across several California wineries. Even the big city’s not far away with San Francisco just an hour’s drive. If you’re looking for variety, this is a great place to go for your Northern California vacation.

Ninth Session (12 page pdf) – Intrigue and staff meetings reign in our Alternity-based campai

Ninth Session (12 page pdf) – Intrigue and staff meetings reign in our Alternity-based campaign aboard the Lighthouse space station as all the characters madly follow their own personal paths to power. Little space monkeys infest the station, the station AI gets a little bent, and sneaky teleporting space Nazis visit the captain. Some of the characters get ready to mess with some Thuldans, while Ten-Zil Kem pretty much concentrates on the chick from Bluefall.

This campaign was enjoyable, pretty much a freeform roleplaying riff by all the characters – we each played both of our characters this time. There were some plot hooks – Thuldan arms, space monkeys, the station AI fritzing – but really we just kicked stuff back and forth, introducing new complications as much as we could. I find this session summary hilarious, it captures the command staff banter, the places Ten-Zil found to bang Angela, the many annoyances our too-proactive station AI inflicts upon us, poor St. Cloud’s assignment as Animal Control Officer…

Personally I was happy; Markus walked away with a briefcase with 100k Concord dollars as commission from the illegal cyber deal, and Captain Takashi got to have his staff meeting. Everyone gets what they want.

I’m sure next time it’ll be a killfest again but this was a great change of pace.
