Lim together with Vice-Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso after gracing the wreath-laying ceremony of 146<sup>th</sup> Birth Anniversary of Gat Andres Bonifacio filed their Certificate of Candidacy at the Commission on Election (COMELEC), local district of Manila Monday morning.</p>
<p>After the momentous program for the commemoration of Manila ’s great hero, Lim and Domagoso were accompanied by their supporters coming from the 6 political districts of Manila .  “Ngayon ay araw ng pagbabago at mapayapang himagsikan sa lungsod ng Maynila tungo sa reporma. Marami na ang nangyayaring hindi tama.  Parang binabalewala natin yung pagsasakripisyo at pag-aalay ng buhay ni Gat Andres Bonifacio,” Lim said.</p>
<p>He said that it is a revolt for peace, clean, and honest election and a cry for the election of the righteous candidate and good governance. “A government that is clean, honest and true to their oath of office”, Lim added.</p>
<p>Domagoso, born and raised in Tondo, felt honored that he is from Tondo like Andres Bonifacio.  “Isang malaking karangalan na maging taga-tondo.  Sapagkat doon isinilang ang isang dakilang bayani na tunay at nagsimula ng pagbibigay ng kalayaan sa ating bansa.  At natutuwa kami sa ating alkalde, na itong araw na ito ay ito rin ang araw ng paglulunsad ng laban sa mga masasama sa gobyerno at yung mga bolero ang nilalabanan ng samahan at kupunan na ito”, Domagoso said.</p>
<p>Domagoso emphasized Mayor Lim’s performance for providing the city with its basic needs and services such as health and education.  “In 2 years time, 2 ospital, eskwelahan, at health center, we are talking about basic services, health and education were provided during those years, during the term of Mayor Alfredo Lim.  So, sino ang nakapagbigay nyan?  Noong una nyang termino noong dati ganoon din, ngayon ganoon na naman, naibalik na naman, nakamtam na naman ng mga taga lungsod yung kanilang basic services or basic needs, na pinoprovide naman ng kasalukuyang administrasyon.  So doon kami magba-bond sa issue na yun, ” Domagoso elaborated.</p>
<p> “Ang amin lang pinaglalaban, na kami ay naninindigan sa katotohanan para sa mamayan ng Lungsod ng Maynila na walang pagkukunwari, walang pagbabalat-kayo, kung hindi yung tapat sa kalooban namin ang magbigay ng panunungkulan sa Lungsod ng Maynila”, Lim added. </p>
<p> The mayor was accompanied by his legal counsels, Atty. Rafaelito Garayblas, Atty. Renato Dela Cruz, and Atty. David Corpin. Garayblas, “the little mayor” expressed his gratitude and happiness towards the unbeatable tandem.</p>
<p> On one hand, Joey Silva, Deputy Mayor and now the political campaign manager for KKK party said that despite the positive strength of Lim’s party, they are holding tight their confidence as anything can happen in the campaign period and during the election proper.</p>
<p> The KKK founded by the Mayor and actively coordinated by Silva, chose the following candidates to run under its wing: Nino dela Cruz, Nestor Lim, Peter Ong, Thelma Lim, Josie Siscar, Lou Veloso, and the majority incumbent councilors, and supports the liberal party senatorial bets.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Manila Mayor Alfredo S. Lim, in his welcome remarks at the national convention and seminar of the Philippine Trial Judges League Inc. (PTJLI) held at the Grand Ballroom of the Century Park Hotel, urged the judges Thursday to&#8221;help improve the dispensation of justice in the country.&#8221;</p>
<p>With its theme &#8221; Frontlining Judicial Independence and Moral Uprighteousness in the First Level Courts&#8221; Lim pointed out that the first level courts are truly the &#8220;front run in the quest for moral revolution.&#8221;</p>
<p> “May this convention give you the time to reminisce and re-live once more your idealism and dedication felt immediately upon taking your oath of office,” Lim added.</p>
<p> Lim (a lawyer) said appointing judges must be &#8220;insulated, as much as possible, from politics so that political patronage is avoided and the wrong perception against judges are minimized.&#8221;</p>
<p> A former police officer, Lim spoke of how police officers can plant evidence or frame-up an innocent person just to report a case solved.</p>
<p>Most victims of such incidents belong to the lowest level of the society – the poor. &#8220;Kahit na hindi kumain ng tatlong beses sa isang araw basta&#8217;t huwag lang kami pagbibintangan sa isang kasalanan na hindi naming ginagawa”, Lim recalled the words of some poor victims of frame-up.</p>
<p>He cited the case of former precinct commander Col. Manolo Martinez who was killed and the suspect was framed up and presented to the media in order to get the bounty of P500,000.</p>
<p> Later, the real suspect surfaced when he was arrested for killing a labor lawyer and the precinct commander.  And finally, the real suspect was a member of the New People’s Army.</p>
<p>Having shared these examples, he asked the judges to immediately acquit the suspects that police or fiscals bring to them since &#8220;this is the true sense of justice. Let them prove their innocence before your sala.&#8221;</p>
<p>You hold in your hands, the proper dispensation of cases. Without your cooperation and intrinsic desire to give justice to all, then justice will always be questioned.</p>
<p>&#8220;I hope that there will be no more frame ups but if you come across such instance, the first line of defense of an innocent person who is searching and wanting to give them the justice rests with you,&#8221; he said.</p>

<title><![CDATA[Dragonfable: Critique on the Release of November 6, 2009]]></title>

<description><![CDATA[The rivalry between Falconreach’s two great weaponsmith’s is beginning to brew: Lim with the power o]]></description>
<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>The rivalry between Falconreach’s two great weaponsmith’s is beginning to brew: Lim with the power of Science and Cysero with the wonders of Magic. It’s time for the Clash(ening)! Meanwhile, the Mad Magical Weaponsmith has a quest for us, only this time, our actions decide the ending: it’s Dragonfable’s first Choose Your Own Adventure quest!</p>
<p><!--more--></p>
<p><strong>The Clashening- Collision Course </strong></p>
<p>Our character enters Lim’s weaponshop and is greeted enthusiastically by the weaponsmith. He needs our help to initiate his greatest experiment yet: Lim’s Had-ron collider. Had-rons are particles (like atoms, protons and electrons) from the past that also exist today. And Lim intends to collide them today to figure out how they can exist in both the past and the present. It’s neat; after all, much of science is the result of someone thinking ‘Hey, wouldn’t this be COOL?’. As for the how, that’s where we come in. Lim has the plan for the LHC all drafted up, but lacks the materials to build it. If we could haul in some scrap metal (from anywhere and anything really), he could solder and shape it into just what he needs. Voltabot usually keeps some junk around for plotting and animation purposes; he wouldn’t be doing anything important with them.</p>
<p>So we venture into the forest where we suspect Dr. Voltabot is hiding, and even into his Perfectly Normal House, and battle a variety of his maniacal machines. Soon we come across the evil dentist himself. We explain that we know he occasionally needs some help controlling his crazy creations, and we also need some scrap metal, which is why we stopped by. The dentist is pleasantly surprised, so he pays us a hundred gold as a thank-you present.</p>
<p>After we hauled all the scrap metal to Lim’s smithy, the weaponsmith tells us to head to Falconreach’s fountain in a couple of days to see the great experiment in action. So a day or two later, Lim’s Had-ron Collider has been built, and the scientific weaponsmith is exhilarated. We’re somewhat excited as well, for we wish to know what would happen next (and an explosion would be cool too, but Lim glares at us through his goggles).</p>
<p>Just then, we are distracted by someone’s yell: Hamsters of Unusual Size are eating the bushes! As Lim and our character turn around to look, Cysero climbs to the top of the machine and drops in a couple of large hamsters. The machine bucks him off in response, and the noise attracts our attention. As the machine’s buttons are flashing red, Lim demands to know exactly what Cysero had done to the LHC, but the mad magical weaponsmith replies that he has used it for what it was intended to do: LHC could also stand for Large Hamster Collider. Lim chokes in despair and rage, then shakes his fist at Cysero: what did he intend to do with putting large hamsters in his collider? Cysero answers that he is searching for Hamptons, which are a theoretical alternative magical energy source, and he figured that he could use Lim’s machine to confirm their existence. Just as Lim demands that Cysero leave, the LHC’s buttons flash green, and its mechanical voice declares that Hamptons were detected. The mad magical weaponsmith leaves in a flash (and then runs back in the opposite direction yelling EUCALPTUS!); Lim yells as well. We try to calm him down, saying that we’re sure Cysero didn’t mean to interrupt his experiment. After taking a deep breath, Lim declares that he would run the test again tomorrow; today’s particles are here now, and he needs them to be here yesterday.</p>
<p><strong>Pros:</strong></p>
<p>The series of battles along the way to Dr. Voltabot provide a decent challenge within a relatively short period of time; the monsters do not have significant endurance, yet every single one of them deals powerful strikes, and a larger portion of the battles are spent fighting against at least two of such monsters. What is also interesting to note is Dr. Voltabot actually paying us; not only is that a good excuse for some extra loot, but it is also contributing to the gradual shift of the dentist away from villainy and into magnanimity. Plus, the cutscene at the end of the quest was quite funny; in particular, Lim’s multitude of reactions and gestures as he watches his plans go up in smoke. Cysero, as usual, had incited some funny chaos.</p>
<p><strong>Cons:</strong></p>
<p>I only have two complaints for the quest. One of them is the lack of impact of the story; the discord between Cysero and Lim is great, but the conflict between the Had-rons and Hamptons isn’t. It’s a funny quest, and could stand alone without being part of a series, but ultimately, the way Lim and Cysero’s rivalry is delivered is lackluster; it just doesn’t leave me eager to see what the next quest in the chain is. Perhaps this is because it lacks a sort of intensity to it; Cysero comes across as mischievous with benign intentions, whereas Lim is completely focused on his experiments and not on getting back at his rival. In addition the loot at the end of the quest isn’t much to get excited over: just a copy of Lim’s Blueprints that could be sold (which, at least, is what I got four times in a row).</p>
<p><strong>Grade: </strong></p>
<p>It’s funny, it’s a little crazy, and it’s got some good battles and a well-animated cutscene. But otherwise, I feel that this quest lacks a little depth, and doesn’t leave me hankering for more. Thus, it deserves a <strong>7/10</strong>.</p>
<p><strong>Choose Your Own Adventure</strong></p>
<p>We meet up with Cysero in front of his store, and he asks if we want to hear about his latest experiment.</p>
<p>If we leave him to his experiment, the world explodes, and our quest ends.</p>
<p>If we talk to Cysero, he starts rambling on about meeting with a frustrated Zorbak whose minions were constantly being scared away by a guy with an axe, and then wonders why <em>he</em> doesn’t have any minions. Then he got hungry and wanted onions, then Grams came by and started talking about her bunions, and…</p>
<p>If we let Cysero keep talking, he talks on until we die, and finds his left sock. The quest ends.</p>
<p>However, if we interrupt Cysero, he gets back on track and says that he wishes to build an anti-magnet. He needs some help collecting the materials though; could we find either Yulgar or Lugosi for him?</p>
<p>Choosing to visit either weaponsmith allows you to continue the quest, though the paths diverge. If we opt to see Yulgar, we head east and battle a few woodland monsters before arriving at Battleon. Once we arrive at his door, we are given a choice to either visit him or Lugosi instead.</p>
<p>Should we take choice B, we continue traveling down Amityville, and fight a few ghoulish monsters to Lugosi’s shop.</p>
<p>Should we take choice A, Yulgar greets us, and wonders what brings us all the way out to the east.</p>
<p>If we answer ‘just to visit’, the blacksmith offers us some weapons to try out, before asking us to take a seat and tell him how everybody is. A shop opens that is comprised of fire and ice Battleon weapons. Once we take your pick, the quest ends.</p>
<p>If we start tell Yulgar what Cysero is working on, the blacksmith asks us if we really want to help him build the anti-magnet. We are then presented with a choice of ultimately helping Cysero, or not.</p>
<p>When we decide not to help Cysero, Yulgar presents us with the fire and ice Battleon weapons to try out. The quest ends.</p>
<p>When we decide to help Cysero (what’s the worst that could happen?), we see Battleon explode, leaving behind nothing but a crater. A shop opens containing wind and stone Destruction weapons, the former of which is for DA-holders. And the quest ends on that morbid note.</p>
<p>Now if we decide early on to visit Lugosi, or change our mind once we get to Yulgar’s door, we battle through a few ghoulish monsters to get to Lugosi’s smithy. On the way there, we come across house with smoke slipping out the door.</p>
<p>If we ignore it and keep going, we continue fighting monsters until we arrive at Lugosi’s weaponshop.</p>
<p>However, if we choose to investigate, we enter to find Zorbak standing next to a large, smoking undead tomato with a face. We are given two chances to leave, once from the beginning, and second after we find out that Zorbak is cooking.</p>
<p>Should we choose to stop him, we accidentally knock over a bottle on the floor, and twenty-seven and a half days later, Amityville is destroyed. A shop opens up containing <em>Darkovia</em> destruction weapons of light and darkness. So the quest ends.</p>
<p>If we manage to arrive at Lugosi’s, we are given a choice to either enter or to visit Yulgar instead. Should we choose the latter, we would find ourselves down the path to Battleon, strewn with woodland monsters.</p>
<p>Should we instead choose to enter, we tell Lugosi of Cysero’s plan to build an anti-magnet. Like at Yulgar’s, we are then given a choice to either help Cysero or to abandon his project.</p>
<p>If we still wish to help the Mad Magical Weaponsmith, the world explodes, and the quest ends.</p>
<p>If we decide against it, Lugosi says that it’s probably for the best, and besides, Cysero is probably working on his next, hopefully less dangerous, experiment anyway. But while we’re here, Lugosi has some new weapons for us to try out, and a shop opens which has fire and ice Darkovian weapons. So the quest ends on that positive note.</p>
<p><strong>Pros:</strong></p>
<p>The fact that this quest had multiple scenarios and endings is already a huge plus; this is a big step for Dragonfable, and I hope to see more of such craziness again. In addition are the walloping number of weapons available from this quest in shops; twenty-four new armaments in total of a variety of elements, and not just any run-of-the-mill weapons either. These weapons are quite powerful for their level, and have significant statistics to boost them. Plus, the designs of the weapons are quite intricate, and go along very well with their themes.</p>
<p><strong>Cons: </strong></p>
<p>Since this is the first Choose Your Own Adventure quest in Dragonfable, I’ll let the lack of a real story slide with only a slight whinge. But a con that I cannot overlook is the fact that all the Darkovian weapons are of the exact same design, and the Battleon weapons follow only one design as well (including the Destruction ones, which are only tarnished variations on the Battleon arms). Then again, asking the team to come up with twenty-four different designs in one week might be much to ask for.</p>
<p><strong>Grade: </strong></p>
<p>Despite the lack of a real story and the repetitious design of the weapons, this is a very entertaining quest; you could play it over and over again and not get as tired compared to a standard quest. Thus, the Choose Your Own Adventure quest deserves a decent <strong>8/10</strong> from me.</p>
<p><strong>Final Grade of the Release: </strong></p>
<p>All in all, this isn’t a bad week for Dragonfable. Madness abounds in the form of Cysero for the two quests, though it does not actually provide very engaging stories. Therefore, this week’s release earns a standard <strong>7.5/10</strong>.</p>

E&#8217; composta da una parte dove si proietta l&#8217;immagine, da un&#8217; altra che rileva il pennino, delle casse e da una parte in metallo che si allontana dallo schermo e sostiene il proiettore.<br />
Per far funzionare questa L.I.M.(LIM, lim e scomodo scrivere sempre grande e puntato) bisogna collegare un pc e per far funzionare il pennino bisogna installare un programma sul pc da usare.<br />
Queste L.I.M si stanno diffondendo in tutta Italia nelle scuole e aiutano i ragazzi ad abituarsi alla tecnologia.<br />

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>For det første så er jeg helt enig med Johan Golden og Atle Antonsen som i en årrekke i sine radioprogram, nå sist <a href="http://www.p4.no/programmer/homepage.aspx?id=751">Misjonen</a>, har ment at hest er kjedelig, for ja, det er det, de, den, hun, han..et eller annet..For meg er hest like underholdende som å se betong tørke.</p>
<p>Hest er her for å gjøre to ting, bli til mat og lim.</p>

<p>At folk går man av huse for å dresse seg opp og dra på hesteveddeløp er rett og slett skremmende. Selvfølgelig hvis man har en fetish som til sier at må hive seg inn i finstasen og og putte et fuglerede på hodet, så vær så god. Men verden kan ikke være sånn. Vi kan ikke drive på hylle et dyr som er mest kjent som det som holder treplanker sammen før man slår spikeren igjennom.</p>
<p>Og ja, jeg vet at mange av dere som drar på disse &#8220;samlingene&#8221; er der kun for alkoholen sin skyld. Da vil jeg si at det finnes bedre måter å bli drita på. Personlig har jeg aldri tatt turen til noe som likner på et hesteslepp med alkohol, men rapportene fra de som har tatt seg bryet med å stikke på diverse races her nede i Australia er jo at det er en million mennesker og alle står i barkøen til enhver tid. Og med et to drink maximum per kjøp, så trenger man ikke være filosof Morten Harket for å skjønne at dette er bortkastet tid.</p>
<p>Gjør slik som majoriteten av verdens befolkning gjør, sleng på deg en fotballdrakt og stikk på din lokale pub. Kort vei til underholdingen, kort vei til baren og kort vei til toalettet når nøden blir som størst.</p>

<p>Noi ragazzi delle classi quinte di San Bortolo quest&#8217;anno abbiamo iniziato a conoscere il <span style="color:#ff0000;"><strong>corpo umano</strong></span>.   <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_cool.gif' alt='8)' class='wp-smiley' /><br />
In particolare stiamo studiando il<span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong> </strong></span><span style="color:#0000ff;"><strong>viaggio dell&#8217;aria</strong></span> attraverso l&#8217;<span style="color:#00ccff;"><strong>apparato respiratorio</strong></span>.</p>
<p>Insieme alla nostra maestra abbiamo realizzato una magnifica registrazione, usando la <span style="color:#ff00ff;"><strong>LIM</strong></span>.  <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif' alt=':P' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>Prima alcuni di noi &#8211; Federica, Sofia Caterina ed io (Sofia) -  hanno scritto al computer le <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong><a title="Leggi &#34;il viaggio dell'aria&#34; nell'apparato respiratorio" href="http://docs.google.com/View?id=dccxrp2m_275cc3xx2cg" target="_blank">informazioni</a></strong></span> raccolte e documentate anche nel quaderno di scienze, evidenziando le <strong><span style="color:#ff6600;">parole-chiave</span></strong>.</p>

Qualche giorno fa alcuni di noi si sono fermati a scuola, dopo il rientro pomeridiano,   per provare con la maestra Barbara a registrare con  la <span style="color:#ff00ff;"><strong> LIM </strong></span>la lezione sulle piante, ricavandola dal <a title="Le parti della pianta" href="http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dccxrp2m_231ch374tch" target="_blank"><span style="text-decoration:underline;">lavoro svolto</span></a>.<br />
E&#8217; stato molto divertente! <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':-)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>Ci siamo divisi i compiti:   alcuni hanno scelto di leggere al microfono   le informazioni che avevamo ricercato in Internet e scritto al computer, altri hanno &#8220;animato&#8221; sulla <span style="color:#ff00ff;"><strong>LIM </strong><span style="color:#000000;">i disegni che avevamo realizzato con TuxPaint.</span> </span></p>
<p>E&#8217; stato faticoso sincronizzare tutto, ma bello! <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>

<description><![CDATA[Wow! I count twelve (12) papers on James at the Annual Meeting of the Society of Biblical Literature]]></description>

I count twelve (12) papers on James at the Annual Meeting of the Society of Biblical Literature in New Orleans coming up November 21 &#8211; 24. The presentation of these twelve papers is dispersed among eight (8) different section units. How appropriate since James was addressed to the twelve tribes in the dispersion, and one proposal for the letter&#8217;s organization divides it into twelve sections. Well, I&#8217;m sure that has nothing to do with it.</p>

<strong>&#8220;Ethos and Ethics of the Didache: Affinity with Other Early Jesus Groups Within Judaism?&#8221;</strong><br />
The ethos of a people or a community points to its very identity and vision: this is who we are and this is what distinguishes us from other groups or communities. The ethos gives rise to the ethics of the community: those rules, values, guidelines to which members of the community adhere and which express their identity. This paper analyzes the Didache with a view to disclosing the ethos and identity of the community which it reflects. This analysis also leads to an examination of the ethical admonitions occurring as boundary markers that give expression to the identity of the community of the Didache. The ethical admonitions of the Didache all occur in a theological rather than Christological context. Among the ethical admonitions, attention is given to the Jewish Two Ways of Did 3:1-6; the Double Command of Love; and concepts such as &#8220;being perfect&#8221; (teleios) and &#8220;being double-minded&#8221; (dipsychein). The second part of this paper examines the ethos, identity and similar ethical admonitions within three other documents from Jesus groups within Judaism, namely the Letter of James, the Sermon on the Mount and the Two Ways teaching found in the Letter of Barnabas. Based on this investigation, possible affinities among these documents will emerge.</p></blockquote>

<strong>&#8220;Q and James: A Source Critical Conundrum&#8221;</strong><br />
This paper provides an overview of the major theories that seek to account for the similar traditions that exist in Q and James. First, the nature of the different types of parallels will be analyzed. Secondly, the major critical suggestions which account for these parallels will be assessed. Thirdly, the paper will discuss the significance of the existence of such parallel sources of tradition for accessing material which may be traced back to the historical Jesus.</p>

<strong>&#8220;Wholeness in James and the Q Source&#8221;</strong><br />
The sayings traditions of Jesus of Nazareth lie at the foundation of the moral exhortations in both the Letter of James are the Q Source. An examination of both James and Q reveals that they hold some of the moral exhortations in common. The purpose of this paper will be to examine these common links with the Jesus tradition by focusing on their vision of God and its consequence for action. This study demonstrates that faith in action captures the vision of James and the Q source. James’s vision embraced an understanding of works that occurred in the context of one’s whole life of faith (Jas 1:14) as does the Q Source (Q 6:46-49). Through an examination of concrete texts this study will further show that the traditions of Jesus that James and Q transmit are focused on the Israelite value of wholeness. At the same time a social-scientific examination of the value of wholeness will demonstrate how this value of wholeness is reflected equally in the traditions of James and Q. Patterns of all-or-nothing (characteristic of the Israelite value of wholeness) are common to James and Q. The value of wholeness is what links together the ethical traditions of Jesus in James and Q. Among some of the examples: God demands total allegiance; people cannot serve both God and mammon (Q 16:13). Friendship with the world is enmity with God (Jas 4:4); the need to keep the whole Law (Q 16:17 and Jas 2:10), etc. Through this analysis of the moral exhortations in James and Q, this paper will illustrate that the Q tradition as it developed further in the Sermon on the Mount is also reflected in the Jesus tradition at the heart of James’s ethical teaching. The common links in the traditions between James and Q are explained from the fact that James is aware of the Jesus tradition as it is being handed on within the Q community and its developing tradition as seen in the Q Sermon on the Mount.</p>

The focus of this essay is James 2:5, an allusion to a saying of Jesus that is performed in four other early texts: QMatt 5:3; QLuke 6:20b; Gos. Thom. 54; and Pol. Phil. 2:3. I should like to explore the links between these five performances of a Jesus-chreia from a socio-rhetorical perspective: treating of their form, reasoning, focus, and their rhetorical and theological functions.</p>

<strong>&#8220;(Sub)alternative: The Subaltern Identities of James and Paul in the Roman Empire&#8221; </strong><br />
In the field of Subaltern Studies, scholars attempt to construct a history from below that emphasizes the most marginalized people in a society. Gayatri Spivak is famous for problematizing the marginalized by showing how hierarchical structures exist within oppressed societies, i.e. the oppressed within the oppressed. Using this framework, I will read James and Paul as competing subaltern identities within the dominant Roman Empire. Each provides a “subalternative” identity within the marginalized early Jewishness of the first century. In an attempt to construct an identity in relation to the Roman Empire, both James and Paul negotiate cultural border lines. James argues for a more conservative, nativist position while Paul radicalizes and/or hybridizes Jewish identity. In this way, they offer (sub)alternative identities for their constituencies. This process of negotiation also reveals the palimpsest that was Jewishness and Christianness in the first century.</p>

<strong>&#8220;Emphutos Logos: A New Covenant Motif in the Letter of James&#8221;</strong><br />
Studies on the &#8220;implanted word&#8221; in the letter of James fall into two trajectories. One proposed trajectory sets this term against the background of Stoic philosophy as a reference to natural reason common to all humans. The other sets this term against the background of the Christian proclamation of the gospel internalized by the Christian community. The argument in this paper attempts to further the latter trajectory by arguing that the &#8220;implanted word&#8221; motif is an enablement motif grounded in new covenant thinking. To this end, this paper will argue that the Letter of James assumes a pessimistic anthropology and that emphutos in the pagan, Jewish, and, espeicially, the early Christian contexts was understood as an enablement motif for the moral and religious life.</p>

<strong>&#8220;Endurance unto Salvation: The Witness of 1 Peter and James&#8221;</strong><br />
Both First Peter and James speak about the link between endurance and salvation, and yet in deference to the Pauline epistles, rarely is this mentioned except as an aside in most theological writings. Their witness is seen as “secondary” in most systematic work. These two epistles, however, have a remarkable amount of overlap, even simply in their first chapters, regarding the theme of endurance and its central importance for salvation. In 1 Peter 1:6-9, the author concedes that his audience will “have to suffer grief” but assures them that they “are receiving the goal of faith, the salvation of your souls.” Trials, he states, have come so that faith might be “proved.” James encourages joy in the “testing” of faith that believers might become “mature and complete” (1:3-5). Those who persevere will “receive the crown which is life” (1:12). For both authors the reality of a “variety of trials” (1 Pet 1:6; Jas 1:2) leads to calls for endurance for salvation. Endurance relates to “holding fast” to the faith despite trials but also indicates obedience in holiness. 1 Peter 1:14-15 warns his readers not to conform to their sinful “desires” but rather reminds them of God’s holiness and subsequent commands to “be holy.” He describes their redemption (1:17-21) and from this reminds them of the reality of their purification (1:22) and calls them to restore their purity (2:1). Likewise James warns his audience against their desires as the path to death. Instead, he reminds them again of their redemption (1:17-18) as a result of which they should purify themselves (1:21) and seek to worship God in purity and service (1:27). The sheer congruence of vocabulary and ideas within the introductory chapter of each text validates a comparison of their theologies of endurance for salvation.</p></blockquote>

<strong>&#8220;A Kind of Judean Specialist: Theorizing a Redescription of the Religiosity of James the Brother of Jesus&#8221;</strong><br />
We often cripple our ability to deploy sources for studying the religiosity of James the brother of Jesus through problematic assumptions about the proper goals of study. These assumptions often coincide with internal Christian categories and the types of intellectualist discursive-action concerns dominating the fields of studying early Christianity: i.e., religiosity ultimately concerns doctrines/beliefs and “actions” secondarily flowing from them; intellectualist manipulations of texts and doctrines constitute the essence of religiosity, etc. I propose some social-theoretical and historical spadework to make possible a redescription of the religiosity of James. First, I commence with the above concerns: (A) bypassing internal Christian categories we often anachronistically retroject back onto early “Christian” figures and (B) problematizing our implicit theoretical approaches that prioritize quests for doctrines, beliefs, intellectualist manipulations of texts and doctrines, and other such discursively-oriented practices of specialist cultural producers. Second, I pursue plausible cross-cultural categories to orient investigations of James and other Jerusalem Judeans of the 1st century CE. I introduce a typology relevant for categorizing kinds of Judean religiosity in Jerusalem, particularly focusing on what might be termed “everyday kinship-sacrificial religiosity.” As part of this I explore a typology of the kinds of specialists and leaders within these varying types of Judean religiosity. Third, I attempt a consciously theorized socially and historically plausible redescription of James’ religiosity as a form of Jerusalem Judean religiosity. Here I investigate my intuition of James as a specialist of some sort, but operating in relation to a kind of everyday Judean kinship-sacrificial religiosity. While the entire paper remains necessarily introductory, it hopefully demonstrates the productivity of such a consciously re-theorized methodology. This project strives to work out (not simply to “apply”) social theory, especially practice theories similar to those of Pierre Bourdieu and Theodore Schatzki, through redescription of early “Christian” sites.</p></blockquote>

Scripture, however, contains not only its message but also unique effects for communication. The science of rhetoric might aid contemporary preachers to discern persuasive elements in the biblical texts and, consequently, to revitalize the intended biblical effects in contemporary sermons. Belonging to the protreptic genre, the epistle of James comprises copious rhetorical devices. This presentation will spell out the protreptic features of the epistle of James and its rhetorical devices (i.e., rhetorical questions, directive expressions, repetition, diatribe, metaphor, imperatives, poetic expressions, biblical figures, and personal experiences), and then attempt to reanimate biblical rhetorical impacts in the construction of contemporary biblical sermons.</p></blockquote>

<strong>&#8220;</strong><strong>Family Values: Priestly Constructions of Social Identity in the Jerusalem Assembly&#8221;</strong><br />
This paper will address two thorny questions regarding the development of the earliest Jesus groups: 1) what ideological shift occurred to cause the group described in Acts to move its geographic center from the Galilee to Jerusalem? and, 2) what caused this Jerusalem-based Jesus group to radically re-signify its valuation of kinship, a re-signification that resulted in the family of Jesus enjoying an unanticipated surge in status and authority which the author of Luke/Acts acknowledges but never explains? Both of the above changes reflect significant shifts in the group’s ideology and social identity. Both point to contested social space between that presented in Mark and Q, on the one hand, and that indicated in the later layers of Matthew and Luke and in Acts, on the other. Both repeatedly point us to the same two individuals: Mariam, the mother of Jesus, and her son, James. There is sound evidence for an ideological shift in that these changes coincide with evidence for a new set of values, specifically those associated with priestly interests. These values show up in those later literary layers and in Acts, values that the family of Jesus apparently was successful in instituting within the Jerusalem group. They appear in the development of a new veneration for the Temple as symbol, in the use of new literary genres within the texts, genres strongly associated with the tradition of the priests, and in the introduction of newly prominent individuals, characters, and ritual identities. This influence is much more substantial than previously acknowledged and is also deeply significant for gender constructions in that it points to a formative and foundational role for Mariam herself. It helps account for some of the puzzling shifts in the synoptic gospels and contributes to our mapping of the social identities of early Jesus groups.</p></blockquote>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Il prossimo <span style="color:#ff0000;"><strong>13 novembre</strong></span>, dalle ore 14.45, siamo all&#8217;<span style="color:#ff0000;"><strong>EXPOSCUOLA di Padova</strong></span> per presentare il progetto<span style="color:#ff6600;"><strong> &#8220;3T: Tessere Tanti Testi&#8221;</strong></span>!</p>
<p>Il progetto, che rientra  nell&#8217;iniziativa ministeriale Innovascuola, da oltre un anno sta impegnando un gruppo di alunni e insegnanti della Direzione Didattica 2° Circolo di Arzignano (VI) nella co-costruzione di <strong>Learning Object web 2.0 </strong>anche grazie a uno strumento tecnologico innovativo: la <strong>LIM </strong>(Lavagna Interattiva Multimediale).</p>
