well, it’s that time of year again. i’m sure many of you are out braving the black friday frenzy. we’re not ready to deal with that here, so when you’re done with all the craziness you can be sure that you’ll have a calm and cool shopping spree with us.

i wanted to highlight today some of the eclectic and fun items that we have here. any of these things (and really anything on our website) is really a great gift for that person who is just so hard to shop for. we often get dubbed the shop where you can get something for someone who ‘already has everything’. it’s true! everything we have is so unique, practical and price conscious. that last part is pretty important too, since everyone is looking for ways to save their pennies in this economy.

first off, we have some beautiful new jewelry from aroha silhouettes. created by one of the nicest people around, tania hennessy, these earrings and necklaces are smaller, shinier versions of her popular vinyl record series. we loved those so much, we just had to get in on her new line of stainless steel pieces. so lovely!

we also have a lot of  fun stuff from gama go. cute wallets, coin purses, magnets, mugs, etc. all of it is so wallet friendly as well. all gama go merch is between $9-$24. it really doesn’t get any better than that, right??

i, of course, cannot forget to mention some of the amazing amazing prints that we also carry. this deathcab print is one of my faves and by local artist dan stiles. we also have tons and tons of other really fantastic screen prints and giclee prints.

for the people you know that work hard but like to have fun, we have tons of really great office items like these 4 eyes flash drives from imm living. this flash drive is not only super unique and original, but also doubles as a bookmark too! how cool is that?

we also have some cool stuff for the kiddos like these bObles tumbling animals. these are really great for kids of any age to teach them coordination, agility, or just to kind of roll around on. they would also make great gifts for any adult who is a kid at heart, as stepping stools or for decoration.

Charles will once again be offering collectors and fans of his illustration work a Christmas holiday special.  This year, the special will include a free print of your choice.  In addition, the artist will include a free limited edition pastel print of the Joseph Horne Co. Christmas tree.  The lighting of the Horne’s Christmas tree has been a long-standing family tradition in the city of Pittsburgh.

The Joseph Horne Co., often referred to simply as Horne’s by Pittsburghers was an iconic regional department store located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.   It was one of the oldest department stores in the country after being founded by Joseph Horne (1826-1891) in 1849.   The department store chain operated for nearly 145 years until it ceased operation in 1994 after it merged with Lazarus, a division of the Federated Dept. Stores, Inc.

Joseph Horne was born in Bedford County, Pennsylvania.  He moved to Pittsburgh where landed his first job in the retail trade with Christian Yeager.   At age of 23, he bought F.H. Eaton store and eventually renamed it the Joseph Horne Co.   It became the leading department store in Pittsburgh, along with Kaufmann’s lasting for generations.   In 1879, a new central location was built at the corner of Penn Avenue and Stanwix Street.   The building was a 7-story landmark and the first department store in the city’s downtown district.   The annual lighting of the Horne’s Christmas Tree at their flagship store was a long held family Christmas tradition.   The Christmas tree display was six stories high and erected on the building’s corner.  Although the store ceased operation, it remains a tradition with Pittsburgh’s annual Light-Up Night festivities.   Crowds would also gather during the Christmas season to view the Christmas display windows, which often were very elaborate and included animated moving characters.

Leica, everyone’s favourite vintage camera brand, has joined forces with Hermes to produce the limited edition M7 in Hermes’ trademark orange/tan colourways with chrome accents. Only 100 of these will be produced, for the rather exorbitant price of $14,000 each. Bargain. I have to say that the look of these goes perfectly with Hermes’ a/w 09/10 collection – the vintage airman aesthetic is truly captured in this item – you can almost imagine seeing it in the cockpit of a Lancaster bomber circa 1942. Very, very nice.

Underground rapper Dok2 has been making some spotlight moves to let people know that he would be dropping his first full length and now it’s here!

Dok2 officially released his album on iTunes yesterday and his MV for the song, “It’s Me” has been officially launched on the Map The Soul page. The video is very simplistic in it’s reason, Dok2 is just letting fans and everyone to see that this is him. The crunk-est rapper ever to hit Seoul, Dok2 booming voice fused the other guy’s harmony makes the song bumpin’!

Malak El Ezzawy, one of our favorite local evening wear designers, tributes the “Little Black Dress” this fall with her limited edition collection.  What I love, is that it is a perfect addition to my LBD post (posted a couple of weeks ealier, click here).  As mentioned before, the LBD transcends time and trends and is the perfect “throw it on and still look chic” dress.  A staple in every woman’s wardrobe, just like a man’s white chemise.  Below is a sample preview of her limited edition collection, more on this Facebook link, and in store at the Melodies Atelier at 24 Tharwa St., Mohandeseen, ground floor.

Malak’s LBD collection is full of lace, as we call it in Egypt, dentelle.  The dress below worn by Menna Shalaby is a dentelle top with a chiffon and tulle skirt and a sexy low back.

This LBD is the perfectly structured tube dress, which I believe, will be flattering to many.  The dress is very futuristic (which I don’t usually like, but this is cool).  I also love how the designer utilized both polka dot and stripped prints on one canvas.

Wishing you could get a Motorola Droid and stand out from all your Android-toting friends at the same time? Then you might just want to consider bidding on this “limited edition” Droid prototype that just turned up on eBay, which has a reasonably good chance of being an actual Droid, and a slight chance of being an actual prototype. If the seller is to be believed, however, this particular Droid is one of only five produced, and is different from the standard issue Droid in a few respects — including a chrome bezel instead of a black one, silver buttons instead of gold, and some “enhanced LED lighting” on the front buttons. It also apparently works just fine, and is ready to be activated. Willing to take the chance? Bidding starts at $485.

HELLO KITTY 35TH ANNIVERSARY limited edition products from Japan…

I loved Bioshock even though I wasn’t in a great rush to go out and buy it upon release. It was loaned to me by a friend who thought I might enjoy it and how right he was. The game dripped atmosphere, was just about the right length for me to cope with and was rich in story and character. When the teaser trailers came out for the sequel almost a year ago now I have to admit to not really wanting it to happen. I’d become, in my own way, quite protective of my experiences in Rapture during the first game. That story did not need a sequel, much less one with multiplayer modes tacked onto it. Everything about Bioshock 2 seemed designed as a cash in especially is it lacked the original design team. Having recently seen gameplay footage I’ve been swayed. Maybe, just maybe there’s life in the old place yet. I really thought that you couldn’t stage another game in Rapture itself simply because it would never match the thrill ride that the first time around was. By the looks of it there’s life in the old place yet and that life is jacked up on Adam and ready to rip you apart.

It appears they’ve thought about the story enough that it’ll be a natural continuation rather than something thrown together and the idea of playing as a Big Daddy, vilified during the initial announcement, seems to hold some logic. Bioshock 2 will hopefully be a worthy sequel to a classic first game and it’s currently down on my 2010 ‘Want List’ especially as the limited edition version has a LP record of the soundtrack with it.

It’s not often that a game that I held no interest in beforehand changes my mind and makes it into my radar but Bioshock 2 has just about done it.

So there has been a fair bit of gossip this week. The news that has been standing out most with no surprise would be the rumor of a Ferrari 599 GTO Limited Edition!

Now don’t take us on our word for this because they are merely rumors at this point but word on the track is that the GTO will be reduced in by 100-143 pounds in weight and will boast 680-700bhp. I’m personally hoping this happens because I love the 599 and a sexy upgrade won’t hurt it!

Coming to the numbers; the 599 GTO should see a 20-25% increase in price from the standard and may just have a release date as early as October of 2010. If the price isn’t a problem, it’s availability might be so get ready to fight for her. If you power on through those anxious buyers you may be a proud owner of a 500 unit limited edition beast!
