Talk about being well worth it.  The long days and endless nights certainly were while we were at the PhoCusWright conference.  Did I say endless, I should have said sleepless.  What a time it was at the convention this week.  We launched our product, made many new friends, started several new relationships, went to a vast array of cocktail parties and dinner parties and shook about a thousand hands.  In the end we met with some of the heaviest hitters in the travel industry with unbelievable results.

Before we left for the conference there was a bit of trepidation and sweaty palms.  Now that it is nearly over it is apparent that it has been an unbelievable experience and a huge success.  During our presentation bloggers and travel critic as well as the press were just tweeting away talking about the need for our product and the utile nature of our UI.  The convenience of our product brought oh’s and ahs from many travel sources that until now could never monetize the space we fill.

La città cresce grazie all'integrazione, alla cooperazione tra studenti, professionisti, immigrati e frequentemente il suo carattere aperto è messo sotto attacco per la presenza di tendenze razziste e fasciste. E' necessaria una ripresa dell'attivismo sociale, già molto presente nelle iniziative della popolazione dei quartieri periferici e dei centri sociali che vi operano. Ciò che sarebbe un danno ulteriore è l'ipotesi di risolvere i problemi demonizzando sulla base delle opinioni parte della comunità romana. Gli anni settanta sono finiti e non può funzionare la facile equazione per cui le fasce di abitanti che non posseggono una tradizione progressista sarebbero forcaioli.

Alcuni blog hanno riportato la denuncia di un episodio di violenza avvenuto tra venerdì e sabato in un quartiere noto per le iniziative sociali e piuttosto preso di mira da attacchi di stampo ultraconservatore

 

Pochi spazi su internet hanno riportato un fatto inquietante avvenuto nel quartiere romano del Pigneto, un ambiente abbastanza conosciuto per la sua ricchezza di iniziative sociali e progressiste e sotto attacco da parte delle tendenze ultraconservatrici che percorrono il Lazio. Una decina di persone sono scese da un hummer limousine (che sarebbe una sorta di macchina di lusso blindata o di blindato di classe, a vederlo) ed hanno pestato senza apparente ragione delle persone che avevano partecipato ad una festa di compleanno.

Il Pigneto fa parte di quei quartieri romani dove molti giovani ed associazioni ritessono dal basso una rete di iniziative sociali e culturali sfibrata dalla commercializzazione dell’esistente degli ultimi venti anni e in ultimo dal peso della crisi mondiale sulle fasce sociali meno garantite dalle corporazioni ideologico-sindacali e dalle concentrazioni economiche in Italia. Al Pigneto si sono svolte nel tempo anche importanti manifestazioni culturali di recupero della memoria della Resistenza, indicando che la cooperazione in funzione del futuro tra studenti, immigrati e gruppi civici porta alla luce anche l’attualità della storia in tempi di forti cambiamenti.

L’aggressione indiscriminata ad un gruppo di amici in strada in un quartiere del genere avviene a meno di due settimane dall’irruzione di vigilantes a minaccia dei lavoratori di un noto stabilimento romano di un’azienda con sede al Tiburtino, apparsa anche su queste pagine web, ed è circondata da una miriade di altre notizie di attacchi a persone costrette a dormire in strada, colpite per l’orientamento sessuale (o politico, ma i diversi gruppi radicati sul territorio in strutture occupate o simili sono da una parte e dall’altra più o meno vulnerabili in maniera alterna stando alla cronaca, anche se vi è una oggettiva maggiore frequenza di aggressioni contro le sedi di realtà antagonista progressista).

Nei pochi spazi che hanno riportato la notizia attraverso la denuncia delle stesse vittime dell’accaduto si legge qualche commento sulla situazione generale della città e sulle presunte responsabilità di chi amministra. La logica vuole che coloro che amministrano non possono essere considerati colpevoli a priori sulla base delle proprie opionioni. Anzi, gli ultimi anni hanno visto esempi di apertura da parte del Comune di Roma verso ambienti anche molto diversi per sensibilità dalla nuova giunta di Gianni Alemanno. Questa è la cronaca, non si può negare per il fatto che bisogna ripetere degli slogan.

Quello che è vero, che desta allarme, è che aumenta non soltanto il verificarsi di violenza (non a Roma ma in Italia e non quest’anno ma in questo decennio) ma l’ostilità di questo tipo. Gente che partecipa ad una festa di lusso che attacca altri che si stanno divertendo per strada. Persone che si sentono cittadini più di altri che aggrediscono immigrati. Il lavoro messo nell’angolo. Fatti culturali, l’ordine pubblico non li risolve, la sinistra non rivendica un’alternativa, i media non presentano idee differenti e la società reagisce poco. Il Pigneto, come molte altre vivaci aree romane, rappresenta, per chi vive il Lazio come territorio, un laboratorio dove è chiaro che la società cambia anche in positivo, valorizzando il lavoro, l’integrazione e gli scambi ben oltre le rigidità e delle proclamazioni con le quali l’area progressista si è resa irrilevante e museale in Italia. Si tratta di quartieri che rendono attuale l’antifascismo come sforzo di trasformazione della società.

Le spinte che al contrario perpetuano una visione di classe, razzista e ultraconservatrice rischiano di danneggiare Roma e la sua identità caratterizzata dall’apertura, anche perchè potrebbero stanare tendenze di segno apparentemente opposto, ma che non sono certo dirette a risolvere i problemi: difatti la mercificazione selvaggia, il girarsi dall’altra parte di fronte alle fasce in difficoltà e la violenza a Roma, sono in crescita da anni, non soltanto con una amministrazione che fa gravi sbagli ma episodicamente cerca di comprendere la realtà in cui opera, ma anche quando chi amministrava voleva bene a tutti, ma tra feste del cinema e inaugurazioni di mezzo metro di strada di fronte alle telecamere, concretizzava molto poco di questa benevolenza per le fasce di popolazione che vivono la vera città tutti i giorni.

Although I’m already back in Helsinki I still wanna give u an overview of the last days in Russia. On Saturday we woke up early-ish to do some more sightseeing. It was very cold outside but we walked the entire time.

First stop was the “eternal flame” at the “Field of Mars”. We already passed the flame with the bus on day 1 but as it was kinda far away we felt like going there and check it out properly. We spent some time there warming up our hands(and asses lol).

And then we proceeded to the Peter and Paul Fortress. It was far away but we got to see a lot of St.Petersburg. We checked out the cathedral which was very pretty(and very gold).

I don’t know why but there where 2 TV teams with cameras that filmed and interviewed people. Unfortunately they must have missed our awesomeness as they did not interview us

By the time we were done we could not feel our toes anymore. It felt horrible but we were strong and walked back all the way and had some hot chocolate and tea and relaxed at the bakery next to our hotel.

At 3.30pm most of us left for “Catherine’s Palace” which is in Pushkin. It was the summer residence of the Russian tsars in the 18th century.

It was so beautiful! I could definitely live there! The rooms were amazing and I even liked(most) of the paintings. The guide we had was the same we’ve had in the Hermitage. But I think this time she did not hate me that much. Maybe because I was very quiet(i felt horrible and sick that day). Before we could all enter the holy rooms we had to put on special “slippers” so we would not ruin the floors.

We all looked very fahsionable. We were all allowed to take pictures (without flash only) except of the famous Amber Room. It looked amazing and I can’t believe that it took them almost 30 years to reconstruct it. I know it wasn’t allowed but I might have taken a few pictures of the room (was not the only one though lol).

After the tour through the palace we had a little walk in the garden. People have told me that it looks prettier in the summer with all the flowers etc but we had lotsa snow which made it look like a winter wonderland. As I mentioned earlier I could totally live there!!

I don’t remember what time we were back at the hotel but we(aka the girls) did not have a lot of time to get ready. Most of us changed and put on some make up for the limousine tour which was after our dinner at the yummy sushi place. This time our waitor did not speak good English but he and his waitor friend laughed at us(or maybe even with us? lol) all the time. We had a good time. After dinner we rushed back to the hotel and then there was that little white shiny car waiting for us outside. We were all very excited and could not wait for the tour to start. The driver did not speak English but he got us 4 bottles of champagne which def. helped us to understand him better or maybe vice versa lol. The more I drank the better I felt…I think the alcohol kinda desinfected the germs and bacteria in my body lol.

We stopped a few times so people could smoke,take pictures and pee. Of course girls had a harder time to go pee as the public toilets were closed and we did not really feel like peeing on a tree. So we just kept it inside and almost died(but thats another story). We had 2 minor tragedies as 1 of us had to throw up cuz he had stomach problems(not because of the alcohol but food i guess) and another one just fainted twice. I have no idea why but it looked very scary. We dropped them off at the hotel and then we continued our last night. We went to some club(forgot the name) and the minute they noticed we were foreigners they tried to get money out of us. They wanted to have 2000 rubles deposit from each so we could get in. They told us we would get it back later…jajaja right come on we’re not THAT stupid! Then they just wanted 1000 rubles and after telling them that we’re gonna leave again they let us in for free.

The club was so much fun! There even was a pole in the middle of the dance floor where all those Russian girls tried to impress us with their prositute-dance.

Later that night we kinda took over the pole and used it for our fun dances and I think those Russians where mad at us. I could not have cared less. I am not sure what time we left that club but I remember that I fell asleep there.Not because I was drunk but because I was so tired(loooooooooong day). Thank god Jacque joined me and napped as well lol.

Back at the hotel we went to the hotel bar and had a little snack. Don’t remember what time we left the bar either as I fell asleep AGAIN lol. When I was in my room I was so tired that I did not even take off my make up but fell right into bed which I regretted when I woke up the next morning lol.

Nothing spectacular happened on Sunday. Just some packing and then we checked out the church right across our hotel. I liked this one better than the “colorful church” because people actually went there to pray and there were priests. Very interesting but still a bit scary as those old Russians in there gave us evil looks even though we behaved like professionals

The train ride back was blaaaaaaaah. Whenever I fell asleep I was woken up by customs, the people who check out your passport and visa like 10 times or the annoying sports team which consisted of loud 12 year old Finnish girls who steppped on my feet everytime they passed my seat. Life is hard!

We arrived in Helsinki at 10pm on Sunday and I was so glad when I was home and could fall into my precious bed before going back to class Monday morning and falling sleep in class.

All in all I can say that I had an amazing time in Russia even though the people kinda scared me (a lot). Thank you to all my ladies and my lords for making me drink vodka shots like a Russian

Dès que je trouve la raison qui va bien je vous la communiquerai… sur ce blog.

Rassurez-vous, depuis Juillet il s’est quand même passé un minimum de choses.
Le 31 arrivaient ma mère et mon beau-père pour 2 semaines, a la decouverte de l’Ouest. J’y consacrerai un autre article (si…) car ce fut un voyage riche en aventures !

Le jour de leur départ arrivait… mon matériel de mix DJ ! Table de mixage, platines CDs, Enceintes de monitoring… bref l’ideal pour ecouter de la musique et perfectionner mes techniques.
Techniques que j’aurai l’occasion d’eprouver lors d’une soirée Trance Psychedelique dans un bar le 21 octobre, grâce à la rencontre de DJs locaux.

Le week-end du Labor Day arrivant, me voici reparti avec Cédric à la découverte du Sud de la Californie. Un passage à San Diego pour 1.5 jours / 2 nuits, puis virée à Los Angeles ! Un bon petit week-end mémorable.

Hollywood et moi

Puis un pote de promo Miage (Gilles, si tu nous regardes) est venu visiter les environs et me faire un coucou, avant que nous partions ensemble pour le week-end du 19-20 septembre au festival Symbiosis, un des plus gros festivals électroniques des environs. La encore, un week-end memorable a ecouter des artistes que j’attendais depuis longtemps, et a retrouver des amis parcourant le monde.

De retour de ce week-end, je célebrais (interieurement) mes 4 ans de presence chez Yahoo!, le 21.

Quelques semaines apres, c’etait au tour de Yohan et Erika de finir leur periple ouest americain a San Francisco. Je me suis donc greffé a leur groupe pour pouvoir faire un tour de limousine et profiter d’un bon repas aux Joulins, restaurant Jazz bistro d’inspiration Française.

A j’oubliais, auparavant le 3 octobre j’ai assisté avec plusieurs collègues de boulot a la LoveFest, la LoveParade de San Francisco. Bonne journée, suivi d’une bonne petite soirée Trance Psy dans un club de la ville.

Puis vint la celebration des 40 ans de Woodstock au Golden Gate Park, et la celebration d’Halloween.
Vous le savez peut-etre, je ne suis pas tres interesse par cette coutume d’ordinaire. Mais cette année j’ai quand meme voulu tester ca d’un peu plus pres, donc je suis allé louer un costume et hop, c’est parti pour le week-end !
Vendredi soir, soirée au Ruby Skye avec notre ami Ferry Corsten, puis samedi soir, house party (soirée privée) en compagnie de mon pote Thomas.

Rajoutez a cela quelques week-end tranquilles a rattrapper du sommeil, d’autres a parcourir la ville ou bruncher, encore d’autres a…bosser (c’est arrivé une ou 2 fois), et vous aurez un bon petit aperçu de ces derniers mois !

Au programme de ces prochaines semaines, un repas de pre-Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving itself, Noel et pour finir l’année en beauté, un petit voyage au Brésil pour le festival Universo Paralello !
De quoi passer mon premier reveillon du Jour de l’An au soleil, a mixer sur la plage…

Vous l’aurez compris, je ne prevois pas de retour en France avant la fin de l’année et vous allez me manquer, mais je prévois ça pour 2010 à coup sûr.

Une dernière chose et non des moindres, c’est maintenant officiel le site de Yahoo! Grenoble est amené a fermer dans les prochains mois. Apres son inauguration en octobre 2008, le site avait d’abord vu une separation d’avec Kelkoo (vendu fin 2008 à un fonds d’investissement Anglais), puis une vague de licenciements due a une restructuration a l’echelle mondiale du groupe.
Malgré les efforts de mes talentueux collegues pour valoriser le site alors inauguré par le Ministre de l’Economie en personne, la nouvelle strategie aura donc eu raison du site et 78 employes a temps plein sont a reclasser. Qui sait, pour certains ce sera peut-être l’occasion de venir nous rejoindre outre Atlantique…
D’ici là, j’ai bien évidemment une pensée triste et nostalgique pour mes collègues, même si je suis sûr que la plupart d’entre eux sauront rebondir de belle manière.
