“No compromise”, tout est dans le titre…

“Sans compromis”, voilà ce que cela veut dire…

Je me souviens…j’ai d’abord commencé par écrire le refrain : Will you love me forever ? (“est-ce que tu m’aimerais pour toujours”) et sans compromis ?

N’est-ce  pas ce qu’on espère tous ? Etre aimé tel que l’on est. Pas facile de nos jours, j’ai l’impression…

J’ai écrit en partenariat avec Damien Pisano. Nous étions chez moi et je lui ai montré la mélodie du Refrain, il a pris sa guitare et tout le reste est venu assez facilement : les couplets et tout le reste…

Une histoire universelle qu’est l’amour !

J’aime les arrangements de Jackson Mackay sur l’album qui en a fait une vraie chanson entraînante et prenante.

Je me passerai bien de vous traduire les paroles (je vous laisse bosser un peu) mais je me souviendrai toujours dans quel état émotionnel j’étais quand j’ai commencé à penser à cette chanson…et vous ? Que vous évoque cette chanson ?

You know you should be getting some sort of exercise, you know of all the health benefits that come with a more active lifestyle. you’ve tried the whole Gym thing, but it just wasn’t for you. The temptation to just sit in front of the TV, to curl up with a good book, or to spend a little extra time at your computer is just too big. Who wants to head to the gym right now anyway?

There are many other options to get more active that don’t include jogging, weight lifting or other traditional ways to work out. Here are a few ideas to get you moving

1) Chase your Kids around the Yard
You would be surprised at how much of a work out you’ll get playing catch with your kids. Time will fly while you are having fun and your children will enjoy the extra time with you. Just get out there and play.

2) Turn up the Music and Dance around the Living Room
While you’re dusting, putting up dishes, straightening up the kids’ rooms, or after you’ve been sitting around for too long, just play some of your favorite upbeat music and dance around in the house. Not only will you get your heart rate up, but you’ll also have more fun doing some of those chores.

3) Plant some Flowers
When the weather is nice, just get out there and plant some flowers. Or you could start a little vegetable garden, trim some hedges, cut the grass, or plant a tree. You get the idea. Just get out there, enjoy the sunshine and fresh air, and play in the dirt. Yes, this actually counts as exercise in our book.

4) Go for a Walk with a Friend
Take a walk and invite a friend to come along. I’ve had some of the best conversations while on a walk. Getting to chat with a friend makes the time fly by and before you know it you’ve been walking for 30 minutes.

5) Listen to some Music or an Audio Book while You Walk
Again, keeping your mind on something else will make the time fly by and you’ll get some extra fun out of your walk. You may even want to consider getting an MP3 Player. You can easily add what you want to listen to and go for your walk.

6) Sign up for a Yoga or Pilates Class
Consider starting a yoga or Pilates class. Both of these workouts are pretty low impact and won’t leave you sweaty and sore (mostly). You may also enjoy meeting some new people in the class.

7) Take some Dance Lessons with your Partner
Ok, here is the tough part: Convince your partner to take some dance lessons. Dancing will give you quite the workout and it’s just plain fun and of course romantic. Think about all your options here. You can pick from anything from Ball Room Dancing, to Line Dancing, to Latin etc. Pick something that sounds fun to you and go for it. you’ll enjoy the extra one on one time with your partner as well.

8) Go for a Swim at Your Local YMCA or Aquatic Center
Swimming makes for some great exercise. It is low impact and easy on your joints. Start by swimming a few laps, or play in the pool with your kids.

9) Go for a Bike Ride
Take the entire family on a bike ride. You can ride through your neighborhood in the evenings or plan a longer trip for the weekend. Pack a picnic for extra fun and start peddling.

10) Go for a Hike
Look for some hiking trails in your area and go for a hike. This could be a fun activity for you and a friend, or take the entire family along. Start with some easy trails and work yourself up to some longer or steeper trails.

Go ahead, pick one or two of the activities and get moving. I’m sure you’ll come up with plenty of versions of your own. The most important thing is to find something you enjoy, so you’ll stick with it. Get out there and get moving today.

I’m ready, je crois que c’est LA chanson de l’album  qui me ressemble

le plus…du moins, dans cette période de ma vie.

Les couplets sont remplis de questions, et le refrain ne donne pas la réponse, mais il encourage à continuer…bref : une belle contradiction !

J’avoue, j’ai d’abord écris cette chanson en pensant à moi…et au courage qu’elle pourrait me donner dans les moments de doutes.

Douter, c’est une bonne chose…mais l’optimisme c’est encore mieux ! et c’est ce que je suis : une éternelle optimiste.

J’ai d’abord commencé par écrire ces mots sur mon carnet :

I’M READY ( = « Je suis prête »)

Je suis prête pour tout ce que la vie veut bien m’offrir ! Je suis prête à sourire au jour qui se lève et à la nuit qui vient. Je suis prête à être heureuse…car, ça n’a pas l’air comme ça, mais être heureux, cela demande pas mal d’investissement, de courage, et de remise en question !

C’est aussi pour cela que j’ai décidé d’appeler mon album « I’m ready » : je suis prête pour vous montrer mes chansons, ce que j’ai à l’intérieur de moi, je suis prête à partir à la rencontre du public.

This is also why I decided to call my album “I’m ready: ” I’m ready to show you my songs, what I have inside of me, I’m ready to go to meet the public.

Moreover, for those who are curious, I urge you to watch the interview on my album for VIBZER tour: an interview shifted with the complicity of the great composer and guitarist Jean-Félix Lalanne. Well worth it, believe me!

Once the text in hand, we started working on the music Damien Pisano … with some chords and the melody came. I was not a little proud of us that day!

Si je me souviens bien, c’est une des premières chansons

sur laquelle nous avons travaillé avec Damien Pisano.

Un après midi de Juin, chez moi, dans mon petit studio.

Un jour, j’ai envoyé un message à Damien. J’avais entendu sa voix sur son myspace, et je voyais que sur facebook nous avions des amis en commun.

Alors, j’ai pris mon courage à deux mains, et je lui ai écris, en lui demandant si il serai intéressé pour m’accompagner sur scène. Je m’excusais dans mon message d’oser lui demander cela !…Mais sa réponse fut très drôle : il m’annonce que nous nous connaissons déjà et même que nous avons passé les auditions de la nouvelle star ensemble !

Et là, je vie en direct devant mon écran un flashback : devant mes yeux, je revois la scène ! Je me souvenais de lui : sa guitare, sa voix…nous avions même discuté.

Il s’était passé tellement de choses depuis ! Et là, je me disais : mais comment ai-je pu l’oublier ?

Bref. Après une première rencontre, Damien me transmet un Cd avec des musiques à lui. Une des musiques comprenait le riff de guitare que vous pouvez entendre dès le début sur « Better this way ».

J’ai tout de suite adoré son style musical, et je savais que nous pouvions écrire de bonnes chansons ensemble. J’étais vraiment très honorée qu’il accepte de  travailler avec moi.

Pour « Better this way », tout est aller très vite :

nous avons écris la musique,la mélodie et le texte : tout en même temps.

J’avais une idée bien précise de ce que pouvait m’évoquer ce riff : un sentiment de besoin de liberté.

« Nobody never owns anybody » =

« Personne n’appartient jamais à personne »

Et c’est ce qui est très effrayant et passionnant en même temps dans la vie : nous ne sommes jamais sur de rien. Un jour, quelqu’un fait parti de ta vie, et le lendemain, c’est déjà de l’histoire ancienne.

Pour ma part, lorsque j’entends cette intro [que j’adore !], je me vois en train de faire du cheval dans un champ avec l’horizon à perte de vue, un sourire sur le visage et du vent dans mes cheveux…

Le vent de la liberté qui souffle sur mes ailes…

One June’s afternoon ,  in my little studio.
One day, I sent a message to Damien. I heard his voice on his myspace, and I saw on facebook that we had friends in common.
So I took my courage in both hands, and I’ve written, asking him if he would be interested to join me on stage. I apologized in my message to dare ask him that! …
But his answer was very funny he told me that we already know eachother and as we passed the auditions of the french popidol  together!
And, I live a “flashback” in front of my screen : in front of my eyes, I see the scene! I remembered him, his guitar, his voice … we even talked together.
It happened so much since then! And then I thought, but how could I forget him?
Anyway. After an initial meeting, Damien sends me a CD with music on it. A music included guitar riff you can hear at  the beginning of “Better this way.”
I immediately loved his music style, and I knew that we could write good songs together. I was really honored that he agreed to work with me.
For “Better this way,” everything was going very fast: we wrote music, melody and text all at the same time.
I had a clear idea of ​​what I could describe with this riff: a sense of need for freedom.

And that is what is scary and exciting at the same time in life : we ​​are never sure of anything. One day, someone is part of your life, and the next is already an old story.
For my part, when I hear the introduction of this song [I love it], I see myself  horse riding in a field with the horizon of sight, a smile on my face and the wind in my hair …

Dans “Peindre mes souvenirs”, j’y ai mis toutes les images de mon enfance…

…tout l’amour de mes parents, de ma famille.

Récemment, je parlais avec un ami de mes peurs : la peur d’oublier est quelque chose de très présent chez moi. C’est peut être aussi pour cela que je suis si nostalgique parfois et que j’ai ce besoin profond d’écrire. Ecrire pour ne pas oublier, écrire pour se rappeler.

Cette chanson n’est pas seulement une chanson nostalgique,

c’est aussi une trace que je laisse pour ceux qui me succéderont. C’est un hommage à ce que m’ont transmis mes parents.

Pour ceux qui ne le savent pas encore , mon père est peintre. J’ai toujours adoré l’art, mais surtout les tableaux. Un jour j’ai réalisé que derrière chaque tableau, il y avait une partie de l’histoire de notre famille. La vie fait que parfois les familles sont séparées, on a moins de temps les uns pour les autres. Je me suis imaginée que mon père aurait pu peindre une oeuvre qui nous garderait toujours tous ensembles, une oeuvre dans laquelle on aurai pu plonger le regard et même loin des siens, se souvenir qu’on est pas seul.

Je ne me souviens pas exactement où et comment j’ai écrit cette chanson, mais je sais que je l’ai écrite d’une seule traite, parole et musique.

Je me souviens en revanche lorsque je l’ai joué la première fois : j’étais chez des amis, mes parents étaient présents et ils ont été tous les deux très émus.

Tellement de choses ont changé depuis que j’ai écrit ces mots, c’est pourquoi j’ai la gorge qui se serre à chaque fois que je la chante en concert. A défaut d’avoir peint mon propre tableau,…

…j’ai écrit ma chanson qui fixera à jamais ce que nous étions à ce moment là.

In “Peindre mes souvenirs” I put all the images of my childhood …

… all the love of my parents, my family.

Recently, I spoke with a friend of my fears: fear of forgetting something is very present in me. It may also be why I’m so nostalgic and sometimes I have this deep need to write.  write to remember.

This song is not only a nostalgic song,

For those who do not know, my father is a painter. I’ve always loved art, but especially the tables. One day I realized that behind every picture, there was a part of our family history. Life does that sometimes families are separated, there is less time for each other. I imagined that my father could paint a work which always keep us all together, a work in which you will take a look away from home, remember you are not alone.

I do not remember exactly where and how I wrote this song, but I know that I wrote in one sitting, speech and music.

But I remember when I first played, I was visiting friends, my parents were there and they were both very moved.

So much has changed since I wrote those words, so that my throat tightens whenever I sing live. Failing to have painted my own table …

I wrote … my song to fix what ever we were at that time.

First we picked up lunch from a wonderful little bakery/caterer/deli in Peoria. It’s called the Cracked Pepper and they had pepper grinders everywhere!

These were my favorites. Isn’t the gold so pretty?

Then, because the sun was out, we drove down to the Peoria waterfront and ate our lunch on a bench outside. We bundled up so we wouldn’t freeze and it was so wonderful to just sit in the sun. And cheap!

Then, ever the scavengers for cheap activities, we headed to the Caterpillar Visitors Museum to check out all the big machines Mike helps build. He gets in for free and I only cost $7. Sweet! Keep a lookout for student, senior, employee deals in your area to save yourself some dough. You can find out events and discounts in local (free) papers and handouts in newspaper stands.

I lost track of what all the machines were called… But they’re cool! And Mike helps make them

This is the WHEEL of the biggest truck made, ever, in the world. It’s used for mining and the bed of it is 35 feet wide. In the museum, they fit a movie theater in it. So sweet.

The simulator driver things. I had really wanted to get my operators license until I tried this thing. Mike was awesome. Me, not so good. Lol.

Then that night…drumroll please…we went line dancing! What?? I never really thought about it but, of course, line dancing in the midwest is the real deal. It was about 20 minutes from our house in a real barn called Stone Country Saloon. There was a massive dance floor and tons of locals (none of them wearing plaid oddly enough). It turns out that when I get a couple beers in me, I’m really pretty good at line dancing. I pick up the moves like a champ. By the end, I had people coming up and teaching me the steps. I guess that’s normal in these places but I felt privileged.

Mike stayed at the bar to watch most of the time but jumped in when he felt he could do it. Isn’t it weird how much more nervous to mess up men are when it comes to dancing? Maybe it’s their lack of hips. I don’t know.

But I’m in love. I’m going back this weekend. I want to get to know the patrons there. And the awesome saloon owner, Dan. And I WILL get good at line dancing before leaving the midwest.

On top of all this wonderfulness, the cover on a Saturday is $7 (a little steep) but the beers were $3 (makes everything ok).

La première fois que Jackson m’a fait écouté l’arrangement qu’il avait fait pour cette chanson, j’ai pleuré.

C’était exactement ce que je voulais !…Nous étions dans son studio en Alsace, au mois de Janvier 2011.

Ce titre “If you”, je le porte depuis tellement d’année…mais l’émotion en le chantant reste intacte.

Oui, c’est une chanson d’amour [encore !], mais c’est aussi une chanson d’amitié.

Je ne vais pas vous traduire la chanson…non, ça, je vous laisse vous en charger si vous êtes curieux. [Les paroles ici]

Je peux vous raconter quand je l’ai écrit  :

C’était en 2004, un été en Normandie. J’étais dans ma chambre et il pleuvait cet après midi. Voilà comment installer un décor idéal pour une chanson remplie de nostalgie, de tristesse, d’amour.

Je venais de finir le roman “Ensemble c’est tout” d’Anna Gavalda. Un des livres qui m’a le plus bouleversé ! Sans réfléchir, j’ai pris un crayon pour écrire dans mon journal, et c’est devenue une chanson.

Les premières notes que j’ai trouvé avec ma guitare étaient sur “I would love to talk to you, and i would like to share a coffee with you…”

Ce dont je suis le plus fière : j’ai écris cette chanson en anglais pour qu’elle soit écoutée et entendue à travers le monde. Et lorsque je l’ai composé, j’avais la ferme intention de la mettre sur mon premier album. C’est chose faite. J’ai remplie ma mission pour cette chanson.

A mes yeux, “If you”  c’est une bouteille à la mer,

une lettre qu’on enverra jamais…

What I am most proud of: I wrote this song in English so that it is heard and listened to around the world. And when I composed it, I had every intention of putting it on my first album. It’s done. I filled my mission for this song.

Lorsque nous avions décidé de réaliser l’album ensemble, Jackson m’a offert de pouvoir piocher aussi dans ses chansons.

J’ai tout de suite beaucoup aimé la version de Jackson, et j’ai eu très envie de la chanter : les paroles, la musique : tout me touchait.

Alors, j’ai d’abord fait un essai sur l’arrangement de Jackson : cette chanson était faite pour moi ! Pour mon album, Jackson a réalisé un nouvel arrangement.

Depuis que je la chante, cette chanson a beaucoup évolué, et je dois dire à présent que la version que je préfère, c’est la version LIVE que nous avons enregistré pour VIBZER avec les talentueux Geoffrey Chaurand à la guitare et Flavio Cipriano aux percus. Cette formule acoustique m’a fait découvrir la chanson sous un autre angle, et je la chante différemment. [VIDEO LIVE ICI]

J’aime la nostalgie que provoque en moi cette chanson.

Pour moi, elle m’évoque les dimanches soirs en hiver. Je n’ai jamais beaucoup aimé les dimanches soirs…allez savoir pourquoi ? Elle m’évoque également l’attente du retour de l’être aimé…et le temps qui passe inexorablement.

I discovered “Already Seven” listening to Jackson Mackay’s album “Border Lands.”

When we decided to produce the album together, Jackson offered me to draw as in his songs.

I immediately loved the Jackson version, and I longed to sing it.  the lyrics, the music just touched me.

So I  made a first test with Jackson’s arrangement : This song was made for me! For my album, Jackson made ​​a new arrangement.

Since I sing it, this song has changed a lot, and I must say now that the version I prefer is the LIVE version that we recorded with the talented Geoffrey VIBZER Chaurand guitar and percussion to Flavio Cipriano . I love the nostalgia that causes to me this song.

For me, it reminds me Sunday night in winter. I never liked the Sunday night … who knows why? It reminds me also waiting for the return of the beloved … and time passes inexorably.

Hi everybody!  Big D Bash is coming up fast.  There are only 32 days before the event.  Big D Bash is unique on the UCWDC circuit in that it is a “Line Dance only” event.  No couples.  No ProAm… we’ll almost no ProAm.

There is a little known category of dance competition called “ProAm Line Dance.”  Here is how it works:

1. You find an instructor (like me).
2. You find some friends (optional, but it makes it a lot more fun)
3. You and the instructor (and friends?) pick out a line dance and the instructor teaches it to you and/or coaches you.  Any line dance at all!  Did you catch that?  You get to dance any line dance you want to dance!!!!
4. You enter the contest.  Here’s the “Pro/Am” part:
   The instructor dances on the floor in the competition with you!   You’re not out there all alone!
   So if you get stuck or your mind goes blank, then you have someone to look at other than the other competitors.
5. You have a great time, you win cool prizes, accolades, applause, you’re invited to be on Oprah and the Tonight show!   You become famous and retire and spend your weekends in the French Rivera. (that last bit is still being verified, but it’s what I heard! *wink*)

Basically it is a way for people who are “thinking” of doing line dance to get over that scary leap into the unknown:  “Eeeeeeeek, you mean I won’t have a Pro to hang onto?  Eeeeeeeeeek!”

We’ll you won’t actually be able to hang onto me, but I’ll be there on the floor with you so I’m your “emergency fallback plan.”  *grin*

So, if you’d like to try out line dance competition in a fun, easy, inexpensive way, then give me a shout!

Everybody should line dance — Especially ProAm “Couples” Students !

Line dancing is fun! But, if you need more reasons, let me share. *grin*

Here are some reasons why you should add line dancing competition in addition to your ProAm or Couples competition.

• If you’re competing in PA or Couples then you’re already at the event: you’ve already paid for the Weekend Pass, you’ve already paid for the travel, you’ve already paid for the hotel, and the costumes and the coaching. Why not dance as much as you can!? Get more for your money! More bang for your buck! Dance More! Woot!

• Right now, in the US and Canada, the field is wide open because there so few of us line dancers around! I’d like to see that change of course! But for now, if you enter, your odds of winning are awesome! *hint* *hint* Can we say cool prizes and 1st place finishes! Shhhhhh! Don’t tell anyone! *wink*

• Line Dancing is all about you! It is your chance to SHINE and to stand out. When you’re on the floor with your pro or your partner and a teeming horde of other competitors, then you are competing not only for placements but for the attention of the judges and the audience.When you line dance (at least right now) then all attention is on you. You stand out. You shine. You sparkle. You have your 15 minutes (ok, 2 minutes) fame! All kidding aside. Think about it. The judges have nothing to watch but you and suddenly your hard won dance technique that was lost in the crowd becomes wonderfully and beautifully visible when those same judges are watching you and only you! Then when they see you doing couples later or ProAm later, they remember. Trust me on this. My line dance experience got me through my whole 1st year in couples and proam and I lost track of the number of times I had a judge say “You’re doing couples and proam and line dance too!”

• Every time you enter line dance, those points from line dancing count toward your Overall Points Championships in the Top Male and Top Female Categories. Points are calculated by awarding five (5) points for each division/dance completed and then adding additional points for each 1st – 5th dance placement attained in each of those division/dances, e.g., First – 5 points, Second – 4, Third – 3, Fourth – 2, Fifth – 1.

• You can line dance all by yourself! You don’t have to pay a pro for practice time! You don’t have to co-ordinate schedules to get another person to the studio.

• You can line dance almost anywhere. Have a big dining room? A spare bedroom? I’ve even danced in the hallway and in my kitchen, on occasion, when I couldn’t get to the studio. (Pssst. There are no floor fees in your kitchen or dining room.)..

• When you line dance you’re dancing by yourself! There isn’t a pro or a partner to hang onto. Which is a GOOD THING! Because dancing by yourself will help you improve your …

Uhmm…not that I don’t love dancing with my lovely and talented dance partner and pro but having another person out there to worry about adds a HUGE level complexity to the dancing. Dancing on my own is MUCH simpler and doing so allows me to focus on, well, uhmm, ME! (Pssst.. nobody tell my dance partner or my pro I said that… ok? It will be our secret!)

• If you’re like me, then the part of “dancing” you hate most is the drills. UGH! There is nothing worse than being in the studio doing the same motion over and over and over and over and… well, you get the idea. But Shhhhh…. here’s a secret. Line dancing uses repetitive patterns. In other words, every 32 beats or 48, or 24 beats the pattern repeats! You get another shot at working on a specific step to improve the motion or balance or timing or…the list is endless. And SHOCKER! You are actually DANCING while you’re drilling to music!. OMG! What a concept. *wink*

So, line dancing is fun, the field is wide open, the skills will help improve your couples and proam dancing. What are you waiting for! It’s time to add line dancing to your line up!

The French version is called the “Le Madison” and is an in-line dance, with its signature song,as well, and was popular in the 1960′s; however, it is still danced at weddings and social events.  I recently attended a “diner dansant” (dinner and dancing event) and filmed a group of French people doing this dance.  The difference between the two dances isn’t much – can you tell the difference(s)?

Je vous parlais ici de la talentueuse chorégraphe québécoise Guylaine Bourdages qui a chorégraphié mon premier single “Dobedoobee“.

Cela montre bien l’importance de la Line Dance dans le monde !

Merry Christmas!

I hope you spent Xmas with those you love!

For my part, I must say that even if everyone was not there, I was surrounded and what was my surprise this morning to find this video, as a new Christmas gift!

When I tell you that a song doesn’t belong to us once anymore once it’s shared with world wide.

The greatest gift is that the songs travel: here is a good example!

After the “Ile de la Réunion”, here is DOBEDOOBEE danced and played  in Taiwan!

I mentioned here the talented choreographer Quebec Guylaine Bourdages who choreographed my first single “Dobedoobee.”

This shows the importance of Line Dance in the world!

Comment j’ai rencontré cette chanson ?

C’était un samedi après-midi de Juillet en 2009, en Belgique, du côté de Cereix. Je m’apprêtais à participer à mon premier festival country accompagnée par le Jackson Mackay Band.

A cette époque, je savais que je voulais faire un album, mais je ne savais pas QUAND [la date de sortie] COMMENT [avec quelle argent?] et surtout avec QUI ?

A qui allais-je confier la réalisation de cet album ?

Jackson a donc toqué à la porte de ma chambre, munie de sa guitare à la main, et il m’a dit “voilà, j’ai une chanson que j’aimerai te faire écouter. Puis-je te la jouer ?”

Simplement, il a chanté le refrain “dobeedoobeedoo” et j’ai tout de suite accroché ! Une mélodie efficace et des paroles en anglais qui me parlaient tellement !

Et quand il m’a dit “ce serai bien que tu la mettes sur ton album”, j’ai sauté au plafond de joie ! …oui oui oui, un grand oui ! Je ne sais pas si j’aurai à l’époque osé lui demander.

Quelques mois plus tard, Jackson et moi avons décidé de travailler ensemble sur ce projet d’album. Je lui ai donc confié la réalisation de mon premier “bébé musical” : 12 Titres !

Lorsqu’est venu le temps de l’enregistrer en Janvier 2011, Jackson m’a appelé en me disant “il faut que tu la chantes en Français ! Les gens ont besoin de comprendre les paroles et de pouvoir s’approprier le titre, de pouvoir chanter avec toi ! Il serai préférable que tu écrives un texte en Français”.

Quel défi ! Je devais me rendre dans son studio dans moins de 15 jours. Cela faisait presque 2 ans que je chantais cette chanson sur scène en anglais ! Comment allais-je faire ? Malgré l’angoisse de la page blanche, j’ai pris mon courage à deux mains, j’ai ouvert mon cahier d’écriture, j’ai respiré profondément : les mots sont arrivés presque de suite. En vingt minutes , j’avais mon texte en Français.

Nous avons par la suite choisi ce titre comme “premier single” de l’album pour sa fraîcheur, sa simplicité, sa positivité.

Aujourd’hui, j’adore le faire sur scène et entendre les gens chanter ce refrain !

Et mieux encore : lorsque vous le dansez ! Grâce à Guylaine Bourdage, qui l’a chorégraphié  pour la linedance ! Merci !

How I Met this song?

It was a Saturday afternoon in July 2009,in  Belgium near Cereix. I was going to participate in my first country festival accompanied by Jackson Mackay Band.

At that time, I knew I wanted to do an album, but I did not know WHEN [the release date] HOW [wich money?] And especially with WHOM ?

Who would I trust enough to realise my first album?

Jackson has knocked on the door of my room, with his guitar in hand, and he said “I have a song I’d like you to listen. Can I play it?”

Simply, he sang the refrain “dobeedoobeedoo” and I was hooked! Effective melody and English lyrics that spoke to me so much!

And when he said “it will be well that you sing it on your album,” I hit the ceiling with joy! Yes … yes, yes, a big yes! 

A few months later, Jackson and I have decided to work together on this album project. my first “music’s child” of 12 Tracks!

When it came time to record in January 2011, Jackson called me and told me “you have to sing it in French! People need to understand the words and be able to capture the title, to sing with you! it will be better if you write a text in French. “

What a challenge! I had to go to his studio in less than 15 days. It had been almost 2 years since I sang this song on stage in English! How was I going to do? Despite the fear of the blank page, I took my courage, I opened my copybook, I breathed deeply: the words came almost immediately. In twenty minutes, I had my text in French.

then We chose this song as “first” from the album for its freshness, simplicity, positivity.

Today, I love to sing it on stage and hear people sing the chorus!

And better still when you dance! With Guylaine Bourdage, who has choreographed for the linedance! Thank you!

Until the moment she asked me to go country-western dancing.

Knowing my disdain for country music and lack of interest to ever line dance, my mouth hung ajar when she asked for my attendance. Want to salsa? Count me in. Bollywood? You got it. Gangnam style? See you on the dance floor. Boot-scootin’-boogie? Pardon?

We walked to the door of Whiskey River (why are they always named similar? I guess Cowboy Hut wouldn’t have the same allure) and bestie’s boyfriend stopped to hold the door for me. Right on cue, the bouncer (are they more a ‘wrangler’ if cowboy hats and spurs complete their outfit?) said with the heaviest southern Texas accent, “See ma’am, chivalry ain’t dead.”

My mouth was hanging open again. We walked on all three feet of the red carpet (more of a rug, really) to where we were asked the password.

The PASSWORD.

What on earth was I getting myself into? A speakeasy? I left my flapper dress at home…

• It’s a good thing my friend is aware of these words to pass. We were ushered in immediately and there I stood, involuntarily stuck in place, staring.

Floor to ceiling was gorgeous wood, the chandelier circling on the rodeo-dance floor was made of beer bottles, and the sea of cowboy hats produced wave after wave of country-ness.

“It’ll be okay. Trust me,” was the assurance issued from my friend.

I overlooked the country dancers spinning their partners on the dance floor as the music crooned. At one moment I had to remind myself it is 2012 and I am merely visiting a foreign land. The bars were filled with scantily-clad women with matching lower back tattoos. Looking down, I realized I was in Animal Farm. There in every direction were cowboy boots. The finest leather. The latest detail. An array of colors in every direction. My eyes slowly made their way back to my own gams where like pegs, my black ballet flats remained indignant.

A unfamiliar song sounded and my friend eagerly grabbed my hand to drag me to the dance floor. We would be line dancing.

Line dancing in of itself is simple–a repeat routine typically with kicking (the air, preferably not a neighbor). A few steps in, the smile made its way to be plastered on my face. One thing led to the next, and before I knew it, I was enjoying it! ’Round and ’round we went, kicking, stomping, etc… and it was awesome! (don’t tell anyone)

Soon after that was done, my hand was grabbed by Sian’s boyfriend who wanted to two-step with me. Two stepping, I know how to do. Two steps on one side, one on the other. It is basic and boring.

Dancing backwards and letting a man lead you while dancing requires trust. It requires patience. It is awkward. Never mind the fact that you’re literally walking backwards and hoping you’re not slammed into other patrons, I thought it was cute he asked the best friend to dance so I obliged. Few normal steps here and fro, then a quick change in the 2nd act, what do you know!

• He started spinning me in circles, over, under.. where my arms were and how it looked, I’ll admit, I have no idea. The room turned into a painting with streaks of color and light as I spun around and around. Suddenly, I felt his hand around my waist again as we returned to taking two steps on one side, one on the other. This is why people love it, I finally realized. My smile stretched wider than the western prairie. Before I knew it, Eric was at it again, spinning my world and my brain. Weeeeeeee!

Raucous laughter filled the ears of my friends as I giggled and wiggled along with the country bumpkins.

All of a sudden an utterly ridiculous song came on and the dancers panicked– It would be Gangnam Style. Yes, I know the entire dance and no, I have no qualm about performing it in a public place– even if it is a country-western bar who mistakenly played a recent popular dance song…

With the knowledge of waking at 4am to catch my flight and the clock nearly striking 1am, I made my way outside to go where arm-in-arm we skipped to the car singing and dancing. Parking lots were a continuance of the dance floor and fun was to still be had!

Enjoying country music and dancing was something I never thought I’d like. But then again.. as my father says, “Never say never.”
