Assassin’s Creed Lineage is a short film made by Ubisoft  that you should check out if you have played or are playing Assassin’s Creed 2. It is about the story of Ezio’s father, Giovanni Auditore. It shows Giovanni’s role as an Assassin. Assassin’s Creed 2 briefly goes through what Giovanni had been up to at the beginning of the game, leaving behind a lot of questions like how the Auditore family got involved in the Assassin’s vs. Templars war. This short film will surely answer your questions.

Square Enix boss Yoichi Wada has high hopes for Final Fantasy XIV, believing it has a good chance of taking on Blizzard’s unstoppable World of Warcraft and snatching a sizable chunk of the vulture-ridden MMO market. 

Wada states that Final Fantasy XIV will rival WoW because it’s a sequel, and nobody has ever had a successful MMO and a successful sequel to that MMO: ”WoW is a tough competitor, but whether you are talking about EverQuest, Ultima or Lineage there has never been a company that has a continuously successful number one and two MMO.”

He also unequivocally said “yes” to Develop when asked if he believes that Final Fantasy XIV could pull WoW from its throne, although he added that that it would be “tough” to do so. 

Wada’s logic seems a bit kooky to me. Surely most MMOs don’t have a sequel because they don’t need a sequel. MMOs don’t work the same way as other games, and this is why World of Warcraft has never needed a World of Warcraft 2. If anything, a sequel is evidence of failure in the MMO market, since your first game obviously didn’t do a good enough job if you need to make a new one. 

It seems that Squenix may not be understanding how MMOs work … but a little thing like “not having an effing clue” has never stopped publishers before, right?

NKT detractors have claimed that after Geshe Kelsang’s retirement, the General Spiritual Director of the NKT will not be a Geshe, Lama or Rinpoche and therefore there will be no lineage for NKT in the future.

This objection arises from comparing the NKT-IKBU (New Kadampa Tradition – International Kadampa Buddhist Union) with the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, feeling that it should operate in the same way.   This does not have to be the case.   The living lineage of any Buddhist tradition exists in the hearts of its practitioners as realizations.  It cannot exist on paper or in titles such as ‘Geshe’, ‘Lama’ or ‘Rinpoche’.  These titles should be given either out of respect for the example that such a practitioner demonstrates, or as a qualification (in the case of ‘Geshe’) for a particular course of academic study.

In earlier times, titles and paper qualifications were not required for sincere spiritual Teachers and disciples.  For example, Atisha was not called ‘His Holiness’ or ‘Rinpoche’ or ‘Geshe’.  Even students of this great Master  who were called ‘Geshe’ (meaning ’spiritual friend’) such as Geshe Potowa, Geshe Langri Tangpa and Geshe Sharawa would not have recognised the Geshe degree that passes for a qualification to teach in the Tibetan Gelugpa tradition these days.  They did not engage in such formal study – they simply listened to their Spiritual Guide’s instructions and,  putting them into practice with a pure motivation, developed genuine realizations.  They then passed the lineage of the instructions on to their disciples.  Many great lineage Teachers of Je Tsongkhapa’s tradition  never passed a Geshe degree but they were serious, wise and realized Teachers.  As Gyalwa Ensapa, a lineage holder of Je Tsongkhapa’s tradition said in one of his many songs:

My only good qualities are that first I made single-pointed requests to my Spiritual Guide, then I practised my sadhanas as soon as I received them, and finally I attained enlightenment in three years and three months.

As it happens, the NKT-IKBU does have three study programmes, the Teacher Training Programme in particular being very rigorous, consisting of many years of study, exams and meditation retreats. Unlike the Geshe degree, it is not hampered by politics (for example,  to study at a Gelugpa monasteries these days it is necessary to have renounced the practice of Dorje Shugden, a political qualification stipulated by the Tibetan Government in Exile) and, while containing many profound philosophical subjects such as Lorig (the nature and functions of the mind) and the Middle Way, is also very practical and orientated towards the Yogi’s way of life with subjects such as training in meditative concentration and Mahamudra (unlike the Geshe degree which is not practical but merely philosophical).  To complete this study requires much dedication and many years of sincere practice. The final qualifications for any NKT-IKBU Teacher to aspire to are explained in the eleven reversals.

Just as the NKT-IKBU does not need to rely on traditional Geshe training neither does the NKT-IKBU have to rely on reincarnated Teachers or ‘Tulkus’ for lineage because it is not necessary.   Sadly, there are many examples in the Tibetan tradition of how the Tulku system has been abused for the sake of power, wealth and reputation.   Since mistakes and worldly motivations are common in these degenerate times, it’s not wise to rely upon such a system.   A Teacher should be assessed on the merit of their own teachings and example, not by their reincarnation lineage or titles.

The lineage of the NKT-IKBU is maintained as follows:  The essence of Je Tsongkhapa’s teachings on the path to enlightenment have been transmitted to Geshe Kelsang’s disciples, both orally and in written form.  These instructions contain everything required to reach enlightenment.  NKT-IKBU practitioners have therefore received the lineage of all of Buddha’s teachings and through their own sincere study and practice can become a lineage holder.  The purity and authenticity of the tradition is the responsibility of the Education Council of the NKT-IKBU, consisting of the Resident Teachers of all NKT-IKBU Dharma Centers, excepting the General Spiritual Director.  This system is entirely democratic and protects against the NKT-IKBU being taken in a wrong direction by an NKT-IKBU General Spiritual Director with a degenerated motivation.  More information about the function of the Education Council can be found in the NKT-IKBU Internal Rules.

Thus, having received the unbroken transmission of the genuine spiritual teachings of Je Tsongkhapa’s tradition from Geshe Kelsang, having been authorised to transmit them by NKT-IKBU, and by relying upon Buddha Shakyamuni,  the Teachers of the NKT-IKBU have the authority and blessings to transmit these precious holy teachings for countless generations to come.

By Whom Was Born Jesus

Some of the most skipped-over parts of the Bible are the long lists of genealogies.     It seems difficult to even pronounce some of the old Hebrew names.    So, we skip over something very important and wonder why space in the Bible is “wasted” with such long, boring  lists.

Actually, those long, genealogical lists are another proof to us that Jesus truly is the long promised Savior for every one of us.     God caused the Israelites to be very determined in keeping their genealogy intact, so that later generations could see that God’s prophecies do come true.    For instance, the long list given in Matthew chapter 1  that ends with “by whom was born Jesus”,  is the genealogy from Abraham to the Christ.    The original promise from God is recorded in Genesis 22:18, where God says to Abraham,

And in your seed  all the nations of the earth shall be blessed,  because you have obeyed My voice.

Abraham lived over two thousand years before Christ was born, and Matthew traces his descendants to Christ.     There is even more to God’s promise to Abraham than at first meets the eye.    The apostle Paul notes some details for us in God’s promise.     In Galatians 3:16, Paul says,

Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed.     He does not say, “and to seeds,”  referring to many,  but rather to one,  ”and to your seed,”  that is,  Christ.

It is in Christ only that all the nations shall be blessed.     He alone is that one seed of Abraham that would be a blessing to all nations.    All the other descendents of Abraham are not a part of being the special blessing for all nations that God promised.       God wants us to see how He is able to work over thousands of years of time to keep His promises.

And, no matter what our lineage, all those who believe in and trust Jesus as their Savior will be blessed with eternal salvation.    So, we learn that we are children of God through faith alone.     It no longer matters where we were born or where we now live.     Everyone who accepts Christ as Lord becomes a real part of God’s family.   

It is none other than God who makes us a part of His family.     John 1:12 assures everyone of that by saying,

But as many as received Him,  to them  He gave the right to become children of God,  even to those who believe in His name.

So, no matter who we are, our salvation is a gift from God, when we receive Jesus as our Savior by faith.     God proved His power to make that true by showing how He kept His promise of the one seed to Abraham.

Your special Christmas gift is to know deep down in your heart that the Christ child is a gift for you, too.     When we celebrate Christmas, we are rejoicing over the fact that Jesus now lives in our hearts to lead us to eternal salvation.

A real Christmas is not honestly celebrated, unless we accept Christ as our Savior.     People may be excited about all the activities and the pretend stories about Santa and Frosty — but, all of that is hollow and meaningless.     They have nothing to honestly celebrate.    

It is only when we have Christ in our hearts that we can celebrate the peace and joy of realizing the great depths of God’s love for us in Jesus.     As we think about the power of God to keep His promises, we say,  “Hallelujah!     My Lord, Your love for me is everlastingly faithful.     Thank You for leading me to see the greatness and beauty of Your love for me.”

Pilgrimage of the Heart: Tiahuanaco – Winter Solstice

Last year I was in Bolivia at the time of the southern hemisphere Winter Solstice.  I was fortunate to connect with a sweet Aymaran guide, Marisol, a present day descendant of the ancient, powerful and influential pre-Incan civilization of Tiahuanaco. Her family still lives in the town of Tiwanaku, close to the ruins of the temples that are still at the heart of the spiritual life of the Andes, and which are the prime place of the Solstice celebrations of Bolivia.

Although it is a pretty unimposing site, the ruins at Tiahuanaco are extensive and, for me, one of the most profound places that I have been to in South America.  The Tiahuanacan temples were literally buried by the invading Spaniards in the 17^th Century, as if by burying them they could obliterate the beliefs of the people.  Some of the temples were dismantled and the stones that built them used to erect buildings, including a church, in Tiwanaku.  Today, much of the site has still to be unearthed, and you need your imagination to explore how impressive this place once would have been with its seven-tier temples underpinned with extraordinarily complicated water channels.  Tiahuanaco was constructed in the Altiplano of the Andes on the site of a very powerful leyline which runs from there through Lake Titicaca and its spiritual centers, the Isla del Sol and the Isla del Luna, up through Peru [close to Cusco] and – should you wish to follow its path further north – on to Mt. Shasta in the United States. 

I’d planned my trip to Bolivia last year to coincide with the Winter Solstice celebrations, heading back to La Paz after a month on the road so that I could be present.  The altitude is high, and the temperature is cold there at that time of year.  On the morning of the Solstice, at my pre-dawn collection time, the atmosphere was very crisp and there was freezing fog and a beautiful hoare frost on the grasses that lined the road.  Marisol and I climbed into the car that was to take us to the sacred site of Tiahuanaco, and off we set. 

It generally takes well under an hour to get to Tiahuanaco from the center of La Paz, one of the largest cities in Bolivia and the highest at 13,000’.  We’d left extra time, anticipating that there’d be plenty of traffic that morning.  We snaked up the steep hill that leads out of the city up onto the Altiplano a thousand feet above.  As we left El Alto, the poorer part of town above the city, hundreds of Andean people were climbing into small taxis and rusty vans, making their way on the one road out to the solstice site.  The caravan of pilgrims traveling to celebrate this major day in the Andean calendar was well underway, horns blaring, cars crammed to overflowing with families, and vendors selling food for the journey to the anonymous outstretched hands emerging from the passenger windows of departing vehicles.  The road was busy, the driving careless, the visibility almost nil, and as we crawled along, it became clear that our car’s heater was not working.  I wasn’t so worried about the temperature in the car, although it was freezing inside, but the windscreen was becoming patterned by frozen flakes of condensation, and they were all starting to join together, and, in addition, the further we traveled, the thicker the fog.  The road ahead was all but invisible and in these dark spooky conditions cars loomed into view alarmingly, and the drive stopped being a formality and took on the feel of a ghostly journey, maybe to oblivion!  And then, Surprise! Surprise! the driver sprayed water onto the windscreen!!!  Instantly we were blinded as it froze fast and thickly.  He was all set to drive on, head out of the window, but Marisol and I weren’t up for it.  The road was dangerous enough already.  After some strong language from us in the back, he pulled over and started to clear the frozen windscreen by hand.  Time was rushing on, and it looked possible that we might miss the dawn, and the most important part of the celebrations.  It felt like a close haul, and it was certainly tense, but we got there. We leapt out of the car into the throngs of people converging on the main temples, and wove forward to find ourselves a ‘spot’ near the ceremonial site. 

Andean people from all over Bolivia journey to Tiahuanaco for the Winter Solstice, and their number is swelled by a small number of tourists, mostly backpackers, who want to be part of this special occasion.  In the early morning gloom it was hard to see the colorful ponchos, or the distinctive details in the hats of the Bolivian people that mark them as coming from one region or another.   Marisol and I ducked left and found a place close to ropes cordoning off the site within the Kalasasaya Temple where the ceremony was to take place.  Here, Aymaran priests accepted the people’s dispachos, offerings wrapped tightly in bundles of paper containing the bearer’s wishes, spelled out in small symbolic wax tablets and in other substances gathered together with items to bring good health and luck for the coming year.  It is from this spot too that the assembled priests spoke the blessings that greet this day, which co-incidentally also marks the start of the Aymaran New Year. 

The inky black early morning was starting to lighten, and only then did I notice that the area reserved for the priests and the elite was also surrounded by armed guards.  The sight of them felt so alien in this place.  Seconds later approaching twin lights shone full at us in the sky.  My early morning imagination said ‘UFO!’, but the thrum of rotating blades brought me back to reality.  It was a helicopter!  The crowd chattered excitedly and a band struck up as it landed.  Enthusiastic shouts of ‘Evo’ echoed through the temple as their President, Evo Morales, the first indigenous president of Bolivia, walked from the helicopter and, with his armed escort, passed one of the famous standing monoliths of Kalasasaya on his way to be greeted by the assembled Priests and Elders.  At least the presence of the soldiers was now clear to me, and they lost all of the disturbing connotations that I’d given them, and suddenly they were nearly invisible in a crowd that, in truth, consisted almost entirely of celebrants.  Some had been drinking heartily all night long, and the smell of alcohol and the sight of tottering locals added to the early morning atmosphere.

Not long after the band fell silent, the priests started to speak in their local tongue, and the light of dawn slowly started to illuminate the whole plain.  The first soft tones that preceded the rising sun back-lit the eastern hills, one side of the geographical cradle in which Tiahuanaco lies.  We all turned to face the spot where the sun would first greet us.  Just before it appeared above the horizon the crowd became silent, and as light coursed over the lip of the hill we raised our hands and, with palms facing its soft luminous disk, listened to the priests as they spoke the traditional blessings.  It was a truly great moment and for me the first time I viscerally understood why the veneration of the sun was at the center of the Andean cultures.  One minute I stood there frozen to my core, and in the next, as the sun rose and its tendrils reached out across the land towards me, I was enlivened by its warmth.  I felt life force rush through me, and the sun’s blessing became a heart-felt thing.  After each prayer the priests recited we, the crowd, raised our hands high, palms facing the sun, and as one said – JALLALLA! – a wish for the gift of balance to the world.  The vibration of our invocation coursed through us, through the land, and the blessing felt real and embodied.  In a matter of minutes it was done.  Wiracocha, the creator of all things, the Sun God, had risen to bestow his blessing on the new day and the Aymaran New Year. 

The ceremonial fire was lit in the center of the temple, and having offered his dispacho, Evo left with his guards, and the ceremony continued with a mad rush towards the priests from all those who wanted to leave their own offerings.  Marisol gave me a piece of Palo Santo wood, one of the sacred woods of the Andes, and I combined this with coca leaves and some water – which I had brought in the place of alcohol, the traditional offering – to make my own dispacho to the spirits blessing me on this day.  I joined the scrambling crowds of people who were scaling the earthen altar.  We placed our dispachos in the fire burning on top of it, and watched as our offered prayers were borne heavenward on the early morning wind. 

There was no waiting around.  The local people moved away quickly once they had left their offerings, and almost all of the tourists did too.  They left behind them a sacred site that looked disheveled, bearing testament to the huge all-night party that had just taken place.  All the guardians of the site, including Marisol’s uncle, were set to work clearing up debris, and removing the chairs that had been placed in the ceremonial area for the local dignitaries attending the celebrations.  As their work started I wondered around the area absorbing the sights, sounds and smells of the day.  Wiracocha’s stone – the huge, flat ceremonial stone towards the back of the temple before which the Sun Gate once stood – was covered in coca leaves that were slowly blowing away.  They were stopped only from lifting off in the breeze now cutting across the Altiplano by the alcohol that had been sprinkled on and around the stone by people honoring this creator being.  One of the big table-like stones – which earlier had been covered in a poncho onto which men and women tossed and picked coca leaves, which they then chewed as they chatted nearby – now looked strangely naked as it was revealed as part of one of the ancient Tiahuanacan altars of Kalasasaya.  In the background a plume of smoke from the burnt dispachos rose from the battered edges of the now deserted altar in the center of the ruins.

I’d spent time in the temple complex on several occasions both on this visit and previous ones, but on this day as the guardians cleared the site, it was possible to explore, experience, and to wander without being marshaled.  There are thought to be six temples at Tiahuanaco, though it is still possible that not all have been mapped.  Their purpose is not totally known today, but Marisol told me that in her culture they are believed to be places of veneration to Wiracocha and initiation into the Light.  I headed out of the main temple to the back of this sacred site, where a small temple, Kantatallita, was only now being explored by the archeologists. This tiny temple is said to have been for women.  On that Winter Solstice day no-one was there, and, in its unordered state, the little ruined temple resembled nothing more impressive than a hotch-potch of scattered stones.  Standing out amongst them was a single decorated door lintel, and a large, almost square, carefully defined and slightly indented stone, nearly 6’ wide.  The guide books describe it as a sort of maquet, a scaled plan for a much larger temple.  This didn’t seem to be the case to me, and as I stood there my thought was that this was the initiation stone of this temple, and so I asked Marisol if she would have any objections if I lay down in it, as that was what my intuition told me to do.  As a guide, and an Aymaran custodian of these temples, I wanted to be certain that I would not be offending her.  I explained why I wanted to do this, and she agreed.  I feel sure that she felt my love and deep respect for both her culture and this sacred place.  I lay down, closed my eyes, silently called on the spiritual guardians of the Temple, and relaxed.  Almost immediately the consciousness of the stone activated, and I had the sensation that I was sitting in a chair, and being lifted up the sides of a pyramid – not unlike the structures of the other 7-tiered temples at Tiahuanaco.  As I reached each new level, the degree of light within my cells brightened and increased until, near the top, I transformed from a being in matter to being a ball of pure unlimited light.  It was an extraordinarily powerful initiation, and, though it felt much longer, it all happened within a matter of minutes.  I thanked the stone, and came out, and invited Marisol to see what it revealed to her.  She too had a journey with light, seeing different colors the longer she laid there.  It was a new experience for her, and I was glad that we could share it together.   

Next we went back to the main temple, now all but deserted, to make our own offerings of thanks to Wiracocha.  In turn we circumambulated the stone in the ancient, time honored way of respect, making our offerings of thanks with coca leaves, Palo Santo wood, and water.  I called in the creatures that guard the Four Directions of the Andean compass, the Jaguar [or Puma], the Snake, the Condor and the Hummingbird, and with each direction spoke to them too.  As I finished I turned into the middle to face the stone.  My heart was wide open with gratitude for all the experiences of the morning, and as I silently stood, I saw a golden figure rising out of the stone, like a hologram – of this world and not – Wiracocha himself.  I was moved to tears.  As Marisol offered her respects she was forced to step back a little by the intense heat she felt coming off the stone.  And yet the stone was cool to the touch, and the day still chilly!

Not long after that we set off, but instead of going back to the City we headed into the nearby town of Tiwanaku to enjoy the festivals of dance that accompany the New Year’s celebrations.  I was one of only very few tourists in a town square that seemed to explode with color and sound as troops of dancers from many different regions, all clad in bright costumes, paraded around the square to the sounds of Andean pipes and drums.  A bank of local elders and dignitaries watched them from one quadrant; other people sat facing each other in the center of the cobble-stoned square, across long cloths set up like banqueting tables. They chatted as they ate their lunch, a mixture of colorful potatoes and dried fish scattered, like some exotic feast, between them.  We smiled at each other, each in our different ways enjoying the bounty of the day. 

I slowly took it all in, and as I stood there felt again my love of the Andean people.  I am drawn to the Andes and have traveled often to places along its spine, from Ecuador, through Peru and Bolivia, to Chile and Argentina, and on to Antarctica, exploring the land and connecting with their cultures.  I am always struck by our similarities, the unifying elements that we all have in our beliefs, myths, and stories, and in the wisdom that each one of our ‘tribes’ seeks to instill in their people.  It seems to me that wherever you are from, it all comes down to Love, Service, and Wisdom.  In the Andes this is expressed as Munay, Llancay, and Llachay.   To live life well is to master these three things, whatever lineage or religion you are from, wherever in the world you were raised.  These things together create balance – Jallalla!!!

Sorprendido quede de enterarme, que uno de mis juegos favoritos, Lineage 2, ya tenia figuras para coleccionar, y que ademas eran bastante preciosas, que es lo menos que podemos decir.

Quizas no son figuras muy conocidas, como las de DC o Marvel, pero creo que si asi lo fueran los fanaticos de Lineage no podrian aguantar las ganas de tenerlas, por que como veremos a continuacion estos chicos esculpen como los dioses.

Las primeras tres figuras estan a cargo de Cerberus Project, y estan hechas de resina.

Los valores de estas figuras no son muy aptos para cardiacos (7400 yen hacia arriba). Ademas es dificil obtenerlas puesto a que son muy solicitadas por los fanaticos que saben de su existencia.

De esta ultima figura (Dark Elf – Elfa Oscura) existen mas fotos que de las anteriores mostradas (de hecho estas son de un review hecho por un “suertudo” y “platudo” que logro comprarla), ya que es la figura mas conocida, que causo revuelo en la Wondercon del 2007, ahora en la Toy Fair 2008, tambien fue presentada en el stand de Organic Hobby, lo cual llamo nuestra atencion y decidimos investigar un poco mas a fondo de que habia de Lineage 2 en cuanto a figuras coleccionables, ya que recordemos que Lineage 2 es un juego MMORPG, lo cual hace que personas de todo el mundo pasen largas horas en un juego que te lleva a transformarte en un personaje dentro de un mundo imaginario, por lo tanto es “MUY” enviciante.

SEGYU LINEAGE

This was originally
taught by Manjushri as part of a special scripture known as “The Kadam
Emanation Scripture” (both the Gaden Lhagyama and Migtsema prayers
come from this scripture). This practice was then extracted by Je Tsongkhapa
himself. These days the practice is known as Gaden Lhagyama or the Hundreds
of Deities of the Joyful Land in English. The name derives from the
fact that on the 1^st verse we invite Tsongkhapa to descend
from Maitreya’s heart who is known as the ‘Protector of the hundreds
of Deities of the Joyful Land’.

This is an uncommon
close lineage that comes from Buddha, to Manjushri and directly from
Manjushri to Tsongkhapa. Through the kindness of Je Sherab Senge, Je
Palden Sangpo and Khedrub Sangye Gyatso, these instructions flourished.
Since these lamas came from a region called Se near Tashilunpo, we call
it the Segyu lineage.

When we do this
practice of Guru Yoga of Tsongkhapa according to the Segyu lineage,
we meditate on our root Guru in the aspect of Je Tsongkhapa – the embodiment
of 4 bodhisattvas. It will help destroy delusional and wrong conceptual
thought of our guru, therefore pleasing all the Buddhas.

For those who don’t know, Assassin’s Creed is a computer game that was released couple of years ago and is due to have a sequel. This excellent short movie, made of 3 parts or episodes, is actually a prequel to the Assassin’s Creed 2 story.

Aujourd’hui, c’est la sortie du deuxième opus du jeu. Mais je ne vais pas pas revenir sur ce jeu car je l’ai déjà bien trop présenté avant. Cet article n’a pas pour but que de mettre en valeur la promotion du jeu, avec une tactique qui ressemble presque à un bourrage de crane.
