If airships come back, my belief is that it would only happen in two ways. One, I imagine they would

If airships come back, my belief is that it would only happen in two ways.

One, I imagine they would probably be hybrid airships. The problem with traditional rigid airships like the awesome zeppelins in WWI and Crimson Skies is that they are very susceptible to wind, and landing them is much more difficult than it looks. Although it’s not quite the same, if you saw last weeks Top Gear, it illustrates this point.

Hybrid airships on other hand actually do not naturally float in the air. Without upwards thrust of some kind, they actually wouldn’t even make it off the ground. Hybrid airships instead use their lighter than air gas to significantly offset their weight. Making something the size of a 747 weigh only a fraction of it. To take off they use downward facing motors, but once airborne and in forward motion, an aerodynamic lifting body type design will generate sufficient lift that when combined with the lifting gas completely offset the ship’s weight and it flies.

Two, airships are not a replacement for commuter aircraft. Commuter planes like a 747 are extremely fast and simply put, are the quickest way to travel around the world. The roles an airship would play are either in the cruise/tourism industry, the same line of work done by luxury liners of the sea, or as large airborne transports to supplement large sea based cargo ships.

After being given a Birth to Potty pack before Iggy was born, we knew we had to give cloth diapering

After being given a Birth to Potty pack before Iggy was born, we knew we had to give cloth diapering a try. Since his birth five months ago, Fran and I have become cloth diapering pros and try to push it onto anyone who’ll listen!

Thinking back to before Iggy was born, it would have been helpful for us to have had a step by step photo guide to reference, so I figured I’d slap something together something to show how cloth diapering works. Our brand of choice is Real Nappies and we’re stoked that they’ve finally come to the US, having traveled all the way from the fair shores of New Zealand. Theirs is a prefold system using a 100% cotton diaper, a PUL cover and a biodegradable liner.

Step 1 – Take one baby and one diaper

Baby model may differ from the one advertised

Step 2 - Fold the bottom of the diaper to about 1/3 of the way up

Boys need a fold with more absorbency in the front.

Step 3 - Fold the right side of the diaper to the middle

It doesn't have to be exact.

Step 4 – Fold the left side of the diaper and tuck into the flap formed from right side

Make sure you tuck into the fold, otherwise it'll come undone

Here’s what the fold should look like:

If yours doesn't look like this, start your foldin' again

Now, get your cover ready

The second vital ingredient to this cloth diaper recipe

Step 5 - Put the diaper in the cover

Fits like a glove

Grab your liner (the third main ingredient)

It slices, it dices, it captures your baby's poop for easy flushing, tossing or composting

Step 6 - Put the liner on top of the cover

This liner is a KEY part to the cloth diaper equation

Here’s the up close and personal view:

Thank God this thing is doing all the hard work for you!

Step 7 - Place bubs on top of the diaper

Step 8 - Fold the velcro tabs to the middle of the diaper

We're almost there

And before you know it, your baby and his fluffy butt will have rolled over and be crawling away from you….

But don’t worry, he’ll be back before you know it, with a hungry belly and a full diaper

The finishing touch for my new (old) desk is a liner for the little drawer in the front. I made it

The finishing touch for my new (old) desk is a liner for the little drawer in the front. I made it using some leftover fabric from a mistake with my chair makeover so it coordinates nicely with the chair I’m using for the desk and even this little picture in the same room.

The first step was to measure the dimensions of the drawer. I then cut a piece of blackout lining my mom had on hand to fit the drawer. Blackout lining is fairly stiff so we thought it would help the liner look a bit more finished and keep the fabric I wanted displayed to appear smooth.

I then made sure it fit the drawer before moving on.

Next I ironed the fabric I wanted to display and then put the piece of blackout lining on top. I cut the monoluna fabric to be about one inch larger the piece of blackout lining.

Then I grabbed some adhesive spray and moved the project outside to an old tablecloth on the front porch. I lightly sprayed the glue on the edges of the patterned fabric and then folded this sides over almost like a package, making sure the front was pulled tight and appeared smooth.

And here is the finished product…

I just slipped it in the drawer and that was it. The finish inside the drawer was a little rough so the blackout lining just grabs on to it. It looks like it is attached, but is not so I can easily change it or remove it.

Om Nom Nom now has it’s own Flickr account as well as a Yahoo account. However, Om Nom Nom has no intentions of being available for Yahoo IM.

Today I felted four bags. One will need to be beaded, another I had to cut part off of so I will need to create the piece to go on top so that it still fits the food it is supposed to be, one lost a bit of its shape, and the last has been lined and has the zipper added.

I also started another bag that I intend to felt early tomorrow.

Opening is still on Monday as planned. I do not know yet how many will be immediately available until I have set up a time to meet with one of the two Om Nom Nom models.

Now it’s back to editing some pictures of liners and loading them to flickr.

On a halloween note, I was very curious as to why most gothic/punk fashion carry the BLACK LINER on

On a halloween note, I was very curious as to why most gothic/punk fashion carry the BLACK LINER on the eyes as a trademark. From where did this “dark eyed conception” come from? Between a couple of calls to some friends and the [kind of] trusty Wikipedia, I came up with a conclusion…

For ages, the black liner has been synonym to mystery and lust. Women who wear it are usually the more daring type. The men who wear it, are more shy and introverted. One thing they always have in common is: The darker, the better! Wiki actually gave me a blunt explanation from where this rage came from. “A dark, sometimes morbid, eroticized fashion and style of dress” with icons like Theda Bara, Bettie Page, Nico, David Bowie, Béla Lugosi and Siouxie Sioux.

Since it’s halloween, it was only appropriate that we take a look back at this Iconic fashion staple.

“I think I bummed out Jerry Cantrell pretty hard,” Dutkiewicz says in mock lament, reflecting on his black-carpet antics from a small lounge at his record company’s New York office. JoomlaJunkie “He was standing next to me, and I was just yelling. If [Alice in Chains'] comeback album doesn’t sell, it’s gonna be all my fault.”

As funny as he is on his own, Dutkiewicz is at his best when he’s with Jones. The two interact like a classic comedy team—the tall, wiry, pointy-haired guitarist playing the smart-ass jokester; the bald, muscular vocalist responding with gales of laughter and the occasional complementary one liner. free joomla Ario Lite template “I don’t even know what I’m doing here,” bassist Mike D’Antonio says with an awkward smile, crammed into the corner of a black couch, fully aware that he’s not really a part of the Adam & Howard Show.

For Killswitch Engage, humor is definitely a selling point. Dutkiewicz’s absurd stage banter captivates crowds and separates the band from other metalcore acts, and his outrageous commentary certainly makes interviews entertaining. free joomla SuperBlog template But the frivolity is also a defense mechanism, a way to avoid analyzing the band’s music too much or talking about anything too personal —which means that as Killswitch Engage prepare for the release of their fifth, self-titled album (via Roadrunner), Dutkiewicz and Jones are joking around more than ever.

The creative team at Badec Bros Deco realized that there was a demand for mild steel pot liners and subsequently set about designing and manufacturing these novel products.

These liners can either be rubberized to prolong the life of the liner; or they can be finished in a mild steel finish, rusted effect or in a powder coated finish. The type of protection depends on the over-all appearance of the Cubedec pot. Our powder coating is SABS approved and the variety of colours to choose from is endless.

Our mild steel liners can be welded into our pots or made to fit snugly, to create uniformity. We also manufacture a mild steel lip, measuring 10cm in width to cover the liner.

The main advantage of mild steel liners, is that it will discourage vandals from tampering with the pots and even from stealing the plants, as has been recorded in shopping centres. One can also play around with colour variations. For instance, you can powder coat the pot in one colour and the liner in another.

Should you wish to have your very own signature Badec Bros Deco Cubedec pot and liner, gabion counter, narration stand, gabion light cage, gabion bollard, gabion water feature, sculptured living wall, sculptured flagpoles, unique pot and drip tray, customized sculpture, Cubedec bench, trendy steel décor with your company logo emblazoned on it, mild steel inspirational slogan, steel laser-cut signage, mild steel mould, Cubedec Pot, hanging sculpture, gabion pot, gabion wall or gabion terrace, wooden or steel feature poles, bar code trellis, Cubedec water feature, pergola, arch, sculpture, dustbin or trellis, please feel free to contact our energetic and knowledgeable sales representative, Mareleen van Zijl, on her cell phone at 078 800 5112, the office number at 012 460 7990, or via e-mail at mareleen@badecbros.com

Run by the Keihan Group, this sightseeing boat company operates various cruises around the city of Osaka, long known as “the City of Water” due to the historical and importance of canals and rivers in the city. In fact, during the Edo Period (1600-1868), when Osaka was the economic center of Japan, storehouses of the powerful domain lords were in Osaka, as was the futures trading market, and the best way to get between the market and the storehouses (as well as just get around town) was by using the city’s network of canals. Seeing Osaka from the water is one of the ways to truly understand that character of the city, and because cruises feature refreshments for sale and explanations of passing scenery, residents and tourists can also have fun. Furthermore, cruises can be easily integrated into a city-center sightseeing itinerary, as the river routes connect some of the most popular spots in Osaka.
There are a variety of tours available. The Aqualiner services operate quite frequently every day, and they provide river sightseeing cruises that make stops at Osaka Castle, Tenmabashi, Yodoyabashi, and OAP (Osaka Amenity Park). Aqua Mini services cut north-to-south through the narrow Yokohorigawa River canal connecting the Okawa and Dotombori Rivers, and stop at Osaka Castle, Dazaemonbashi (in the center of the Dotombori entertainment district), and Minatomachi (a port near OCAT in Minami). The Himawari service is a restaurant ship that departs from OAP and goes along the Okawa River. The Santa Maria is a replica of the ship of the same name, and it provides sightseeing cruises around Osaka Bay, departing from Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan. The company also offers charted cruises and special event cruises.
While the Santa Maria and Aqua Bus tours operate every day, other tours may not. Please check the official website for departure times, days of operation, prices, and other details. Tickets can be purchased at the ticket offices at any of the ports.

Our resourceful décor team at Badec Bros Deco has created a wide range of contemporary mild steel Cubedec pots over the last two years.

Our Cubedec pots are manufactured out of 1,6mm mild steel sheets, which we fold and weld. All our pots are manufactured with a round inner steel bar to support plastic planters, which come standard with all our pots, unless otherwise specified.

You can choose between three finishes for your Cubedec pot: rusted, mild steel finish, or powder coating in any colour you can dream of. This is merely to protect the steel frame of your pot from rusting. Our powder coating is SABS approved.

Once the chosen finish has been applied, we seal the pot to protect it from rusting. All of our Cubedec pots are delivered with a plastic liner, unless otherwise specified. Round liners or square liners – stackers – are used to plant your plants in.

Alternatively, you can line your Cubedec pot with biddum cloth – weed guard – before planting your plants. This is especially a good idea for exterior Cubedec pots, as the biddum cloth provides excellent drainage and will also act as a sieve, when you water your plants. When you choose to use biddum cloth as a liner for your exterior Cubedec pots, we will manufacture your pot with a solid mild steel bottom and drill drainage holes in the plate.

Should you wish to have your very own signature Cubedec pot, green screens, man-hole grid, range of planters for a shopping centre, modern pergola, Cubedec steel dustbin, interactive sculpture, Cubedec shelving, Cubedec miniature Zen garden box, 2010 Soccer World Cup décor, mild steel lamp shade, mild steel screen, Cubedec laser-cut logo, gabion counter, narration stand, gabion light cage, gabion bollard, gabion water feature, sculptured living wall, sculptured flagpoles, unique pot and drip tray, customized sculpture, Cubedec bench, trendy steel décor with your company logo emblazoned on it, mild steel inspirational slogan, steel laser-cut signage, mild steel mould, hanging sculpture, gabion pot, gabion wall or gabion terrace, wooden or steel feature poles, bar code trellis, Cubedec water feature, arch, sculpture or trellis, please feel free to contact our energetic and knowledgeable sales representative, Mareleen van Zijl, on her cell phone at 078 800 5112, the office number at 012 460 7990, or via e-mail at mareleen@badecbros.com

Our Cubedec pots are manufactured out of 1,6mm mild steel sheets, which we fold and weld. All our pots are manufactured with a round inner steel bar to support plastic planters.

You can choose between three finishes for your Cubedec pot: rusted, mild steel finish, or powder coating in any colour you can dream of.

Our powder coating is SABS approved.

Once the chosen finish has been applied, we seal the pot to protect it from rusting.

All of our Cubedec pots are delivered with a plastic liner, unless otherwise specified. Round liners or square liners – stackers – are used to plant your plants in. You should always be sure about your measurements, so that the liner will fit in comfortable into your pot.

It is best to have a liner that leaves some space between it and the sides of the Cubedec pot, which will facilitate easy removal of the liner, should you wish to do so. It is also advisable to add a layer of mulch – pebbles, bark chips, et cetera – over the liner, which will round off the over-all appearance and serve to retain moisture in the soil.

Should you wish to have your very own signature Cubedec pot, green screens, man-hole grid, range of planters for a shopping centre, modern pergola, Cubedec steel dustbin, interactive sculpture, Cubedec shelving, Cubedec miniature Zen garden box, 2010 Soccer World Cup décor, mild steel lamp shade, mild steel screen, Cubedec laser-cut logo, gabion counter, narration stand, gabion light cage, gabion bollard, gabion water feature, sculptured living wall, sculptured flagpoles, unique pot and drip tray, customized sculpture, Cubedec bench, trendy steel décor with your company logo emblazoned on it, mild steel inspirational slogan, steel laser-cut signage, mild steel mould, hanging sculpture, gabion pot, gabion wall or gabion terrace, wooden or steel feature poles, bar code trellis, Cubedec water feature, arch, sculpture or trellis, please feel free to contact our energetic and knowledgeable sales representative, Mareleen van Zijl, on her cell phone at 078 800 5112, the office number at 012 460 7990, or via e-mail at mareleen@badecbros.com

We can manufacture your Cubedec pot with a 3mm lip, constructed from either angle iron or wood, which serves to round off the pot and also to strengthen it. This lip will also hide the plastic liner in the pot.

It is very important to consider the measurements of your pot and liner, before adding a lip to the design, as you might end up with your liner to fitting into your pot. A popular and beautiful combination, is a stainless steel pot with a teak lip.

Should you wish to have your very own signature Cubedec pot, green screens, man-hole grid, range of planters for a shopping centre, modern pergola, Cubedec steel dustbin, interactive sculpture, Cubedec shelving, Cubedec miniature Zen garden box, 2010 Soccer World Cup décor, mild steel lamp shade, mild steel screen, Cubedec laser-cut logo, gabion counter, narration stand, gabion light cage, gabion bollard, gabion water feature, sculptured living wall, sculptured flagpoles, unique pot and drip tray, customized sculpture, Cubedec bench, trendy steel décor with your company logo emblazoned on it, mild steel inspirational slogan, steel laser-cut signage, mild steel mould, hanging sculpture, gabion pot, gabion wall or gabion terrace, wooden or steel feature poles, bar code trellis, Cubedec water feature, arch, sculpture or trellis, please feel free to contact our energetic and knowledgeable sales representative, Mareleen van Zijl, on her cell phone at 078 800 5112, the office number at 012 460 7990, or via e-mail at mareleen@badecbros.com

This is the first installment in a series of reviews for phenomenal drugstore finds. Just because they don’t cost a bundle doesn’t mean they aren’t worth it!

I hate liquid liner. I really haven’t had much luck with it. Ever. Perhaps it’s due to sensitive eyes, but it always stings, always waters, and is quite unforgiving when it comes to mistakes.

Image from drugstore.com

Thankfully, I discovered L’Oreal’s HIP (High Intensity Pigment) cream eyeliner. I put off buying it, thinking it unnecessary to drop $11 on a drugstore liner. However, I was pleasantly surprised. It comes in a tiny jar with a miniature angled brush, and you only need the smallest amount to make it all the way across your lid.

This stuff is so smooth and slick! It dries quickly, too, and it’s perfect for lower lids as well. The brush it comes with seems to be decent quality—if the handle was a little longer, I would use it more often. Plus, most L’Oreal HIP products have amazing staying powder, and this one is no exception.

For $11, this stuff can’t be beat. It comes in black, brown, teal, midnight, and eggplant.

Image from ivillage.com

I’ve only tried the black, but I plan to stock up once some buy-one-get-one coupons cross my path.

Tip: Apply a smooth layer of liner to your upper lid prior to applying false lashes. Once your lashes are set in place, wait for them to dry completely. Then, slip on a second coat of liner to smooth out any imperfections and “seal” your lashes in place. By applying two coats—one before lashes and one after—you ensure that your lashes look as natural as false lashes can

When people have accomplished something extraordinary, put your praise in writing. Words are easy to

When people have accomplished something extraordinary, put your praise in writing. Words are easy to say but it takes time and effort to write them down. Even if it is a two- or three-liner, people will appreciate it.

Letters on your personal stationery should be reserved for those special occasions when a person has worked exceptionally hard and has accomplished something truly outstanding.

Memos and letters can also be effective when a person has made a major error or has made the same error on numerous occasions.. when you want a person to think long and hard about what he has done wrong, put it in writing. This should only be done on rare occasions.

There are two rules that should never be violated when giving people feedback via memos and letters:

Make sure the memo or letter is sent very close to the time of the event or accomplishment. A thank-you note or a note of raprimand sent two or three weeks after the fact defeats the purpose of the memo in the first place. In either case, the memo or letter ahould be marked “Confidential.”

Always personalize the memo or letter. If a group of people has worked exceptionally hard, don’t send the individuals a memo addressed to the group. Sending an individual a memo addressed to the group is like throwing a crumb to a hungry person. When a person has given his all to a project he needs to be recognized as an individual, regardless of how many people were involved in making it happen.
