First extract last 8 digits from the keys (for each errors)

Linux Mint 8, codenamed Helena, will be released very shortly (the Release Candidate is already available).

They’re running a little poll over at Linux Mint to select the default desktop wallpaper for the release. The choices mainly come down to either the same wallpaper as Mint 7, or one of the two designs I’ve inserted below.

Like most people, after installing a new system the first thing I usually do is change the default wallpaper, however Clem from Linux Mint believes that first impressions DO count and wants to make an impact with the new release. Let’s be honest here, Mint has always won the good looks battle against Ubuntu hands down. It’s nice also for users to be given the chance to give some feedback, so head over to the Linux Mint blog and submit your vote. I think I’ll be voting for the Fresh wallpaper!

Llegó la hora de empezar a descargar cositas (legales todas,c laro) así que miramos qué cliente de torrent trae Linux Mint por defecto.

Inicio>Aplicaciones>Internet>KTorrent

Como todos sabemos, las aplicaciones de KDE suelen empezar por K, así que ya sabemos de donde han sacado KTorrent.

La aplicación no tiene mala pinta pero claro, donde esté mi uTorrent… Así que directo para la web de uTorrent a buscar el cliente para linux. Peeeeero, dónde está? No hay!!!

Toca ahor decidir si me quedo con KTorrent o busco otro así que después de un par de búsquedas de comparativas de clientes torrent parece que todos apuntan a Deluge. Dicen que es el más rápido y parecido a nuestro querido uTorrent así que vamos a por él.

Nos vamos a google, buscamos deluge y vemos que la web no funciona!!! Esto no pinta bien, pero vamos a darle un voto de confianza así que abrimos Synaptic e instalamos la versión de los repositorios (1.1.6)

Y ya tenemos cliente torrent!! la verdad es que es muy parecida a uTorrent y de momento va bastante bien. Veremos lo que pasa con las primeras descargas.

Nota: Hay varios artículos que dicen como instalar uTorrent para Windows en Linux, a través de Wine. Yo lo intenté pero a media instalación me dice que la instalación ya está ejecutando y no puedo instalarlo.

   După ce azi dimineaţă scriam pe aici despre apariţia noii versiuni de Linux Mint 8 în varianta RC şi după ce am fâţâit-o niţel prin VM, m-am decis s-o pun şi pe USB şi nu pot spune decât un lucru – e o bombonică (de mentă, desigur) . Revin mai încolo .

   După apariţia lui Ubuntu 9.10 (care e chiar un distro reuşit faţă de predecesorul său) era normal să se ivesca şi derivatele sale mai mult sau mai puţin îndepărtate de original, Linux-ul Mint fiind chiar una din cele mai bune distribuţii bazate pe Ubuntu şi asta deoarece pe lângă design-ul propriu (întotdeauna au avut un artwork de calitate – bazat pe nuanţe de verde aşa cum îmi place mie) vine şi cu o serie întreagă de aplicaţii specifice – mintMenu, mintInstall, mintUpdate, mintUpload – totul ambalat foarte frumos pentru a avea o experienţă plăcută în Linux . Asta e primul RC de la Helena şi să sperăm că nu vor fi prea multe bug-uri de corectat până la apariţia versiunii finale .
