There’s nothing Evie likes more than singing songs. If you notice a common theme among her videos, it’s that they tend to be at the table. That’s because we make her sing for her supper. No, actually, I don’t know why she likes to sing at eating time, but that just happens to be when the mood usually takes her. Over Thanksgiving, some of the relatives got treated to the dinner theater we usually deal with.

First up, Rockin in the free world by Neil Young:

My favorite part is when she “messes up” in the beginning.

Yes, that song contains such fantastic toddler lyrics as, “Don’t feel like Satan, but I am to them” and “she puts the kid away and she’s gone to get a hit”, but don’t worry: the next video will prove that she has no idea what words she is singing. And besides, she self edited that line to “she’s gone to get ahead”.

Hakuna Matata from the Lion King:

Have you seen the trailer for the new Disney, the Princess and the Frog? Reviews from the other side of the ocean have been unanimous: Disney Studios have once again create a beautiful princess but this time with a more modern twist. From the director of Aladin and the Little Mermaid, the music is jazzy and makes your feet dancing! I can’t wait to show this movie to my little A. She is a big fan of the Disney movies and her favorite is the Lion King.

Disney Films are most of the time a safe bet to buy as a Christmas present but probably the old ones rather than the latest ones. We have just bought Snow White in Blu-Ray and it was a real pleasure to rediscover it as I must have been very very young when I saw it for the first time. I will probably bring over the film to my parents as the new edition has also a normal DVD included as well.

The Lion King will have the Blu-Ray version in January 2010 so I will be probably one of the first to line up in front of HMV and buy the movie. I have already saved money for this one!

If you don’t have Blu-Ray, you are quite lucky because you don”t have to wait to fill your Disney Collection. I have been waiting for their offer (buy one get one free) but I was disappointed because most of the films on the offers were the ones who had the less success.

Enjoy the trailer:

Scripture: “You are a king, then!” said Pilate. Jesus answered, “You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.” John 18:37 (NIV)

The crown is a symbol of power and authority. Who wears a crown? That’s right! A king or queen wears a crown. Being a king is different from being the president of a country. A president is elected by the people, but a king is is not elected, he is born to be king.

Have you seen the movie “Lion King?” As a lion, Simba was born to be the “King of the Beasts.” In one scene from the movie Simba sings, “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King.” If you have seen the movie, you will remember that one reason why Simba was so anxious to become king was that he didn’t want anyone telling him what to do. He didn’t want to hear anyone saying, “do this” or “stop that.” He wanted to be free to run around all day doing everything his way.

It wasn’t just that Simba didn’t want anyone to tell him what to do, he was also looking forward to telling everyone else what to do. Just listen to what he says! “I’m gonna be a mighty king so enemies beware! I’m gonna be the mane event like no king was before. I’m brushing up on looking down. I’m working on my ROAR! Oh, I just can’t wait to be king!”

I think that Simba had a very poor idea of what it means to be a king. You see, the real role of a king is to look after the needs of his people. A good king is more concerned with caring for his people than he is in being served.

During his last days on earth, Jesus was arrested and put on trial. When asked if he was a king, Jesus answered, “You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world.” Yes, Jesus was a king, but he wasn’t interested in running around free and doing things his way. He was only interested in doing the will of his Father. He was born to be king, but his kingdom is not on this earth — it is in heaven. He only came to earth to make a way for us to live with him in heaven.

Jesus “Just can’t wait to be your king.” He has invited you to enjoy eternal life in his heavenly kingdom. If you haven’t already accepted his invitation, I hope you will crown him as your King today.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, we invite you to rule our hearts as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Amen.

I have learned to accept the Top Five Unspoken Rules of Disney Animals: 1) Without explanation, anim

I have learned to accept the Top Five Unspoken Rules of Disney Animals:

1) Without explanation, animals can speak to each other in English. (Even when they are native Africans: The Lion King).
2) Humans can talk to animals and vice versa.
3) Goofy can walk upright and talk, but Pluto is just a normal dog.
4) When Donald Duck gets out of the shower, he is embarrassed by his nakedness, covering himself up with a towel. However, he never wears pants.
5) As a cartoon, Mickey Mouse is pretty much the size of a real mouse. But at Disney World, he is around 6 feet tall.

It’s all fine as long as these rules are consistent which each other within the Disney Universe. However, I have recently been made aware of a rare exception. A hole in the Disney Theory.

This exception to the rules involves one of my favorite Disney cartoon movies, Robin Hood. I’m referring to the 1973 version where Robin Hood is a fox. It contains an ever-addictive whistling theme which I can’t describe in words and the melancholy ballad “Not in Nottingham”. The movie is full of adventure, action, and romance.
The weird thing about it, though, is that it’s the only animated Disney movie I can think of where there are no humans AND the animals assume the role of humans (in other words the animals are anthropomorphic).

For example, in The Lion King there are no humans, but all the animals act like normal animals (other than the fact they can talk and sing). They live out in the wild and kill and eat other animals. The characters are beasts, not mutants.

But in Robin Hood, the animals wear clothes, eat food at a table, and walk upright, to name a few distinguished human traits. While this in no way discredits the greatness of the film, there’s not an animated Disney movie I can think of before or after its release that follows this formula.

In today’s news, Sarah would rather be Rafiki the baboon than be Elton John. How did we get onto this Lion King style debate? I have absolutely no idea. And apparently she got slapped by a lion this summer. Well, she’s never dull anyway, and she called her own dog a slut. Right now she’s repeatedly showing me pictures of her bum crack. I know, I was disturbed too. We all have a plan to go on the big wheel in the center of Edinburgh, which may result in me having a tiny but obviously fatal heart attack. Bitch just called me a warthog! I hate her sometimes. Right now we are sitting with Ben, who looks like a young Tom Hanks. He even has the crazy beard that Tom Hanks had in Castaway! I hated that movie. Ok, we get it, you got shipwrecked and now you’re a freak who talks to coconuts. I really want to go to South Africa now! Damn Sarah and her life adventures. I got up at 8 o clock this morning and now I am reaaaally pissy. Oh, and happy birthday Mum!

Ciao!

One of my pleasures in my life is pointing out the universally accepted concepts that surprisingly n

One of my pleasures in my life is pointing out the universally accepted concepts that surprisingly no one ever questions. The majority of children’s animated TV shows and movies involve talking animals. We have simply accepted this as “make believe”. Okay. But what I can’t accept is that fact there is no explanation as to how the animals gained the ability to talk.

Was it a magic spell? Extreme intelligence? Possession? And did the same thing that made the cast of the Lion King able to speak also enable the cast of Looney Tunes to speak as well? And sometimes animals interact through speech with humans like it’s no big deal. If I found a talking animal I would definitely exploit it for all it’s worth.

There has to be a physical explanation for this. But I just can’t see it. Even if an animal had the intelligence to speak, most animals don’t have the physical features necessary to do so. For example, how could a cat say the word “brother” since cats don’t really have lips? It would sound like “rother”.

Also, the other hole I have found in this concept of talking animals is that their voices would sound nothing like they do on Disney movies. By doing a quick search on “talking cat” on YouTube, I can watch a cat saying “I love you” but it sounds more like “rye row yoo-oo-ow”. And its voice has the same sound and tone as when a cat meows. It doesn’t sound like a man or woman’s voice.

Life can be disappointing sometimes.

X-Factors theme this week was Film week. This weeks theme was inspired by the contestants going to a film premiere of a Christmas Disney Film during the week. iWas expecting someone to sing something from Dreamgirls – but that never happened.

To start yesterdays show was Stacey Solomon, singing “Son Of a Preacher Man”. Stacey was told to sex it up, but Stacey was saying she doesn’t know how to “sex it up” Which iFelt was a very contradicting statement! Because – Stacey has a son! To have a son… U must have “Sexed it up” sometime during ur life! Stacey’s performance was – Okay. It wasn’t her best, but she hasn’t done a performance that iCan say was bad. So She gets a past from the negative comments this week. The only thing iCan say about Stacey’s performance is that her hair looked like she was going to the corner shop! If X-Factor’s Hairstylist thinks that Stacey’s hair was “Sexy” they need to go back to school!

Next to perform was Olly. Olly is one of my favorite Contestants left in the competition. But unfortunately this song was very predictable. To be honest iThought Olly would have sung this during big band week, He sang “Twist and Shout by The Isle Brothers”. The dancing was very Olly, and his becoming very predictable! NO – Olly this must change if u want to carry on being my Favorite. iFeel that Olly is holding back! iWant to hear some notes of his belting out! However it was a good performance! As always, Olly’s personality always comes out in his performances but iDo want to see some Soul, or some heart-felt songs for Olly to sing. He is getting TO Predictable!

Lloyd was after Olly. Last week Lloyd was in the Bottom Two, so he had to come back and fight this week. Lloyd sang “Stand By me – Ben E. King” during this performance Lloyd let out the biggest note he has ever done WITHIN HIS LIFE! – Yes – HIS LIFE! This song was the best song choice Cheryl has chosen for Lloyd! iStill don’t think he can win the competition but this week’s performance was sort of the best performance he has done so far!

Jamie came and performed “Crying – Roy Orbinson”. I don’t think Jamie’s performance was the best… but it wasn’t the worst. Simon is defiantly struggling choosing songs for Jamie, as he had to change the original song this week. Jamie does have a Rock voice, and there is Rock Soundtracks, but Jamie will get to predictable! But iCan’t help but say that Jamie doesn’t suit no over genre but Rock! iCan’t help but point out that Jamie had the same clothes he had during the “Diva Week”. Hmmm – I’m not just not to sure on Jamie’s performance, and iDid think he was vulnerable this week!

Lucie Jones performed a song from “Camp Rock” she performed “This Is Me – Demi Lovato”. It was so predictable to me that Lucie was going to perform a Disney soundtrack song! She looks like the type of Teenager to sit there and love The Jonas Brothers, and buy the CD of the soundtrack! Lucie’s performance was Okay, I felt that she felt comfortable! It looked like she felt so comfortable that it looked like she was performing in her room. But it was an alright performance! I thought she would be safe after this performance.

Drama King was next! And he has a new look! Danyl has cut his hair off! It’s about time – because he was looking like Aston from JLS for a HOT minute! The new look on Danyl suits him! I’m not going to lie, he does look like a star now! Danyl sang “Purple Rain” In my eyes no-one can sing Purple Rain like how Ruth Lorenzo did last year! But Danyl can pass! It was Okay. He looks like his yawning when he hits them big high notes. iThink u cannot change Danyl’s cocky/arrogant/over-confident attitude! If his been like that for Years its gonna take him a WHILE to change!

Satan and his Demon’s was next aka John & Edward. They performed Ghostbusters, and tried to hi-Jack Michael Jackson’s Thriller in the performance as well. Let me just post the video because i’m getting fed up of expressing my opinions on these Demon’s every Flipping WEEK!

Joe McElderly was last but not least! And his Performance was the BEST in my eyes! It was the best performance of the night! iWas really touched by this song! He sang “Circle Of Life – Elton John”. I know it’s from the Lion King but this song was so TOUCHING! and his performance was very Heart-felt! Joe has just made it into my favorites to win X-Factor! I never really liked him before, but this week iLiked him! He seems so humble as well! Well done Joe! This week u stepped up on http://ItzMally.wordpress.com

So That was this weeks performances. Who do u think was the best?

Sunday’s Show review coming soon!

And I could’ve done 100. Man, I wanted to do 100. I left a lot of good movies off this list.

And I could’ve done 100. Man, I wanted to do 100. I left a lot of good movies off this list. But 50 is going to have to do. The only rule is that franchises are lumped together. No need to differentiate between originals and sequels and trilogies. This is a team sport.

50) LION KING

Many have challenge, but this Lion is still the King of all Disney movies.

49) WHITE MEN CAN’T JUMP

As a park protégé basketball player myself I loved the mentality of this movie.

48) I, ROBOT

Neo-phobic message aside, I love Will Smith’s me-against-the-world attitude and “somehow I told you so just doesn’t say it,” is something we all want to say at some point.

47) SUPERMAN II

A note to all future Superman projects: give the guy an enemy who can actually kick his ass!

46) THE WOOD

I can totally relate to having great friends you are scared to leave behind.

45) RUSH HOUR

I’m a sucker for the action comedy, so the King of stunts, Jackie Chan and “Smokey” combo does it for me.

44) TANGO & CASH

Again, this is action/comedy, but opposite to Rush Hour with big brutal Sly and quirky Kurt. Lot of guns, lots of actions, lots of punchlines, little subtext. The way an action movie should be.

43) BLOODSPORT

One man on a mission to uphold the honor of his mentor…it’s a lost trait these days.

42) PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN

In the 80’s this movie would have sucked, but special effects and good-natured characters make it the best pirate movie ever.

41) HIGHLANDER: ENDGAME

Samurai swords and a touching story about friendship and immortality, what’s not to love?

40) ROLE MODELS

Paul Rudd is way funnier as a jerk than as a lovable loser. Sean William Scott is way funnier as a Stifler clone. Jane Lynch and Bobb’e J. Thompson should definitely star in the sequel.

39) X2

The best of the X-Men movies. When Wolverine goes berserk inside the X-Mansion? Bad ass.

38) THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK

The Riddick character is one of my sci-fi favorites. Totally badass but a little too soft in this movie. It was a fun ride non-the-less.

37) ABOVE THE RIM

A fun clash between organized ball and street hoops. Probably my favorite basketball movie ever.

36) UNDER SIEGE

Most people call it Die Hard on a boat and that’s fine with me. One against one hundred…you’d take the one if his name was Steven Segal (before he got fat).

35) COLLATERAL

I love Tom Cruise as the bad guy and Jamie Foxx as the reluctant Hero. This movie is deeper than people believe. It slipped this low only because of the crappy ending.

34) AMERICAN GANGSTER

All I have to say is it’s about time they did a classy black version of the Godfather.

33) TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES I/II/TMNT

I loved this movie so much I put peanut butter on my pizza for a year. The third movie drags this franchise down.

32) REDBELT

Thee most realistic martial arts movie I have ever seen and a great story to boot.

31) ANY GIVEN SUNDAY

If you ever wondered what goes on in the front offices of the NFL, this movie is exactly what you’d think happens…real or not.

30) MONEY TRAIN

Wesley kicks ass, J-Lo was still hot and Woody is still funny.

29) K9

I love dogs. A dog as a cop partnered with James Belushi? Come on.

28) BE COOL

The Rock and Vince Vaughn by far are the funniest, most unlikely duo I have ever seen. I cried during the chicken bone scene.

27) ASSASSINS

Mano y Mano, battle of wills and guns to see who will be #1. Gotta love it.

26) THE LAST SAMURAI

Aside from the part that again a white man must save a dying culture from themselves (see Dances With Wolves, Last of the Mohicans, etc…) this is an amazing story and in-depth look at samurai culture.

25) MONSTER SQUAD

After seeing this movie I literally gathered my friends, made stakes and went out hunting vampires.

24) HANCOCK

The first major black superhero not a vampire, or former lame ass criminal and it’s freakin’ Will Smith! How cool is that?

23) DIE HARD/DIE HARD WITH A VENGEANCE/LIVE FREE DIE HARD

The original one man versus an army movie so many other have tried to copy.

22) DRUMLINE

I spent a year at an HBC so this movie hit home. I also love that it’s an intelligent, true to life tale of young black life without all the vulgarity.

21) HARD TO KILL

Steven Segal as the man who won’t die kicking ass and taking names using akido make me a happy guy.

20) MAVERICK

This is my favorite cat and mouse tale. I didn’t understand the poker, but I didn’t need to.

19) LABYRINTH

The music alone is enough to love this movie…seriously. Wishing a sibling away is another.

18) CONSTANTINE

When you stir comic book fantasy, God and good storytelling into a pot, Constantine is the only movie that comes out.

17) COMING TO AMERICA

Thee most classic comedy ever. And if you don’t believe then, “yes, yes, f— you too!”

16) THE RUNDOWN

The fact that Arnold literally passes the action hero torch to Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson in this movie was awesome.

15) THE PRINCESS BRIDE

The ultimate date movie, girls go for the love, guys go for the sword fighting. Why aren’t there more movies like that today?

14) UNDERWORLD/ UNDERWORLD EVOLUTION

I was never a fan of Shakespeare, but you put vampires up against werewolves and I’ll watch it.

13) STAR WARS EPISODE 2-6

Phantom Menace was crap full of characters no one cared about, but once Anakin grabbed a light saber I was hooked.

12) SPIDERMAN 2

Clearly the best of the bunch… and by bunch I mean two. Three never happened as far as I’m concerned. The brutal fight scenes on the roof of the train was exactly what I dreamed a Spiderman movie would feature.

11) JUICE

The ultimate urban tale of power and corruption, you can not live in the inner city and not like this movie.

10) THE LAST DRAGON

First the Wiz, boofed (a black spoof) the Wizard of Oz and then The Last Dragon boofed…Bruce Lee. A real f—in’ person! You wouldn’t think that Bruce Lee(roy) could survive in the hood, but this movie proves otherwise. And isn’t Sho’nuff just the baddest mo’ fo’ around?

Best Moment: The glow, duh.

9) BEVERLY HILLS COP I/II/III

I loved them all. You put a black cop from Detroit in Beverly Hills? Love it! And after working in Beverly Hills for two years this movie is all the more funny. The culture shock was well-defined and the hijinx remind you of a stand up act with a little bit of danger thrown in. This is the best Odd Couple of my generation.

Best Moment: When Axel makes up a perfectly good lie to free his partners from punishment and they go and tell the truth anyway.

 BIKER BOYZ

A black motorcycle gang. Love it again! The bike tricks were sick, the races were adrenaline pumping and the cast was good. Any kid who’s ever felt his own potential had to identify with Luke’s character. The father-son dynamic also touched me. Then it was as a son looking to be better than his father, and now as a father I’m sure I’d sacrifice for my own son too.

Best Moment: the OG way the Black Knights roll in at the beginning.

7) BLADE

Keep in mind Blade was the first Marvel hero to make it to the big screen since the 70’s. This movie lived up to every expectation I had for a Blade movie. The fusion of martial arts and vampires was slick enough to be effective. Blade was a trained hunter and Wesley Snipes was perfect casting. And since it was Marvel he also felt more like a superhero than some silly slayer. The second one was even better.

Best Moment: every scene where he puts on his shades. I know it’s cheesy, but it just so damn dope.

6) QUEEN OF THE DAMNED

By far thee best vampire movie ever made. I absolutely hate seeing vampires staked and beat up by average Joes with no skills. These vampires are powerful, sensual without being slutty and Aalyiah was great. I miss her. The mythology was right on point with what I envisioned and the action was fierce with an edge of scary. I still don’t get why vampires are always shirtless, but it seemed to fit this movie.

Best Moment: The stage scene where Towsend’s sings to the vampires before he kills them. It’s way more testosteroney then it sounds.

5) DESPARADO

The Wild West style shootouts are unbelievably good and delightfully exaggerated. I bet no one ever looked at a guitar case the same way after seeing this movie. Antonio as a smooth talking repentant killer entertains even better with Salma as the romantic lead.

Best Moment: When Bucho discovers that his men killed the man sent to help them.

4) INDEPENDENCE DAY

Thee most patriotic heartwarming movie I’ve ever seen. The way the world is forced to come together to save itself was great. The aliens were just right and the action was out of this world (no pun intended…well…a little). Considering this is the movie that launched Will Smith July 4th mania, it obviously had a huge impact on society.

Best Moment: Clearly it’s the speech by Bill Pullman at the end. Close second is when the crazy farmer sacrifices himself while his son watches proudly. I still tear up at those moments.

3) KICKBOXER

It’s such a simple story, an amateur fighter is driven to be the best so he can avenge his fallen brother. Van Damme is at his best when he’s the determined underdog. You had to wonder if he would succeed or not, and it was total triumph when he did. This is a pure martial arts movie without any gimmicks to fall back on and it never even stumbles.

Best Moment: Split kick. If it’s a Van Damme movie, it has the split kick in it.

2) BATMAN BEGINS/THE DARK KNIGHT

These movies are so good they make Keaton’s Batman look stupid. I was never overly thrilled about them anyway. This is what Batman should have been. Not a super man, but a man doing super things…and with a meaning behind it. I really felt like if I, or anyone had the money and dedication we could do everything he was doing. There was no bat-shark-repellent or fantasy crap involved. They took Batman 100% serious and so did we, or risk getting our faces bashed in.

Best Moment: The Jokers entrance in the Dark Knight when he puts a pencil through a guys eye.

1) BAD BOYS I/II

If you grew up on Fresh Prince and Martin this was the best thing since peanut butter teamed with Jelly. Some people just make a good mix and I would put money on it that Martin and Will improvised a lot of that because it shows. This movie has it all, girls, guns and gaffes. We’ve seen buddy cops films before, but there has never been two cops this damn rugged, smooth and hilarious all at the same time. You wanted to be them, which is unlike most dopey, silly buddy cop films. It also helps that my friends quoted this movie more than a Chappelle Show episode so it’s ingrained in my brain. And the sequel was well worth the wait.

Best Moment: When Martin interrogates his daughter’s date with the help of Will.

Honorable Mentions from my 2008 list (That were pushed out of the top 50 this year):

WHO AM I

This underrated Jackie Chan movie made the cut purely for the climatic 2-on-1 fight scene at the end. Best. Fight. Ever.

THE GOONIES

If you call yourself an 80’s baby, you absolutely have to love this movie.

THE MATRIX

Bullet time animation may be the butt of the joke now, but it sure was sickening in this movie.

Being a bit of a drama queen myself, I was so very pleased to have been able to see The Lion King musical at the Lyceum Theatre in London once again on Friday. All I can say is that it is stunning, uplifting and incredible.

To see how Disney have created such amazing costumes for an entire cast of non human characters is fascinating. They are as animated as we see them in the film, and the three-dimensional stage continues to thrill and surprise throughout the entire show. It still baffles me every time how a stage can form into so many complicated shapes. I find myself being hypnotised into a magical trance throughout. Right from the very beginning the characters entertain the audience to the maximum.

Rafiki who is played by Lindiwe Mkhizereally Brown is a character in a million. Her powerful voice and eccentric baboon like movements have such an affect that you really cannot help but giggle at her. What a superb actress. The whole of the first sequence ensured that the magic starts right from the first minute. The animals journey to Pride Rock takes place down the audience aisles. Considering that some of these animals were huge elephant characters it really must have been quite a task to produce this scene. It was great, the audience felt that they were right there with the animals.

Taking a look at the movie’s plot, the story line in the show is very similar, and even if you have not seen the film it is still fairly simple to follow. There are some extra additions, such as that of a song that Scar sung where although at that point he is the king, none of his pride likes him like they did Muffassa. Other new songs that are seen include “The Morning Report”, and “Chow Down”. I have to say that I think they make a perfect addition to the show. “Chow Down” is almost heavy metal based and I feel that it fitted with the characters of the Hyenas exceptionally well.

Music that is truly beautiful

Two of the most beautiful songs in the show are that of “He Lives In You” which is first sung by Mufassa and then by Rafiki as a reprise; and also “Endless Night” which is sung by Simba. They are so good that I found myself coming home and listening to them. The two songs are in my opinion quite emotional, yet uplifting at the same time, and with the sets that they are placed within it makes you transfixed on the character/characters that are singing the songs. All of the characters had such powerful voices, and all were extremely talented individuals.

The opening of the second half brought a real cultured African feel to the musical, with the song ‘One by One” used. The ensemble were dressed in ethnic outfits, and the theatre became alive with ‘bird kites’ being held by cast members throughout the entire theatre. The colours used were so exuberant, it made a lively and exciting start to the second half, just as we saw with the opening of the show.

Can You Feel the Love Tonight we also see in the second half. This is another of my favourite songs and I really do love this scene. We see a very delicate ballet/modern style dance half way through, it really fitted in nicely with the mood of the song. We also saw dance partners flying in from the ceiling and doing air dance moves, again all fitting in very nicely with the scene. The combination of this with Nala and Simba dancing around eachother in a loving and affectionate way emits a real sense of love and passion.

A show that is a must see even for non musical lovers

I can not stress to you enough just how truly awesome The Lion King musical is. The creativity is so diverse. We see people dressed as animals of all kinds, grass, huge flowers – the list continues. They had even managed to get the ‘big cat’ movement right with the stalking stride of the Cheetah I feel pretty much exact. We see humour being contrasted with sadness and true life issues being represented; all adding to a powerful and dramatic stage affect.

Every little detail that occurs within the show makes it stand out just a little more from many others that I have seen. It is certainly worth watching if you have not done so already. Even if you are not a particular musical lover I feel that this one may prove your musical opinions wrong.

Acts 12:5, 7a, 10b So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him

Acts 12:5, 7a, 10b
So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him…. Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell…. When they [Peter & the angel] had walked the length of one street, suddenly the angel left him.

How did the believers pray for Peter? Did they pray for his miraculous release by an angel? I don’t think so. They knew that miracles could happen, they had seen a boodle of them. But I’m guessing they prayed for some miracle at the public trial. They imagined him getting an opportunity to speak and people would be filled with the Holy Spirit etc. And how was Peter, himself, praying? Was he asking for wisdom or just courage in the face of death? Either way, the angel bit was a total surprise.

Since God doesn’t make mistakes, apparently, the best thing for Peter and the followers who were praying for him was to cut Peter loose. Peter was officially a fugitive from that point forward. And Luke does not speak of Peter again in Acts until several chapters later. Peter is no longer in public ministry. His work is behind the scenes.

Over the years, there has been a lot of teaching about prayer and how it should be as specific as possible. I’m starting to really doubt the wisdom of this type of prayer. Who am I to know what is the best solution to a difficult situation? God is so creative. If I can trust God with the resolution, chances are it will be a better end that I could ever imagine.

The angel that helped Peter only stuck around as long as angel-help was needed. The angel unshackled Peter, led him out of the prison, past several guards, though a locked gate, then out and down a street. When the angel disappeared Peter was on his own again to make the next decision. Angels do the heavy lifting.

I believe persistence in prayer may not be to call down my ideas of a solution, but to faithfully place that loved one or that difficulty in the light of God’s presence. Then, angels can come or minds can be changed or hearts can be broken…. whatever is best for that moment in time.

One of my favorite scenes in the Lion King (I know, I know, it’s a kid’s movie) is when the Mufasa and Rafiki dedicate Simba and hold him up in the air. This feeling of dedication and letting go is how I imagine prayer to be…. for my current issues, my family, my friends, and all those I have promised to pray for… may we all experience the wonder of angels as God moves our mountains.

LION KING

Many have challenge, but this Lion is still the King of all Disney movies.

49. WHITE MEN CAN’T JUMP

As a park protégé basketball player myself I loved the mentality of this movie.

48. I, ROBOT

Neo-phobic message aside, I love Will Smith’s me-against-the-world attitude and “somehow I told you so just doesn’t say it,” is something we all want to say at some point.

47. SUPERMAN II

A note to all future Superman projects: give the guy an enemy who can actually kick his ass!

46. THE WOOD

I can totally relate to having great friends you are scared to leave behind.

45. RUSH HOUR

I’m a sucker for the action comedy, so the King of stunts, Jackie Chan and “Smokey” combo does it for me.

44. TANGO & CASH

Again, this is action/comedy, but opposite to Rush Hour with big brutal Sly and quirky Kurt. Lot of guns, lots of actions, lots of punchlines, little subtext. The way an action move should be.

43. BLOODSPORT

One man on a mission to uphold the honor of his mentor…it’s a lost trait these days.

42. PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN

In the 80’s this movie would have sucked, but special effects and good natured characters make it the best pirate movie ever.

41. HIGHLANDER: ENDGAME

Samurai swords and a touching story about friendship and immortality, what’s not to love?

40. ROLE MODELS

Paul Rudd is way funnier as a jerk than a lovable loser. Sean William Scott is way funnier as a Stifler clone. Jane Lynch and Bobb’e J. Thompson should definitely star in the sequel.

39. X2

The best of the X-Men movies. When Wolverine goes berserk inside the X-Mansion? Bad ass.

38. THE CRONICLES OF RIDDICK

The Riddick character is one of my favorite in Sci-Fi. Totally badass but a little too soft in this movie. It was a fun ride non the less.

37. ABOVE THE RIM

A fun clash between organized ball and street hoops. Probably my favorite basketball movie ever.

36. UNDER SIEGE

Most people call it Die Hard on a boat and that’s fine with me. One against one hundred…you’d take the one if his name was Steven Segal (before he got fat).

35. COLLATERAL

I love Tom Cruise as the bad guy and Jamie Foxx as the reluctant Hero. This movie is deeper than people believe. It slipped this low only because of the crappy ending.

34. AMERICAN GANGSTER

All I have to say is it’s about time they did a classy black version of the Godfather.

33. TEENAGE MUTAT NINJA TURTLES I/II/TMNT

I loved this movie so much I put peanut butter on my pizza for a year. The third movie drags this franchise down.

32. REDBELT

Thee most realistic martial arts movie I have ever seen and a great story to boot.

31. ANY GIVEN SUNDAY

If you ever wondered what goes on in the front offices of the NFL, this movie is exactly what you’d think happens…real or not.

30. MONEY TRAIN

Wesley kicks ass, J-Lo was still hot and Woody is still funny.

29. K9

I love dogs. A dog as a cop partnered with Jim Belushi? Come on.

28. BE COOL

The Rock and Vince Vaughn by far are the funniest, most unlikely duo I have ever seen. I cried during this movie.

27. ASSASSINS

Mano y Mano, battle of wills and guns to see who will be #1. Gotta love it.

26. THE LAST SAMURAI

Aside from the part that again a white man must save a dying culture from themselves (see Dances With Wolves, Last of the Mohicans, etc…) this is an amazing story and in depth look at samurai culture.

25. MONSTER SQUAD

After seeing this movie I literally gathered my friends, made stakes and went out hunting vampires.

24. HANCOCK

The first major black superhero not a vampire, or former lame ass criminal and it’s freakin’ Will Smith! How cool is that?

23. DIE HARD/DIE HARD WITH A VENGENC/LIVE FREE DIE HARD

The original one man versus an army movie so many other have tried to copy.

22. DRUMLINE

I spent a year at an HBC so this movie hit home. I also love that it’s an intelligent true to life tale of young black life without all the vulgarity.

21. HARD TO KILL

Steven Segal as the man that won’t die kicking ass and taking names using akido make me a happy guy.

20. MAVERICK

This is my favorite cat and mouse tale. I didn’t understand the poker, but I didn’t need to.

19. LABRYINTH

The music alone is enough to love this movie…seriously. Wishing a sibling away is another.

18. CONSTANTINE

When you stir comic book fantasy, God and good storytelling into a pot, Constantine is the only movie that comes out.

17. COMING TO AMERICA

Thee most classic comedy ever. And if you don’t believe then, “yes, yes, f— you too!”

16. THE RUNDOWN

The fact that Arnold literally passes the action hero torch to Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson in this movie was awesome.

15. THE PRINCESS BRIDE

The ultimate date movie, girls go for the love, guys go for the sword fighting. Why aren’t there more movies like that today?

14. UNDERWORLD/ UNDERWORLD EVOLUTION

I was never a fan of Shakespeare, but you put vampires up against werewolves and I’ll watch it.

13. STAR WARS EPISODE 2-6

Phantom Menace was crap full of characters no one cared about, but once Anakin grabbed a light saber I was hooked.

12. SPIDERMAN 2

Clearly the best of the bunch… and by bunch I mean two. Three never happened as far as I’m concerned. The brutal fight scenes on the roof and on the train were exactly what I dreamed about in a Spiderman movie.

11. JUICE

The ultimate urban tale of power and corruption, you can not live in the inner city and not like this movie.

10. THE LAST DRAGON

9. BEVERLY HILLS COP I/II/III

I loved them all. You put a black cop from Detroit in Beverly Hills? Love it! And after working in Beverly Hills for a year this movie is all the more funny. The culture shock was well defined and the hijinx remind you of a stand up act with a little bit of danger thrown in. This is the best Odd Couple of my generation.

Best Moment: When Axel makes up a perfectly good lie to free his partners from punishment and they go and tell the truth anyway messing up his work.

8. BIKER BOYZ

A black motorcycle gang. Love it again! The bike tricks were sick, the races were adrenaline pumping and the cast was good. Any kid who’s ever felt his own potential had to identify with Luke’s character. The father son dynamic also touched me. Then it was as a son looking to be better than his father, and now as a father I sure I’ll be sacrificing for my own son.

Best Moment: the OG way the Black Knights roll in at the beginning.

7. BLADE

6. QUEEN OF THE DAMNED

By far thee best vampire movie ever made. I absolutely hate seeing vampires staked and beat up by average Joes with no skills. These vampires are powerful, sensual without being slutty and Aalyiah was great. I miss her. The mythology was right on point with what I envisioned and the action was enough to be fierce with an edge of scary. I still don’t get why vampires are always shirtless, but it seemed to fit this movie.

Best Moment: The stage scene where Towsend’s sings to the vampires before he kills them. It way more testosteroney then it sounds.

5. DESPARADO

The Wild West style shootouts are unbelievably good and delightfully exaggerated. I bet no one ever looked at a guitar case the same after seeing this movie. Antonio as a smooth talking repentant killer entertains even better with Salma as the romantic lead.

Best Moment: When Bucho discovers that his men killed man set to help them.

4. INDEPENDENC DAY

3. KICKBOXER

2. BATMAN BEGINS/THE DARK KNIGHT

1. BAD BOYS I/II

Honorable Mentions (That were pushed out of the top 50 this year):

3. WHO AM I

This underrated Jackie Chan movie made the cut purely for the climatic 2-on-1 fight scene at the end. Best. Fight. Ever.

2. THE GOONIES

If you call yourself an 80’s baby, you absolutely have to love this movie.

1. THE MATRIX

Bullet time animation may be the butt of the joke now, but it sure was sickening in this movie.

“I’m only brave when I have to be.” Heroes can still be afraid, but do what they have to do to protect the ones they love. Why? Because heroes are everyday people. A friend who helps you get through a terrible situation. An older sibling who takes the blame for something you did. In a lot of ways, my mother is a hero to me and my brother. She took care of us practically by herself while having a full time job. She brought us to church every Sunday when we were kids. Truthfully, my mother showed a lot of courage to be able to have a full time job and take care of two children. Yes, I’m sure she misses her husband (my daddy) as much as I do, but she does not break down and give up. She keeps going and keeps the thought that her husband would want her to keep going.

Heroes are also the ones in movies. The hero that I have gotten attached to recently is the Wolverine from X-Men. Though, he can have an anger management problem, he had tried to be aware of it around Rogue. This could have a reason that he felt this bond between them, like they were kind of a family. Wolverine had a sense of responsibility to watch over her, to make sure she doesn’t get hurt. He is kind of like a father-figure to Rogue. That is the type of hero I would look up to. Someone who focuses on one goal and takes responsibility for it.

I love the Lion King, even the part where Mufasa dies. Even if it makes me teary eyed, it’s a good film. It kinda bugged me that you know, prey animals sing delightful songs with the animal who will be eating them shortly and that rather than eat Timeon and Pumba like a Lion would, Simba learns to live off bugs alone (apparently real Lions have no problem with bugs, if there is no other food AHEM a warthog and a meerkat!?) but I said HEY! It’s a kids movie, and its ALREADY uber-depressing.

But then…Mia asked me the mother of all questions… Who Is Nala’s Father!?

Well, as the mighty Sherlocke Holmes(And Spock I think) once said;

“When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth”

THEREFORE! Simba is Nala’s father via time travel paradox!

“BRYAN! You handsome rogue you!” you protest, “How could a Lion, an animal with NO opposable thumbs build a time machine??”

Don’t fret little one, clearly, CLEARLY he had Timeon build it!

In other more thrilling news, I have made a lot of progress in forging a memorable Fourth Edition Dungeons and Dragons character, behold;

Tretsyr Garamscythe – Dragonborn Warrior

Lawful Neutral

He stands 6′8″ with Rust red-brown scales, tinged with gold. Two modest horns rise from his temples and a swept back behind his head. However, the left horn its broken about 3/4th of the way from the base. This is a result of a fight he was in years ago. He makes no attempt to mask this deformation, to him each scar is a lesson that can be pointed at and immediately reminded of.

Fire Breath-weapon

Favoured Weapon: Greataxe; Family Weapon, worn and aged, but still deadly sharp.

Years ago, he was the commander of a division of Sellsword mercenaries. Division 4 of 13, they were bringing up the right side of the formation. He had joined the Sellsword Company with naive ideals that they fought for more than coin, and he wasn’t entirely wrong, his 4th Division was mostly comprised of likeminded individuals, and the CEO of the Organization was a decent and true Dwarf. However, they made the mistake of attaching themselves to the losing side of a continental war. The rabble that formed the lowest ranks of the company fought bravely in the beginning, as folk are want to do with a shiny sword in hand and boisterous fellows at his side, but as the day progressed they suffered heavy casualties and they did what all men who’s loyalty is measured in coin do…They broke. Hard. Within hours the van had been cut to ribbons, more by turn cloaks and false men who struck their banners then by the foe.

By eveningfall, the Commander of the Army had regrouped his forces in a defensible position, but he didn’t have enough men to hold it. Fortune seemed to favour them, when the Dwarf leader of the mercenaries came out of the post battle carnage to rally at his side, but alas, he brought only a scant 5 of his thirteen divisions, the rest slain or worse, fighting on the other side. Proudly Tretsyr brought almost his entire Fourth along, and they dug themselves for a siege. It was going as well as could be, with admittedly was not very well at all, but they held.

At dawn on the fifth day of the siege, a messenger came: There were no reinforcements coming. Not for another fortnight. With this grim news the Commander and the Dwarf came together to speak to the troops and mercenaries as one, but before they spoke war horns sounded and the enemy was on them in force. In droves, the men threw down their weapons and began to flee. The Dwarf shouted above the din, commanding them back to their senses and almost had them railed good and hard and back at their posts… When an arrow from his own camp caught him in the throat.

By now, even a good portion of his fourth had broken, but Tretsyr and his fellows made a stand with the commander and what few loyal soldiers remained. Tretsyr slew his traitorous companions one by one, with a heavy heart. But his loyal friends died in droves. A man from his fourth, one he though to still be loyal came up beside him, Tretsyr called to him in aid, and he came and planted a sword in his shoulder, Tretsyr disarmed him and grabbed the man, they grappled and fought as the battle swept in around them. The man had the upper hand, holding Tretsyr at bay by gripping both his horns in hand. In a move of desperation, Tretsyr jerked his head to the right, dislodging the man, but snapping his left horn in the process, he found his axe and cleaved the man from shoulder to hip in a rage, but when he looked up, the only sight that greeted him was the Commander of the Forces taking a spear in the back, plunged into him with such ferocity that it dented the front of his breastplate.

At that moment, even the noble Tretsyr, covered in as much his own blood and his friends blood as the blood of his foe, broke. He ran, he ran far from that land, from that conflict, from his shame.

“Hakuna Matata! What a wonderful phrase!”

This weekend, I went with my family and a friend to see the Lion King on Broadway. It was, of course, fantastic. I appreciated that they used the original score but added authentic African music to the performances along with traditional African dress. The character costumes were incredibly creative as well. This performance is great for kids and the kids get a little culture at the same time. Perfect.I must make a special note regarding the actress that plays Rafiki; her voice… was… stunning. It gave me goosebumps every time.

During the opening act, Circle of Life, my 9 year old daughter said, “It’s so beautiful, I kind of want to cry.” Awwww…I knew exactly what she meant with that comment. Inside I was secretly elated hoping she really will be a lover of the arts! She already loves music, plays, dancing, and drawing…and now she can appreciate the performances that same way.

I’ve always hoped my kids would share my passion for the arts.

This has been the week of the 16th birthday that will go down in the Crosby Hall of Phame. I hope

This has been the week of the 16th birthday that will go down in the Crosby Hall of Phame. I hope the boys don’t remember all that we did this week when they turn 16! It started with birthday shopping for the right outfit! Check! (as seen above….. thanks, Dad and Mom!) Then as all good homeschooling families, we tied four field trips into two days including two shows in Vegas. I’m still exhausted, but it was fabulous!

We started early Wed. morning with a tour of the Hoover Dam (just what all 16 year old girls have on their birthday lists!) It was highly entertaining due to the company we kept. (See the video on FB) The dam tour was closely followed in cultural importance by the tour of Ethel M Chocolate factory! Whoooo Hooooo! THAT was yummy. Not to mention the botanical gardens right out the door from the chocolates. See how much Larisa enjoyed it:

(Special guest appearance by Mary.)

Then the FUN began. We checked into our hotel and prepared for the evening’s festivities…. Phantom of the Opera. Back in the day, when I was 15, Larry was our music minister at our church in California. Well, today, much to Larisa’s joy and thrill, Larry is Ubaldi Piangi in Phantom. He royally hooked up Larisa with the make-up artist of the show and she got to go backstage and sit with the Phantom while he got purtied up for the performance. AMAZING!

The costumes for Phantom were totally over the top! That’s Larry in his $8K fat suit. He was hilarious. Every time he came on stage I laughed before he even sang or acted…. he’s so perfect for that part! If that wasn’t enough…. Larry found us after the show and took us up on the stage and explained all the fancy shmancy props hanging everywhere above the sides of the stage. (It probably has a theatrical name that he told us, but I was busy looking around for frayed ropes.) Amazing show!

Day #2: (Larisa’s actual 16th birthday.) Rick, the boys and I went to tour the Shelby manufacturing plant while Larisa slept in. She refused to go to a car factory on her birthday. ) Whatever, little princess! Then the boys went swimming before they dropped off Larisa and I at the Belagio to see the fabulous sights and window shop at the exorbitant shops. WOW! Larisa chose the Hard Rock Cafe for her birthday dinner and we were seated on the balcony overlooking the strip. (And can I just make a thumbs up comment for Las Vegas cleaning up their billboards and taxi signs. We haven’t been there for 6 years and it is WAY more family friendly now.)

The evening wrapped up with The Lion King show. And can I just say that their costume designers are some of the most creative people! If you can go see Lion King…. GO! And pay more to sit in the front so you can really see all the details in their amazing costumes.

The evening ended at 11:00 p.m. with McDonald’s ice cream, a birthday song and a gift unwrapping in the Albertson’s parking lot. WOW. We arrived home at 4:00 a.m. and I actually drove the last three hours! Thankfully I uncovered my Lakewood CD and sang two times all the way through it. I love that album. And why do we still call them albums?

Friday night, we had a sleep over/tie dye/birthday party for Larisa…. see why I’m exhausted? What a GREAT week. And please, no one mention all this to my boys from 2011 on.

I have this pretty cool job that gives me every other Friday off. So today is one of those Fridays.

I have this pretty cool job that gives me every other Friday off. So today is one of those Fridays. It’s nice to have a weekday off every once in a while, makes me feel kinda like a slacker. Everyone else is at work today except me. Not that I’m doing anything super exciting, I’m actually studying like I’m supposed to be. But days like today are normally good for going to the mall, or seeing a movie, or grocery shopping, things that you want to do without huge crowds.

Last night the bf and I went to see The Lion King. It was amazing. However I did find out he has never seen the movie. This is something I will be fixing soon, I know he is a bit older than me so he might not have been the correct age at the time to enjoy a Disney movie, but I’ll admit I owned it and watched it many times. I even sat around with my friends and watched the smoke scene in slow motion where it spells out Sex. But I didn’t see the movie last night, I saw the musical. It was amazing! I was blown away at how they incorporated the actors into the animal costumes, I thought it was unique and it worked well. We didn’t have the best seats though because we had discount tickets but even in the 3rd balcony nose bleed seats the view was still great and I really enjoyed the story. We had wanted to see this show when we were in Vegas several months ago but the tickets were pretty pricey. It was over $100 a person to see it in Vegas and with the discounted tickets I got for last nights show it was about $20. I’m kinda glad we waited!

My goal for today is to study for a little bit more because seriously I can’t spend my entire day studying it would just turn to mush and I won’t remember anything. I’m studying for a test for my International Health class. This is not a class I’m taking for my major which is Business Management, it’s a class for my Upper GE. So I don’t have much interest in this other than it fit my crazy schedule (I work a full day on Mondays and then go to 6 hours of class) and it should be fairly easy.

Also I’ve been hinting to the bf that I would like sushi today. There are several good places in the area, the area being downtown San Diego near the bf’s place. But there are also several with really good happy hour deals. So I’m hoping for sushi and a few drinks. *Crossing Fingers* I heart sushi!

One of the good things about having a dog is that you don’t have to worry about him becoming a grown up and finding himself irritated with my enthusiasm for the banal and the way I repeat the same questions again and again on a single walk through the neighborhood.
Top incepe cu locul 100…topul a fost impartit in 4 episoade
