Welcome to PearPC. I tried this out and got a virtual machine running some old flavour of Mac OS. Was it usable? Not on the hardware I had.

Fast forward some years and (still broke), I still wanted a Mac experience. I had heard of running OS X on non apple, Intel hardware (hackintosh). I ran through the compatibility lists and low and behold, I didn’t meed any reuirements! DOH!

A few years later and a bit more money in the bank account and I finally bought myself a MacBook Pro! Yay for myself. Once you go Mac, you don’t go back? Hardly! I do enjoy using my mac for some things, but will not easily give up my humble PC.

I’ve been reading this article recently about how to get OS X Lion / Mountain Lion running in the free Oracle VirtualBox virtualisation software. Being the geek that I am, I decided to try it out. Why? Because I CAN do it! Also, I wanted to see if it was possible to get a OS X software development environment up and running and usable.

I decided to try this out and within 30 minutes (not including time to download resources), I was up and running with a a full screen, full experience of OS X Mountain Lion on my Desktop PC. The only thing left for me to do is plug my iDevice into the USB port and see if it maps correctly into the virtual machine and I can deploy an application onto the device using X-Code. Maybe I’ll have a follow-up post about my experience if it doesn’t work, or if I end up having issues.

Now, there are some legal issues surrounding getting the required OS X Lion Image, not to mention Apple’s licencing agreement that you only run the software on Apple licenced hardware and all that. I have to note at this point, I do have a licence for OS X, so although I’m bending the rules, I’m purely doing it for educational purposes only.

I’m not encouraging anyone to pirate the software required, please, please go out and get the licence if you want to try this out. It’s only a small amount of money.

All-new features for Chinese users

Mail, Contacts, and Calendar work with QQ, 163, and 126. Baidu, the leading Chinese search provider, is a built-in option in Safari. The video-sharing websites Youku and Tudou are included in the new Share Sheets, so users in China can easily post videos to the web. They can also blog with Sina weibo, the popular microblogging service. And with improved text input, typing in Chinese is easier, faster, and more accurate.

Mac OS X Mountain Lion is available to developers now and to the public in the summer. The Messages feature is available in beta. No word on yet the specifications are at this moment. (UPDATE at 6:18PM CST: Apple reports the following are compatible with Mountain Lion with developers:)
