In ritual, if there aren’t any good releases for the day, Tak and I will post something terribly good from months past. Tonight is one of those nights. I’m bringing you a release that has had a wonderful spot in my soul and a dedicated spot on my XM. Tonight, I’m bringing you the massive release of Blame’s Stay Forever and Strikeforce vinyl. This is definitely a must-have for any drum ‘n’ bass addict, or a music lover in general.

Blame, the head premiere of 720 Records brings a ridiculous sentimental track with ‘Stay Forever’. Starting with a crescendo of violins and a bit of a drum beat, it can already be told what the mood of the song is gonna be. With a simple lyric of “Stay, Forever” it’s an absolutely fantastic track, that can make even the coldest soul melt. The opposite side of the Vinyl, “Strikeforce” is a bit of a different twist, yet in the same arena of Blames signature sound. It’s a heavier sort of tune with a nice bassline. This vinyl is truly about Stay Forever, though. Worth one million listens, in my opinion.

I’m back with another installment in the wonderful miniseries, ‘History of Hospital Mix’.
Tonight, I bring you without further adieu, Hospital Mix Six. Ladies and gentlemen, this is by far, one of the sickest mixes you’ll ever here. Mixed by Hospital’s very own Cyantific, this one, a more recent one than the others, comes at you nice and hard with some very familiar tunes.

Some of the highlights from this mix include anthems from High Contrast’s massive “Tough Guys Don’t Dance” LP, as well as a taste of Logistics and Danny Byrd. Tonight I’m going to begin a short series of uploads, dedicated to the infamous Hospital Records KILLER compilation albums known tentatively as ‘Hospital Mixes’. These albums have always been a beacon of clarity in the ever-changing DnB world, especially for me. Regardless of how I feel, or what sort of ish may be brewing in my life, I know I can always turn to Hospital Records to provide the sickest comp albums to ever hit the streets. Despite the grime and dirt folks, you can never turn the volume down with something as massive as liquid. <3

BUT!  Who are these cats at Hospital Records you say? GLAD YOU ASKED!

” Hospital Records is a drum and bass record label based in London, England, specializing in the softer and funkier side of the music known as liquid funk. It was founded in 1996 by Tony Colman and Chris Goss and has become one of the biggest labels within the drum and bass scene.”

Kali ini aku akan menulis tentang dua pemain bass favoritku, dua-duannya pernah jadi pemain bass band funk terkenal Jamiroquai. Yupp! tentunya karena aku seorang penggemar berat Jamiroquai, sayangnya ketika mereka tour di jakarta beberapa bulan lalu aku tidak bisa menikmati pertunjukan salah satu dari mereka , keduanya secara fisik sama-sama mempunyai tampang dan style keren abis!!!. So… di bawah ini adalah sedikit bio tentang mereka yang aku ketahui.

Stuart zender

Jude Patrick Stuart Zender, lahir pada tanggal 18 Maret 1974 di Sheffield, South Yorkshire, Inggris, dibesarkan di Philadelphia, USA. Dia dikenal sebagai pendiri, pemain bass, penulis lagu dan produser musik dari band funk terkenal Jamiroquai dalam kurun waktu 1992 s/d 1998, dia sangat berperan dalam produksi album pertama mereka, Emergency on Planet Earth (1993), The Return of the Space Cowboy (1994), dan Travelling Without Moving (1996). Menurut Guinness World Records, Travelling Without Moving adalah album funk terlaris sepanjang masa dan saat ini telah terjual sekitar 11,5 juta copy di seluruh dunia. Sejak 2006 hingga sekarang dia bekerjasama dengan DJ Mark Ronson.

Nick Fyffe

Nick Fyffe lahir 14 Oktober 1972, Reading, Inggris. Dikenal sebagai pemain bass Jamiroquai dalam kurun waktu 1999 s/d 2003 menggantikan Stuart Zender, bersama Jamiroquai merilis album Synkronized (1999) dan A Funk Odyssey (2001). Dia berpisah dari Jamiroquai tahun 2003,  setelah itu dia mengajar di berbagai perguruan tinggi, dan pernah muncul dengan U.K Dance Outfit The Shapeshifters. Pada tahun 2006, 2007 dan 2008 dia ambil bagian dalam “The Sunflower Jam”, sebuah pertunjukan amal musik tahunan. Sejak pertunjukan pertama pada tahun 2006, Nick telah bermain bersama Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin), Deep Purple, Status Quo, Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden).

As Alix Perez prepared to release his massive album on Shogun Audio, he put together this mix of rollers and liquid funk tunes to distribute at the album release party at Fabric.  The mix features tunes from heavy weights like D Bridge, Commix, Phace, and Future Forces.  Alix Perez has been consistently dropping solid release for the past few years, and I’m sure his new album will live up to all of the hype.

Kali ini Aku akan bercerita tentang salah satu musisi favoriteku, dia adalah Lincoln Barrett also known as High Contrast (HC),  dia musisi yang berasal dari UK lahir pada 18 September 1979, dia mengusung sejenis drum & bass music, banyak pengamat musik yang lebih spesifik menggolongkan musiknya sebagai liquid funk.

Warna musik dia sangat dipengaruhi oleh elemen dan motif yang sering ditemukan dalam house music yang seperti biasanya disuplai oleh intsumen musik turntable, ya jelas sekali karena memang dia seorang DJ.

Album yang telah diluncurkan antara lain True Colours (2002), High Society (2004), Tough Guys Don’t Dance (2007), Confidential (2009), ayo hunting… cuman agak sedikit susah mencarinya di toko-toko kaset reguler, aku sendiri beli album-albumnya dari amazone.com.

Aku sangat menyukai musisi ini karena lagu-lagunya bernuansa ceria, seksi, dan energik, cocok banget untuk menemani waktu-waktu santai kita, bahkan ketika sedang belajarpun aku dengerin lagu-lagunya…  pokoknya keren deh terlebih karena aku keranjingan banget funk music akhir-akhir ini, two thumbs up! deh HC…

Recently, one of my favorite contemporary stateside producers dropped his first podcast.  I assume this is in preparation of his first full length release coming in early 2010 on Innerground.  With monster liquid-funk tunes, this mix is great for nearly every occasion.  Also make sure to pay special attention to the unreleased tune by Dave Owen and Glen E Ston.  Gotta rep for the Nap!

Perpetual Present es uno de los artistas principales del sello y vuelve con dos pistas bastante curiosas.

1. Perpetual Present – Liquid Funk (Original Mix)

El primer corte de este lanzamiento podriamos catalogarlo entre el Nu Skool Breaks y el Tech Breaks, con una buena batería Breaks, la primera parte tiene una subida bastante agradable con una linea de bajo acida y unas vocales jugadas con un buen vocoder que le da a la pista un toque oscuro pero a la vez elegante. Para la segunda parte tiene una linea de bajo más arpegiada y buenos efectos jugando con ecos en algunos efectos y la vocal. Una buena producción sin lugar a dudas.

2. Perpetual Present – Meow (Original Mix)

Para mi esta producción es la mejor del lanzamiento. Perpetual nos presenta una pista Tech Breaks muy interesante y bien elaborada de principio a fin, una batería muy buena, un bajo con el que juega a lo largo de toda la producción y unos sintes muy siniestros y llamativos, tiene un toque muy elegante y para un momento de tranquilidad en un set esta perfecta. Una gran pista.

Posting that UFO! mix reminded me that I haven’t posted any jungle here in a minute, so I went rummaging around the net and found this lovely serving from liquid-funk legend Big Bud.  This piece was mixed in preparation of his new album Connections coming out later this month, and from the racklist, this appears to be a mixed version of the album.  Something just feels right about soul music at 170+ BPMs.

Liquid Funk jest podgatunkiem DnB łączącym w sobie House i Junge, nurt zbliżony do inteligent DnB. Ścieżka basowa w tym gatunku nie jest tak dominująca jak w innych. Występuje wiele syntetycznych wstawek instrumentalnych oraz liczne wokale. Liquid funk jest bardziej nastrojowym spokojnym nurtem drum and bass.

Being the generous fellow that he is, Atlantic Connection decided to give away a chill little 4 track EP that fits in somewhere between nujazz, liquid funk, and downtempo … seriously, I am not really sure how to classify it.  If you dig his production and the rest of the WestBay sound, then you are definitely going to love this.
