You may be ready for RIDGIDConnect, but not ready to upgrade all of your hardware.  Dont worry!  I am going to share a few ideas on how to get started.  I am going to assume you have a DVD or VHS system already or you wouldn’t be reading this.

Lets start with DVD.  The RIDGIDConnect Client that comes free with RIDGIDConnect has a piece of software included that can convert the DVD to a format we can use on the site.  With this option, you will take the DVD from your recorder and put it in the PC.  When you open the client it will ask if you would like to grab the files from the DVD. You can choose to leave a copy of them on your PC, or just copy them up to the site. NOTE: If you are using one of the older RIDGID DVD Monitors (cat#23668) , you will need to record your DVDs in one chapter only to use this software.  Most ripping software will not recognize all of the chapters from these units.

Ok, if you have a VHS player, or older DVDs that are not able to be ripped for some reason, there are still ways to get files to connect!  The easiest way is to connect your playback unit to a DVR (digital video recorder).  There are some consumer grade DVR options out there from companies like Archos that won’t stand up in the field, but might work for you in the office.  However, RIDGID made this easy to do in all environments.  You can add the SeeSnake® Digital Adaptor to any system with a video out, and get started in seconds.  Simply connect the microEXPLORER™ digital inspection camera to your system with the adapter; hit record on your microEXPLORER and then hit play on your VHS or DVD.  That’s it.  Then the files can be copied to your PC just like from any other digital camera.

With both of these solutions, you don’t need to upgrade all of the devices you have in the field today.  You can keep the setup in the shop or office for your team to share.

There is no doubt that these processes will add some time to the job over a completely digital solution, but you may find it saving you time in making copies or shipping DVDs around.  Above all, you will be able to impress your customers with the level of service and communications you can now provide with RIDGIDConnect.

After weeks of frustration and failure, I finally got my Xbox 360 taken apart and successfully flashed the new firmware to the Lite-On drive. I had to go out and by “CK3″ (connectivity kit 3) with additional add-on probe to get the job done.

In the end, if you just follow the instructions by this kid here, it’ll show you how to use a program called Jungle Flasher to update the firmware. To be honest, the hardest part was getting a computer with both a Serial Port and SATA connections. My home-built rig had plenty of SATA connections, but hasn’t had a Serial Port on the last two motherboards I purchased. I actually had to go out and buy a Serial  - USB adapter (29.99), which luckily worked perfectly (even in 64 bit Windows 7).

Gonzalo Tirado llama la atención de esta nueva grabadora, que posee dos botones en la parte superior de la unidad, uno que dice “Dub” y otro que dice “File”, presionando el botón “File” se abrirá una sencilla aplicación gráfica que te permitirá grabar directamente desde el PC, y presionando el botón “Dub” automáticamente podrás duplicar CDs o DVDs, haciendo el proceso mucho más rápido, simplemente inserta el disco origen, luego el disco destino y ya tendrás tu copia lista.

Este modelo saldrá al mercado por tan sólo $80 dólares.

Hace poco hablamos de Lite-On iHOS 104, un lector de Blu-Ray interno firmado por la compañía taiwanesa Lite-On. Ahora es el turno de hablar de una familia de dispositivos externos muy útil para portátiles o ultraportátiles que carezcan de DVD-ROM. La nueva gama de unidades ópticas reciben el nombre de eTDU108 y se conecta a través de puerto USB. Toman la energía necesaria para su funcionamiento del propio ordenador. Los discos se cargan desde una bandeja en la parte superior.

Los usuarios que no pueden instalar software en su equipo encontrarán en el producto de Lite-On una solución tipo parche, pero efectiva. eTDU108 lee discos DVD Rom a un máximo de 8x, discos de doble capa y regrabables a 6x y CDs a 24x. Una velocidad muy modesta, pero normal al tratarse de un aparato externo. Debe tenerse en cuenta también que la conexión vía USB no garantiza la continuidad en la transferencia de datos. Así que, en ese sentido, es posible que en algún momento la reproducción, o peor aún, la grabación, se vea interrumpida.

Por otra parte, las bazas de eTD108 no se basan en la amplitud y potencia de sus prestaciones, sino más bien en su reducido tamaño y en su coste económico. La unidad no llega los 300 gramos y se comercializará a partir de julio por 40 euros. Al principio se encontrará disponible en blanco y negro, aunque es posible que con posterioridad aparezcan modelos de otros colores.

Lite-On IHAS624 LabelTag

La marca Lite-On presenta la grabadora IHAS624 con tecnología LabelTag. Gracias a este sistema el propio aparato grabador puede colocar una etiqueta en el disco que estamos grabando, concretamente por el lado donde se efectúa la grabación. El etiquetado puede consistir en un determinado texto o incluso una pequeña imagen.

Esto desde luego es algo muy cómodo, ya no tendremos que emplear los típicos rotuladores permanentes ni preocuparnos por si el disco tiene una superficie adecuada para escribir o no, y eso sin contar con que tenemos que hacer una escritura manual. Una gran ventaja del sistema LabelTag es que podemos utilizar cualquier disco, todos valen y gracias a ello tendremos etiquetas con letra de imprenta.

En cuanto a la grabadora IHAS624 se trata de un modelo SATA e incluye también la tecnología SmartErase con la que podremos borrar de forma definitiva los datos contenidos en nuestros DVD-R. Resumiendo, la gran baza de esta grabadora es su capacidad para etiquetar y sobre todo que no necesitamos discos especiales como requieren otros sistemas como por ejemplo el LightScribe.

I recently built a new desktop PC. I was looking to build one as a budget gaming machine. I also wanted to move into more recent technologies. I was still using a five year old single core P4 with hyper-threading, AGP graphics card, DDR 400 ram, IDE hard drives, etc.

A lot of these choices were based on prices, reviews, and features. The e7200 seemed very over clock friendly. The motherboard was a hard choice. There are cheaper boards and I couldn’t decide if I wanted a 750i or P45 board. I ended up with the 750i just incase I wanted to do SLi in the near future. But honestly, still unsure if I made the right choice.

I bought an aftermarket CPU fan because I really don’t like the stock Intel coolers. I’ve had bad luck with them in the past. The particular cooler I purchased doesn’t cool much more than stock but is very quite.

Installation:

Nothing substantial to note here. Was all pretty straight forward and simple. Even the CPU fan wasn’t that hard. Although if you were to put this fan on an already built computer it would be a pain. It would require you to take out the entire motherboard.

I ended up with plenty of space for all my components. The side air duct cone fit perfectly over the CPU fan. 

The side panel on this case is more annoying to remove and put back on than more expensive cases though.

Next time I’ll cover the first boot, bios, and some of the *fun* I had installing Windows Vista 64.

Lite-On Slim-Line

Und weiter geht’s mit dem Trend zum “Kleinen” und “Bunten”. Lite-On präsentiert einen externen Slim-Line DVD-Brenner, der sich über den USB-Anschluss mit Strom versorgen kann. Sollte die Spannung nicht ausreichen, liegt dem Paket natürlich auch ein Netzteil bei. Der Brenner wird vorerst in zwei Farbkombinationen ab September/Oktober erhältlich sein.

Today, I have done an OS downgrade project (Vista to XP) on a built up compact PC for my client.

Everything went smoothly… dual boot working OK,  motherboard drivers OK, sound card OK, wifi O… ugh NOT WORKING!!!! Btw, the adapter is a Lite-On 802.11 b/g wireless network adapter

So I went to that compact PC manufacturer website looking for correct driver. Unfortunately, they don’t support Windows XP, so no XP driver to download. Lite On not listing any driver for wireless network adapter.

Google… Google… Google… ahhh…. could not imagine live without one.

After countless hour fiddling with drivers from several websites, I nearly gave up.
Then I realized how stoopid I am…

Ugh, restart the machine, go to Vista, see the device manager …. ta da!!! The wireless adapter is not using a Lite-On driver. It uses a Ralink driver. Ah… beautyfull!

The rest is eazy… go to the Ralink site and find the correct driver (do I even need to say that?).

I mentioned that I’d return with comments about the Lite-On drive I picked up recently, the LiteOn DH-20A4P-04.
I continue to be impressed, as it still rips my discs flawlessly, and burns great too. Other than that, I haven’t got much to say. It rips. It burns. It’s cheap. Can’t ask for more. Buy one.
