Not only can Little Big Planet be used to recreate childhood gaming favorites like Duck Hunt or Contra, but it’s got plenty of sack love for modern music too. Like Lady Gaga. Which is good, because it gives me an excuse to draw your attention to this cute-ified machinema port of Bad Romance.

I own a PSP. The only game I’ve played on it was God of War: Chains of Olympus. I really was excited when the console came out. I had dreams of playing HD games on the go. I was hoping for a big game library that offered RPGs and strategy games. I wanted all kinds of fun puzzle games to consume those 15 minute gaps in my life. I should have bought a DS. Every once in a great while a game outs for the PSP and I have to buy it. Little Big Planet will be one such game.

I haven’t bought it yet because all of my gaming time is being taken up by Dragon Age, and I still have a back list of games that includes Arkham Asylum, Tomb Raider Underworld, Prince of Persia, and Crysis. Once I have ploughed my way through those games I plan on getting LBP.

I am happy that the game is out now for PSP, but it would have made more sense for Sony to release it along side the console version.

Keep on gaming people!

Genre: Play/Create/Share Platformer
Platforms: Playstation Portable (PSP)
Developer: SCE Studio Cambridge/Media Molecule
Price: $39.99 (USD)

Ever since Sony first unveiled Little Big Planet at the Games Development Conference in 2007, it charmed the pants off of anyone who laid eyes on it thanks to the iconic and instantly endearing Sackboy. When the game finally hit store shelves in late 2008, it lived up to all the hype and expectations, and went on to win numerous awards and plenty of adoration from the critics and gamers alike.

Not wanting to miss out on expanding such a good thing, SCE Cambridge, in conjunction with Little Big Planet’s developer, Media Molecule, have decided to introduce the series to the PSP handheld, and the results are amazing. The game takes everything that was wonderful and charming about the original, and fits it into a bite sized package just as quirky, humorous, and creative as it’s Playstation 3 big brother.

The first thing that strikes you when you fire up Little Big Planet on the PSP is how amazing the visuals look. The game absolutely nails the LBP presentation, and the texture detail is remarkably impressive. The image is sharp and crisp, and objects like felt, metal, cardboard, brick, and wood, look precisely like they are supposed to.

The story this time around is just as simplistic as the first. Sackboy has gone on vacation to the Creator Carnival, but unfortunately, the Creator Curators, for various reasons, refuse to attend. Sackboy must get to the bottom of this, and help the Curators, so they can attend the Creator Carnival. Simple, but anyone going into LBP for the story has picked up the wrong game.

The game play has remained fundamentally unchanged: players are still charged with navigating Sackboy (and Sackgirls, of course) through various platforming stages rife with obstacles, enemies, and puzzles, all to a quirky and catchy musical tune. There are a few slight changes from the PS3 version, however. Firstly, and one I didn’t immediately notice at first, is that Sackboy no longer jumps between 3 planes on a level. It has been paired down to two, which, in my opinion, makes the platforming a lot easier and less frustrating (nothing was more frustrating in the PS3 version than wrestling with switching between the 3 planes).

The second change is smaller, and is related to Sackboy’s various emotes. Since there is no right analog stick, and the PSP is short two extra trigger buttons, SCE Cambridge have devised a rather clever way to let Sackboy be, well, Sackboy, while in the confines of the PSP’s limited button setup. The Digital Pad works the same as before; pressing a directional button will have Sackboy adopt one of four main emotional states: Happy, Sad, Angry, and Scared. These states can be made more severe by continuing to press the digital pad one or two more times. Players used to be able to use the L2 and R2 buttons to control Sackboy’s arms, but that’s not possible on the PSP, so Cambridge have mapped preset actions onto the Digital Pad when the L Button is held down. When Sackboy is Happy, and the L Button held down, and Up pushed on the Digital Pad, Sackboy will do a Back Flip. Pressing Left, Right, and Down, will result in a new animation tied to that emotion. Each of the 4 emotional states have 4 unique animations tied to them. This works really well, and many of the animations are quite humorous and adorable.

The controls are smooth and responsive, and platforming feels much better than it did on the PS3. While there are still some instances of awkward momentum when trying to make certain jumps, it’s not deal-breaking or frustrating. Overall, I found the smaller scale levels quick and satisfying, and very creative. Level design is just as top notch as the original, and filled with variety. From navigating a trippy dreamscape, to fending off an attacking dragon while fleeing in a rickshaw, each level is distinct in both theme and design. Confining the game to two planes naturally limits some more outlandish ideas, but by no means does this harm the tone and feel of LBP. It’s still one of the best platformers out there, and it’s unique physics-based game play is still blissfully intact.

One of the biggest parts of the Little Big Planet package was the ability to create your own levels, share them over the internet, and play the large number of levels created by other users. Thankfully, the PSP version does not skimp on this aspect of the game. Players can still create their own levels, upload them to the internet, and play levels created by others.

There is no connectivity with the PS3 servers, so the PSP LBP user created content is confined to the PSP and vice versa for the PS3 levels. There is no online play or co-op with other players, which is a bummer, but it doesn’t dilute the package too much. Most user created levels are designed with one player in mind, so this isn’t too terrible. The create tools are just as intuitive and user friendly as the PS3 version, so LBP creator vets shouldn’t have any problems hopping into the create mode and crafting some wonderful levels for others to play. Hopefully, the PSP LBP community will grow as large as the 1.5 million + community creating for the PS3 version.

VERDICT: BUY – This game takes everything that was wonderful and charming about the Little Big Planet universe on the PS3 and successfully shrinks it down to portable size. The visuals, controls, and level design are top notch, and the Play/Create/Share aspect of the series has not been sacrificed in any significant way, meaning that there is the potential for an endless amount of content in the future from the online community, and of course, you can always make your own. This is one of the best games on the PSP released to date, and a must own for Little Big Planet fans. Amazing.

Tudo dentro do prazo.

No PC, comecei a usar o Steam. Resultado: baixei algumas demos, pesadinhas até. Tô viciado e encantado com a série Left 4 Dead. Comecei jogando a versão demonstrativa do 2. Gostei bastante e acabei baixando a versão full do primeiro, e tô adorando. Recomendo a todos. Quem sabe, faço review também. Fora L4D, joguei Braid e gostei bastante.

To be honest, 3D platforming games tend to have a rough time on the PSP. With the lack of a second analog “nub” it eliminates any sort of camera control function leaving you at the mercy of the auto camera usually putting you in frustrating situations. With Little Big Planet PSP being a 2 ½D (i.e. no camera issues) platformer made specifically for the PSP, this game has the potential of being the best platform game on the system. Bringing all the aspects that made the PS3 Little Big Planet the award winning game that it was (including community level design), the PSP iteration looks to be in good shape to follow suit. Sean C.

FOSTER CITY, Calif., November 17, 2009 – Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. (SCEA) today announced the North American release of LittleBigPlanet™PSP exclusively for the PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) and PSP® (PlayStation®Portable)go system, bringing the critically acclaimed franchise onto the portable platform for the first time. Developed by Sony Computer Entertainment’s Cambridge Studio in close collaboration with the award-winning Media Molecule team, LittleBigPlanet PSP boasts the same prized Play, Create, Share experience, allowing players to now bring the beloved SackBoy™ with them on the go.

Built specifically for the PSP system, this portable LittleBigPlanet™ includes over 30 original developer-created levels through seven new themed locations to explore and play. Players will also find a huge host of materials, tools, and stickers to create objects or even levels that suit their style. And, pivotal to the creative LittleBigPlanet community, players will be able to publish their creations online to share with others via the PlayStation®Network. Levels and objects can then be ranked so the best of the best rise to the top.

“LittleBigPlanet continues to bring its revolutionary concept to consumers of all ages, putting the powers of creation firmly in the players’ hands,” said Scott A. Steinberg, vice president, product marketing, SCEA. “Built specifically for the portable platform, LittleBigPlanet PSP provides a fresh experience for fans of the PS3 game and allows franchise newcomers the ability to Play, Create, and Share, no matter where you are.”
LittleBigPlanet PSP is a world of endless possibilities where imagination and creativity is king. In this stylish and stitched-together 3D craft material world, there is fun to be had for all ages, tastes and player types. The LittleBigPlanet experience starts with players customizing SackBoy, the loveable main character on LittleBigPlanet. From there, players Play and learn about SackBoy’s powers to interact physically with the surrounding environment while navigating through over 30 vibrant themed environments. Players make their way across these worldly levels, avoiding obstacles, solving puzzles and collecting items that can be used to make their own creations.

To Create, players use the simple “Popit” menu system, popularized in the original PlayStation®3 (PS3™) game, to access all of SackBoy’s materials, stickers and tools to bring their imaginations to life. Here, players have the power to build and move around any object in the game’s colorful landscape. All materials and objects have realistic physical properties and will behave accordingly. With a robust tool set at their disposal, the sky is the limit. Once the object or level is completed, players can publish and Share their creative works with the community via the PlayStation Network. Of course, they can download and explore other players’ creations as well.

LittleBigPlanet’s trip to the PSP was a faithful transition. While the entire project isn’t as smooth or as fresh as Media Molecule’s PS3 offering, Cambridge made the absolute best of it on less powerful hardware. Load times are a bummer (especially hampering the create mode) and the community levels are an unknown quantity, but the nearly 40 included level are solid and, with the exception of big brother, unlike much else the portable side of 2D platforming. Omissions aside, it still looks, feels, and plays like LittleBigPlanet – and now it’s in your pocket, which is hardly something to complain about.

I’m normally one to completely and utterly ignore nerd rage. Screaming and bitching for a change in a game has always devolved into caps lock, meme throwing and inconsequential, and normally incorrect facts.

But being a nerd, I must occasionally have my nerd rage moments, and I had that moment today.

Why, why, WHY can’t companies agree on a universal date for a game, and not a stupid STREET date and RELEASE date?

If something says the game releases 11/17/09, then why in the HELL do I waltz into my local Gamestop, kindly request my God of War Collection game, and I’m promptly told “Oh, that’s been delayed, it will be out tomorrow.”

Delayed? Did they forget to put the sex mini game back in the beginning?

I cannot fathom why one date, a date that has been set in stone for quite some time, can all of a sudden be changed with no reason at all, the day before. Unlike LBP, which was legitimate, even if it was still a ridiculous reason. But even LBP was earlier than the day it was supposed to be released.

This is definitely not the first time this has happened to me either, to the point that I don’t know who to believe anymore. If a game is going to be released, release it. And if you don’t think it can be released in that certain date, don’t give us a date that is “technically right” and “technically wrong.”

I know there are things that happen during development, or during release that can hinder the process, but obviously it isn’t that huge of a thing if it’s being released tomorrow… supposedly.

I suppose I’ll get over it, but it’s very, very frustrating.

Well, anyway, plus side is I got my God of War III demo, which I shall be enjoying in a few.

Hello to all you guys, girls and ghouls. Time has come to nominate five games that are the cream of

Hello to all you guys, girls and ghouls. Time has come to nominate five games that are the cream of the crop in my eyes for the 2009 year. basically the rule is that it has to have been released in the year its being awarded to. It has to be a stand-alone title, no game of the year editions or re-released versions. Lastly has to be a game I have already played. So last year’s winner was “Little Big Planet”. Which game will make it this year? Let’s see…. the nominations are….

#1 Scribblenauts

This game is loads of fun. Never has a game made vocabulary such an interesting gameplay. What game lets you make God, a ninja and a rabbit fight to the death? The puzzles are very unique while making the difficulty balanced enough for an arrangement of gamers.

#2 Dragon Age Origins

Fresh off the truck Dragon Age is impressive in its dialogue and voice acting. The difficulty is tough but not controller breaking tough. The story is enough to keep you interested and getting to make your teammates love you so you can sleep with them is just fun. This game could mark a return of the dungeon crawlers.

#3 Batman: Arkham Asylam

I said it before and I’ll say it again. Many games make you play as Batman but, how many of those games make you FEEL like your Batman. Rocksteady worked very hard to make this the best Batman game and it’s seriously close to being not only the best Batman game, also the best comic book hero game. It has alot of good qualities that over-shadows the few bad qualities.

#1 Street Fighter 4

Yeah, I’m not happy with SF4. However, I can’t deny how much better this game is compared to other fighting games. It is next-gen Street Fighter 2 with all the characters, special moves and such. The online mode is the best by far from any other in the genre. Why it gets nominated is because even though I disapprove of it I still play it over the rest of the fighting games this year.

There you have it folks. I know some of you think your favorite titles should be nominated but I either didn’t think it was better than these or it didn’t qualify. I’m open to anyones thoughts and the winner will be announced Jan 2.
