Fresh from her stellar performance at Cargo last night, star-in-waiting Ellie Goulding has announced details of her first headline tour of the UK on the heels of her debut album, due March 1 through Polydor. The 17-date tour kicks off at the Thekla in Bristol on March 25 and runs right through to April 17 with a concluding show at the Cardiff Barfly. Tickets go on sale on Friday. In the meantime, Ellie has a trio of dates left on her current tour with Little Boots and an impending support slot on Passion Pit’s latest UK jaunt, which kicks off on March 3. She’ll also be appearing at a ‘New To Q’ Showcase at the Notting Hill Tabernacle on January 30. Tour dates in full below. Ellie’s next single will be ‘Starry Eyed’, out February 22.

I took Lucy to Dublin yesterday to see Little Boots in concert. She was brilliant (I’ll do a blog about that tomorrow).
Jono was meant to be coming as well, but his back is too bad to stand for any length of time. So he stayed with Andy.

We went on the train and because of the floods the train line between Carrick on Shannon and Longford is under between 3-5 feet of water. So we had to get a bus from Carrick to Longford and the same on the way back. So it took around 4 hours each way Sligo-Dublin instead of the usual 3.

This photo is of Carrick on Shannon, it’s hard to see the floods because of the fog. The yellow building you can see a tiny bit of is the Landmark Hotel.

The main N4 road towards Tesco and the retail park is completely flooded so there is a detour up through the town of Carrick on Shannon and down by the MBNA building. There were big tailbacks of traffic and the bus driver was telling us that the traffic was so bad the other day it took almost two hours for him to get from Carrick on Shannon to Longford.
I have to share this link of photos of the floods….some amazing photos there.
So if you are travelling in that direction be prepared for delays.

Florence and The Machine – Rabbit Heart (Raise it Up) (Switch Remix)

If you frequent music blogs, you’ve probably seen about 70 Florence and The Machine remixes lately because, let’s face it, they are the new Phoenix/Passion Pit of the indie world. This remix, however, COMPLETELY dominates any other Rabbit Heart remix I’ve listened to so far. Switch makes this track peppy, catchy, and utterly unlike any other remix I’ve heard. He was, after all, behind M.I.A.’s Kala, so that should give you some idea as to what kind of energy he’s putting into this…

Little Boots – Stuck on Repeat (Fake Blood Remix)

Another truly quality remix from Fake Blood. This, along with Kicking and Screaming, are on literally every playlist I make. This track builds like no other, and if you don’t know Little Boots you’ll quickly learn she’s THE hot thing in English electropop right now.

Cascada – Fever (Mowgli & Bagheera Remix)

To be honest it pains me a little to be posting Cascada, but this song is undeniably good. It does sound a TON like Crookers, though, which is nothing to bitch about, so I’m just gonna leave you with the admission that it is one of the catchier things I have heard…ever…god damnit…

UK pop songstress Little Boots has been getting tons of love from big cats like Rusko, Drop the Lime, and  A1 Bassline. Right now I’m hooked on this Fake Blood rmx of  Stuck on Repeat- it’s got great build up and a heavy drop.  The original Stuck on Repeat was produced by Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard and was released on Boots’ debut album Hands. Her sound is similar to Kylie Minogue, but unlike Kylie, Little Boots actually plays instruments and writes her own songs. She may have little boots, but she def packs a big punch.

I’ve recently discovered Little Boots, one of the few (or only?!) synthpop artists with clean lyrics – plus she’s a little more “synth” and less “pop” .  She’s from the UK, so it’s very difficult to get her full album (yet), but you can get her earlier EP and watch the videos Earthquake and Remedy online.

For the past few months, I had considered creating a soundtrack for the book I’m writing, so when I heard she was doing a remix competition with a deadline in 1 month, I figured it was the perfect opportunity to take a month off of writing and try my hand at making music.

Now, a month later, the remix is complete. Huge thanks to my wife, Jessica, for being gracious while I threw countless morning, evening and weekend hours into this project – the first half of the month just learning the software (indescribably frustrating) – and the second half trying to teach myself the requisite music theory (I will read some music composition/theory before attempting this again) and actually write the music.

So without further ado, here is my remix: Earthquake – Unashamed Studios Mix (and of course I wouldn’t mind if you voted for it or commented on it )

Oh man, Little Boots‘ “Meddle” on the album “Arecibo” is a guilty pleasure for two reasons. First – I love this song just because it makes me want to dance alone in my room and it has a really good beat. Second – The song is all about messing with a girl’s head, and I cant listen to it and not think about my ex. Lets just say I didn’t end that one real well… This one’s for you B.

So it has been a while since I have blogged and I am going to try and ease myself back into it with some music recommendations.

This is a broad music recommendation because these are music finds from the last few months and I must nod to those around me that are currently infleuncing my soundtrack.

The XX self named album is great espically for night time in particular late night talks over tea or vodka…. The newest single from the album  is Crystalised and another song I would recommend is ‘Heart skipped a Beat’ , they are playing in Tripod in December 19th.

I have only recently started to listen to Bat for Lashes and I am eagerly waiting for her to scheldue an Irish gig, but of you are new to BFL check out ‘Sleep Alone’.

One female singer songwriter that I have been listening to  for a while is Little Boots she played The Academy Friday night where she performed a new song she had written after seeing Twilight New Moon called ‘Echoes’ she may be able to get you moving with Remedy and Earthquake but this new song really shows the strength of her voice and her superb songwriting abilities.

Since we are on the topic of New Moon the soundtrack has been on my ipod for a few weeks now and contrary to what many music critics may say my favourite song is theDeath Cab for Cutie ‘Meet me on the Equinox’ it has been said that once DCFC are out of the way, the soundtracks stronger songs come forward but if you want to check out Death Cab for Cutie away from Twilight listen to ‘I will possess your heart’.

Returning back to female singer songwriter one of my favourites at the moment is Marina and the Diamonds she recently palyed a gig at The Academy, before releasing her latest single Mowgoli Road she had the enitre audience singing all of her songs back to her. Her videos are superb Mowgli Road , Obession and I am not a Robot are all worth checking out on her myspace.

Finally, an Irish band I would like to receommend is Heritage Centre a favouite of mine is ‘I like I will protect you’ unfortunately they have no upcoming gigs at the moment but keep an eye on their myspace.
