I wrote over 5,000 words again today thanks to Christian and our incessant word wars. I just need 1,300 to finish today’s goal, but I might just go to sleep. Today has been an incredibly long day and I have to wake up in the morning. I finished my english paper comparing the screenplay and film versions of Little Miss Sunshine. That movie is a pile of joy and I had forgotten how much I loved it. If you haven’t seen it, please do. It is lovely.

I feel like it should be Wednesday right now since I’ve done so much in the last two days. I think I wrote about 10,000 words! We would write for 15, then break for another 15, then back on for 15. It was mind numbing. I feel very wound up and every time I start talking to people I feel like I’m grasping for words and throwing them out. It would be amusing if… naw, it’s amusing. I’m actually super proud of myself for getting this far. I’m a little bit past 37k and about to head into the “climax” I guess I could call it. Things are going way better than I thought they would. Tomorrow I have very little actual school to do, and might hang out with Shannon. We shall see. Also, it’s Morgan’s birthday! Woo! Time to sleep. Gnight!

my mum and i. Wthh right? it was pretty weird but it turned out alright (:

Today’s my brother’s birthday but decided to celebrate it
on thursday instead (: hahaha. Oh well.
I feel that i got soo many things happening on thursday. hahaha(:

AHH! Okay. Well, Christian has been my hero all day. (That link is to his fantabulous blog. Check it out.) We warred on and off all day and it was fantastic. We both scooted up over the 30k mark, which means we are three fifths of the way done. That is how much a black person’s vote used to count for! That is a worthless form of cooking measure! That is how far we are! Neither of us has school tomorrow, so hopefully we can catch up to the official count. We are about 5,000 behind now, much less than our previous 10,000 or so. I’m feeling good about this and can almost see what’s happening in my novel. It feels good.

I stayed up almost an hour and a half later than I wanted to because I decided to do my math homework tonight, so all i have to focus on tomorrow is Nano and my english essay on Little Miss Sunshine. I have an innovative way to do that essay, though, so I think it will turn out alright. I’m going to read through the screen play and then as I watch the movie, read through it again and check for differences and take notes. Then my essay will be a breeze! I have a math test tuesday morning, then I’m watching a movie on the play Proof in english. By the way, if you haven’t read that play, please do, I really enjoyed it and it’s a quick read, for those of you who have adverse feelings toward reading. It really sucks you in. Very dynamic. Then I’m doing something in Bio, hopefully getting our essays back, and then I’m completely free until choir that night. How rad is that? My sociology class is canceled, so I have a huge long afternoon free. I have NO idea what I will use it for, but it’s going to be great. Maybe nap or play pool or leave or something. I should probably write more eh?

Well it’s off to sleep for me, Buddy is making a grand example snoring next to me.

Cuando uno era jovenzano estaba de moda la música de un fulano con bombachos y gafas que con una canción llamada U can’t touch this copaba las listas de éxitos del mercachifleo musical. Como es obvio, aclamado como precursor del rap y el hip-hop, el tipo en cuestión fue olvidado como siempre en estos casos justo al cuarto de hora de su éxito. Perplejo se quedó quien escribe cuando, todavía de joven y para más inri, en una de las millonésimas reposiciones de El equipo A que emitía (y sigue emitiendo) cierto canal televisivo español con cierta inclinación a lo cutre, descubrió este tema del ya fallecido (pero no creemos que por eso) Rick James, Super Freak, todo un homenaje a sí mismo (mucho ojito, que aunque el meloncio éste gaste semejante pinta en la foto, en sus inicios compartió grupo con todo un Neil Young), en un capítulo que contaba con el intérprete en un pequeño papel. Luego resultó evidente que M. C. Hammer había destrozado la (ya de por sí triste) canción de James para “rapear” (en esa asquerosa moda consistente en tomar una melodía de éxito y devaluarla poniéndole chumba chumbas varios, costumbre convertida en habitual ya y a la que se ha consagrado lo más vomitivo del espectro musical mundial, empezando por ese engendro llamado Madonna), despojándola, eso sí, de la guasa con que se la tomaba el autor original.

Avispados, los responsables de Pequeña Miss Sunshine, esa joya de la comedia dramática dirigida por Jonathan Dayton y Valerie Faris en 2006 recuperaron la versión original para la escena final, el número musical de la pequeña Olive (Abigail Breslin) en el certamen de belleza infantil con cuyo despliegue coreográfico ensayado durante horas en compañía de su abuelo, habitual de los bares de strip-tease, la niña escandaliza a la concurrencia y defeca virtualmente sobre semejante bochorno de concurso (lo cual es extensible a los de la misma especie protagonizados por mayores de edad).

I’m not sure exactly how many films I’ve seen in my lifetime.

It is probably over a thousand, the list below barely scratches the surface of all the films I’ve seen and it was surprisingly easy to come up with. Rather than systematically list films by era or genre I got my brother’s girlfriend Dawn to call out any films she could think of.

I thought of this idea about five minutes before I began typing and Dawn rattled off films as they came to her while I typed out brief verdicts for each one. I initially intended to create a system for rating but found it too restrictive so I just wrote a brief instinctual verdict for each one.

I have included a link to Rotten Tomatoes and the score of each film, I haven’t seen some of these movies in a very long time…

Life Sometimes Isn't Easy

sunshine cleaning, sebuah film dengan embel embel “from the produser  of little miss sunshine”. otomatis ketika melihatnya sayapun langsung menontonnya, dengan jajaran cast yang lumayan, amy adams, emily blunt plus alan arkin, alhasil cerita drama yang tidak biasa pun terlahir, dengan cerita yang agak nyeleneh tapi lumayan menyentuh.

menceritakan rose (adams) yang berprofesi sehari hari sebagai pelayan maupun pembantu rumahan, bekerja seharian demi menghidupi keluarganya, sedangkan rose mempunyai adik yaitu norah (blunt) seorang wanita pengangguran yang masih tinggal bersama ayahnya (arkin). rose sadar bekerja banting tulang tidak bisa mencukupi kehidupannya plus untuk membiayai anaknya sekolah, akhirnya dia mendapat ide karena sering “tidur” dengan temannya seorang polisi yang selalu cerita biaya membersihkan TKP bekas pembunuhan lumayan mahal karena sedikit orang yang mengerjakannya.

tiba tiba saja rose berpikir bahwa ini saat yang tepat untuk ganti profesi sebagai tukang pembersih TKP, dia pun mengajak adiknya untuk bekerja sama, maka petualangan pun terjadi, seperti cerita yang sederhana, tapi didalamnya tersimpan bermacam macam kisah menyentuh, bagaimana perjuangan rose untuk bisa membiayai anaknya, serta rasa trauma norah atas kehilangan ibunya yang sebenarnya rose juga rasakan, plus ketika norah “mengacaukan” tugas pembersihan TKP terakhirnya semakin membuat rose tertekan, but its always a way out right?

drama keluarga yang serba kesulitan sana sini disajikan dengan unik dan kadang lucu sebagai agen pembersih TKP wanita, hingga sang ayah pun akhirnya mengerti bagaimana kesulitan rose dan selalu menanggapinya dengan tenang, intinya cerita film ini adalah bagaimana sebuah keluarga bisa menghadapi cobaan secara bersama sama dengan cara unik mereka, toh worth to watch sebagai hiburan serta “charger” semangat anda. enjoy.

Well, vamos a ver… ¿Que ha pasado….? Well, today was a bit mixed. Yesterday was nothingy as normal. That is to say, normal insofar as nothing hugely exciting happened. I went to my lecture. I did my laundry. My laundry was an issue. It always is. The washer didn’t spin my clothes round enough, so I had to wring them out, and THEN someone had just put their washing in the dryer as I wanted it. So very unamused. I checked every 20 mins, for like 40 mins, then gave up and decided to go do my drying at Rob’s. I will be doing all laundry there in future. It is like a palace, compared to where I live, let alone my laundry. So, yes, that was yesterday.

Today has been good. Well. I suppose. Upon walking to my first class of the day, a man came up to me wanting money for something. I heard him out, then explained that I was English. This did not deter him. Plans to give him a couple of Euros failed the moment he saw I had 30€. Especially when he said they needed at least another 20 for the kids. It’s for some kind of kids sports thing that includes pédagogie. Pedagogy is France’s favourite word, and I’m still a little sketchy upon it’s meaning. I think it’s something to do with education. It probably is. Anyway, I am a moron, and a moron minus 30€. I fear I may be on “La vraie escroquerie”. J’espere que non, and that somewhere, poor Jean-Paul is thanking me. He’d fucking best be.

Moving on. Spanish civilisation was fine, as always. I got 14 on last weeks test, which works out as 67 in real terms. Success! Library time happened. It is an odd library, with too many different levels. It gets a bit confusing. But, I found out where languages are hiding, so that is my new Mecca. English happened, and I got some work back, getting 13,5. So another success!  I also got my cirefe work back, getting 17! I love this woman. 17! My highest mark in anything university-related. Ever. Fact.

Ce soir, I went to Cafe Español. It was Eva, Maria and myself. I had to fight back the crowds to get in (!) We played Mikado, listened to Spanish music, then retired to chez Eva to regard a film. It was kind of like the Argentine version of Little Miss Sunshine, but weird. Anyway, cider was consumed. Not alot. Her friends turned up. Who were chavs. What happened next was awkwardness of the French variety. I had to cheek-kiss the French men. It was just awkward. I thought they were all about shaking hands here?! Gah. Way to confuse me, France!

Wo Ai Ni Baby <3<3

I expected today to be good, but not as amazing as it actually was! Colin came over and after the snippets of conversation with Mum and asking him if he’d like a drink, I went upstairs. I suggested watching a film, and he hadn’t seen Little Miss Sunshine! I couldn’t believe it! That film is classic.

For those of you who haven’t seen it, it is about a dysfunctional family. A family which has a suicidal uncle, drug-taking grandpa, arguing parents, a non-talking son and a daughter who dreams of being Miss America, oh, and the parents argue all the time. Colin thought the whole film was “genius”, especially the final scene when Olive is dancing terribly, but the family get really close. Everything falls apart, but they’re a great family. Watch it if you can!

We later went for a walk up to Dunkirk and back, through the woods. Surprisingly I bumped into Mrs Crouch, a biology teacher at my school. It was a shock as I sort of thought that teachers lived in cupboards, either that or they just didn’t leave home. It was a lovely walk.

When we got back we sat down with a cup of tea and watched The Impressions show by Jon Culshaw. It was iplayer, and it was an amazing show, Jon Culshaw is amazing with his impression. After that we had a cup of tea, cake and a murder she wrote. It was funny – the acting is a bit… iffy, to say the least. And the storyline a bit unbelievable, but that’s all part of the fun. I really enjoyed being so close Colin throughout it.

Suddenly, I realised it was 7PM. I don’t know where today had gone. Earlier we had practised I’m Yours by Jason Mraz and then I really wanted to record it. Obviously the timing’s dodgy, and it’s not exactly perfect, but Colin’s voice is amazing. I thought you’d all love to see it – so here we are. It is our coupley song, and it reflects exactly how I feel to him – I’m his.

Okayy, well i was in the wrong. But i really don’t want this to end.

Little Miss Sunshine fait partie de ces films qui suscitent une forte réaction, surtout quand on avoue que non, on ne l’a toujours pas vu. Généralement, une exclamation en voix de tête du type : “QUOOOOOOOIIIIIIIIIIIII??? Mais c’est TROP bien, il faut que tu le voies” avec 1 000 points d’exclamation derrière. Et ma sempiternelle réponse du “oui, oui, à l’occasion”…Il se trouve que l’occasion a pris la forme d’un DVD à 5€ à côté de chez moi, et surtout de mon sublime nouvel ordinateur, cadeau d’anniversaire de mon père, avec un écran qui fait honneur aux films (il faut dire que comme je ne regarde pas souvent la télé, je n’ai pas de lecteurs DVDs et mon poste est loin, mais alors vraiment très loin, des écrans plans qu’on voit en boutiques actuellement).

Alors comme souvent, quand on a tellement d’attentes d’un film, on reste un peu sur sa faim…Cela dit, dans la lignée de Away we go, la philosophie positive du film fait plaisir à voir.

Le pitch : le film tourne autour d’une famille composée d’un père qui prône la réussite en 9 étapes et qui est un loser fini, d’un fils qui a fait voeu de silence avant de rentrer dans la Airforce Academy et qui hait tout le monde, d’un grand-père libidineux qui se shoote à l’héro pour profiter de la vie, et de la mère qui fait le liant entre tous ces personnages. Là-dessus, son frère suicidaire se joint à la troupe, dont le dernier élément est la petite dernière, Olive, une petite fille de 7 ans. Pas très jolie, un peu ronde, elle gagne un concours de beauté de seconde zone et se retrouve qualifiée pour un concours de bien plus haut niveau, le concours de Little Miss Sunshine. Toute la famille se réunit donc pour lui permettre de participer à cette nouvelle aventure, et de concrétiser son rêve par la même occasion.

Il est faux de dire que c’est un film “drôle”, parce qu’il est à la fois drôle et touchant, triste, émouvant…Chaque personnage apporte une couleur particulière à ce film. Olive, bien que finalement assez peu présente, apporte un souffle de légèreté avec sa vision d’enfant et ses questions un peu naïves. Personnellement, j’ai particulièrement apprécié le personnage du frère, moine silencieux qui finit par rompre son vœu de silence dans un “FUCK” aussi monumental que libérateur…Le “Fuck” que tout le monde rêve de sortir au moins une fois dans sa vie….

Honnêtement, il y avait un moment où cette famille me semblait au-delà de tout espoir de réconciliation, et pourtant, à force de persévérance et de tolérance, non seulement ils y arrivent, mais c’est crédible ! Went for a job interview at  this child care center.

Went to meet Sam and Jade for pool at cineleisure.
