Its about damn time that Media Molecule is doing something that they have promised since pretty much

Its about damn time that Media Molecule is doing something that they have promised since pretty much the start of the game. Finally, on Nov. 30th, there will be a patch to tweak some well needed areas, and add other things, that are pretty cool, plus allows you to create a level online with a friend, instead of just having them sit next to you…The most important improvement over the offline Create mode is the camera; Each player gets his/her own camera, allowing them to work on different parts of the level simultaneously. For seasoned creators, this will definately speed up the process.

The LBP save system has also be redone, for the better…atleast I think so! Players will be able to hold double, if not more, of community items, so for builders this is a big plus, especially for those who like to create their own parts.

As for the many other tweaks, well keep reading lol…

If you play a level but do not complete it, a silver Sackboy medal will be displayed on the badge, to get a gold medal you must complete the level.

The LittleBigStore a bit easier to navigate and also to download things after purchase.

There is now an option to ‘Auto-Reject’ invitations from other players. The option is in ‘Profile Settings’. If you have this set to ‘On, no one will be able to join you unless you choose to ‘Play Online’. This setting is not saved to your profile and needs to be set every time you play.

Sticker switches have been made more noticeable and give better feedback to the player when attempting to place stickers on them.

Checkpoints can now be activated using switches.

Race Gates can be made thin again!

You can now use the Sticker and Decoration tool and turn Sackboy around while in Customisation mode.

Added the QWERTY keyboard layout to the text chat menu.

Play, Create, Share scores have been removed – we thought these scores were a good idea but they never worked in the way we wanted them to. They may return one day. Maybe.

If you collect a key whilst playing a community level, you will now see the level unlocking for you once the level you are playing has been completed. You can also search for linked levels in the search menu.

Pressing and while browsing community levels can now show you the name or the author of each level on the earth as well as the Heart Count and Rating.

¿O Disney? ¿Marvel?

¿Para Cuando?

The Entertainment Software Association is jumping for joy today over President Barack Obama’s

The Entertainment Software Association is jumping for joy today over President Barack Obama’s acceptance of video games as an educational tool. As part of a bigger plan to boost education in science, technology, engineering and math, two game design competitions were announced, and the results will be used in classrooms, libraries and community organizations.

One of the contests will challenge game designers to create levels in last year’s Playstation 3 exclusive LittleBigPlanet, stressing science and math. The winning levels will be distributed for free, as all LBP levels are, and Sony will also donate 1,000 PS3s, along with the game, to libraries and community groups in low-income areas.

The other contest is a straight-up math and science-themed game design competition. Speaking to Kotaku, ESA President and CEO Michael Gallagher said the games could reach school classrooms by next fall. He beamed that today is a “very, very good day” for the gaming industry and “a significant leap into maturity and toward acceptance.”

This might sound silly, but I’m hoping that whatever comes out of these contests isn’t overtly educational, because that concept is neither new nor exciting. I played Number Munchers in elementary school, and while I was happy to be gaming instead of solving problems on paper, deep down I’d rather have been playing Pac-Man, or better yet, Super Mario Bros. Fast forward 20 years, and you’ve got the “Heating Plastics” game at the Nobel Prize’s Web site, which I could barely sit through long enough to find out how to play. It’s like chloroform.

Games are certainly capable of hiding their educational qualities. If you play an RPG, you’ll pick up resource management skills. If you play a strategy game, you’ll deal with conflicting and complicated decisions. Play Portal or World of Goo and you’ll learn a thing or two about physics. I don’t think math and science skills are impossible to bake into game types that kids really want to be playing. The trick is to mask it, otherwise it’s just another educational game the kid will forget once he or she is back home with the Wii.

So yes, games industry, today is an important day. Don’t blow it.

I’ve been splitting my leisure time (that isn’t spent on recording music) between LBP and MW2, quite possibly two of the greatest games of all-time. However, the one thing that angers me about them both is the story for the single-player experience. Both games need some serious attention devoted to their stories. By the way, if you haven’t finished MW2 by now, Shepard’s a traitor, Price comes back, Roach gets killed by Shepard, and Soap kills Shepard with a throwing knife. Mind you, this is all after Price launches a nuclear warhead into the Earth’s atmosphere that acts as a giant EMP…but doesn’t rain radiation down upon everyone. (If you’re scratching your head, you’re not the only one). And, LBP, with its out-of-the-blue-final-boss-that-really-is-super-easy–
Oh, screw it, just read the LBP and Modern Warfare TV Tropes page (greatest website ever, besides here)
Now that my nerdisms are out the way, I’m floating up shit’s creek armless with the paddles right in front of me. I have about 35 pages of work I need to crank out in the next couple weeks. This, conveniently enough, happens to fall over the Thanksgiving break. So, in addition to dealing with bookoo work, I have to deal with my little cousins running around like brats out of hell.
Yuuuuup.

These LittleBigPlanet updates continue to get more clever. Sega is teaming with Sony to release 5 new Sackboy costumes this December; all based heavily on Sonic Unleashed. Cute!

LittleBigPlanet’s trip to the PSP was a faithful transition. While the entire project isn’t as smooth or as fresh as Media Molecule’s PS3 offering, Cambridge made the absolute best of it on less powerful hardware. Load times are a bummer (especially hampering the create mode) and the community levels are an unknown quantity, but the nearly 40 included level are solid and, with the exception of big brother, unlike much else the portable side of 2D platforming. Omissions aside, it still looks, feels, and plays like LittleBigPlanet – and now it’s in your pocket, which is hardly something to complain about.

LittleBigPlanet PSP Academy of Art Game Jam Session Winners Announced

November 13, 2009 – Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. (SCEA) and the Academy of Art University announced the winners of the 24-hour LittleBigPlanet™PSP Game Jam Session, which took place on November 11 and 12 in San Francisco. Students from the School of Game Design were tasked with using their keen artistic talents to create levels for LittleBigPlanet PSP, employing San Francisco architectural landmarks to incorporate into their level designs for the chance to have their level playable online when the game launches on November 17.

The judging panel was comprised of Academy of Art University faculty and SCEA executives who took into account how well they utilized local architecture into their level, the fun factor of each level and overall creativity. After reviewing and deliberating over the five landmark entries, which included Alcatraz, Coit Tower, Golden Gate Bridge, Powell Street and Cable Cars, and the Victorian neighborhoods, Nathan Bryan, Desiree Ong, and Doanna Neville of the Powell Street and Cable Cars team were chosen as the grand prize winners. They will have the honor of having their level featured online when LittleBigPlanet PSP launches next week. In addition, each member of the team was awarded with a PSP® (PlayStation®Portable)go, PlayStation’s newest handheld entertainment system and an advance copy of LittleBigPlanet PSP. No one went home empty handed though; members of the other four teams also received a copy of the game.

LittleBigPlanet™, the PlayStation®3 (PS3™) hit that won various Game of the Year Awards last year and is credited with defining the “creative gaming” genre, is coming to the PSP®(PlayStation Portable) and PSPgo for the first time on November 17. Developed by Sony Computer Entertainment’s Cambridge Studio in close collaboration with the award-winning Media Molecule team, LittleBigPlanet PSP allows players to bring the beloved SackBoy™ with them on the go.

Sorry about this, but I have a rant I must get off my Chest immediately, or my large brain will explode.

If you pointlessly surf the Web a lot, you’ll know that Nintendo are releasing a new DSi. The DSi LL (as it’s known in Japan – it’ll be the DSi XL everywhere else) will be another upgrade to the ever-popular, world-beating Nintendo DS System, featuring two massive 4-inch screens and a new kind of Stylus. It’ll also be even more expensive than the Current Nintendo DSi (which could mean this new version is even more expensive than a Wii). But the big question on my Lips is this: Why do Nintendo feel it’s necessary to release another DS upgrade, considering that a) Once released, it’ll have been less than a year since the first DSi came out, b) The new model will cost much more than Nintendo’s Far-more-succesful Console, the Wii, and c) Almost everyone wants the far cheaper but less feature-rich DS Lite?

I like Nintendo in General. I have a Wii and both me and my dad each have a DS Lite, and whilst I’ve been considering a DSi, I have Guitar Hero (Damn You Activision for not making a DSi-Compatible Grip!), which prevents me from upgrading. With Modern Warfare 2 now gracing my 360 Collection and Left 4 Dead 2 on Pre-order, New Super Mario Bros. Wii and some extra Nintendo Points are top of my Christmas list. But come on Nintendo, you really are taking the piss. With the Wii and DSiWare being the only platforms Nintendo Seems to care about making games for, my DS Lite sits next to me, feeling lonely from a lack of big games. Whenever Nintendo comes out with “Games” for the DS, they’re usually just things Like Cooking Guide or Nintendo Presents: Style Boutique – in other words, Nintendo are creating lifestyle carts that don’t interest me. Instead of focusing its talent on new and original Games (like Professor Layton) they’re either Porting successful games (Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree, anyone?), making sequels that do very little that’s different to their predecessors (Layton 2 and Zelda: Spirit Tracks, I’m looking at you), or making constant, dizzying “Improvements” to existing hardware to make it more profitable and increase its longevity (which is where I begin pointing at the DSi and this new, upcoming Cash Cow, the DSi XL), making it look like the Apple of the Gaming industry.

WHY, Nintendo? Just Because you’re Number 1, and most of the UK’s population has a DS, doesn’t mean you need to leave your core audience behind entirely in favour of Profit.

After all, whilst this kerfuffle is happening, with my Christmas money just around the corner, LittleBigPlanet arriving on PSP, and Sainsbury’s reducing the price of Sony’s handheld by 20%, Nintendo are really making me think about a PSP this Christmas…

Αμ δε!

Those looking to take the world of LittleBigPlanet around wherever they go don’t have long to wait as Sony today confirmed (via CVG) that the PSP iteration is to be released on November 20th. That’s two weeks from today. This isn’t a scaled down port either and almost seems to fit better on the PSP. Simple but fun platforming with intuitive level creation is perfect for a portable device. It may not have any multiplayer modes but does have brand new levels – would you say that’s a fair swap?

Never have I wanted anything more than these – other than Mass Effect 2 of course. Whilst perusing some online retailers I happened upon these rather cute official LittleBigPlanet Sackboy plushies and toys. From left to right we have the three inch articulated figure at £3.99 RRP, the six inch articulated figure costing £7.99 RRP, 18cm Sackboy beanie for only £6.99 RRP and the respectable 32cm Plush at £12.99 RRP. I found these on Play.com which also knocked off a couple of quid from the RRP making them even more of a bargain for gaming memorabilia enthusiasts such as myself. Sadly, the Plush and Beanie don’t have a confirmed retail date but can be preordered whereas the the articulated figures go on sale from November 20th. Can you resist? I know I can’t!

Can you believe it? LittleBigPlanet is nearly one whole year old – our little Sackboy is growing up (I say wiping a tear from my eye). To celebrate the momentous occasion, Media Molecule are giving away a free birthday cake costume in this Thursday’s PSN releases. But seeing as they’re a kind bunch of chaps MM decided that wasn’t enough and are offering the space suit costume – originally only available for early adopters – which will also be free. Both are available for one week only however.

So, one year on with an ever growing number of user created levels to bounce through. But let’s not forget it’s also one year on without a stable online component to the game. Hopefully the upcoming water physics patch should rectify this but, until then, join me in dressing your Sackboy like a cake!

No me sorprende que el poder de la “Fuerza” esté conmigo.
