Hace unos días encotré una noticias sobre Zac Efron, actor dee High School Musical, declarando en una entrevista su admiración por la serie de  Death Note y su deseo de participar en el proyecto del live-action en versión americana. No sólo eso, sino que de sus declaraciones, algo inseguras, se desprende que ya está participando activamente en la producción.

Esto fue lo que dijo: “Me encanta Death Note y estamos trabajando en ello… definitivamente es algo que no llegará pronto… no está en los planes a corto plazo. Es algo que ha estado ahí… Estoy convencido que diga lo que yo diga ahora, será la próxima película. Era una idea, y quién sabe…  tengo una reunión sobre el tema. .”

Woop! The Double project is now complete

I now present to you ‘Single’:

The critique didn’t go too well as per usual. Esteban just banged on about the music and blahdy blah, which he had already banged on about previously, and was just repeating himself, instead of talking to us about the edit and such, which was supposed to be what we were actually learning about. So I kind of feel that it was just a waste of 15 minutes of our time, just listening to old stuff instead learning anything new. He says that his views are just down to his own opinion, but then contradicts himself by making it sound like there is some sort of rule book.

He says that the music doesn’t add anything to the film, therefore we shouldn’t use it. The music makes it flat and emotionless… But my group and myself feel the opposite. The music sets the pace of the film I think, and goes well with the voice over… It might not add a lot to the film, but we are not composers. We needed something to give the film a little kick up the jacksy, to keep the viewer interested, to help us with our edit as we couldn’t get the pace right, and I think it did just that… He makes it sound as if there is a rule that you shouldn’t use music whatsoever, if that is so, then why do so many Hollywood films that have won Oscars, made billions of dollars use musical scores (both soundtrack and composed music specially for the film)? It just really bugs me… We were supposed to be learning about editing in this project, yet we are scrutinised be several other things that we are not made aware of…

Ok, I shall stop now. The response to the title sequences was positive – my Single title was used. So I am quite over the moon with that. The crit for the titles shall be on Friday with Suzi. And Sydney’s name title looks like a penis when melted. Hilarious.

There’s two things I want to talk about on this sunny (believe it or not) Wednesday afternoon.

Firstly, last night I went to see ‘A Christmas Carol 3D’

From the start to the end, I was totally immersed in the film. Not because of the story line (it was actually that part of the film that intrigued me less and somewhat bored me – probably because I have heard the story a thousand times over), but because of the exceptional animation. Exceptionally detailed, exceptionally edited, exceptionally animated, and an exceptional use of 3D. It’s getting to the point where the age old concern of actors being replaced with photo-realistic animations could actually be coming true. It’s breath-takingly real. That, added with an actual thought out use of 3D, instead of using it for the sake of it, made this a marvelous christmas film. The only pitful of this movie is the story. The story is old, it has been heard and done many times before, and I have never particularly had any interest in it anyway, but that’s just my view. Oh and as another point, no way should this have a PG age rating!! I jumped out of my skin at least four times throughout… and I’m an…*cough*…adult….

Secondly, oh what a palaver getting home… I went to see the movie at the amazing O2 arena which used to be the Millenium Dome. On the same evening, there was a massive tennis event going on, thousands of people. Which unfortunately meant total mayhem getting home, with things going on reminiscent of scenes from the Titanic movie

MAHUSIVE queues to get to the tube station and buses, people jumping in, trying to barge through doors, getting thrown out, starting fights and arguments, ransacking buses (I went through the backdoors and didn’t pay a penny hehe…) All because of the sheer panic of the thought of not being able to get home… It was actually quite amazing… The phrase ‘Give an inch and take a mile’ comes to mind

However, it got me thinking, (even more so because I am currently reading ‘Day of the Triffids’ by John Wyndham), if something as small as this could make humans act like savages and forget their upbringing, making it look like they were dragged up rather than brought up, then what would happen if an actual travesty did happen… For example, in Day of the Triffids, the world goes blind apart from a lucky few – the blind take those that can see hostage and smash up shops amongst many other things, because of panic and for their need to survive… This is supposed to be fiction, but in many ways it hits a nerve because as little as we would like to believe, this is what humanity would be like. A similar story is told in Lord of the Flies by William Golding, which shows what would happen if there was a group of young boys left on a deserted island on their own with no order… To cut the long story short, the result isn’t pretty. Look at what people do in order to survive in the Saw films. Harm others. KILL others. Even though these are film references which are fictitious, yesterday’s events made it seem like it could happen… If it doesn’t already…

Humans in nature are savage. When it comes down to it, the majority of humans would rather kill than be killed. This can be applied to many scenarios. Two people fighting for a promotion. Ownership of oil. The last Rolo. Greed is another nasty human trait…

Hell, I could go on. We are all guilty of things. I just hope that a travesty doesn’t happen, or it will be the end of the world as we know it…

What else is there to do while you are in the uni library, supposed to be writing a 2000 word essay on ‘How women are portrayed in comic books’ and actually set out to do just that, but Open-I’m-going-to-crash-every-time-you-try-to-type-a-character-or-click-the-mouse-Office keeps on doing everything that it says on its given name. So to stop myself from jumping out of the library window and plummeting 6 floors towards concrete and cars, I’m going to blog.

Apologies for not posting any proper photographs of my Palindrome Magazine as of yet, I’ve had too much work to do at the moment, including research for mentioned essay and finishing the ‘Double’ video. But, I do have to hand in my portfolio of the years work so far on Monday, which will mean I will have loads of lovely jpegs to post for you to gander at.

Ok, well to start with, my group have finally made our final cut of our ‘double’ themed 1-minute film, which we are now calling ‘Single’ (oh aren’t we funny). Sophie is friends of one of the band members of ‘The XX‘, who has given us permission to use one of their tracks, in our video, which really helped us piece it together and getting the tempo right. We changed the voice from mine to Sophie’s, as well, I can’t rap to save my life and she could get the pace right. Here is our final cut:

The background music needs to be a little bit louder I think so the beats really come through. And I really don’t know why it is black for the first few seconds. It’s not supposed to be like that.

On top of that, last night we all did a title sequence separately – all based on cheese melting. The best title will be used, and all of our names will be pieced together at the end. Here are mine:

Niezłe zaplecze reżyserskie, co nie?

Dzisiaj wyjątkowo post o filmie z prawdziwymi aktorami, etc, a to tylko dlatego, że to “coś” powstało na podstawie serii anime.

Po obejrzeniu trailera, od razu nastawiałem się, że ten film będzie bardzo słaby. Głównie dlatego, że zwykle jak robią film na podstawie mangi/gry/komiksu/serialu animowanego, to zwykle jest to bullcrap. Owszem, może i to jest szpan, że film powstał dzięki twórcom takich hitów jak “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” oraz mojego ukochanego “Hero”, ale realia zawsze są inne. “Hero” było genialnym filmem, wręcz epickim, więc tym bardziej boli fakt, że twórcy tego cuda, zrobili coś tak ch******o. To się w pale nie mieści ==’!

Ale zanim się przejadę po tym filmie, zacznijmy od wykonania, które ssie … i to ostro. Mamy rok A.D. 2009 i technologia pozwala tak hardcore efekty specjalne, że głowa mała. Prosty przykład? “District 9″. No i mamy dzisiaj opisywane film … efekty specjalne niczym sprzed 10 laty! Żal!

Przejdźmy do audio. Tutaj o dziwo nic spieprzyli. Ale muzyka ssie. No i ten fake angielski …

A teraz wisienka na torcie, czyli fabuła. Long story, short ssie. I to grubo. Końcówka serii “Blood+” to był uber crap. Ale ten film? Mój boże … no i musieli dodać jakąś młodą amerykankę, po to by było coś asystowało głównej bohaterce …. No i końcówka filmu … nagle się okazuje, że Saia ma mob-control skill. Sorry, ale wytłukła tyle tych “złych” i nagle ma taki skill? I mean … trzeba sobie ułatwiać życie, a nie utrudniać!

Podsumowując i to bardzo krótko: gówniany film, oglądacie tylko na własną odpowiedzialność.

El autor de Ikkitousen y Battle Club, Yuji Shiozaki, comenzará una nueva serie llamada Goddess en la revista Young King debutando en la portada de la revista y con páginas a color. Además en ya se puso a la venta el tercer y último tomo de Battle Club 2nd StageY para los fans de Kurogane no Linebarrels terminará en febrero en la revista Champion Red de la editorial  Akita Shoten culminando así el manga de Eiichi Shimizu y Tomohiro Shimoguchi, esperemos que salgan con un nuevo manga igual de bueno que este pronto.

por otra parte para los seguidores de Peace Maker, Pace Maker Kurogane tendrá un live action para el mes de enero del 2010. Y se confirmó que Suga Kenta interpretará el papel de Sanpei. Para los que no saben Peace Maker Kurogane es una de las dos sagas creadas por Nanae Chrono que comparten un mismo mundo. Ésta en consta de 5 tomos por el momento, ya que se encuentra paralizada desde hace ya bastante tiempo.

This is just a quick blog before I tidy my room and shiz-niz, but this is the first(ish) cut of the my groups Double movie. It is actually untitled at the moment, which is stupid because we are supposed to be making the titles tomorrow :S Anyway, just let me know what you think. It’s not entirely what I want to be honest and not ‘my cup of tea’ as Esteban would say, but that’s what happens when you are working in a group. Just want to get it finished. Sigh.

Astroboy (or Tetsuwan Atomu, “Mighty Atom”, as he is called in Japan) was originally created in comic form by manga legend Osamu Tezuka in 1952. In the early 1960s, Tetsuwan Atomu was made into an animated TV series, which was a huge success worldwide (as Astroboy). The series was remade in the early 1980s and in 2003. Astro’s image still adorns bags, caps, t-shirts and anything else that remains still long enough for the print-bot to get at it. Now, of course, Astroboy has just been released as a computer-animated (CG) feature film, directed by David Bowers — a HK, US and Japan co-production with animation by Imagi.

Despite the 3-dimensional appearance of this film, there has been a live-action version that was even more genuinely 3-dimensional, if boasting very primitive SFX. This was in fact made four years before the famous anime series, airing on Fuji TV in 1959-1960. Masato Segawa starred as the robot-boy who fought against giant robots, space aliens, and other nasties.

Here is some clips from the show, plus a scene from the live-action Tetsujin 28-go TV series of the same period.

Also available is the opening ten minutes of a feature-length “compilation” movie, Fuhrer ZZZ, that was produced from the series. Note that the beginning moments utilise drawings from the manga.

Now, apparently, the 58 episodes of the live-action series are being released on DVD by Geneon Universal Entertainment in Japan. You can read about it here.

Formerly a failed, incomplete University project, this film was known as Three Chances. The goal was to create a 20-minute, narrative-driven, stop-motion psychological thriller. Unfortunately, due to time and financial constraints, it was hacked back to a contrived 10-minute bastardisation of the original plot and still ended up being unfinished for the final deadline.

Recently abandoning ideas of remaking it to its full 20-minute capacity, Three Chances has transformed into an amalgamation of nightmares. The plotline has also adjusted to focus on events more familiar or personal to myself to incorporate the full sense of nightmarish unease.

I almost shamefully embed here the previous incomplete version to give a sense of the awkwardness and discomfort that will be included in Hollow:Therapy, albeit with vastly improved visual elements. It will also be a collage of different styles, incorporating stop-motion, live-action, freeze-frame and still images, Flash and vector graphics and pixel art. The sound design will equally be a muddle of differing styles to reflect the shift in mood and perspective.

I just found it quite amusing and playful, and apt for this time of year. The colouring of the advert is also very nice and gives a certain atmosphere to it s a whole. Nicely shot me thinks

God. This is getting really stupid now.

My two Moving Images tutors totally contradict each other. Heck, one of the tutors even contradicts himself!

Today started well. Really well. My group were getting on fine. Absolutely fine. In comes in my tutor, who basically says that he hates what we’ve done. Our ‘good-looking, photogenic’ actor is actually ‘not that nice looking and has bad skin’. We should have put make up on him apparently. The lighting is bad. The focus is bad. ‘Zis is bad. ‘Zat is bad. WELL IF YOU TAUGHT US ALL ABOUT THIS STUFF IN THE FIRST PLACE AND MADE US AWARE OF IT, THEN IT WOULDN’T BE BAD WOULD IT!

My group were crushed once again. Not knowing what to do. We are being pushed down the abstract route. Which is not what we wanted.

We went on search for our other tutor to get her opinion. She comes in and sits with us and our other tutor. Her words:

“Where is the other film with the girl? I really liked that one?”

ARGH!! A big debate over our work began. In the blue corner is the aggressor and in the red corner is our saviour. After 10 minutes of them arguing, I started recording them on my phone for shitz and giggles. For another 22 minutes. Neither of them won. The both agreed that we couldn’t please both of them. They both said its up to us. And now we are totally confused as for what to do. Do we do our first idea? Do we do our second idea? Do we do the third *cough* ‘idea’ (*cough* meaning that there isn’t really much of an idea) to please the blue corner. Who bloody knows. I quite liked our first idea. I quite liked our second idea. If it was up to me, I would have stuck with the first idea because I’m just stubborn like that.

How this will go, I really do not know.

Right now, I just want to go a wee (I haven’t been since this morning, so I really need to do that), get out of these clothes and put something comfy on (it was a theme for the MI group to come dressed up – I wore a skirt and high heels!! I’m usually a t- shirt and jeans kinda gal), cook some dinner (sausage pasta) and do my design project with the palindromes.

Tonight I went to see Jennifer’s Body. I wasn’t expecting to see it. I didn’t really know what it was about. And I’m a little bit confused as to whether I liked I not.

A horror written by Diablo Cody (Writer of Juno), about a college ‘it’ girl , Jennifer (Megan Fox – ya know, the girls want to be her / boys want to be with her and in this case girls want to be with her too type) who gets offered to Satan by an indie band who wants to hit the big time and wants satan to help them. However, because she is not a virgin (quote: I’m not even a backdoor-virgin anymore, thanks to Roman. By the way, that *hurts*. I couldn’t even go to flags the next day. I had to stay home and sit on a bag of frozen peas) the demon gets stuck in her, so she survives, and now has to feast on boys to keep her good looks, flowing locks and strength up. It is up to her ‘bff’ – for those who are not up to date with the ‘lingo’, it means best friend forever – (Needy) to stop her.

Ok, yes it is quite a lame plot, which is why I am in two minds about it.

It has numerous of great one liners not just like the ‘backdoor-virgin’ quote:

Needy : I thought you only murdered boys?

Jennifer: I go both ways   (Needy and Jennifer get off with each other in the film too)

Jennifer: You give me such a wetty

Jennifer: I am going… to eat your soul… and shit it out Lesnicky!

Needy: How are you going to get alcohol?

Jennifer: I’ll just play Hello Titty with the bartender.

Jennifer (after she gets stabbed): Anyone got a tampon?

And there is more which I can’t quite remember right now, but they are good.

To me, it was an enjoyable film, with some good gorey special effects, good quotes and good actresses. It just seemed that the film tried TOO hard to become, say, a cult and was basically just there for the titillation of  a teenage boy audience. Worth watching on DVD me thinks….

Denna version av Byakkotai är en remake på ett drama från 1986. Den här versionen är dock mer intressant (åtminstone för min del), främst på grund av Yamashita Tomohisa (Ikebukuro West Gate Park, Stand Up!!, Proposal Daisakusen, Long Love Letter, Kurosagi, Dragon Zakura, Nobuta wo Produce, Code Blue & SP och Buzzer Beat).

Exempel på andra skådisar, mer eller mindre synliga, i detta drama:

• Tanaka Koki, medlem i jpopgruppen KAT-TUN. Har spelat i Neverland och My Boss My Hero.
• Tochihara Rakuto hade en av huvudrollerna i RH Plus.
• Gokusen 3-stjärnan Ishiguro Hideo har också synts i Princess Princess D och 1 Pound no Fukuin.
• Yakushimaru Hiroko har spelat i Kisarazu Cat’s Eye.
• Kuroki Meisa spelade nunnan i 1 Pound no Fukuin, och har också en roll i filmerna Crows Zero I och II.

Handling: Yamashita Tomohisa spelar den slöa och upproriske Shintaro Sakai, som till sin familjs stora förtvivlan inte bryr sig ett skvatt om släktens stolta samurajhistoria. Men när han besöker Byakkotais Memorial Hall sugs han in i atmosfären av sina förfäders stordåd, och befinner sig snart några hundra år tillbaka i tiden…

Kommentar: I tron att detta skulle vara ett intressant historiskt drama (som dessutom hade Yamapi i huvudrollen) såg jag fram emot den här två avsnitt långa serien. Så här i efterhand ångrar jag att jag slösade bort 290 värdefulla minuter. Historien är tråkig och extremt långdragen, dialogen och sidospåren får ögonlocken att sakta falla mot kinden. När det väl blir lite action, blir man besviken på att allt är så jävla taffligt. När minuterna till slut har passerat, känner jag mig helt nollställd. Missade jag ett långt parti? Vad var det för stordåd de utförde? Varför är det så mycket fokus på gnällande mödrar? Jag blir arg över hur kass den är – jag hade hellre sett Princess Princess D på repeat i ett dygn.

Tetsunosuke este decis sa se alature grupui de samurai cunoscuti sub numele de Shinsengumi, pentru a razbuna moartea parintilor lui. Doar ca, pentru a face asta, trebuie sa se schimbe complet si sa devina un “demon” capabil sa ucida fara sa clipeasca.
Dar de ce cei care erau asemenea “demoni” fac tot posibilul ca Tetsunosuke sa nu ajunga asemenea lor?
Va las un fan-made trailer din galeria mea de “Requiem for a Dream“.

# Franciza D.C. ~Da Capo~ se mai imbogateste cu o serie anime. Avand in vedere ca n-am vazut decat primul sezon, ma gandesc ca trebuie sa recuperez pana la data premierei, desi inca nu-mi este clar daca va fi o continuare sau un spinoff.

# Si franciza Saiyuki se imbogateste cu un anuntat OVA pentru manga Saiyuki Gaiden. Cate episoade si data premierei sunt inca necunoscute dar va voi tine la curent cu noutatile.

#In primavara anului viitor o sa avem un film Gintama. Filmul va fi un side story pentru seria anime si va numi Gintama: Benizakura Arc — A New Retelling.

# Marvel a confirmat datele de difuzare ale celor doua serii anime realizate in colaborare cu studioul Madhouse, din seria de patru anuntate. Iron Man anime va avea premiera in luna aprilie 2010 si va fi difuzat pana in iunie, urmand ca in luna iulie sa aiba premiera Wolverine anime.
Cele doua companii planuiesc sa mai faca inca doua serii anime pe francizele Blade si X-Men.

# Si ultima, dar nu cea din urma (as zice chiar contrariul), stire se refera la adaptarea live-action pentru The Wallflower. Chiar mi se pare o super veste si ard de nerabdare sa vad care va fi distributia. Ma astept totusi la schimbari destul de mari in scenariu (obicei prost) putine fiind francizele manga/anime care n-au avut parte de asta atunci cand a venit vorba de live-action. Premiera va avea loc in luna Ianuarie a anului viitor si nu-mi ramane decat sa astept sa vad ce grup se va ocupa de subtitare.

Live Action versionen av animén med samma namn. Jag har inte sett animén tyvärr, bara hört talas om den så jag kan inte göra någon jämförelse. Dessutom är jag trött och det snöar ute så idag blir det en minirecension.

the following captured images are from a masterpiece of filmmaking, SERGEI EISENSTEINS’S - IVAN THE TERRIBLE. with a very powerful musical soundtrack composed by SERGEI PROKOFIEV, the first part was released in the soviet union in 1944, the second part in 1958. the historical epic black/white film about zsar IVAN IV of russia was planned as a trilogy, but EISENSTEIN died in 1948 before the film could be finished. tragic is additional that due to political censorship part 2 was not released until 1958. and all footage of the 3. part was confiscated after EISENSTEIN’S death and most of it destroyed. the visuals are stunning, incredible compositions and very effective use of light and shadow as you can see in the scenes below.
