Again, I am so glad to be invited to a NTV7’s live talk show – ‘Venus’ with Aishah Sinclair, who is also the host of the local most famous dance reality show – So you think you can dance.

Venus is ntv7’s latest womens’ talk show programme that aims to empower an affluent generation of Malaysian women who have high expectations for their lives.  The program offers solutions, informs and entertains the modern working mother and also the go-getter single career woman.  It is also a platform for Malaysian women to voice out opinions, share ideas and experiences.

Today’s topic is about what it takes to become a successful individual who is constantly motivated. The episode aims to inspire the viewers on achieving dreams and setting goals for oneself.

Human are born to be success. If you are upset, what’s the big deal? You are only yet to success, not you can’t success!

The WIFF presents more than 10 Buddhist themed and inspired cinema from several countries – full length movies, documentaries, animation and children’s films.

Amongst White Clouds, one of the movies to be shown at WIFF.
This 2007 film was inspired by Bill Porter’s book (better known as Red Pine), Road to Heaven. It was awarded Official Selection at various film festivals in the US and Israel.

The objective of the WIFF is to use the audio-visual media to create greater awareness of Buddhism among the general public. This is the second such event, the first held in 2006.

The film festival is spread out over two weekends, beginning from Saturday, June 14 and closing on Sunday, June 22 2008. It will be held at the Malaysia Tourism Centre, located in 109, Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, a very accessible location near the Petronas Twin Towers.

Αρκετοι ειναι αυτοι που μπορει να μην τον γνωριζουν. Προκειται για εναν ανθρωπο που το blues το ετρεχε μεσ στις φλεβες του μιας και γεννηθηκε στο Νταλας του Τεξας. Ειχε ομως ενα παραπονο: γιατι δεν γεννηθηκε μαυρος, αφου οι μαυροι ηταν αυτοι που ανακαληψαν αυτο το ειδος μουσικης που ολοι εχουμε, ειτε λιγο ειτε πολυ, λετρεψει, την blues. Αυτο ειναι ενα συντομο βιογραφικο αυτου του μεγαλου κιθαριστα που ειχε ενα αδοξο τελος (αεροπορικο δυστυχημα). Πολλοι μαλιστα λενε οτι με τον θανατο του πεθανε και η μουσικη. Εγω δεν πισταευω οτι πεθανε αλλα οτι εμεινε για λιγο στασιμη.

“Ο Stevie Ray Vaughan, συχνά αναφερόμενος και με τα αρχικά του SRV, γεννήθηκε στις 3 Οκτωβρίου 1954 στο Ντάλας του Τέξας. Θεωρείται από πολλούς υπεύθυνος για την ανανέωση του ενδιαφέροντος του κόσμου για τα μπλουζ.
Στις 3 Οκτωβρίου ή στις 25 Δεκεμβρίου του 1961 (δεν είναι ξεκάθαρο), ο Στιβ παίρνει δώρο μια κιθάρα. Ανάμεσα στα πρώτα τραγούδια που μαθαίνει είναι το Wine, wine, wine και το Thunderbird των Nightcaps. Δύο περίπου χρόνια αργότερα ο Στιβ αγοράζει τον πρώτο του δίσκο. Το Wham Of That Memphis Man του Lonnie Mack και τον παίζει τόσες πολλές φορές που ο πατέρας του τον σπάει από τα νεύρα του. Εκείνη την εποχή ο Στιβ παίρνει και την πρώτη του ηλεκτρική κιθάρα, την παλιά κιθάρα του αδελφού του Jimmie. Τρία χρόνια αργότερα, το καλοκαίρι του 1966, ο Doyle Bramhall έχει καθιερωθεί στη μουσική σκηνή του ακούει για πρώτη φορά τον SRV να παίζει. Την επόμενη χρονιά το γκρουπ του Στιβ εμφανίζεται στο Lee Park στο Ντάλας και ξεκινά να δραστηριοποιείται πέρα σχολικών εκδηλώσεων και πάρτι. Έως το 1969Όστιν και το καλοκαίρι του 1970, μετά από ένα ατύχημα σε ένα φαστ φούντ όπου εργαζόταν, παραιτείται και αφιερώνει τη ζωή του στη μουσική. Δημιουργεί το πρώτο του ουσιαστικά γκρουπ που άντεξε αρκετό καιρό, με το όνομα Blackbird με τους Stevie & Kim Davis (κιθάρες), Christian dePlicque (φωνητικά), Roddy Colonna & John Huff (τύμπανα), Noel Deis (πλήκτρα) και David Frame (μπάσο). Στις 31 Δεκεμβρίου του 1971, ο Στιβ εγκαταλείπει το σχολείο και μετακομίζει με το συγκρότημά του στο Όστιν, όπου και εμφανίζονται στο μπαρ “Rolling Hills Country Club”, αργότερα μετονομάστηκε “Soap Creek Saloon”, για τα επόμενα επτά χρόνια.
Στα τέλη του 1972, ο Στιβ συμμετέχει στο συγκρότημα Krackerjack για μερικούς μήνες όπου και παίζει με τον μελλοντικό μπασίστα των Double Trouble, Tommy Shannon για πρώτη φορά. Στις 14 Μαρτίου του 1973, ο Στιβ ενώνεται με το συγκρότημα του Marc Benno, Nightcrawlers, το οποίο εκείνο τον καιρό ηχογραφούσε για την δισκογραφική A&M Records. Το άλμπουμ όμως δεν κυκλοφορεί ποτέ. Στο συγκρότημα συμμετείχε επίσης ο Doyle Bramhall που ξεκινά μια συνεργασία 17 ετών με τον Στιβ γράφοντας του τραγούδια. Το 1974 ο Στιβ αποκτά την θρυλική φθαρμένη Stratocaster γνωστή ως “Number One” του (νούμερο ένα), την κιθάρα σήμα κατατεθέν του Στιβ για την υπόλοιπη καριέρα του. Στις 31 Δεκεμβρίου του 1974 ο Στιβ γίνεται μέλος των Paul Ray & the Cobras, ενός πολύ δημοφιλούς γκρουπ από το Όστιν και εμφανίζονται κατά μέσον όρο πέντε φορές την εβδομάδα για τα επόμενα δυόμισι περίπου χρόνια. Στις 7 Φεβρουαρίου1977 κυκλοφορούν ένα 45άρι, η πρώτη ουσιαστικά εμφάνιση του Στιβ στη δισκογραφία. (Στα 17 του είχε συμμετάσχει σε μια σχολική παραγωγή με τίτλο “A New Hi”) ενώ τον Μάρτιο την ίδιας χρονιάς οι Cobras ψηφίζονται συγκρότημα της χρονιάς στο Όστιν. Τον Σεπτέμβριο του 1977 ο Στιβ εγκαταλείπει τους Cobras για να δημιουργήσει τους Triple Threat Revue με τους: Lou Ann Barton (φωνητικά), W.C. Clark (μπάσο & φωνητικά), Mike Kindred (πλήκτρα) και Fredde Pharoah (τύμπανα). Το Μάιο της επόμενης χρονιάς οι Johnny Reno (σαξόφωνο) και Jackie Newhouse (μπάσο) ενώνονται με τον Στιβ και δημιουργούν τους Double Trouble. Το όνομα είναι εμπνευσμένο από ένα τραγούδι του Otis Rush. Το Σεπτέμβριο του ’78 ο Chris Layton προσχωρεί στις τάξεις του συγκροτήματος και στις 19 Αυγούστου 1979 συμμετέχουν σε μία από τις πρώτες εκτός συνόρων της πολιτείας του Τέξας συναυλία, στο San Francisco Blues Festival. Την επόμενη χρονιά ηχογραφούν το άλμπουμ In the Beginning, από ζωντανή τους εμφάνιση στο Steamboat 1874 στο Όστιν. Το άλμπουμ κυκλοφόρησε το 1992. Τον Ιούλιο του 1981, το συγκρότημα εμφανίζεται σε ένα φεστιβάλ έξω από το Όστιν και δημιουργείται ένα βίντεο, το οποίο ο μάνατζερ του συγκροτήματος θα δώσει στον Μικ Τζάγκερ περίπου ένα χρόνο αργότερα. Το αποτέλεσμα ήταν το συγκρότημα να εμφανιστεί ζωντανά σε ένα ιδιωτικό πάρτι των Ρόλινγκ Στόουνς, στις 22 Απριλίου του 1982. Στις 17 Ιουλίου του 1982, ο Στιβ και η παρέα του γίνονται το πρώτο συγκρότημα που εμφανίζεται στο Montreux International Jazz Festival στην Ελβετία, χωρίς δισκογραφική δουλειά ή συμβόλαιο με οποιαδήποτε δισκογραφική εταιρία. Το πλήθος αποδοκιμάζει, ειρωνικά όμως, τo γκρουπ κερδίζει Grammy για την εκτέλεση του κομματιού Texas Flood σε αυτή την εμφάνιση. Σε αυτό το φεστιβάλ ο Στιβ γνώρισε τον David Bowie και τον Jackson Browne. Το Νοέμβριο του 1982, το συγκρότημα ηχογραφεί, αυτό που αργότερα θα κυκλοφορήσει με τον τίτλο «Texas Flood», ύστερα από πρόσκληση του Jackson Browne, ενώ ταυτόχρονα ο Στιβ συμμετέχει (ηχογραφεί την κιθάρα) κατόπιν παράκλησης του David Bowie στο άλμπουμ Let’s Dance, και συμφωνεί να συνοδεύσει τον Bowie στην παγκόσμια περιοδεία του. Αποφασίζει να εγκαταλείψει τελικά, κατά τη διάρκεια των ετοιμασιών, για να ασχοληθεί με το δικό του σχήμα.
Την άνοιξη του 1983, ο διάσημος παραγωγός John Hammond ακούει μια κασέτα από ζωντανή εμφάνιση του συγκροτήματος στο Montreux International Jazz Festival του 1982 και επιτυγχάνει τη συμφωνία μεταξύ του γκρουπ και της δισκογραφικής Epic Records. Στις 13 Ιουνίου του 1983 κυκλοφορεί το πρώτο άλμπουμ του Στιβ, με τίτλο Texas Flood. Το Μάιο του 1984 κυκλοφορεί το δεύτερο στούντιο άλμπουμ με τίτλο Couldn’t Stand The Weather παίρνοντας πολύ καλές κριτικές. Την ίδια χρονιά κερδίζει δύο W.C. Handy National Blues Awards, στις κατηγορίες Καλλιτέχνη της χρονιάς και Καλύτερου Μπλουζ Μουσικού της χρονιάς και το 1985 έρχεται η σειρά του Soul to Soul, με τη συμμετοχή ενός καινούργιου μέλους, του Reese Wynans στα πλήκτρα. Τον Ιούλιο του 1986, ηχογραφώντας μια σειρά εμφανίσεων στο ‘Οστιν και το Ντάλας, κυκλοφορεί το άλμπουμ Live Alive τον Νοέμβριο της επόμενης χρονιάς. Στις 30 Σεπτεμβρίου του 1985, κατά τη διάρκεια παγκόσμιας περιοδείας, ο Στιβ καταρρέει στο Ludwigshafen της Γερμανίας από παρατεταμένη χρήση ουσιών. Ο Στιβ δίνει δύο ακόμη συναυλίες, αλλά οι τελευταίες 13 εμφανίσεις της περιοδείας ακυρώνονται και ο Στιβ μπαίνει σε πρόγραμμα αποτοξίνωσης. Ο Στιβ μένει «καθαρός» από τις 13 Οκτωβρίου μέχρι τον πρόωρο θάνατό του το 1990. Στις 6 Ιουνίου του 1989, κυκλοφορεί, κατά πολλούς το καλύτερο άλμπουμ της καριέρας του, το In Step. Η αναγνώριση έρχεται άμεσα, με την απονομή βραβείου Grammy για τον καλύτερο σύγχρονο μπλουζ δίσκο. Ο Στιβ με την μπάντα του περιοδεύουν μαζί με τους Jeff Beck και Joe Cocker. Την άνοιξη του ’90 ηχογραφεί με τον αδελφό του Τζίμι Βον τον δίσκο Family Style, που κυκλοφορεί στις 25 Σεπτεμβρίου της ίδιας χρονιάς. Στις 13 Αυγούστου όλα τα άλμπουμ του Στιβ, γίνονται «χρυσά» (500.000 πωλήσεις). Στις 26 Αυγούστου, στο Alpine Village του Γουισκόνσιν, η γνωστότερη συναυλία του Στιβ (“sold out” – 30.000 εισιτήρια), με συμμετοχές των Έρικ Κλάπτον, Μπάντι Γκάι, Τζίμι Βον και Ρόμπερτ Κρέι. Γυρνώντας από τη συναυλία στο Σικάγο, στις 27 Αυγούστου λίγο πριν τη 01:00 π.μ., το ελικόπτερο που μεταφέρει τον Στιβ πέφτει δευτερόλεπτα μετά την απογείωση, σκοτώνοντας τον ίδιο και άλλους τέσσερις επιβαίνοντες. Η έρευνα για την πτώση του ελικοπτέρου απέδωσε την ευθύνη σε λάθη του χειριστή. Στις 11 Μαΐου 1995, ο αδελφός του Τζίμι, μαζί με τους Double Trouble και την αφρόκρεμα της μπλουζ σκηνής (BB King, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, Buddy Guy, Dr. John, Art Neville, and Bonnie Raitt), δίνουν μια συναυλία προς τιμήν του. Στις 22 Φεβρουαρίου του 2000, ο Στιβ εκλέγεται για να συμπεριληφθεί στο Blues Hall Of Fame όλων των εποχών, και γίνεται ένας από τους μόλις 79 καλλιτέχνες στην λίστα.”

I am going to share with you an uplifting story about we should not let our flame of hope go out of our life. With hope, we can live in faith, love and peace.

What touches me is that, this is the first story I got from my dad, who is working oversea, via email today. I still remember the last sms I sent to him. It was a message with a deep thought, but hitting on a time 30 years later, it didn’t sound so good for our family, especially when I am the one who post that question. That was the time I know we have been trying very hard to achieve family happiness. With this story he sent to me, I know the answer is near, at least we give it a thought. It’s never too late, really.

How I wish my mom can understand this story too. I really hope she can join us to be part of the candle-of-hope family.

I wonder why people nowadays, especially youngster like to abuse the art of silence. Is silence constitutes to an acceptance, or rejection?

Here’s one of my example. My car is broken down and I would like to borrow a car from my brother. I sent him a sms:

“Hi bro, need ur help. Can I borrow ur car tomorrow? I really have no choice but 2 seek 4 your help. I will accommodate your time. Really urgent. Can u help pls?”

After 20 minutes, I got his reply:

“Well, I don’t think it is possible. It is quite inconvenient for me. First of all, I’m not sure what is your arrangement and I never be late for work. Sorry. Unable to help.”

I don’t know what makes him come to that ‘lateness’ excuse. If one is willing to help, sure we can work out a win-win situation. Knowing that it is my arrangement and the lateness that concerned him, I sent him a follow-up reply immediately:

“Hey bro. It’s easy. I can go 2 ur office n collect ur car once u reach ur office. Tell me wat time u finish work n I will come 2 fetch u. I will pay 4 d petrol. Is this ok 4 u?”

This is a perfect plan, isn’t it? But I never receive his reply after that. Don’t get me wrong. We never hold grundge on each other. We are brothers!

What makes him silent? And what does his silence means?

If he can reject me at the first place, obviously it’s not hard to reject me the second time. But he doesn’t even have the ‘guts’ to send me a second reply. Just imagine how perfect my plan is. Come on brother, silence does not constitute to an answer. According to the English Law – The golden rule of the law of contract, silence does not constitute to an acceptance. I don’t mind if you don’t help, but if a yes-no seems to be the hardest word to say, I can’t imagine how decisive you are dealing with your daily life. Please don’t abuse the art of silence.

I sent him a sms after that:

“Hi bro, how come I never get ur reply? If silence means a rejection from you, I respect your decision. No worries. It’s ok. Sorry 4 bothering u. Cheers!”

Has anyone watched the latest Transformer movie? Malaysia rated the movie ‘U’ – General viewing for all age. Singapore rated ‘PG’ – Parental guidance suggested. US rated ‘PG13′ – Parents strongly cautioned, may not suitable for children under 13. Regardless of what is the rating liked, what interests me is the middle finger in this movie.

The middle finger appears in the used car scene in which the lead actor and his dad were looking to buy a used car. The owner of the used car shop was greeted by his family member, who was sitting behind, with a middle finger. It was airbrush-censored in Malaysia, whereas Singapore, it was nothing to hide.

The creator of the middle finger must be very proud. I bet he wouldn’t have known this sign now brings a powerful impact to our culture (and movies), and even influence the way people communicate nowadays. See this:

See? The creator should deserve a prize or an award for his achievement, right?Actually what comes in my mind is that, since when this sign has gained a standard definition, and why do some countries censored it, whereas others just leave it for ‘parental guidance’? Does the ban help stop promoting the sign? Or does it really mean something?

This gesture is mostly used as a non-verbal communication of saying ‘f**k you’ globally, but its origin is quite speculative. For those who has the similar curiousity liked me, check here to know more. I learn a lot, really. Trust me; this is a good question with a good thought!

Ladies-first policy now has a new extension. In a latest shopping spot in Damansara Mutiara, female single driver has certainly deserved a privilege. To eligible yourself to park at the nearest parking row right in front of the most access entrance, all you need is: to be a female driver.

The result: The moment I took these pictures, I have seen those who took these parking lots are females, of course, but they are in groups, not single driver. After they park their vehicles, you can still see them walking in the most leisure manner, as usual, you can still hear their talkative and laughter from the desperate housewives. In the other hand, it is not surprising that some other drivers are still desperately looking for their parking.

I have been thinking of a solid reason for the above priority. I have asked my female friends why is this privilege. They said because female is the shopping king, they have more spending power, so they should be rewarded. But how come they never think of this seemingly beautiful excuse: their safety. You know when female walking alone, all the way just to look for their car. Dangerous you know?

See, I am no gender discrimination. I would like to take care of them. But just see how people abusing it. What comes in my mind is: why females, yes, females like to ‘Ladies first, please.’ when they fight for their bonuses, whereas come across issues which are not favour to them, they will say ‘You are tough man ok? You should help.’.

I thought female always want equal rights as male? Now you have it, but what’s next for you girls?

Again, my brother met an accident just now. Nothing serious, only minor clash.

What makes me writing this is, he does not know what to do, even he had a similar car accident before Chinese New Year, which is only few weeks ago.

From the experience I have got, I think this is what we should do after an accident. Yes, this is only for Malaysian, Malaysia version, not applicable to other countries, cause our scenario here is different, especially when you go to the traffic police to lodge a report. I got these tips from my Toyota Avanza booklet, but I add-on some views in suit with the uncensored Malaysia scenario. Here’s the story:

1. Keep calm.
Fact: Can you be calm really? Well, try. Don’t argue with people first, especially when you langgar people!

2. In case of injuries, call 999 for ambulance.
Fact: Usually I don’t think you will call. You will look at your car first. If you see injured people ar, then you get even more panic and think of escape. But, if you are injured, then please make call to anyone who can help. My sister met an accident last time in Bentong. She kena langgar by lorry and pengsan, but she saw some idiots who passed by with kapchai, stopped, searching her handbag and valuables in the car, instead of helping. I don’t want to mention the race of the idiots. Finally she is being sent to the hospital by a Chinese guy, at the same time, helped getting back her handbag from the idiots.

3. Note time and location of accident.
Fact: Yes, make sure your accident happened in a legal and official road. If your accident takes place in ulu-ulu place without the official road name, then your accident is not ‘official’, and you won’t get any claim from the accident.

4. Note the name, address, contact number, driver’s license number and vehicle roadtax and registration number of all parties involved.
Fact: Well, do you think people will give you the details? Before you ask for these, if people langgar u, ask them: you want to pay or not? If not, your next plan is, go to the traffic police and report. Trust me, this is the only way you can settle if people don’t want to pay and they still think they are the king. Then, get their car plate number, name, and IC. If they don’t like, go to their car and look at their displayed road tax. Copy down their road tax number. From the road tax, we will know which insurance company the owner attached to.

5. If possible, note particulars of any witnesses present.
Fact: You think people here will help you to be your witness meh? Aiyoo, I have nothing to do with your accident la, please. I don’t know, can’t see how it happened. And never, never, never involved me!

6. Obtain insurance company particulars of other driver (company name and policy number).
Fact: You won’t get it.

7. Do not move vehicle unless damage is slight or poses danger to others.
Fact: Your vehicle can only be moved with 2 reasons: Either your car tow-away by the workshop, or you drive damaged car to the police. In KL, I suggest you straight go to Jalan Bandar Police station, near Petaling Street China Town. Don’t go to the other police station. They don’t entertain accident case, you can only lodge a report. Trust me, you have to go to Jalan Bandar finally.

8. If a camera is available, take pictures of the accident scene as well as damaged vehicles.
Fact: Will you keep a camera in the car? You only bring camera when you have any party or celebration right? Use your camera phone.

9. Cooperate fully with any police officers present.
