The Turing Test — Sat, 23 May 2009 18:12:40 +0000

The Turing Test have begun a new project which they’re calling the Silent Sessions.

They begin with a set of empty tracks, record a minute of background audio from a single condensor microphone.
They let it cycle, overwriting until something interesting shows up.
They start cutting, picking out a beat here, a note there. Eventually music appears (or sometimes not).

The rules are:-
No stopping the playhead: it goes around until it’s cooked.
No instruments: the only sound source is what comes through the mic.
No post-production, when the stop button goes down, the piece is finished.

Eventually this will be a live show. Night time should be easier (it’s hard to see the monitor in daylight).
