Everyone has seen it.

Varying Pagan communities on Livejournal – my usual haunt – have sets of rules and their own definitions for their particular flavour of Paganism.  The main wiccan LJ community defines Wicca like so:

Wicca is an initiate only mystery tradition, or more precisely a priesthood, where one can trace their lineage back to the New Forest lines. Initiation is the only way into the Wicca, and is carried out by a Wicca coven, initiation into a coven requires formal training after which initiation and a system of degrees is followed. Wicca is an orthopraxic religion: it is defined by the practices of its members. Not all Wiccans necessarily believe all the same things, but they all share certain core practices.

Whereas the version of Wicca practiced by those who picked up a book and started calling themselves “Solitary Wiccans” (as I did at one time), or the more popular, widespread version spread by the more New Agey authors is described this way:

Neo-Wicca is usually wholly eclectic, however as with Wicca there are also existing traditions. Neo-wicca often learn on their own terms, from books and other sources, but may have no formal training or initiation into Wicca. The practices and ideas of Neo-wicca are generally similar to that of outer court teachings of the Wicca; however, the details can often vary greatly as it follows the new age idea of personal belief/spirituality over formal religious doctrine. The ‘neo’ in neo-Wicca refers to a new take on Wicca, it is a path that builds on what is publicly known of Wicca and adding to or subtracting from that as its practitioners see fit to do. Often neo-Wiccans describe themselves as ‘Eclectic Wiccans’, ‘Solitary Wiccans’, or ‘Wiccan’ despite the difference in faiths.

Despite these very solid lines and the information presented to back them up (note that I agree with these definitions and it was a huge kick in the ass when I first started out to see this),  there are still people that make posts to such communities with the standard, “By the way, I believe ____ is whatever I want it to be and I think anybody that says otherwise is elitist and people should just not be mean ” – usually after getting into an argument in another entry, witnessing an argument, or as part of their introduction.

Do yourselves a favour before you hit “post”: RDFUI. READ THE FUCKING USER INFO.

On top of that, read the fucking memories. Be sure to read through the fucking previous entries to get a feel for the way the community handles various topics. If you don’t like the overall attitude of the community’s users, stay out of it. Don’t post there. Move on, there are plenty of others to choose from.

Do not be surprised if such blatant “I didn’t read the user info la de da de daaaa” mosts and commentary get thoroughly ripped to shreds by regular users – and if you’re going to flounce, be creative. You may just win a Golden Flounce Award.

… but in a good way.

Candace (of Musings of a Daydreamer fame) has permitted a story of mine to take over a small portion of her blog.  I have written a vignette for her story, An Illogical Woman, hijacking her characters and bending them to my will.  The chapter titled The More Things Change was authored by yours truly.

And before anyone asks, yes, Full Circle was made to suffer this last week for that very reason.  But consider, readers of FTLOJ have been made angry by the existence of SPAT, so there’s enough story abandonment by me to go around for all.

OK, OK, I will work on Full Circle today and try to have it ready to go tomorrow (emphasis on the word “try”)  However, I must confess, I do feel a wave of food gorging induced laziness coming on.

Last night, Dori and I saw the new Twilight movie, “New Moon.”

I’d only seen the first half-hour of the first one, because Dori, who read the book, rented it. But I had to leave when one of the vampires started twinkling in the sunlight. No joke. He twinkled… like the bedazzled little turd-herder he is.

So, outside of the sparkling, I was pretty much out of the loop as to what actually happens in these films, beyond the overwhelming amount of teenagers being pretty put out by, well, everything. (There’s also a record amount of “like” and “um” in the dialogue. Pretty sure the script is just filled with those words, and no others. Maybe the screenwriter for this should hang out with the screenwriter from “Juno.” Then they can make teenagers’ heads explode.) Turns out you don’t really NEED to know what happens in the first film, because the second one is so awful, you don’t care three minutes in. Sure, it made $150 million in its first weekend or something like that, but so did Sarah Palin’s book thanks to that Darth Vader of daytime television, Oprah.

Save for some pretty great special effects when some werewolves fight– yes, the best part of a VAMPIRE film is when NON-VAMPIRES do something– this movie was bad… to a point where it could almost be one of those films we’d rent back in the day and make fun of the entire time.

I’ll stop ripping on it here, so as not to give anything away in case you are a huge fan and don’t care what my heartless, soul-less ass thinks about this supernatural love story. I’ll instead leave you with my favorite piece of dialogue. To set the scene, they’re in the woods (big shock), and something emotionally riveting is about to happen. Twinkle-pants is telling the drippy female lead he and his vampire family have to leave town. I can’t remember exactly because I was trying to count my teeth at this point… by running my tongue over each individual one slowly and carefully. But then this happens. Say it out loud for maximum effect:

Bella: Are you telling me you don’t want me to come?

Edward: (after about two minutes of them just looking at each other, stifling tears… or seizures) I don’t want you to come.

I almost passed out trying not to laugh at this. Largely because these kids would have WAY less problems if they WOULD come. But instead of getting drunk and hand-jobbing each other, like good American teens should be doing at this age, they’re worried about dumb shit, like sunlight and LiveJournal.

Oh– AND, my former arch-nemesis is in this. (Not Tom Hanks. The most recent one.)

Just thought I’d share… in case you can see this with people who will drink and laugh at it with you.

In this world the children of mad scientists are sent to a special school, called Hollow Fields, to study the art of becoming a great evil mad scientist. The school is run by Miss Weaver and her mechanical engineers. The kids take classes like grave robbing, anatomy experiments and killer robot construction. All is fun and games until Friday comes, when the lowest achieving student is sent to detention in the mysterious Windmill. This is the way it’s been for years, until Lucy Snow arrives and one “lucky” child escapes from the Windmill. Just what is Miss Weaver working on? What happens to the students who go to detention? Will Lucy survive the school year?

Favorite

I love the character designs for Miss Weaver, Miss Notch and Miss Ricketts. The robotic clockwork graphics created by Mrs. Rosca was what attracted me to this manga. Her attention to detail is fantastic. It’s also a nice twist to the school manga stoylines: a  school for mad scientist! How can you pass that up?

My favorite character is Miss Weaver. Her design is fabulous and her personality is perfect for a mad scientist school principal: impatient, cruel and ingenious. Of course, I get a kick out of having such a strong female character being in charge and bossing people around. Definitely a plus. Another thing I love about this series is that it starts and finishes in less than ten volumes. So many original American manga is left unfinished by creators or publishers that sometimes I hesitate to buy the first volume because I never know if it will continue. Other drag on in endless volumes and pretty soon your shelf is full of multiple volumes where, sincerely, there is not much plot advancement. My congratulations to Mrs. Rosca for creating and illustrating such an entertaining story. I look forward to her next series.
