Hello and welcome to this week’s room rescue.

The room chosen for a 3D makeover this week was sent in by Norman Jones from Devon. Norman was looking for ”a contemporary design but with simplicity and natural shapes. Possibly a mixture of different styles and period, but definitely no design type wallpaper coverings!  Nice artwork, but no ‘way-out’ modern art.”

Norman said: “The reason I chose Sylvia Ast’s room design was because it gave a cosy and comfortable look and was tastefully done, plus the overall warm shades and furnishings enhanced the room size as well.”

Whilst we liked Sylvia’s design, Kelly Hoppen caused a bit of controversy in the mydeco office this week by choosing a completely different winner to Norman. Below is the design Kelly picked, created by hattie08:

Kelly said: “I like this room, the shapes of the furniture work well together. The side lamp shades are slightly the wrong colour but the lamp shape is good. The lights above the fireplace are wrong and the bookcases would work much better if they ran to the ceiling. Otherwise, good proportions and a good design.”

Norman stuck to his guns, however: “This wasn’t my favourite design –  I preferred Sylvia Ast’s room because it was cosy and comfortable.  This is a bit too modern for me, I’m actually going to go for the relaxed style of some of the other designs.” Well, guess that just proves that you shouldn’t always listen to the experts!

Coming in second and third respectively were these designs by community members Ovchicha and mythreesons. Well done guys!

My flat is extremely draughty and some of the windows don’t have double glasses, which has become a real problem now that I can’t go without heating anymore. And on top of that only two of three radiators are working as they should. I sometimes wish that I would have found another apartment, but oh well. Recently, I read on AT about bubble wrapping cold windows and since I had some of it left from the move in May, I decided to have a go at it. So far I’ve wrapped the windows in the bedroom and kitchen, and it seems to work okay. At least they aren’t ice cold to touch anymore. Due to having a cat, I couldn’t wrap all four windows, but for my own sanity I guess it’s good too.

Oh wow, I’ve never seen this kind of a curtain before. If your view isn’t that great, but you want the light to come in, I’d consider this idea because it seems easy to make and there are endless options as far as the fabric goes. The only minus in the photo are the hinges; I’d paint them the same colour as the frame.
