When you hurt yourself your breath changes like when you get a shock you take a quick breath.

The harder we breath out, the louder our voice is. We can feel our throat move when we talk or sing.

It is impossible to stay underwater without a snorkel as there is no air.

Day and night , your body systems are hard at work keeping you ALIVE. Your nervous and harmonal systems control everything you do skeletal and muscuar systems enable you to move, your respiratory {breathing} system supplies you with life-giving oxygen, and circulatory system carries blood to all parts of your body.

The air travels through big tubes into narrow tubes.

Blood picks up oxegen from your lungs, then carries it around your body.

Iggy will bend over backwards for ya if you buy their reissue!

Brrrrrr….it’s getting cold out there! So I went in search of some tunes to warm ya up. It’s gonna be a long winter so let’s get started with the new & the old and a CD that is a MUST have for this season…

The Stooges – “Down On The Street” (rock)
Iggy Pop & crew in a classic favorite. If you need to add a little spice to your holiday season, go pick up the reissue of “Funhouse”. It’s rock the way it’s supposed to be!

Blackroc – “What You Do To Me” (Hip Hop/Rap)
Soulful and grinding. Picture a smoky bar with lots of velvet and neon. That’s this track.

Spoon – “Written In Reverse” (alternative)
Not my favorite Spoon track but I HAD to get it! Funky piano and somewhat silly lyrics, but for a Spoon fan, a gotta buy!

Muse – “Undisclosed Desires” (alternative)
After reading an article about this band, I thought I would return to check out their latest that was released a while back. Found this hidden gem and it’s kinda hot. Don’t know how I missed it the first time around…

Adam Lambert – “Music Again” & “Aftermath” (pop)
The first track sounds like a Queen track & the 2nd sounds like Daughtry. You figure it out.

The Good Listeners – “Square Houses” (alternative)
Light & fluffy with a steel drum thrown in there for good measure. This song shoulda been released this past summer! But it wasn’t. But it WILL make you think of wispy days and you’ll yearn for the summer heat…

Rihanna – “Te Amo” (pop)
This track is SMOKIN’ hot! I know everyone likes her dance tracks but this one is smooth and all kinds of sexy. Go get it right now!

Living Things – “Dirty Bombs” (Alternative rock)
You’ll want to grind on a partner with this bluesy fuzz-box of alt-rock. In the same vein as The Cult but with less guitar. I totally dig it!

Allison Iraheta – “Don’t Waste The Pretty” (pop)
I blasted Iraheta on her single release a few weeks ago. Her voice is just so classic and yet her producers have made her out to be a poppy, Kelly Clarkson wannabe. But if that’s what you like, her new album isn’t really that bad. Overproduced? Yes. But her voice still shines. I downloaded this track and it’s pretty good pop. Makes up for that “Friday” song…which stinks.

Lady Gaga – “So Happy I Could Die” (pop)
Oh Lady…now she’s touching herself and wrapping herself in electronica. Everyone is digging on her “Bad Romance” single, but I figured I’d be different and download something else. This particular track sounds EXACTLY like Natasha Bedingfield’s “Pocket Full Of Sunshine”. Seriously…if there aren’t lawsuits from the Bedingfield camp, there’s a problem. Club DJ’s will love it though! It’s an easy mix!

“The Proof That Lady Gaga Ain’t The Only One Making This Kind Of Music” Album of the Week: Priscilla Renea – “Jukebox”
I checked out this album and I swear, it COULD be Lady Gaga. But it isn’t. But it has piano and it’s poppy and…well…I don’t know if Renea is wearing dominatrix clothing & hanging herself in her videos, but I can’t really tell any difference. The kiddies will love it!

ALBUM OF THE WEEK: The Bravery – “Stir The Blood”
It’s a lot louder in places and the 80’s never sounded better. Doing his best Robert Smith howl in places, Bravery lead singer Sam Endicott wails and carries the discoteque sound to new heights. “Slow Poison” is the new single and is excellent. I would also recommend “Hatef**k”, “I Have Seen The Future” & “Song For Jacob”.

We did 5 different parts of the project : The Amazon river, The Rainforest, Culture and Maps, Threats to the enviroment and then we could choose our favourite animal that lived in the Amazon. Me and my partner chose 3 animals the jaguar, the cockatoo and the boa constrictor. Our teacher gave us folders to put our projects into. We went to the computer room a lot for a about one month. I think the best project was done by my best friend and her partner.

First off, I’d like to apologize for the lack of regular posts. I’ve been busy both adjusting to a new childcare schedule as well as working predominantly on existing photos as well as teaching and refining my own HDR and tonemapping skills.

To date, I’ve created several tonemapped images, some better than others but since they typically involve only one image, I’ve felt I’ve had certain limitations. I’ve since been scouting for what could possibly work out to be interesting scenes for a properly created HDR image, shooting those frames and then storing them on my computer to come back to at a later date.

Yesterday, I did it again while Elliott was in school and today, I actually had a chance to go home (forgot to mention I’m house-sitting for someone) and work on some of those images. The work I’m doing is somewhat quick and rushed and so I don’t have any specific workflow that I follow and it’s mainly trial and error at this point. However, the scene I shot yesterday that I worked on today came out best (so far) out of several scenes I shot and worked on a little.

The shot below is an HDR image of a small koi-filled fish pond. I used a small aperture (which, coincidentally, revealed in a different set of shots that my sensor is dirty again) and took bracketed shots at -2, 0 +2 EV and merged them in Photomatix. I then applied some initial adjustments and then saved to 16-bit tiff.

Following that, I imported the tiff into Photoshop CS4 where I then reloaded the image back in Photomatix via a Photoshop plug-in for the app to make some final adjustments, pulled it back into Photoshop where I converted down to 8-bit after doing some more minor exposure, contrast and filter adjustments and this is the end result.

There’s no exif data to post with this as that gets stripped in the merging process but if I go back and look at the 0 EV shot and perhaps post that just a rough guideline but bear in mind it really won’t be accurate.

Mick Boogie <del datetime="2009-09-03T15:45:09+00:00">is doing</del> did a remix project of Peter, Bjorn & John’s album Living Things entitled Re-Living Thing. It sounds like the album is <del datetime="2009-09-03T15:45:09+00:00">going to be </del>incredibly dope and it <del datetime="2009-09-03T15:45:09+00:00">is going to</del> features an all-star cast alongside Mick Boogie. This track , “Just the Past (nVMe remix)”, features Detroit heavy hitters Black Milk, T3 & Big Sean. If this track is any indication of the amplitude of this project, it’s <del datetime="2009-09-03T15:45:09+00:00">going to be </del>fucking incredible. Damn, the Commissioner has done it yet again.

For those of you who have school-age kids or who work in education, summer probably feels like a dis

For those of you who have school-age kids or who work in education, summer probably feels like a distant memory right about now. Nothing like the stench of bus diesel fumes or the frantic honking of a carpool driver to wake you rudely from your blissful California dreaming.

However, for the rest of the neighborhood, the calendar insists there’s still about a month to go before the arrival of fall. And, despite the warning signs of a few flagrant red maple leaves (or their ilk), there’s plenty of hazy, hot, and humid left in the atmosphere (at least here, in the Mid-Atlantic region) to discourage you from taking the angoras and tweeds out of mothballs.

So, this week at Scribbleskiff, we have created a playlist of 16 songs to meet the needs of both populations. Following is a collection of new music from 2009 that, depending on your worldview, will either make you weepy for those bygone, carefree days of summer — which may have ended as early as last weekend — or serve as a soundtrack to help you rock your way to the end of the season (that seemingly never ends).

Be sure to click on each of the links below to sample the songs (open each as a new tab or window), and then follow the threads to find out where you can download them. Or you can listen to the playlist in its entirety, though in a randomized order, at the Scribbleskiff page on 8tracks.com. Just click here, open as a new tab or window, and let it play as you read along. Enjoy!

“Let’s Go Surfing,” The Drums, Summertime! Here’s a recipe for reinventing beach music: Mix one part Jan & Dean with two parts New Wave (think Devo meets Joy Division), stir in a child’s hand-clapping game (chant “down by the roller-coaster”), add some catchy whistle-riffs, and, like wow, dude — instant classic!

“It Don’t Move Me,” Peter Bjorn and John, Living Thing. Speaking of whistles and hand-claps, this Swedish trio is back with a full-length follow-up to their cheery 2006 LP, Writer’s Block (which featured the bouncy, fluty “Young Folks”). The mood here is a little more jittery, underscoring the I’m-over-you lyrics, yet upbeat enough to get you dancing on beach blankets.

“Oxygen,” Living Things, Habeas Corpus. Although a relatively new band, Living Things have perfected a retro, Euro-pop feel on this track, with plenty of synths, electronic drumbeats, and angular, staccato guitar lines to satisfy the urges of anyone hungry (and tired of waiting) for the new Duran Duran LP (oops, busted).

“Farewell to the Fairground,” White Lies, To Lose My Life. Another new pop song with a curious blast-from-the-past sound (maybe it’s me), this one plucks the heartstrings for one of my all-time favorite summer records, Reach the Beach, by The Fixx. Luckily, though, I’m no longer longing for all that hair.

“My Secret Friend,” IAMX, Kingdom of Welcome Addiction. The driving, industrial-techno sounds (drum-stomps, fuzz guitars, droning vocals by indie chanteuse Imogen Heap), reminiscent of Depeche Mode (OK, it is me), create a lush, dark framework for a song that seems to be about espionage or forbidden love, or both.

“Wonderful,” Gary Go, Gary Go. It’s no surprise that iPhone-music-maker Gary Go’s songs feel derivative — this one, for instance could be an outtake from a U2 or Coldplay record. But Go has an ear for melodic, peppy dance-pop songs that sound, well, wonderful.

“Bitter Heart,” Zee Avi, Zee Avi. This breezy, soulful little number is the perfect accompaniment to one last swing in the hammock. And to make it tempting enough for a second (or third) play-through, the Malaysian-born singer, who sounds a lot like Madeleine Peyroux, adds a few twists, like a jaunty New Orleans-style trombone solo and a trapdoor ending.

“To Ohio,” The Low Anthem, Oh My God Charlie Darwin. I blame (and thank) Cowboy Junkies for giving birth to the indie alt-folk-pop scene, dominated today by the likes of Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes, and now these guys. With their lo-fi production, soft guitar picking, hushed falsetto harmonies, and sighing harmonicas, it’s like chamber music for hippies. Oh my, indeed.

“Genesis 3:23,” The Mountain Goats, The Life of the World to Come. Prolific songwriter John Darnielle (aka, The Mountain Goats) is starting to sound formulaic, but it’s a winning formula: mid-tempo beats, strumming guitars, hum-along melodies, and a homilist’s lyrics. This track has all that, plus a female co-vocalist to sooth his gruff demeanor.

“Ancestors,” Throw Me the Statue, Creaturesque. Throw Me the Statue was one of my favorite bands from 2008. And with this lead-off single from their new record, the band once again delivers an immediately and immensely likable mix of power-pop guitar hooks, acoustic and electronic sounds, wistful vocals, and summery, downbeat melodies.

“Say Please,” Monsters of Folk, Say Please (Single). If you think this song sounds like it could be either Conor Oberst, M. Ward or Jim James on vocals and guitar, you’d be right. These three so-called folk-rock superstars have teamed up to record several singles (promising a full-length soon), including this one, which could be the best song George Harrison never wrote.

“Smith Hill,” Deer Tick, Born on Flag Day. I liked War Elephant, Deer Tick’s last LP, so much that if I could have worn it out I would have. Like their namesake, this band (who wave the standard of countrified American indie rock, passed down from The Dream Syndicate and Green On Red to Wilco and Drive-By Truckers) is hard to shake, once it gets a hold of you.

“You Can Make It,” Hill Country Revue, Make a Move. And speaking of countrified — if you’re a fan of redneck rockers like The Allman Brothers or Marshall Tucker, then say howdy to this “group,” a collaboration between members of North Mississippi Allstars and Garry and Duwayne Burnside (sons of blues legend R. L.). Their recipe for Southern-fried boogie will spice up any backyard barbecue.

“Island,” Hopewell, Good Good Desperation. Although the phrase “no man is an island,” shouted in this song’s emphatic chorus, is hardly an original conceit, there’s plenty that’s unique about this band’s sound — a cross between Jane’s Addiction and The Grateful Dead (if you can believe it). It’s the ideal weapon for late-night iPod “top this!” duels.

“Take It In,” Wye Oak, The Knot. Sometimes intimate and murky, sometimes urgent and loud, this lovely, low-burning rocker (by a Baltimore-based band whose singer sounds like Karen Carpenter crooning for Sonic Youth, not the other way around) could serve as both serenade for an end-of-the-date kiss and an end-of-the-affair kiss-off anthem. It’s a mood thing, apparently.

“All You Have to Do,” Hallways, Ghosts. Both the lyrics and the lilting melody help keep the emotions in this Seattle-based duo’s country waltz balanced between hopeful tenderness and desperate longing. But it’s the swelling, keening pedal-steel guitar, which can make even the sunniest song sound sad, that ushers in the anticipated finale.

So, there you have it, a miscellany of new music to help you survive (and possibly celebrate) this special in-between time of year — let’s call it “the fall of summer.”

It is such a beautiful feeling to wake up and see thorough the window: a perfect blue sky, a perfect

It is such a beautiful feeling to wake up and see thorough the window: a perfect blue sky, a perfect summer day; it is even more beautiful when the summer has not seemed as such and the grayness of the rainy days had started to reign our moods. I smile and think about the popular saying ‘When a door closes, a window will open’, because it is true, no matter how closed that door might be and with how many locks it has been shut down, look around and you will see light coming from a tiny window nearby.

It is easy to get lost in the feeling of sadness, to see the world that surrounds you gray and cold without any hope, feeling that you will drawn in the sea of uncertainty without any hope of being rescued. This was my week and it has been a constant is my life for the last months, feeling that no matter what I do or where I go, there is a huger hammer on the sky hitting my head every time I try to peak up and reach for air. The feeling is terrible, the weight on the shoulders seems heavier and unbearable every day and you start to feel like in any moment your legs will just give up and surrender or you will just run away of everything. Then comes the feeling of being helpless, when you look around and find no one there to help you with the big issues or even with the little ones, so you feel not only alone, but without hope.

So then one day, I stopped and asked myself ‘And why am I looking for someone else to solve this, this my issue to solve!’ and it is true. Taking the advise of performing a self evaluation, being with myself and exposing me to me I came to realize that the solution was in my hands. I have decided so far the way I wanted to live my life, where I wanted to lead my life and how I was going to make it happen. Some choices smart, some choices not so smart, but then I looked around me and I said to myself ‘If I would to live again, I would live the exact same life’. And I aw a crack and some light started to come inside. Of course I did not immediately feel shiny and perfect, wanting to conquer the day, bu it was a start; I realized that if no one knew my pains it was because I do not share them, if I had no one to help with small tasks it was because I did chose to delay this and if my life was hitting a rough moment, I just had to calm down, evaluate and follow a plan to get it back on track again. Understanding that it was me who decided, influenced and guided made me realize that only by becoming aware of myself I was to be able to at least control the influence and consequence of things in my life. I realized that my emotions have ruled how I live in many ways, allowing them to keep me up at night without rest and also allowing them to make me feel like every day is a rainy day. Yes my emotions are strong and real but there is a limit to where they can affect me and the relationship I have with the world; and there is also a limit of how they will affect my decisions and my life.

I am still in this process, grasping this knowledge and bringing it to my every day life. Every time an emotion arises from within me I acknowledge and suppress the instinct of reaction. I breathe since I have understood that breathing is the most important action of the human body and it is where we can release and relax allowing ourselves to be aware and to understand. I do not suppress, I understand and I make my mind play a role in the relief of the burning sensation of my chest and slowly calm down the fire. It is a work in progress but the window has opened and I can see the day outside.

And now I will go out and embrace it.. and breathe it all in!

Stay tuned!
