General Motors announced on Friday that it has repaid Germany on a $2.2 billion loan the company received in June to keep its Opel brand afloat. GM says it has already paid back a previous loan of $300 million.

Germany extended bridge loans to General Motors during its 39-day bankruptcy to keep its German Opel brand up and running, but demanded the Detroit automaker repay the loans following Opel’s failed sale to Canada’s Magna International.

“We now have an outstanding balance of 400 million euros, which we expect to pay back by November 30,” said Enrico Digirolamo, GM Europe chief financial officer, in a statement.

The German government vowed another 4.5 billion euro to aid Opel’s turnaround, but that loan is now in doubt as Germany distances itself from funding U.S. government-owned General Motors. GM chairman Ed Whitacre says the company has no intentions of asking the German government for additional loans.

However, GM is hopeful that other European governments will help fund Opel’s turnaround plan. If no European governments step up, GM could be forced to rescue Opel with U.S. taxpayer dollars.

He said we shouldn’t worry whether people will laugh or not; for people will always laugh at people. The trick is the more people you share the problem with, the more lighter the burden is on you. La mayoría de los fans antiguos de la banda, opinan que está se vendió por dejar de hacer thrash metal (su género inicial) para comercializarse. Muchos de los fans nuevos comenzaron escuchando la banda por discos como “Load” “Reload” “St. Anger” o el famoso “Black album“.

Metallica: ¿Paso a ser una banda comercial?

Para mi Metallica siempre fue una banda comercial, si no lo fuera, no hubiera sacado sus discos a la venta. Si hicieron música y publicaron sus discos, lo hicieron para vender, porque si quisieran hacer música “por amor al arte” no publicarían sus discos en venta.

Ahora, pónganse en su lugar. Si a ustedes les darían la posibilidad de ganar más dinero cambiando su estilo de música para que le llegue mas a la gente. ¿Qué harían?, no creo que digan que no tan fácilmente.

Las bandas no viven de sus fans, viven del dinero que les traen. Y ese modelo de banda de metal que da todo por sus fans y no le importa el dinero, no existe.

No estoy defendiendo a Metallica, y a pesar de que yo también soy un fan que no le gusto muchas de las cosas que hicieron, los entiendo.

Antes y después…

Algunos dicen que Metallica murió en “…And justice for all“, otros dicen que murió en el “Black album“.

En mi opinión, los primeros 4 discos de Metallica fueron excelentes, luego llego el “Black album” y también, me pareció un excelente disco, pero distinto a los demás.

Luego cayeron una ola de discos que no parecía que fuese Metallica, pero en fin, puedo escuchar una canción de “Load” o “Reload” sin pensar “¡Que ~#@|@ es esto!“, a pesar de que no era eso lo que queríamos, no podemos decir que es malo!.

El “St. Anger” no me gusto para nada y me parece que musicalmente es muy malo, puro ruido (en mi opinión).

Por último vino el “Death Magnetic” que a mi parecer, es thrash y el mejor álbum después del “Black Album“. ¿Habrá sido un intento por recuperar los fans viejos perdidos? Tal vez.

Lo cierto es que Metallica me sigue gustando y los primeros discos que sacaron siguen estando y los podemos seguir escuchando.

Nadie nos obliga a escuchar el “St. Anger“, aunque entiendo la decepción de los demás fans.

En este post voy a explicar, como cambiar la imagen de carga de nuestro Ubuntu, llamada correctamente  USplash, para q no aya confusiones, todas las pruebas las hice en, Kubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala, bueno manos a la obra:

Primero vamos a necesitar recopilar un poco de cosas, lo primero q van a necesitar, es el Script q pueden descargar dando clic en ¨usplashtest.sh¨, lamentablemente la pagina no me permita subir el archivo en este formato así q cuando lo descargen van a tener un documento de nombre usplashtest.odt lo único q tienen q hacer es cambiar el nombre a usplashtest.sh no olviden borrar el ¨.odt¨,  este documento nos permitirá probar la pantalla sin tener q reiniciar el equipo, mas adelante explico como.

Segundo necesitamos el programa startupmanager y una librería de compilación para instalarlos  en una consola usamos el comando:

sudo apt-get install startupmanager libusplash-dev

Por ultimo necesitamos descargar USplash de http://www.gnome-look.org/ o de http://kde-look.org/ les recomiendo seriamente q sean archivos del tipo source es decir sin compilar, de esta forma, es mucho menos probable q tengamos algún error, les dejo aqui un link a uno q yo mismo probé, el cual usaremos como ejemplo.

Ahora vamos a compilar el archivo descargado para generar un documento del tipo *.so, para esto seguiremos los siguientes pasos:

• Descargamos el archivo comprimido de la Source, sera del tipo ¨tar.gz, o rar, o zip¨
• Descomprimimos este documento y entramos y entramos a la carpeta resultante
• Debemos asegurarnos q exista un documento Makefile.
• Ahora vamos usando la consola, al lugar donde se encuentre este archivo usando el comando ¨cd¨ y la dirección correspondiente, en mi caso es:

cd /home/usuario/descargas/tema1/

tengan en claro q no va  a el mismo para ustedes.

• Ahora debemos compilar usando el comando:

sudo make

• Eso habrá generado en la carpeta un archivo del formato *.so, por ejemplo ¨tema1.so¨
• Echo eso, en una consola escribimos:

sudo startupmanager

• Se abrirá una pantalla del programa q instalamos previamente, seleccionamos la pestaña ¨aspecto¨ debería verse igual a esto

-> Damos clic en el botón ¨Administrar temas Usplash¨ y navegamos hasta el archivo *.os q habíamos creado lo seleccionamos y agregamos.

-> Luego en la lista desplegable seleccionamos el nuevo tema, cerramos el startupmanger.

• Con esto la imagen ya debio haber cambiado, pero para confirmarlo, copiamos el script q descargaron a su carpeta personal, y en una consola escribimos:

Alerta este script es experimental y por lo mismo, puede dar un poco de problemas es mejor grabar todos los documentos importantes.

Si salen solo letras, es porq el tema fue mal compilado, el source estaba corrupto, o porq modificaron algo sin respetar la gama de colores, si es el caso, no hay forma de regresar al escritorio, deberán reiniciar la maquina.

…Yes, it is that time of the year again. I am not big on Christmas, but I love the happy memories from my childhood. I am old enough to remember a childhood without a proper bathroom. On the evening December 23 it was time for baths. As the youngest one I was first to go.  The kitchen was warm and the fire was burning. Even as a little girl you could feel the stress from the adults.  In the middle of the buzz of Christmas preparation, I was the first one to crawl into this:

After the bath it was bedtime. Trying to sleep with all the butterflies in my stomach. The anticipation of the gifts Santa would bring in the evening December 24. Downstairs they were busy getting ready for the celebrations. There were few traces of Christmas when I went to bed. The tree and the decorations were put out on display after our bedtime. Then it was time for the adults to have their bath. I had no idea at the time – but I guess that was an enjoyable affair…Waking up in the morning – and it was Christmas. Never understood how my mother did that.

I may not be big on Christmas but I love the month of December and I try my very best to be ready for Christmas before December 1. As I see it I have two choices; Be ready by December 1 or skip the whole thing. It works well both ways.

This year I am joining Aby Garvey at Simplify 101 and her class Get Organized for the Holidays. I can`t think of a more enjoyable company getting ready for Christmas. Her skillful guidance and the supportive community on the board will make the road towards Christmas peaceful and fun. I have been printing the digital layouts I made during the Load Challenge. When you are about to print the layout you can see all the things you should have done differently and you see all the mistakes. How easy it would have been to be able to go back and change this before printing if I have had the PSD file. I did have a few and that made printing so much easier. I could chose how I would like to print. Bits and pieces or the whole layout.

At least I feel good about having all 30 layouts printed and ready for albums.

We are almost at the end of October. Here is the second last layout for the Load Challenge:

All my layouts printed. One layout left to do. Almost finished cleaning the house. Up to date with the laundry. Yes – I would say October has been a good month. And I have the weekend off – for the first time in 2009. What more can a girl want?

But, first I have to work the Friday evening shift. I can do that!

The only Throne this King  should be sitting on, is this one.                        

That’s about the right proportions!

If he loses the Election, I will personally buy him his very own Monogrammed Throne!
