Yesterday, was Destination NV at my school. Every year, kids who are graduating from grade 8/9 (depending on the school) and are thinking of going to NV for their high school career, would go to NV with their teachers and then get shown around the school by volunteer tour guides, and informed on a bunch of different courses and programs that NV has. So this year, like last year, I volunteered as a tour guide, and was able to get my middle school as the group I would tour. Being a tour guide, or even any part of Destination NV, you get a free pizza lunch and drinks, and in the end of it all, you get voluteer hours. They used to give out cookies to both the visiting students and the tour guides, but this year, it was just to the visiting students…*sad* the school’s cookies are like the god of cookies! They taste absolutely AMAZING~

Hehee.. okay back to the point… I was able to see my favourite teacher (EVER!!!) and one of my grade eight teachers who was a pretty cool guy. I also got to see some of my friends siblings, and my friends Justin, and a few people who weren’t near the friends catagory… for one, there was a guy that’s my friend’s brother. He’s two years younger than me, and yet he was able to make-fun of me and my friends. Sad. I was bullied by a kid who’s two years younger than me and like five inches shorter… > _ <

In the end, Destination NV was really fun. I heard a lot of stories about my middles school from my old teachers, and my friend Justin, and I even got some cookie~~^^ the things you get from knowing people~

After the awesomeness of Destination NV, I had to go to the doctors and get my H1N1 flu shot. It was fine when the shot was done, but then, hours later, it felt like bricks had been thrown at my shoulder, and I couldn’t move my hand right… I also think the shot either made me WAY more emotional than usual, or I was just shedding none stop tears for no reason. Odd… Plus, today when I woke up, the pain was even worse, but I think it was from both a huge impact to my shoulder from someone running yesterday, plus the shot in the shoulder area that resulted in such pain. I mean, it’s hard to move my shoulder, but I can at least move my hands now… improvement~

Lastly~~ I successfully got a 91.7% on a math quiz. When I saw it, my jaw dropped. My standards had quickly fallen after all those sixties. *still shocked!*

Currently: Doing my math homework, and typing out my history thesis, at alternate times of course… hmm… how much easier life would be if you had like six arms to do different tasks…

The security door at the front of [Oliver's] building uses an intercom system to let in guests remotely. Each unit has an intercom handset with a button that unlocks the door. [Oliver] wanted a way to enter without carrying any extra items so he built a system to unlock the door with his cell phone.

He patched into the intercom and attached a GSM module. The module runs python so he wrote a script that will monitor the entryway buzzer, then wait for an approved cell phone connection to unlock it. He went through a couple of different iterations for the final project. The first attempt used XBee modules to communicate between the intercom handset and the GSM module. For the final version, he snaked cable through his wall using rare-earth magnets (creative!) in order to forgo the use of a battery in the handset.

Who doesn’t carry a cell phone with them?  Because of this, the use of GSM modules in automation is a trend we think will continue to gain popularity.

Statement from ESB regarding River Shannon as at 9:20am, Thursday 26th November 2009

Water levels rose again last night in Lough Derg and are at a record high. As a result, discharge levels must be increased today at Parteen Weir. ESB will be increasing the discharge incrementally over the morning by up to 8% on the existing flow. The development is expected to cause increased flood levels downstream of Parteen Weir by an estimated three inches over the current level. A slight fall in water levels was detected downstream this morning in a number of locations. [...]

The complex at Ellesmere Port is vast, so it’s difficult to provide an all encompassing scene to give you a real overview of the place. However, whilst this picture is just a portion of what’s on offer, it does show a number of the key elements which shows you why this is such a good place for a canal museum.

• Basin areas and moorings
• Lots of brightly painted boats
• Typical canal art
• Working boats and lots more requiring restoration and depicting a good cross-section of the kind of boats which worked the canals

If you watched the video before reading the article (like we did) and started shaking in your boots at a voice controlled lock system, prepare to be disappointed. His spoken commands are actually to his son to press the appropriate keys on a keypad off screen, the lock is not actually voice controlled.

But still, [Michael Krumpus'] door lock is pretty astounding. By using a torn apart CD drive he easily attains a nice fast and smooth linear motion to bolt and unbolt his door. It wont open his door like some locks we’ve seen, but it will probably be added sometime in the future…right alongside voice commands.

I used to think that I would never interlock for two reasons: (1) I thought it took much time (2) I was native to only palm-rolling. It appeared interesting and tempting at the same time. Why? Because you didn’t have to worry about your locs unraveling at the root….or at all, for that matter. However, I did not want to worry about the texture of my locs changing or run the risk having little bumpy knots from inaccurately interlocking. So why the change of heart you ask? Well, I shall tell you why (very short story, actually). One afternoon, I was riding back from another county with a couple of coworkers. While they were yacking on their phones, the slightly irritable-from-hunger My4tress needed something to dwindle time away while she waited for the stoplight to change for the turning lane in 5 o’clock traffic (instead of twiddling my thumbs).  I subconsciously started playing with my locs of course. Next thing you know, I was weaving the root (interlocking) the back locs. They’re usually the ones to unravel at the root much quicker than the rest of my locs. As I felt for what I’ve done, I realized that I did it pretty well; no lumpy knots. I rolled the loc in one direction to see how it would’ve looked/felt if I palm-rolled the interlocked part later. No difference. Hmm! I was quite pleased. So I learned that if you do not interlock too tightly and not in the same direction, you have a nice result that will not change even if you palm roll later. You want to interlock as closely as possible to the already locked part of your locs. However, if you did it incorrectly, you will end of with:

(1) separated roots

(2) if palm-rolled, a twisted part

(3) a hole in the middle of your loc.  (I put a q-tip inside of the hole so you could identify it easier.)

FYI: Interlocking becomes addictive when your hands are idle or if you don’t have nothing to do (lol) and doesn’t take as long as you think.

Next thing you know, all of my locs have been interlocked. So, I washed my hair just last week expected to roll some roots, when I looked at the mirror and barely saw any puffiness (a sign of a root(s) needing retwisting). That saved me a lot of time.

(I’m going to try to do a vid on interlocking; however, letting you know now that I’m not an expert interlocker, lol.)

Lembro que quando comecei a estudar para o exame, comentei com um amigo e ele disse: “Raphael, as questões de thread são muito dificeis, se garante nas demais”. Fiquei com isso na cabeça, meio que contrariado. Estudei o livro da Katy Serra, e vi nada demais, tirando a decoreba braba, porém o conceito de thread e sincronismo é um paradigma externo a linguagem.

Enfim, fiz um mapeamento do que o exame “gosta que caia”. Vamos lá:

• Uma thread só pode ser startada uma vez. Caso ocorra uma segunda tentativa de start da mesma thread ocorrerá um IllegalThreadStateException
• Os métodos sleep e yield são estáticos. Atuam em cima da thread corrente (em sistemas monoprocessados apenas uma thread ganhará a cpu por vez).
• Os métodos wait, sleep e join movem a thread do estado running para o estado blocked/waiting. E por isso todos os três lançam InterruptedException , caso sejam interrompidos.Logo ao chamá-los é necessário tratá-los com try/catch.
• Sleep é usado para dar um delay na execução da thread corrente. A thread não libera o bloqueio ao objeto quando está dormindo.
• Yield tenta escalonar para running outra thread de mesma prioridade que a corrente. A thread anterior volta para runnable. Não a nenhuma garantia que a thread eleita não seja a mesma thread que já estava rodando, ou outra específica.
• Quando uma thread chama o método join lê-se assim: b.join();  ”Eu (thread corrente) quero me unir ao fim da thread b, quando b terminar ou expirar eu volto para runnable.
• join() espera até a thread morrer . join (long miliseconds) timeout é setado, ou espera até morrer ou expira por timeout.
• palavra-chave synchronized só pode ser usada com métodos e blocos, não pode ser usada em classes ou variáveis.
• Métodos statics podem ser synchronized o bloqueio será feito na própria classe (java.lang.Class).
• Enquanto apenas uma thread pode acessar um método ou bloco synchronized por vez, várias thread podem acessar um método da mesma classe caso ele não seja synchronized.
• Os bloqueios são realizados por objeto. Logo num bloco syncronized vc deve passar um objeto, nunca primitivo.
• synchronized (this){} equivalente a public void syncronized method(){}
• Construtores não podem levar a palavra syncronized. Mas nada impede que tenha um bloco synchronized dentro deles.
• wait(), notify() e notifyAll(), devem ser chamados de dentro de contexto syncronized.
• notify notifica a primeira thread da fila de waiting, para ser liberada.
• notifyAll notifica todas as thread da fila de waiting
• um objeto ao chamar waiting, a thread que o disparou liberará seu lock para que outra thread possa entrar no contexto.

Here is a page about the upper end of the old Limerick Navigation, with photos of the Ardnacrusha headrace, Castleconnell and its weir and quay, O’Briensbridge, Errina bridge and Doonass. There are photos taken over the last few days and older photos, showing normal (post-Ardnacrusha) levels at the same locations. The recent photos do at least give a hint of the levels that the pre-Ardnacrusha waterway coped with.

At time of writing, the ESB says it is going to release more water down the river to O’Briensbridge, Castleconnell and Limerick.

Photos of the lower stretches (Plassey, Corbally, the canal harbour and the Abbey River) will be posted later (floods permitting).

Il y a quelques temps, Saurik le créateur de Cydia a créé un nouveau tweak pour les iPhone jailbreakés. Il s’agit de Cydget !!
Cydget permet de faire plusieurs choses mais directement du Lockscreen.
Il suffit d’installer ce tweak puis d’installer des Addons comme:
- CyDialer qui permet d’appeler directement depuis le Lockscreen sans passer par l’application téléphone.
- HTC Cydget qui lui permet de voir l’heure sur son Lockscreen sous le design du téléphone HTC

Photos of Killaloe in flood are now up. They were taken on the morning of 22 November 2009.

Saint Petersburg, most of the entries still keep the old buzzers in doors. They seem from many years ago, without brand and signature. To help guests find out which buzzer is, each block has a signal that shows you how apartments are distributed. In the below picture, the signal means ..2st floor, apartments from 1 to 4; 3th floor apartments from 5 to 8, etc…

But most of the old buzzers have been recently replaced by a modern intercom. As lock an electromagnetic lock.
