Woah at Minzy’s dance. She is like my new female dance role model. I swear. Damn good popping.

But I’m still more interested in locking than popping. Heh. I’m like almost the complete oppposite of what Ally Pee likes. She likes the soulful, popping side. I like the bboy and locking ones. Exactly what she detests. BUT I REALLY LOVE BGIRL-ING! I swear! I mean, if you know me since like what? Secondary 3? I was so keen on doing bgirling. But up till now, I’m still not able to get enough courage to stay up on a handstand for long. =/

But today’s dance camp is awesome ‘cos there were a lot more bonding and a lot more dancing. Popping isn’t really my kind of thing ‘cos I can’t seem to control my muscles well enough to pop. =( I really need to work on that since Justis is really fond of popping and Minzy can like freaking pop so well? BUT BGIRL TODAY IS THE MOST AWSM THING!! We over shot by what? 2 hours? So we technically had like 4 hours of bgirling. It’s so much that towards the end, I totally felt my arms numb. Okay not really numb but more of nua. Very weak. But I managed to learn baby freeze on the left side (I’m a right hander) and shoulder freeze and I learnt how to recover from both freezes the seh way. SUPA PROUD OF MYSELF!! I’m so going to master the going up the seh way. But that’s going to require a lot of body strength and confidence from me. BUT I’M STILL GOING TO DO IT! (Note to self: Short-term goal before doing handstand)

Anyway, I have a lot of pictures from today’s events. But I’m too lazy and tired to edit them before posting them up. Plus, I have scandalous pictures of a closet drag-queen from D’MVMT! I kind of promised him not to disclose them on the internet. At least private them. The D’MVMT’s next top model is quite a success ‘cos role-playing and dressing up is always fun. Haha. We had a lot of hidden gems within D’MVMT. Shall update with everything when I’m done with the pictures and less tired. Heh.

But I think the best thing that happened to D’MVMT today was still the mingling of seniors and juniors during dinner at Kallang’s McDonald’s. I kind of warmed up to the juniors at my table rather fast even though I’m with Mich only and there were a lot of others. Haha. Many many different kinds of gossips and conversations. I was actually feeling bonded. It’s good ‘cos I’m happy to know more people and they will be our future leaders for D’MVMT! HAHAHA! Need to get to know them! One more year of bonding before we leave the school so we better make full use of all the time we have to bond with them. ^^ Looking looking forward!

K I think I should go to bed now. Otherwise, I won’t be able to wake up in time for D’MVMT 2009 batch’s Teo Heng session tomorrow. ^^

Empezó a bailar debido a una lesión que sufrió jugando al fútbol. Esther comenta:”Mientras practicaba mi deporte favorito me lesioné la rodilla y estuve un año recuperándome sin hacer absolutamente nada, fue en ese momento cuando descubrí el hip – hop, y no he parado desde entonces”.

Esta breaker catalana sueña con bailar el resto de su vida. Quiere dedicar todo su tiempo a estar encima de un escenario y montar sus propias coreografías. La gusta mucho la danza, y no se imagina haciendo otra cosa que no sea bailar.

Se autodefine como una chica exigente, luchadora y muy constante. Es perseverante y todo lo que se propone, lo consigue.

The Future Funk Alliance would like to congratulate Gino & Denise Vaccaro on the completion of their new studio. The new home of The Future Dance Center looks great.  It has three large rooms to dance in and flat screens all along the waiting room.

They started things off right with a great Grand Opening party.  There was plenty of dancing and plenty of food at the party.  It was great to see everyone enjoying themselves in the new studio.  A few of us were even getting down in some of the new rooms.  I mean who could resist those brand new wood floors?

Not only does this mark the beginning of a new Future Dance Studio but it is also the beginning of the Future Funk Alliance. The Future Funk Alliance will be using the NEWLY started Groove Night (Tuesday 7PM-9:45PM) as a practice location. Not only will the new studio be used as a practice location but we will be using the open practice as a place to recruit new members and as a home base.  We look forward to dancing and spreading our knowledge about dancing to the rest of the community.

I’m blogging right as I’m listening to all the laggy and hanging gunshots from my sister’s computer who is behind me playing my Left 4 Dead with my hard disk drive. =/ I kind of got her addicted to it as well. LOL got her to try out Death Toll instead of the usual No Mercy she has been playing. But she keeps getting lost LAWL so I keep having to direct her. haha. Hoping to be able to sneak her out then to bring her to a lan shop to play L4D with cousins or something. That’ll be cool. Except, she’s really irriating or getting on my nerves on time. BUT SHE IS SOMEONE WHO PREFERS PISTOL TO THE NORMAL BETTER GUNS.

Okay, nevermind… Just have the thought. I WANNA DANCE SOON!! I haven’t been dancing in a long long time and I can somewhat feel myself dying or fading away! =( Maybe I’ll go try out Fredy’s classes at O School with Veronica and Cheryl. Since I don’t think I’m ready to do an intermediate with Ally. I need to warm up LOL. I really wanna dance! Like seriously!! Okay. I’m really really really hoping to master handstands by this holiday. But chances are nevertheless very very slim ‘cos I haven’t found the guts to do it. But I really wanna do an invert!! ^^ Then I’m damn shen wahahaha! Okay. Wait till I succeed first. Oh and I wanna do popping and locking like the BBT boys! 虎牙 and 小禄! I should learn popping from Pingteck? But wth. That’s so weird right? I wanna learn Waackin’ soonish too! Ah, we’ll see how it goes. I’m tired. I’m going to sleep soonish. Tomorrow Project Work in school at 1030am. woo~! let’s get it done. I wanna improve. I have to improve. I’m going to be comfortable and confident without a script. ^^

1. Boston – They are not only beating their opponents but really giving them something to think about.
2. Phoenix – what a surprise… I will put my foot in mouth…they are really coming. They started with weak teams…but that win over the first team…impressed me. Nash has been showing alot of team leader ship, so i believe that this is the real Phoenix.
3. Denver – Unlike phoenix am not really surprised…and they only lost to the number 4 team on this ranking.
4. Miami – another foot in my mouth, they really are showing up so far.
5. Orlando – Bad offense in the loss to Detroit but otherwise…they are still good.
6. Lakers – For some reason I should feel bad putting them this low even though they don’t have their big men, but hey, am more impressed with other teams.
7. Houston – Well here is one Houston without a problem…with losses to Portland and Lakers…without Yao…they will be fine
8. Dallas – I guess Marion didn’t destroy the chemistry…good job.
9. Atlanta – I thought Jamal Crawford would be a great pick up for Atlanta and guess what…I was right.
10. Portland – Portland has to show more than a 3-3 record because, they have been an upcoming team for like 20 years now…but on the bright side…their loss are close losses. >5 points If I am right.
11. Chicago – I know it’s the beginning of the season but I still stand by the fact I said if they ride their run in playoffs they would be good.
12. San Antonio – I am a bit biased on this one…they haven’t been playing the best, but not bad either.
13. Clevland – I am kinda disappointed, am sure you are to… but it’s a work in progress, shaq and lebron needs some balance and shaq and ilgasqus shouldn’t play together.
14. Utah – another guilty position…they had a hard start…but it’s no excuse…beat the best to beat the best.
15. Charlotte – they are without a key player diaw.. but they are still holding there own.
16. Toronto – they beat clevland and they thought they were the shit…then lost to Memphis…ouch!
17. New Orleans – as my second favorite team, I am saddened that they started kind of horribly…

I don’t really want to rank the other teams… I think it’s too early to rank them because they are all bad except one. That is why I am ranking this last team 20^th…No guys, not the knicks…it’s their cross-town rivals the NETS.

Spiritual Conexión Dance Crew, nace el año 2006 como una agrupación de alumnos del taller de Streetdance en la Asociación Cristiana de Jóvenes de Iquique a cargo del bailarín (hip hop) y estudiante de educación física (unap) Jonathan Alvarez (N-soul).

Nuestra agrupación ha representado a la cultura hip hop en diferentes actividades a nivel regional y nacional, entre ellas el certamen Latino America Danza 2008 en donde se obtuvo el 3º lugar en la categoría streetdance Juvenil 3.

Actualmente nuestra agrupación participa de las actividades del centro social y cultural Academia de Danza Deja-vú. En donde se han organizado diferentes actividades relacionadas con el Hip Hop dance, entre ellas el seminario de Street Dance impartido por el bailarín y coreógrafo internacional Mariano Capona en abril del 2009. Además de participar en la creación de video clips y conciertos  de artistas de la música hip hop local como “SIDE 2 SIDE”

Nuestro director y coreógrafo, Sr. Jonathan Alvarez se ha destacado en diferentes actividades culturales como bailarín y coreógrafo destacando su participación en obras como “Circo Océano 100 años de Historia” (Cia. circo teatro En la cuerda), “Pecados Capitales” (Cia. Deja-Vú), Breakxistencia (Campeonato Internacional de Breakdance Iquique), Además del constante perfeccionamiento de las técnicas del streetdance y hip hop, participando de diferentes seminarios entre ellos Seminario de Mariano Capona (Iquique), Seminario de StreetDance SUGA POP (santiago).

En la Actualidad, Spiritual Conexión Dance Crew esta  conformado un equipo de 3 bailarines, Carolina Gutiérrez Ríos, Constanza Paz Guzmán y Jonathan Álvarez. Primeros y Únicos representantes de la Danza Hip Hop en Iquique.

Gasper Crew fué creado a fines del año 2008, con el fin de experimentar movimientos relacionados con las energías (fantasmas). Para poder interpretar estos personajes se lleva acabo un estudio del tema y nos internamos en un mundo no muy conocido y así plantear nuestro punto de vista utilizando herramientas del Hip-Hop , Break dance, Popping, beats etc. También para fortalecer la puesta en escena utilizamos la comunicación audiovisual para potencial el guión y así darle al espectador un espectáculo multimedial,

Dentro del poco tiempo que lleva de trabajo este grupo a logrado destacarse en diversos escenarios como: Beat Dance, Gala 25 años del Hip-Hop “ Sudaka”, Encuentro Latinoamérica Danza Chile, Tvn Programa Calle 7 Chile, Gala Final año LC Danza.

Poder Latino se formo el año 1999 el cual fue conformando por 3 amigos Rony tapia, Héctor Díaz, Alejandro Ramírez.
Nuestros comienzos solo fueron practicando popping luego incorporamos los estilos  jazz y funk.

Nuestras primeras presentaciones fueron en discotheques y luego de 2 años organizamos un casting para convocar a personas con los mismos intereses en cuanto la cultura hip hop  en música y estilos de baile.

A los 4 años de la formación incomporaramos  estilo looking, hip-hop, new style, up rock.

Hoy en día nuestro grupo se conforma por mas de 25 personas, 2 mujeres y 23 hombres, hemos crecido mucho como grupo y en conocimiento en cuanto a los estilos que está dentro del streetdance.

Steps Crew es un grupo y academia de danza urbana compuesta por bailarines con basta experiencia en el medio, tanto nacional como internacional. Estamos interesados en acercar el baile a jóvenes principiantes como experimentados, conviertiéndolo en una experiencia emocionante y enriquecedora y a la vez entregando herramientas para que esto se masifique aún mas en nuestro país.
Llevamos ya dos años y medio de vida entregando nuestro arte con muchas satisfacciones y logros, estamos pocisionados dentro de los mejores grupo de hip hop del país logrando primeros lugares en torneos latinoamericanos y competencias de otra indole.

Pasfreestyle comienza con la Fusión de “Kathyram’C” y “Pasdek” en la Comuna de Quilicura en el año 2008. Creando Juntos la Fusión “KADEK”.
Imponiendo Stylo principalmente en Discoteques de Santiago. Descubriendo al 3 Integrante “Dredes” con el cual comenzamos a practicar “PasDancehall” stylo de baile proveniente de las Islas de Madinina (Situada entre Dominica y Santa lucia en el Centro del Archipiélago del Caribe). Nombre que dio Origen a PASFREESTYLE pioneros en CHILE. Luego de aprender el Stylo Pasdancehall y fusionar con otros estilos Hip Hop, break, newstyle, Afro, Dancehall. Decidimos integrar al 4° Integrante “Danipas” con su Stylo “Capoeira”  y nuestros dos pequeños “Nico y Nacho” Freestyle.
Creando así un Show de Estilos variados al ritmo de la música hip hop, dancehall y funk, con el objetivo de motivar a nuestra juventud por un camino más sano.
De ésta forma hemos sido invitados a participar en distintos escenarios de Santiago: Jammin Club, Beat Dance, Conace – Quilicura, Burdem Babilon, Boomer, Teatro Caupolican teloneando a “The Original Wailers, Natural Vibes, Living Pub, Concierto Kafu Banton 2009.
Pasdek es el fundador del grupo es un bailarín callejero representante de la Cultura Urbana desde la década de los 1990.

Femme Beat es un grupo de hip hop dance de la ciudad de La Serena, integrado solo por mujeres desde los 13 a los 26 años, cada una tiene un promedio de 10 años en la danza. Las unió su pasión por el Hip Hop. Sus inicios fueron el 2007 y se consagraron como grupo a fines del 2008. Su directora es Thais, pero las creaciones tienen un poco de cada una de las integrantes. Cada una tiene conocimientos en el streetdance. Han participado en seminarios con grandes exponentes mundiales como Gemini, Danny Lugo de puerto rico, D-Master Mariano Capona, Suga Pop de los Electric Boogaloos (fundadores del streetdance) y se hanpresentado en grandes escenarios como el Sudaka ´07, Beat Dance en  Santiago y diferentes encuentros , galas y discoteques en su región. Su crew es integrada por mujeres sin embargo dan clases para hombres, mujeres y niños ya que su idea es que este movimiento crezca cada vez mas sobre todo en su ciudad La La Serena.

So, the referee are on lockout. Can some tell when the hell a Strike started being called a lockout. Well, that’s not the point. The story behind this is that, one day the referees decided they needed more money, they went to David Stern (the commissioner) to plead for more money, but in the words of Referees spokesman Lamell McMorris “Stern is acting childish and not negotiating in good faith, so Stern removed himself from the process.” Come on people, you guys are the people we are meant to be looking up to. David, your like old enough to be my…my fathers mother and your acting like me…sad.

Well David Stern did have something to say about it. “In fact if it was going to get personal — which apparently he’s decided to make it by calling news media and leveling a series of inaccurate allegations — that I would absent myself from the negotiations, which I have. Hopefully we’ll make a deal with the referees, or we won’t, but it won’t be on the basis of personality, it’ll be on the basis of economics”. I personally think that is more public that personal but ok. If they want to fight, i got the popcorn.

So basically, the contract ran out and as a new 2 year deal was coming along, Stern was trying to make a drastic reduction in  their cuts and from there, everything went downhill. The league is now forced to use back-up referees from the D-league and Summer League. This is definately going to be a problem esp getting respect from players. Foul mouthed Rasheed Wallace is going to owe the league alot this year.

McMorris feels that it really isnt about the financial problems the league is facing, he thinks Stern is trying to get rid of all the old coaches. Which i personally disagree with. You cant throw away experience, just doesnt happen. In conclusion, McMorris is willing to make a deal with the commisoner if he is willing to come to his senses.  Lets see what happens. Will the NBA be called by sub-par officials or would we get our refs back.

- “Stay Balling My Friends”

I can’t say that the asians will never be as good at singing and dancing than black people, but let’s just call it as it is: black people have something that asians don’t when it comes to those performance arts. Is it biological? Are asians just doomed to lag behind black people when it comes to performance talents? Because science is not my field I cannot say with any certainty that asians are by nature inferior to blacks in singing and dancing (and I certainly hope not), but one angle that I can approach it from is from the perspective of culture. Asian culture (mainly east asia) does not have a good song and dance culture and this can be seen in every part of the typical asian family lifestyle. If you are asian, you can probably attest to the fact that 1) your parents encourage you to focus on school and stop wasting your time with stupid hobbies (like music and dance) 2) your parties and banquets mainly involve good food, mahjong….and that’s probably it…you’ll rarely see anyone bust out in dance unless they’re drunk and 3) families that listen, sing, and dance to the same type of music. I don’t know many black families, but I’ve been to concerts with lotsa black people in the venue and they get down regardless if they can dance or not…they just groove like nobody’s watching.

If we look at the entertainment scene, there is no doubt in my mind that we see a whole lot more talent in the black community around the world then the asian community. In fact, there are no global international pop stars that are asian!! But everyone in the world knows or has heard of michael, usher, chris brown, r. kelly, beyonce, whitney, bob marley, jimi hendrix  list goes on. It all starts from the grassroots of the culture…if your family and circle of friends listen to and support good music, chances are you will to and engage in it yourself. Asians still support and give fame to good looking pop idols who cant sing or dance and this kind of culture will just breed more useless pop icons that really have no music talent. I don’t need to say much about popular black artists….looking at the pop scene right now is evidence in itself.

If you think about it, white people and asians (in general) only liked michael jackson when he was famous and only talk about his hit songs from Thriller. When his popularity was suffering due to his changing appearance and tabloid accusations, whites and asians forgot about his music altogether (again, only in general). When I talk to black people, however, they know his songs from Off the Wall, Dangerous, Invincible etc. The pop music scene in asia is more about money and popularity instead of music. I’m not saying this is not true for the American pop scene, but there is definitely more appreciation for the art than in asia.

Same thing goes for dance, asians dance cultural is more for performance then enjoyment. Sure you can argue that korea has been winning battle of the year for bboy and japan has some of the top poppers and lockers in the world. Blacks aren’t better than asians at dancing. But if you analyze these dances more carefully, you’ll understand that in b-boying you can hide behind the fancy power moves, popping you can hide behind the pop and crazy body twisting tricks, but in locking and real hip hop there is nothing much that hides you from the dance and the groove. Black people, because of their culture of dancing for fun and whenever there is music, are better than asians at dancing. The top black lockers and hip hop dancers can take on the best asians in those field any day…not by much but enough to be apparent. It all starts with the culture and how you approach it.

Finally, I am not saying that asians can’t sing or dance as well as black people (in fact anyone can sing better than omarion and hilty and bosch/ acky are good examples of world class dancers), but it is true that in general asians are not up to par in this regard. But it can be changed, and here are a few tips that you can follow. 1)Stop listening to in turn promoting crap music (don’t give me that it’s all about taste bullshit) and listen to good music. 2) Don’t be shy and explore your love for music and dance if you are passionate about it. 3) Pass this on to your friends and family. Going to karoake and singing shit songs while going off-key doesn’t count as loving music and passing it on to your friends. And finally, we must stress creativity. Remember that asians are not able to perform as well as blacks in BLACK forms of entertainment arts such as r&b/gospel type singing and funk/groove dance. If you develop your own style then maybe other people will also be handicapped if they enter into your arena of art. Until white and black people start owning us in yuequ, trot, and enka singing, then it is not true that they are by birth better than asians.
