Cei care ascultă muzica electronică, pasionaţi de minimal, techno şi tech-house îl cunosc bine pe Loco Dice. Poate nu toţi ştiu însă că artistul a început cu muzica hip hop prin 1992. Loco Dice este unul dintre exemplele de artişti care într-un timp relativ scurt a reuşit să iasă în evidenţă prin abordarea muzicală a stilului progressive house.

Dar Loco Dice nu doar face muzică, ci o şi mixează … în club, şi pe compilaţii de studio promovate de case de discuri prestigioase. Aici trebuie amintite producţiile proprii pe vinil: “Seeing Through Shadows” (Minus Records), “Carthago” (Cocoon) şi noul material audio la casa de discuri a lui Josh Wink (Ovum Recordings) “El Gayo Negro / Flight LB7475”. Neamţul din Dusseldorf soseşte la Cluj după o tură de seturi prin oraşele mari din America de sud, iar în decembrie îl aşteaptă un turneu de date în America de nord. Să aruncaţi un ochi pe site-ul lui (locodice.com) şi să îl prindeţi live în Club Midi vineri 27 noiembrie. Livio & Roby sunt invitaţi în deschidere.

Viejo San Juan siempre tendrá su onda única. Los últimos años no han sido los mejores pero incluso así, las ganas de pasarla bien pueden con cualquier cosa. Aparte, la gente de BuenaVibra logró muy buen ambiente con el tribehouse de Loco Dice y la buena banda que allí se juntó para bailar. Noches largas de fuertes bajos que hacían vibrar hasta los pensamientos fueron continuadas por el Corona Extra Pro Surf Circuit en Isabela.  Aunque las condiciones de oleaje no ayudaron mucho, la gente y los competidores hicieron de aquel sol  intenso un buen domingo de chelas, surf y música para bailar. As half of superstar house duo Deep Dish, Dubfire has earned rapturous reviews for decades. Yet more than a few were shocked when he recently embedded himself into Richie Hawtin’s camp of ultra minimalists, while his DD partner Sharam continued down the path of least megaclub resistance. But any accusations of dilettantism will be put to rest with the release of this compilation for Sven Vath’s Coccon club with Loco Dice, celebrating the clubs 10th year in Ibiza and it’s ascension to megaclub dominance of it’s own.

Grammy winner that he is, Dubfire, wastes no time bringing in the heavy hitters and begins his set, if you will, with Basic Channel and Mr. Bizz on “Mutism + Eternity” and “Keep Focused” by Fritz Zander amps the mix into a dance craze. Close on its last notes is “Vision” which is amongst my top picks because I love the effect on the vocals; it sounds right out of a horror movie from light years into the future. Showing props to mix partner Loco Dice, Dubfire uses his remix of Tiga’s “Beep Beep,” a standout track in its own right. “Conga Da Tierre” feels dark and smoky with its electric chords before easing into “Function”—are those lasers? Sounds like it.

In his own auspicious and genre-defying career, Loco Dice always brought the hip-hop flavor, and those undertones connect his funky mix. “Carnivores” feels like a mysterious trek through the Arabian Nights, guided by a pulsating bass line. This album played tricks with my ears, and it took me a few listens to figure out album exclusive “Jadajada/Wallshaker” because it covers so much ground that it sounds like a few songs crammed into one. From there, Loco Dice seamlessly segues into “Black Mamba,” and the effect grounds you into the heart of his club scene.

Upon further consideration, that is where the beauty lies in this compilation. It is all about getting the right flow, and by the time “Unsound” rolls around, the digitized vocals sound so closely to an effect layered over an instrument that I think the whole point is for music to be the language and transform words themselves into something else—stripping away all the applied meanings and bringing them back to the sounds. Who knows?

It is as if what makes Dubfire and Loco Dice both excellent DJs is that they make it seem so easy and natural. The word is “technique,” but In the Mix is a blissed-out, grandiose compilation beyond the need for words.

Arriving home at 7am yesterday, it really felt like a week in Ibiza had just melted into one as it completely flew by.  However, I’m delighted to say that not only was it the best holiday of my life, it was also throughly a thirtieth to remember thanks to one incredible night; Cocoon at Amnesia.

A friend tipped me off on the night (and in particular, the amazing ex-Hip-Hop DJ Loco Dice) a few weeks before I was to jet off.  Having said it was the best music he’d heard in twenty years, I couldn’t believe my luck that the the party landed on the evening of my birthday and new to the term ‘tech’ house (but not the music), I couldn’t wait to check it out.  There also seemed to be a bit of a German theme on the actual night, between headlining DJ’s - Sven Väth, Tiefschwarz, Loco Dice, and five amazing new friends we met on our neighbouring balcony, who joined us to ‘make a party’.

We stepped through Amnesia’s doors at around 1am and straight into an already euphoric atmosphere.  Essentially, what’s a huge warehouse space in the middle of a highway was illuminated with a spectrum of LED lights and the speakers were bursting with heart-shaking bass-soaked beats.  From one am to six-thirty, not one of the eight of us left that dance floor and at around 5.30am, we were lucky enough to see the custom-built ‘robot’ my friend had missed only a few weeks before.  Apparently the lazer-lit creation is famous the world over and favoured by DJ-of-the-moment David Guetta.  After appearing to rise from the floor, levitate to beam luminous light rays through the crowds and jets of dry ice, I can see why.  To say this was an experience doesn’t anywhere near hit the mark and the video below could sadly never quite substitute the real thing.  Indeed, you really needed to be there and if you’re fast, you may well get the chance at one of the few remaining parties this year.

After a majorly disappointing We Love Space Sundays the evening before, I think it’s only fair i thank my friend for alerting me to the existence of Cocoon and indirectly being responsible for probably the best night of my life. Bring on Ibiza 2010.

Texas’ Dubbel Dutch, over the last year he’s churned out a brilliant array of original dance tunes. His tunes are predominantly house orientated – wether it’s chirpy jackin and fidget house, or crunky ghetto house and bmore. His tunes tend to possess minimal-stylings and bumpy rhythms, others weild hefty, wobbly basslines and dubby shakiness.

These Texan bass-smiths aren’t falling to the current trend of characterless fidget. Yes the bouncy beat and buzzy basslines are all present but he draws influence from bassline, techno and dubstep and as much as he draws from house and electro.

I definitely thought these tracks were worth posting, I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. I’d have to say my personal fav is the Martin Brothers Remix of ‘Dum’ I love the nastiness of that one.
