… findet es eine Mama, die auch gleichzeitig Sprachtherapeutin ist, wenn sie mit ihrem Kind in die Apotheke muss und die nette Dame hinter dem Tresen vor lauter Stotter-/Poltersymptomatik kaum ein stärkst gelispeltes “da empfehle ich ein Klisss- Klisssss- äh, Klissssstier” herausbringt.

(das kleine Mädchen leidet jetzt seit zwei Tagen arg und es half schlichtweg nichts anderes mehr… In Zukunft: wenig Milch und Schoki, viel gesundes Obst und Gemüse- oh weh, das wird ihr ja sehr gefallen…!)

Die gute Nachtricht: Seit dem 31.08. (da ist dieser Text entstanden) keine weiteren Probleme!

This is something I did on my free time, I gave my self 1 hour on this project.  I came up with the name Lamia as it is a Greek mythological character. Lamia is a daemon in a fairly tale that in the old time mothers use the story to threaten their child to stay in good behaviour. This is the reason why instead of using the old daemon stories to threaten their child in the modern time we could use it as a treat to good things the child does. I use an image found on internet for the tracing it was an old drawing by someone that I could not find the name. However this project is just something I did on free time non-comercial related.

The programming languages taught in primary school based in the last century need to be updated for the web generation.

Nathan Torkington gives a very humorous talk about how we can spawn (pun intended) the next generation of open-source hackers and teach kids how to use computers. He talks about the process of introducing usable, modern computer hardware and software (with a focus on open-source) into a school environment which had previously been the bastion of randomly assorted technologies, none of which were functioning very well.

Torkington talks about various aspects of teaching kids and teachers alike. How do you teach young kids without computer experience how to program? He goes on to explore many different facets of the modern computer environment, from the components that make a computer to why people search the web for pictures of people getting their legs bitten off by sharks.

We hear about his discovery that robots, are not very cool, but in fact are really lame (or are they?) He also explains how he has effectively used Scratch, a relatively new programming language, to introduce young kids to the art of programming.

A great warning to those that buy logos – from last Sunday’s Postsecret.

I always recommend not listening to any of the spiel from the brand and logo designers when a new logo is introduced. Forget about the rhetoric – what does this look like? What does it look like upside down? What will engineers and other cynics say about it? What does it look like to those with dirty minds? How does it make you feel?

Here are a few logos. Look at them dispassionately, and ask yourself what you see.

The Google Chrome logo is stunning – very simple and it manages to stand out in my OSX dock. It uses the main Google logo colours and is instantly recognisable as a Google product.

For me the Telecom logo is not bad – but neither is it good. It feels like it cost too much and I don’t really understand it. It is certainly a big improvement over the corporate look of the previous logo, and it seems younger and cooler, but still too expensive and trying too hard.

The Chanui logo is simple – a Camellia sinensis plant along with the brand name. Although I am involved in the company I had nothing to do with the logo. I like it a lot.

The Air New Zealand logo looks a little dated, but they have taken to putting it in front of wonderful pictures of destinations.

The various flavours of AirNZ’s websites have different backgrounds, and the result is excellent. No need for a redesign.

I’ve grouped the bank logos.

There is only one that stands out for me, and that is KiwiBank. The logo and slogan combine well, and it is the only logo with the word “bank” in it. BNZ’s and the piggie campaign looks childish, which is dangerous in these uncertain financial times. ANZ’s looks vaguely disturbing and Westpac NZ is making the most of life but out of sync with their Australian parent who have an updated look. All in all ANZ and BNZ look to have spent far too much money, KiwiBank comes across as serious yet thrifty and Westpac just looks old.

Beim neuen “Flagship”-Store der am Flughafen (wo früher Burgerking war) am Freitag eröffnete, soll das Design schon tw umgesetzt sein…

Abbott Miller and his team have designed the new identity and program of environmental graphics for the Seattle Art Museum that reopens to the public this weekend after a 95,000 square foot expansion designed by Allied Works Architecture. The identity helps to integrate the expansion into the existing building designed by Venturi, Scott Brown and Associates and the museum with its two sister locations in the city.

Hello family, friends, & foes! (If you are a foe, let me know so we can work on that) I know I know, You’ve been waiting for me to post for ages. Well good news… Here it is. Life been great lately and has slightly steered me in a diff direction. I have some exciting news to announce fairly soon, but until then, stay in suspense. Cashmere has been at work and we have some exciting new projects coming down the pipe. We were also showcased in a recent art show called “Revitalization of the 21 Century Church” at Roberts Wesleyan college. We were honored to be asked to enter our work into this show. Northgate continues to be the most amazing church to work and be a part of! (Sorry I’m Biased) We have some new things going on there as well like video of our weekend services. The photography side of my life is becoming more exciting! I am getting opportunity to shoot some pretty cool events/people/things. Like you for instance. I have thoroughly been enjoying fall and all that it brings like the hints of snow and 8 truckloads of leaves jsut from my backyard. Well I don’t know if enjoy is the correct term for that.
