Earlier today I published a rather rambling post about how I’ve been so busy but have nothing to show for it.  It was as pointless  as the efforts I’ve been expending in several different directions the last few days, and I’ve since removed it.  It emphasized for me the importance of focusing on doing one thing well rather than trying to do everything at once and the necessity of setting realistic goals.

I have a lot of things I’d like to get done but I’m going to have to pick one and stick to it.  I’ve been wanting to revisit my “Lunch” program to figure out why I couldn’t get the SQL DB to work properly and also add a few more features, I need to get my “User Admin” program working with Active Directory, and I want to finish my portfolio, which includes coming up with a logo.  I also created a photo blog but I’m reconsidering the theme I’ve chosen and I’m reconsidering the theme I’m using on this blog.  I’m also trying to create my own WordPress theme.

That’s a lot of tasks even for someone who knows what they’re doing/what they want!

So I’m taking a step back.  My lunch program, while useful, is not a high priority.  Nor is my portfolio and all that that entails.  Changing my blog themes is hardly urgent and can wait until I’m able to create my own, whenever that may be.  Coming up with a logo is probably best left to the experts (thankfully — I really don’t care for working with images).  My first priority should be working on User Admin and learning how to create a program to add users to Active Directory.

There, see how nicely that worked out?  I’ve prioritized my tasks, set realistic goals, thought things through, and if I follow my own advice, I’ll soon be focused on one thing and one thing only.  Of course, even as I write this I’m tempted to take another stab at creating some sort of logo image, but I swear I’m going to try to restrain myself!
