I’m writing this post for several reasons, the first being that I’m sure you guys are SO interested in my musical taste (notice the sarcasm in that sentence?). The second, of course, is that I really have nothing else to write about. Well, that’s not completely true. Okay, so I have  TON of Eisley songs (they’re my favorite band, after all), but I bought this semi-recently, so I thought I’d put it on the list. It’s such a creative song- I love the irony in the lyrics.

Kaleidescope Machine by Katie Costello
The fact that this girl wrote the song and is still a teenager is mind-boggling. It’s an amazing song that never fails to cheer me up.

The Calculation by Regina Spektor
You should check out Regina’s entire new album, “Far”. Besides “The Calculation”, my favorites include “Human of the Year” and “Eet”. All in all, it’s really a great album.

Modern Nature by Sondre Lerch
I’ve recently really gotten into Sondre Lerch, and this song is absolutely adorable. I love how they use both male and female vocals. I discovered this song through the movie Dan in Real Life- apparently Sondre  composed most of the soundtrack. It’s especially cute for a movie soundtrack, so I suggest giving it a try!

All This Beauty by The Weepies
I’m a HUGE Weepies fan, so I guess it’s only natural that I love this song. The lyrics are so bright and descriptive.

Sweet Ones by Sarah Slean
I’m currently sounding this one out on the piano. It’s such a quirky song and kind of has a cabaret feel. I always sing along. XD

500 Miles (I’m Gonna Be) by The Proclaimers
Yet another song I discovered through a movie (the movie in question being Benny and Joon, one of my favorite movies in the entire world). It’s one of my all-time favorites!

Yes, I’m also pretty into older songs as well. This is probably thanks to my parents, of course. Anyways, I love the piano in this song! Upbeat piano tunes always make me especially happy.

Hey look! Another upbeat piano tune! I’ve been meaning to work this out on the piano, but I’ve never really gotten around to it. Oh well… maybe eventually.

Frozen by Tegan and Sara
This is definitely one of their older songs, but it’s still great (like anything this band does). Definitely give it a look-see (but is that possible with music…?)!

Paper Bag by Fiona Apple
I love the bluesy feel to the song. No, scratch that. I love Fiona Apple in general (most of the time).

Yes, the lack of capitolization was on purpose. But anyways, I’m head over heels with this song, despite the fact that it’s in French (and I’m really bad at French). It’s kind of awkward when I try to sing along, but that doesn’t stop me!

Don’t Wake Me Up by The Hush Sound
This was the first Hush Sound song I ever heard, and to this day it remains my favorite. Unfortunately the band is taking a “break”, which makes for a very sad Cocoa. Oh, and Michael Jackson is dead! Music is dying…

Billy Joel is one of my favorite artists, and “It’s Still Rock and Roll To Me” is probably my favorite song by him, even though the rest of my family is partial to “Vienna”. I love that song as well, but it doesn’t compare!

I love Zooey Deschanel, and when I found out she had a band (with M. Ward, of all people!) I was quite happy. When I found out that I liked her music even more than her movies, I was ecstatic.

It’s an incredibly sad song (it makes me teary!), but I love it nonetheless. It always helps me calm down.

Today I found out I have a new job, so in celebration of my being un-unemployed I decided to post a “happy” song for today’s Friday Fun.  The two songs that instantly came to mind were “Leva’s Polka” by Loituma, or the Renn and Stimpy classic “Happy Happy Joy Joy“.  I decided on “Leva’s Polka” because I have alway found it an up beat and cheery song.

If you are currently unemployed then try listening to this song when ever you’re a feeling down.  Hopefully it will cheer you up, and remember to keep on plugging on.  I’ll post more about my new job in a later post.  Take care, and have a great weekend ~ Jim

Foi uma brincadeira feita com uma música do grupo finlandês Loituma, e o nome da canção é Leva’s Polka. Não vou colocar na íntegra aqui a canção porque daí ninguém mais visita o blog. Então é mais fácil deixar o link aí acima.

Today’s beat of the day is the Loituma song which is one of the popular songs in YouTube and comes in different version. Loituma song was originally brought by a Finnish band consists of 4 people. If I recall, this song also won an award in best Ensemble song (I forgot which award, just google it to find out).

Anyway, this Inoue Orihime, a character from Bleach, seems to be quite popular in being the mascot of singing the Loituma song (Even Hatsune Miku from Vocaloid adopts the celery thing on Inoue hands). You can see people holding celery and do crazy dance while singing Loituma on YouTube.

Anyway, you can find millions of Loituma song variation. Either it is Russian version, Polish version, or just melodic humming version. It’s a quite catchy song and you can still enjoy it either in techno or orginal. Here’s some of the variations that I found to be a cute and funky tune:

Loituma, ich glaube inzwischen ein Klassiker, der gut klingt und den man kennen sollte:

Hoy después de haber perdido el autobús a Uruapan –gracias al desgraciado despertador que no cumplió con su trabajo- fui a la casa de una amiga y me enseñó una de sus canciones favoritas: Ievan Polkka, que es interpretada por Loituma.

Loituma es un grupo Finlandés que nació en 1989 que consta de cuatro integrantes. El grupo canta canciones folklóricas combinado con el sonido del Kantele –un instrumento de cuerda tradicional de Finlandia- y la voz narrando historias tradicionales de su país.

La canción habla de un hombre que quiere bailar con Ieva, pero la madre no lo deja, así que se escapan y bailan toda la noche. Al regresar la madre está totalmente furiosa pero el hombre le dice que estarán juntos sin importar que pase.

Wenn einfach alles wieder quer läuft und man mit den Nerven am Ende ist hilft ein fröhliches Liedchen.

Unten läuft übrigens ein Counter mit. Bin ja mal gespannt, wie lange ihr es aushaltet. Ich war nach knapp 5 min. wieder fröhlich genug
Bei besonders hartnäckiger schlechter Laune hilft es, sich einen Lauch aus der Küche zu holen und selbst mitzuschwingen. Am besten dann noch aufnehmen und auf Youtube einstellen, um alle an der neu gewonnenen Freude teilhaben zu lassen.

Hier ein kleiner Nachtrag zu dem Video mit der Porree-Frau, dass ich vor kurzem hier rein gestellt habe. Es haben wohl einige das Video gesucht und sind dadurch bei mir auf der Seite gelandet, was mich natürlich erfreut! Doch habe ich jetzt mal nachgeforscht und so einiges herausgefunden!

Você pode não saber exatamente o que é um meme, mas com certeza você já viu, assistiu, leu ou ouviu alguns deles.

Loituma Girl é um deles. Também conhecido como Leekspin, a original em questão é a personagem Inoue Orihime do anime Bleach. Particularmente uma cena do segundo episódio da série, onde a personagem conversa com outros enquanto recolhe compras de mercado que haviam caído durante um acidente com um carro. Ela segura e rodopia um ramo de alho-poró.

Alguém teve a brilhante idéia de associar esse pequeno trecho de animação com um trecho de uma popular e tradicional música finlandesa conhecida como Ievan Polkka.

A primeira versão, como muitos outros memes, apareceu em Flash (clique para ver). Essa já tem seu próprio domínio…

Depois do original, a fórmula foi repetida inúmeras vezes com outros personagens de anime, remixes da musica, e pessoas tentando imitar.

I’m planning on starting a new series of posts about memes which are, in summary, “viral phenomena” on the Internet.

You might not know exactly what is a meme, but I’m pretty shure you already saw, watched, read or heard some of them.

Loituma Girl is one of them.

Also known as Leekspin, the original character is Inoue Orihime from Bleach anime. Particularly a scene from the second episode of the series, where the character is chatting with others while picking grocery store shopping that she had dropped during a car accident. She hold and twirls a leek while talking.

Someone had the brilliant idea of associating this small animation with part of a popular and traditional finnish song called Ievan Polkka.

First version, like many other memes, was a Flash Animation. Got it’s own homepage!

After the original, the same mix was repeated several times with other anime characters, music remixes, and real people trying to imitate it.
