“All I ever wanted is a chance,” stating in her YouTube shout-out before she deleted her account today. Before promoting herself as Summer Lee, she first used the name “Summer Lou” which means Summer-star. But then after few months changed her name to Summer Lee.

She has been in some forums when there was a rumour that she will debut in a Fahrenheit film which was denied by her stating that she can’t be givn a chance. Criticized by netizens that she’s not pretty at all, she closed down her first YouTube account last summer.

“She indeed has a reat voice,” states some people who heard her posts. Still, until yesterday she wants to give up.

I, personally am amazed by her talent in composing songs and in singing of course. I hope she finds her agency anywhere here in Asia and debut.

Oh, yeah, the reason why she deleted her YouTube account is that she is opening her WordPress webpage officially tomorrow by posting her new song(well, not digitally of course. Acapella, I think) “Curious” hope you guys will liker her!

I have never been a big fan of K-Pop…before I stumbled upon 2NE1 and Big Bang. Now, it’s one of my favorite genres. Even though I don’t really understand what they say, I love the beat they produced. I also love the way they dress. It is so unique, colorful and cool. Oh, and their dance moves!

The video above is called Lollipop by Big Bang and 2NE1. It is such a nice collaboration since Big Bang is a group of Korean boys and 2NE1 is a group of Korean girls. They are both famous groups and I’m so glad they collaborated in this song. Well, I hope you all enjoyed Lollipop! Till next post!

I think 2pm deserved the Artist of the Year award, 2NE1’s Song of the Year-I Don’t Care(I personally loved that song), and G-Dragon’s Album of the Year award-Heartbreaker. I am proud to say that I watched MAMA from the beginning to the end.

I loved everybody’s performances especially 2NE1’s G-Dragon’s and 2PM’s and most of the “waves”. I am initially happy for the Brown Eyed Girls’ Abracadabra won the best dance of the year award!

After the MAMA, netizens who also watched the awards night live commented, criticized, and questioned –why is it called Mnet Asian Music Awards if they made most of the talking people in front are Koreans?(well, yeah some may be Japanese or Chinese..etc)

I am personally happy because I have watched MAMA live. Yes, maybe the netizens that are questioning about the MAMA are right, maybe then, they are wrong.

My reply is: this is the first time they did it. It will hopefully be improved next year, or the other year, or the other year. But I am happy that Lollipop(Bang Bang Tang) performed, even though without Wang Zi and Xiao Jie. This is the first time that I have watched AKB48 live and I think they are kinda cute too.

I hope that MAMA 2010 will improve and I recommend them to get hosts who knows how to speak English(because they are showing it live, and how can people who doesn’t understand their language understand what they are saying) -my opinion:)

oh yeah, I almost forgot about TVXQ/DBSK–so happy for them. They really are gaining popularity here on Asia!

First all you music readers and listeners need to go see the movie, Pirate Radio. It is the true story of rock and pop radio stations moving to the seas to broadcast music like the Beatles to the people of the United Kingdom. Most of the music in the 1960’s was seen as unbroadcastible to the U.K.’s government. So they music lovers moved to seas to broadcast until later shut down all music took over. Now on too the blog….

The music scene is filled with an array of musical artists trying to become the top recording artist not only in their respected genre. Most artists entirely write all their songs and some artists have their record labels assist the writing/creative process. The creative process starts and ends with the artist whether its a band or only a singer.  When our entire world and knowledge is based on creativity then can we justify what is authentic? The art of music is the best known free way of expression. Without creativity then music would never structure itself and evolve into what it is today.

The reason I am asking myself this question is that with the music world today there so many genres to say “that’s music what music is supposed to sound like”.  We could sound like our parents or our parent’s parents say that music lost its edge in the 60’s-70’s.  In the summer of 2008, Lil Wayne sold 1 million records within his first week with two songs “Lollipop” and “A Milli”. These two songs when looked back on were great yet not looked upon as the best songs even by Lil Wayne. “Lollipop” was an autotune success but is that authentic or just creative. We all know Weezy does not sound that good when he sings as goes for Britney Spears. But we all as fans come to accept it. So is Britney Spears authentic with most songs written for her and her voice is doubled and autotuned most of the time? Or do we look the other way? No music supporter cannot say she is “not” being creative but she brought a new sound to the female pop world. If this makes entire sense  to the music world, then all boy bands are as creative as the Jonas Brothers. The Jonas Brothers at least play their music and are very heavy handed when it comes to producing and writing their songs. So are they the same as some new pop star with all his music and writing is given to him.

During last night’s broadcast of the European Music Awards, Jay-Z was voted as the “Best Urban Artist” of 2009. When he accepted his award and thanked the fans but told everyone that he wishes that he could see the day when all music can be known as one because artists like himself and Green Day plus the other artists on the stage as U2 and the Jonas Brothers. Jay-Z told the crowd that we all go into the recording studio the same way and record and write songs for you. Well if Jay-Z understands it then music is music. And we can all go on since Mr. Sean Carter said so. So respect and support music no matter what.

Yes, I am still rocking my lovely stash of Halloween candy. Well, technically, these are not leftover Halloween candy because I got them post Halloween. They were on sale at Whole Foods for only $2.99 since Halloween was over and no body wants to keep Halloween marked items on their shelves. The same bag of 60 lollipops (with regular packaging) was still selling for the full price of $6.69. Never one to pass up a good deal, I grabbed a bag. I remember I tried Yummy Earth Lollipops before and I liked them enough to repurchase. Last time I was only able to try 3 flavors so I was quite excited to get the full spectrum of their fruit lollipops this time.

One thing I dislike about the Yummy Earth Lollipops is that they do not have an even distribution of their flavors. No tooberry blueberry, strawberry smash  and only one sour apple tart (which happen to be my favorite). My bag was dominated by googly grape, very very cherry, and wet face watermelon (so much for getting the “full spectrum” of their flavors).  Good to know (via amazon) that Yummy Earth knows about this situation and is coming out with a more even distribution soon. (Well, at least for their 5 lb bags and 150 count bins).

Mango Tango: Interesting mix of clear orange and solid yellow color– like a tied-dyed t-shirt. Sour and tangy. Faintly resembles mango flavor. More “tango” than mango.

Very Very Cherry: Delicious cherry flavor with no medicinal aftertaste like some other cherry flavor candies

TooBerry Blueberry: None  in the bag for me.

Wet-Face Watermelon: A little bit sour. The watermelon flavor needs a little bit more refining, but still good. The flavor tasted the most “artificial” of the bunch.

Googly Grape: Good ‘ol grape flavor. Like they turned a glass of grape juice into a lollipop form.

Sour Apple Tart: I like the taste of sweet and tart together. At first, I mistake the flavor to be pear. Very refreshing. My favorite flavor in the bag!

Pomegranate Pucker: Not POM Wonderful tasting pomegranate flavor, but will suffice. Among the more tart tasting flavor, but still delicious.

Smash Strawberry: Sadly, my bag had none.

Awe, isn’t it lovely? <3

This is my favorite childhood candy…many a day/night was I pacified with this delectable sour goodness. It is small, convenient and yummy; not to mention it’s shaped like bugs – I LOVE BUGS!

So, after thinking about this memorable treat, I began to recall other candies that were in my childhood and some new ones that I wish I had met when I was younger – where have you been all my life?

These are my dear friends that help me when I am sad [comfort food? O_o], they make me hyper-insane-crazed and they change me into a selfish person [I don't share this stuff]. They have been good to me for many years and they always say hello when I enter a store, how nice of them.

These are not listed in any specific order.

• Bug City Candy Tarts

These were my fav of all time when I was little because they were cheap, meaning plentiful. My mom would always carry this around and whenever I needed to be “shut-up” I would receive a handful of the sour bugs!

• Twix

Now who doesn’t love chocolate, caramel and cookie wrapped in a gold package? This is my top of the list chocolate bar, the one I always look for, I just wish they were bigger…like a lot bigger!

• Strawberry Pocky

My new candy splurge from the Land of the Rising Sun, Japan. Okay, I admit I got hooked on this because my favorite anime characters ate it, but they’re still good…okay???

• Hershey’s Milk Duds

Mmmm, extremely chewy and…maybe I just love chocolate with caramel…

• Ferrero Rocher

My expensive choice…not that it’s that expensive but it makes me feel wealthy when I eat it, not to mention the melting “special effect” it has in your mouth.

• Tic Tac Mints: Orange Flavor

This was my grandmother’s version of the bug candy. “Here Jerusha, shut-up and eat these!” Of course, I would only get, like, two…*cry*

• Pelon Pelo Rico Tamarind Candy

I discovered this candy when I was seven and traveling in Mexico with my family. It was really cheap and so spicy/sour…been hooked ever since. It’s not easy to find in the states, especially now that I live in the midwest.

• Salt Water Taffy

Awe, this candy always reminds me of my vacation to Canada, the beaches, the mountains, the ocean…yeahhhhh.

• Sour Gummy Worms

Come on, you know you like them to! 1.) It’s a bug, need I say more?

• Chupa Chups Lollipops

I love this sucker, not that it tastes better than any other sucker, but they come in many flavor choices and they have a pretty wrapper.

• Swedish Fish

Yes! I like these…but, not for the reason you like them. I like them because they make me extremely hyper…it’s like my crack, seriously.

I like these because I am evil and enjoy ripping cute little bears’ heads off!

Ne avevamo già parlato, eccole qua di nuovo. Giovanissime (73 anni in quattro), sicuramente molto “cool”, magari non proprio dotatissime vocalmente, ma hanno tempo per lavorarci su. Sono le Queensberry, gruppo formato da Popstar, versione tedesca di Operazione Trionfo.

Eccovi “Hello (turn your radio on)”. nuovo singolo, il secondo dell’album “On my own”. Tutto molto ballabile. Somigliano un pò alle nostre Lollipop, ma con maggiore sfrontatezza (e del resto qualche anno un pò è passato). Una delle quattro è italiana: si chiama Antonella Trapani ed ha 17 anni.

For my daughter E’s first birthday last year, I came up with the idea of making a mini bundt cake tower. For one whole year since then, I’d had this question niggling at the back of my head: What clever cake can I come up with next year?

In the end, her 2nd birthday came last week and I found myself doing the ultimate loser thing: I copied a design from Martha Stewart. Why? Because this cake is just the cutest darn thing I’ve ever laid my eyes on.

I mean, look at it! It has colourful lollipops stuck all over like little flowers, and even frilly grass creeping up from the sides. Forget about being original, man. This is one copy-cake I wanted to eat.

But mind you, mimicry is an art.

There was a  lot of walking back and forth between kitchen and balcony – where there was direct daylight – before I could colour the buttercream the exact same shade of green as the original.

And I’m a little embarrassed to say that it took quite a few teaspoonfuls of green colouring to achieve it – so much so that I was afraid our guests who ate it would look into their toilet bowls the next morning and wonder if they had overdosed on vegetables.

There was also much fussing over the size and colours of the gummies that were to be skewered with satay sticks and stuck on the cake. I even went out especially to buy the right sized leaf piping tip so that my grass sheaves would look nothing short of perfect.

The verdict? When E’s de facto godmother C first saw the cake, she cried: “It’s just like the real thing!!” And my husband Z, no doubt inspired by the piped-in muzak we always hear in supermarkets, proudly declared to his friends that I am a “cover artiste”.

Me? For someone who has never bought a fake good in her life (never bought a branded good either), I’m totally pleased about my counterfeiting prowess. If I were a city, my name would be Zhen. Shenzhen.

Surprisingly, because my sleep schedule was messed up, I fell asleep rather early last night.  I guess I tend to get sleepy when grinding in RPGs (you can assume I was playing Devil Survivor). お母さん, always seems to like to wake me up at the worse moments… because she woke me up at 5:30 to give me subway change.  Though I don’t have school today due to Veterans day.  So I’ve been up since because I initially couldn’t fall back asleep.

I browsed wigs (yeah haha) and chatted to Kevin being a bum in class (but he deserves so because he got the highest grade in the midterm – 90 – where as most of the class got 50s-60s).

I haven’t gone to Anime Expo since.. it moved to Los Angeles.  It’s not ’cause it moved.. it was just the last AX I went to was utterly disappointing to the point I LEFT EARLY by TWO DAYS.  It partly had to do with the rooming situation.  Plus AX seemed to be getting boring every year, so I decied not to go. Although I did want to go to AX09 for Morning Musume.. but I didn’t

I plan to got next year though… and I feel “naked” if I don’t cosplay at a con!

It took… a while, but I finally think I have finalized my Anime Expo 2010 costumes:

But, after thinking and debating, this is the current situation..that I will most likely stick to:

I chose Ino, because I like her and GGX in general.  My friend also used to say I reminded him of Ino – possibly because we both have a “beauty mark” in the same area of our face. I think this might be the hardest costume. We’ll see!

So, I’ve loved rhythm games since I started Middle school. I used to play DDR religiously.  In high school I started playing Para Para Paradise, and though I’ve wanted to play Pop n’music for awhile, I didn’t get to do so till college – when I met a guy with a love of rhythm games + a hacked fat PS2 + the controller.

The game is really fun – for button hitting.  The character designs have always been fun too.  I’ve always had a large list of popn characters I’ve wanted to cosplay, so I decided this was the year I would do one. Kanoko was my choice

Apparently there will be a Pop n for the Wii released in the states this month.  To be honest, I might play it.. but it seems somewhat disappointing.

Why?

It seems rather mundane with just shaking the wii-motes to be honest…

When it comes to popn and other bemani games… it’s totally all about the controllers!

^Awesome popn controller.  It really is fun with the control.

^I can’t see playing awesome “routines” like this without the control!

I’m actually planning to Mod my PS2 slim silver (yes it’s possible Kevin) so I can play popn again.  I’m planning to save up for the controller too, as well as Para Para Paradise+control.

Maybe it’s an excuse for me to make a cute outfit and buy some red shoes too

Viola is actually a costume I have. I just never finished it, so I figured I should take the time to finish it, because I really did like how most of it came out, and she never really was worn because it wasn’t completely done by AX time! IT shouldn’t be so bad because it’s almost done.. just need to dig it out.

I don’t think I finished my Ragnarok Online High Priest either… maybe this is a maybe, I will finish and wear it too.

Last, this outfit is probably more for going out/dinner/whatever with friends. To be honest, I love this outfit of Park Bom’s but I like Min-ji’s alt outfit too.

I am addicted to this video though! It’s a catch song, but most of all it’s so colorful. I love colors.

I actually thought it would be fun to get a group together – because… it’d be more of an impact/more noticable.  My brother is most likely going to AX and one of the big bang members reminds me of him, so I’d prob ask him to dress up with me. I’m also trying to see if some of my other friends are going as well, so I can ask them to do the group with me! I know my friend Fen likes the video/song too, so hopefully she’ll do it if she goes.

Basically none of the outfits are from anime (ha). They’re mostly music or games – which..pretty much is me anyways. I fell out of the anime loop really. I’ll watch some, but i’m not as hard core as I was when i was a teen. People grow up I guess right?

2NE1 1st Mini Album is2NE1’s 1st mini-album and it was released on July 8th, 2009.

Kicking off this amazing mini-album is the song that 2NE1 is known for, the insanely catchy Fire. It’s a crossover of typical K-Pop synth with an amazing R&B beat, giving birth to this high energy, extremely danceable and just oh so fun to listen to song. Each girl shines in their particular vocal parts, Minzi and CL take care of the rapping with their amazing charisma while Bom and Dara show their best as vocalists with extraordinary voices. Fire really is the best way to introduce someone to 2NE1, it has a little bit of everything, plus, who doesn’t love a good Dara “CHALLA CHALLA CHALLA CHALLA!”?

Next is the heavenly I Don’t Care, an R&B pop song, almost on the point of being a ballad with an infectious chorus. I really like the harp in the instrumental, it adds a feeling of gentleness to the song, which when contrasted with the R&B beats make for a very unique combination. The girls give their best performance in the vocals, particularly Bom who dominates the chorus perfectly with that infamous “I don’t care-e-e-e-e-e-e” line. CL’s and Minzy’s rap before the final chorus is also notable. The only negative thing I could say about the song is the sudden ending. I thought that the I don’t care line could have been repeated just a bit more, or at least had the song fade out, as it kind of ends abruptly.

My all time favorite 2NE1 song has to be In The Club. You could say it’s the “saddest” song on the album, and indeed it is. You’d expect an upbeat club song when looking at the song name but while it does have a very heavy deep club sound, the song is actually pretty slow-tempo’d, focusing on the vocals and emotions the girls express. I love the acoustic guitar in the background and the faraway synth. I also have to mention Dara’s outstanding job in the bridge. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a Korean artist express so much emotion through their voice than she has in this track. Bom once again shines in that great chorus.

Let’s Go Party adopts that same club style featured in the previous song but instead makes it an upbeat, party track. I wasn’t too fond of this song at first but then slowly began to appreciate the above average instrumental the song has. You also can’t deny that the chorus is pretty darn catchy as well. This type of club sound for 2NE1 really works great for them. The ending of this song is something similar of what I Don’t Care should have had.

The award to fiercest instrumental is no doubt for Pretty Boy. That brass driven instrumental is made to spell out instant hit. The song, with its heavy bass, beats and synth just make for a really fierce song in the similar road as Fire. CL really makes the song though, her voice and charisma are what make the song as good as it is. The chorus is different though, as it drops the bass-line and turns more to the pop genre(with Bom leading, of course). Another great track.

finishing off the album is the half ballad/club track Stay Together. The hybrid of that club style with a slower, almost ballad like(for 2NE1 standards) make for a very special result and accompanied with each girl giving their best performance in their respective fields(Bom singing, Minzy rapping…), its one heck of an album finisher. Absolutely love the chorus in this song, “we gotta stay together”~.

Featured as a bonus track on the album is Lollipop, a duet song between 2NE1 and BIG BANG. While I really enjoyed this club-like pop, very YG Teddy like song at the beginning, it kind of grew annoying for me as the girls began to release better music. While the instrumental is in no way an annoyance, it must be because of the vocals. Maybe it’s G-Dragon’s slightly annoying rapping or maybe Dara’s “lolli, lolli, oh lollipop” high-pitched lines. The chorus can have it’s catchy moments and the song isn’t a total failure but it gets overshadowed by the rest of the tracks.

2NE1 was my first official release in the K-Pop industry and I’m more than proud to say that they definitely left me wanting to hear more of this new style of music. Every song easily had the potential to be released as a title track and the variety between all of them was just outstanding. The songs(minus Fire) are all structured very similarly but the different was the girls sing, the hooks and chorus make them all distinguishable. The girls should stick in this direction and they’ll be all set for that new album coming out soon.

Day 7.

Not doing much today. Dad was meant to take me for lunch, to celebrate leaving school but didn’t work out. He’s way too disorganised. My brother has been really annoying today, but I got a pretty cute picture of him, so decided to post that. There were a few others, but I decided this was the best one. The lollipop works well as a prop.
