Mobilink replaces BB 8520 Gimini with “Lollypops”

I doubted the veracity of my friend’s claim that Mobilink had been run out of the stock of Blackberry Curve 8520 (Gemini) and customers were giving various lollypops. To confirm the news, I made a call at 120 – the Mobiink Blackberry customer service centre and enquired about the availability of the said handset. The representative tried to give me a lollypop too but failed as I was aware of their scheme. Taking another route he promised me to revert to me after confirmation from his head office.

After about 30 minutes I was confirmed, “ We are sorry that you have to wait for some days to get Blackberry 8520. I asked, “How many days”? He replied, “About 15 days”.
I exclaimed, “Fifteeeeen days”. Why one should wait 15 more days and not go to Ufone for prompt availability with better price, service and package.

Though Mobilink was the pioneer in introducing Blackberry in Pakistan yet, now, it is lagging far behind from Ufone. Ufone has introduced 5 consecutive Blackberry Firsts. The latest, Ufone has launched today – BB Bold 9700 Smartphone.

Today I thought I would show a few pictures from our market stall at Caboolture markets. I think our stand looked great and we were very happy with the Stampin’ Up! banner.

You can just see Sarah doing a few last minute adjustments.

We met some lovely people who were very enthusiastic about the wonderful Stampin’ Up! products.

Sarah and Shirley worked very hard to create some beautiful gifts. These sold very well as teacher gifts and also as “nanna” gifts. The post-it note covers, matching bulldog clips along with a matching pen were a hit on the day.

And aren’t those giant paperclips just the cutest bookmarks you’ve ever seen.

Candy canes and lollypops were of real interest to the younger generation.

And what could set off a beautifully wrapped present better than a gorgeous handmade paper bow.

All in all we had a great day, met some lovely people and learned a lot.

We hope to do this again in the near future and will keep you posted about where we will be.

Hope you are all having a great day. See you soon.

Painting a Day for 30 Days Project (Robots) – #8,
8.23.09, “Robot in Lollyland”

I’m working on a themed “Painting a Day for 30 Days” project series, beginning August 16th, 2009.

Size: 9″ x 12″

Technique: “Primitive” illustration-style watercolor on heavily textured board. This project is really bringing out my “children’s illustrator” side. Playful, bold colors and simplistic strokes (which are more carefully planned than they look).

Inspiration:

Candyland + tiny robots = the 8th Robot entry.

PS:

Yes! I’m behind on posting robots–but not painting them. I’ve been swamped this week and I’ve only had time to paint, not scan and post. I’ll be dumping a batch on my blog before the weekend is over.

All of my daily projects will be posted for sale in my ARTFIRE shop, to help promote that great new arts & crafts venue. The people who own Artfire are really cool.

I’ve always loved letters; numbers and language. I learned to read at two and a half and was hooked on Enid Blyton books by four. I’ve always been a bookworm. With the amount of books I own, I could easily open a library. I have walls lined with bookcases. At some point, I’d like to spend more time researching language and origins of words etc and get more into latin. I never really took it seriously at school and didn’t do well.

I was listening recently to a fantastic discussion on Radio 4 about the “most ambitious and effective information design projects ever executed in Britain” – the road and motorway signage system; which was carried out between 1957 to 1967 by Designer Jock Kinneir and his assistant Margaret Calvert. Every road sign was photographed on a journey from central London to the Heathrow airport; which demonstrated a chaotic and confusing spectrum of signage. They designed the road signage we see today; which has been a template for countries around the world. I was fascinated about how much was involved for something that I’d really just taken for granted and hadn’t given much thought about before – but road signage is just like any other design project. Clarity; symbolism; colour and shape of the signs and fonts all had to be considered. They had to consider the spacing between each letter and test the signs etc. I would have loved to have been involved! You can read more about it at the Design Museum’s website

I love anything to do with letters and numbers that is made. Here’s a few of my favourites on the web at the moment

Crusade Against High Heels and Lolly Pop Habit

BOSTON, Dec. 7 – A ban on high heels such as never carried a Puritan or Pilgrim ancestress to church is to be sought from the legislature by the Massachusetts Osteopathic society. Announcement that the society would introduce a bill to stop the high heel at its source – the manufacturer – was made at its nineteenth annual convention.

Dr. R. Kendrick Smith of Brookline, who read a paper on “High Heels a Crime,” told his associates that the advent of woman suffrage had given the society courage to propose a bill prohibiting the manufacture, sale, and wearing of heels more than one and one-half inches in height.

The fad of sucking lollypops also was attacked.

“The lollypop is not a bad piece of physical enjoyment,” said Dr. Robert H. Veitch of Medford, “were it not for the danger of functional derangement of the stomachs of our school pupils and others by its excessive use.”

I have tried to explain to a lot of people what is magnificent about this ad. In fact, weirdly, there was a t-shirt in Top Shop which referenced it, leading me to need to do a lot of explaining. The problem is, and perhaps why this is such a classic, is that there’s no good reason. There’s nothing that funny about it. And, other than it’s nostalgia factor, the animation really has no merits. But, for no clear reason, I can’t get enough of it. And noting how many people bought that t-shirt, no one else can, either.

“Don’t mention Easter, they’re Jewish!!!”

“So it’s just a birthday party?”

“Yes. Remember to do a good job, they’re my cousins.”

“I always do my best.” Duh.

I did very well, as usual, and not once did I mention that it was Easter. At the end of the party, the mom handed me a bag.

“Here you go, ‘Honey Bear.’ Lollypops for the kids…” she said excitedly.

Then her voice turned to a whisper as she finished her sentence.

“They’re kosher.”

“The kids or the lollypops?” I whispered back.

She didn’t find it nearly as funny as I did.
