The iconic Empire State Building in New York City being reflected on the back window and trunk of a car.

The Flat Iron Building at 23rd Street, Broadway, & 5th Avenue, New York, has always been one of my favourite buildings, and I had a chance to see it myself in 2006. This image was made with a Nikon D2x and susequently Holga-ized in Photoshop. Check out this image made in winter from virtually the same spot I made mine.

Made a few years back when I traveled to NYC (Manhattan) with a good friend of mine, Murray Lawrence. It has been Holga-ized in Photoshop with an action, but was made originally with a Fuji F10 digital camera.

Also, I’ve noticed that I never blog about

inspirations from the past- I’m always caught up in what’s the now and

that I can learn from.

Güneşli bir Pazar, ilham perisine ihtiyacım olan günler ve ev hapsi… Brüksel’de şehrin ve hayatın stresinden kaçabilecek köşelerden biri Leopold Parkı. Bu parkta ilham perisini de İlhan İrem’i de bulmak mümkün.

Arabalar Bulvar General Jacques’da 24 saat durmadan akar. Brüksel’de ilk yılımda bu bulvarda oturmuştum. Halen okula gidip gelirken tramla o binanın önünden geçiyorum. Galiba hala benim perdelerim asılı duruyor.

İşte paşam Avrupa Birliği’nin kapısındayız onlarca yıldır. Burası orası yani kapı. Brüksel Lüksemburg Meydanında Avrupa Birliği Parlemento binasının kapısı. Bu kapının altından iç avluya giriliyor arkada parlamentoya doğru yürünüyor. Avrupa Birliği, Euro, Schengen, bir noktaya kadar ortak ulaşım polikası ve Erasmus programları haricinde Avrupalılık kimliğine elle tutulur bir proje sunmuyor bence.

Dün Belçika Başbakanı Herman Van Rompuy‘un AB Başkanı, İngiltere’den Avrupa Komisyonu’nun ticaretten sorumlu üyesi Barones Catherine Ashton’ın Dışişleri Yüksek Temsilcisi olarak belirlenmesinden sonra da bu iş değişecek gibi görünmüyor. Özellikle Van Rompuy’un Türkiye’nin üyeliğine soğuk bakması da pek bir şey değiştirmez. Sonuçta Egemen Bağış’ın Avrupa Birliği üyeliği için ne gibi bir etkisi var ki AB başkanı tarafından engellensin? Post’u noktalamadan bir iki bağlantıyı da peylaşalım tam olsun. Bakalım bugüne kadar Javier Solana ile denen AB Başkanlığı ne gibi bir etki doğuracak…

So my happy list continues, albeit slowly.  I have been busy marking student work and finalising the next issue of the magazine.  I realise how quickly we get drawn into the mundane and conventional.

That is why I love lomography, it is unconventional and nothing is predictable.  Every image that is taken with a lomo camera is a surprise.  

The dictionary defines a surprise as ‘an unexpected or astonishing event, fact, or thing’, ‘denoting something made, done or happening unexpectedly ’.

The image below was taken while shooting at Hollard’s Art Collection at there new head offices in 2006.  Villa Arcadia  is an elegant landmark on the foothills of Johannesburg built by Sir Lionel Philip 1907 and designed by the infamous Sir Herbert Baker.  Shot on Tungsten film the image is indicative of the soft and gentle character of lomo photography.

Since working in an office is a routine that can kill even the most creative minds, we decided to break that chain of sometimes (if not always) boring repetitive work. The beauty that we see through the viewfinders of our minds need to be shared to the whole world. Its poetry needs to be expressed by translating it to images that can be seen and probably understood by others. Besides, we think its about to time to use those wonderful cameras to capture a future deja vu, or even be kept as a memento of a life that once passed yours or the other way around.
