LFW passed 3 months ago a bit late to blog this but perhaps she really is one of my favourite knitwear designers out there.

Her Knits are so futuristic and damn I wonder what kind of machines she uses, at least I can say that this september in the early hours of saturday the 19th. She presented one of her strongest collections to date, to a packed crowd at the Topshop Newgen location.

Looking at the pictures you can see the clear references between the baroque curlicues which were on exhibit at an exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London whilst looking at images of Madonna and her 1980’s inspired point bust cups whom Jean Paul Gaultier designed. Whilst the colours were on trend with all major London Fashion Designers sharing the same colour schemes.

She crafted the cloth using fibres such as Colorific and Lurex to create sheer and shimmering fabrics whom she then draped and pleated around the female body and the collection is her result. Whilst having lace adorned stockings and Swarovski elements in the matching spike shoes.

Hopefully we will see more of Louise Goldin’s stuff in shops as the collection was gorgeous and certainly breathed a breath of fresh air into the knitwear category across fashion week.

thanks to www.catwalking.com for the images!

London Fashion Week (LFW) is likely to be one of the most important dates in the calendar of any celebrity stylist or fashion consultant, as well as people like us who adore seeing the latest collections.

The same could also be said for designers and Richard Nicoll has revealed to Vogue what the event means to him and how his creations have developed over the years.

During his time showing at LFW, he says that he has been able to "hone" his signatures and eventually create a collection that "felt very much like the end of a volume of work and a consolidation of everything that I have done to date, but more refined and new".

He also says that it is interesting to see how LFW has progressed and how, in his opinion, the event’s 25th anniversary represented "slick professionalism and quiet, chic design".

Nicoll has designed for Topshop in the past, so you can pick up some of his dresses to add to your wardrobe if you’re a fan of his collections.

Do you agree with the designer’s opinions on one of the most important dates in the fashion calendar?

Since the much celebrated and successful 25th Anniversary of London Fashion Week this year, many top designers such as Matthew Williamson, Pringle, Antonio Berardi and Jonathan Saunders are flooding back to show their latest collections, at the next event in February.

It really shows that the hard work put in by The British Fashion Council (BFC), of supporting both new and more established design talent has paid off, with the good reputation of the fashion Capital staying firm. Not only great news for London Fashion Week, but also the British fashion and retail industry, as attracting plenty of important buyers at this difficult financial time is key.

Louise Amstrup’s a lucky gal. Since debuting her collection at London Fashion Week in 2006, fashion press has been on her jock as a bee is to honey. She’s sucked them in with her ornate collections, and things are about to get better, thanks to a nomination for the Max Factor and Copenhagen Fashion Week New Talent Award.

The Danish fashion designer sharpened her couturier skills under Alexander McQueen, Jonathan Saunders and Sofia Kokosalaki producing a collection inspired by sharp edges, solid grey/black colour palettes and geometric shapes. Her spring/summer 2010 collection incorporated mesh, draping and sci-fi shoulder blades, a trend we’ll be seeing a lot of in the upcoming year.

It’s always great to see new designers getting the recognition they deserve and Christopher Raeburn has stated that he is very excited to receive exhibition sponsorship for London Fashion Week.

Revealing all to Vogue, he says that he is delighted to gain the support from Newgen because it will give more of us a chance to check out his creations.

Mr Raeburn, who first launched his brand in 2008 and recently created a menswear collection with Tim Soar, has been given a stand and an exhibition space at one of the most famous fashion events in the world, which he says he wants to use this to demonstrate the philosophy behind his work, as well as the clothes themselves.

"We are now sampling for the new collection; as well as working with lightweight parachute fabrics the collection utilizes heavy wools, leather and quilting," he told the magazine.

Although we’ll have to wait until February to catch a glimpse, it’ll be great to see close-up the way in which he uses de-commissioned military stock to create his streetwear.

Who else are you looking forward to seeing at London Fashion Week in February?

If you join the UK’s exclusive Fashion Business Club, you’re destined to go very far places. Or , on second thought, maybe it’s if you graduate from Central St. Martins. That’s probably because you’ll have the prestige and support to “rule the world” as they say.

In 1998, Bryce Aime was a young unknown who moved to London from France, now he’s a well-respected fashion designer with his own boutique located in London’s it spot – Chelsea’s Walton Street.
Aime who has a passion for architecture, philosophy and art, amalgamated all these elements into a fashion line that launched at London Fashion Week in 2006. The collection, which draws inspiration from sci-fi aesthetics, is an influx of geometric shapes and monochrome color palettes – ideal for making an entrance into the fashion world.

The self-titled boutique was designed with help of Daryll Amos of award-winning interior design boutique Bentheim with a clean minimalist concept and a cosy, intimate feel. Bryce told Drapers there are plans for expansion in the upcoming year. Well, if you’ve got the resources you should definitely capitalize.

Mark Fast, one of Curve’s newest designers, is in New York City and stopped by to visit us at the Curve Co-Op. We just recently received some pieces from his Faster line and they are flying out the door!! He’s guest blogging for Curve about going to the British Fashion Awards (he was nominated for the Swarovski Award for Emerging Design Talent) and to document his trip to New York for press appointments (and celebrate his birthday in the process) -

It is so great to be in New York. This is such a thrilling city… I feel a new energy that is like no other….

It was such a great moment when I saw my Faster range at Curve the other day. I know that the women of New York are going to have such fun in my collection. I have just come from London where I just attended the British Fashion Awards. What a night that was! There were such great moments. Jerry Hall was at the table next to me, she’s such a glamorous icon. Her daughter Georgia May won Model of the Year. John Galliano got the Outstanding Achievement Award. When I saw the film about his lifetime of collections, I was so in awe and aware of his amazing career. It was an audience of some of the strongest designers and visionaries in the world. Amazing!!

See you soon xx Mark

Tonight we’re taking him to Macao for his birthday!! Stay tuned for updates…

Some fashion houses instantly conjure up certain images and while the likes of Chanel and Dior make us dream of Paris, Burberry represents all things London.

Therefore it may be only fitting that the brand has announced it will be returning to the British capital to showcase its latest collections at London Fashion Week next February.

Until September, chief creative officer Christopher Bailey had been debuting his Burberry Prorsum womenswear ranges in Milan.

But speaking at the British Fashion Awards last night, at which he won the Designer of the Year accolade, he revealed that the brand would be returning to "the magnificent and creative city" that is London.

"There was such an incredible energy during the 25th anniversary of London Fashion Week last September and we were very proud to be a part of this momentous celebration," he added.

We can’t wait to see what this talented designer comes up with next, especially considering he was recently awarded an MBE for his services to fashion by Buckingham Palace.

Are you a fan of Burberry’s designs as well?

Mark Fast, the Canadian wunderkind knits designer who made a splash at London Fashion Week for using size 14 models, has been shortlisted for the Swarovski Emerging Talent Award for Ready to Wear. Every year, the British Fashion Council recognizes an influential and directional designer who is emerging as an influential force in British Fashion. Previous winners include Stella McCartney, Giles Deacon, Louise Goldin, and Antonio Berardi

Mark designs by hand on a domestic knitting machine. His work is formed onto the body as he knits, and he has devised innovative stitching techniques, blending lycra with viscose, angora or wool. He is inspired by the endless possibilities of lycra yarns, sculpting areas of tension and areas of volume over the body. Mark’s fascination with the cinema drives his creative process as he channels the energy of the characters who inspire him into his knits. Obsessed with texture, Mark’s most recent work explores the relationship of garments to the wearers body.

To draw focus to the draping, density and volume of the dresses as they relate to women’s bodies and to challenge traditional notions of fit and idealized body shape, Mark bucked tradition and used size 14 models in his SS10 runway show, causing an uproar at London Fashion Week. To qurote Mark from a recent interview in Sunday Times Style, “Knits have a more intimate relationship with the wearer than tailoring or corsetry. The garment takes on the shape of the person inside it, and the finished look is always a collaboration between the two.”

Mark Fast will be available starting December at Curve LA and NY.

Bono and his wife, Ali Hewson, have launched their own socially conscious fashion label Not long ago

Not long ago, ethical fashion had an image problem. No one wanted to wear baggy-bottomed Thai fisherman’s trousers or an ecru smock top. Unflattering and unappealing, eco-fashion was best left to eco-warriors.

But there has been a definite swing over the past year. Ethical consumerism – from buying products made from recycled or renewable sources to supporting companies that adhere to fair trade principles – is on the rise. It is now cool to care.

So cool in fact, that the latest edition of Vogue has devoted 10 pages to ethical clothing. And London Fashion Week, which starts next week, will include an exhibition space dedicated to 13 ethical labels.

But it’s the celebrities behind the movement who are really making a difference. They’ve made ethical consumerism sexy. One is Bono. Last year, along with his wife, Ali Hewson, and designer Rogan Gregory, he launched Edun, a socially conscious fashion label.

Its clothes are made in locally run factories in Africa, South America and India and the company promotes trade rather than aid. The range is brilliantly designed: this autumn there are beautiful Art Nouveau printed silk dresses, elegant tie-neck chiffon blouses, urban skinny jeans and denim trench coats.

This year Bono also launched Project Red, a collaboration between Armani, Amex, Converse, Motorola and Gap. Each brand markets covetable and ecologically sound products under the Red banner; profits are donated to a fund fighting Aids, malaria and TB in Africa.

Project RED’s unofficial face is Scarlett Johansson, who appears in October’s issue of Vogue wearing Armani’s designs for the charity. The actress told the magazine: “We don’t have to live in a teepee and wear a hemp skirt to be conscious about what’s going on. Maybe somebody thinks, ‘It’s cool that she’s wearing the Red T-shirt, I’ll hop over to Gap and pick one up’.”

Gap, which launched the T-shirts in the spring ( parkas, hoodies and jeans will follow) isn’t the only store turning out fashionable and ethically produced clothes. Last week saw the launch of Adili, a website devoted to the top 25 ethical fashion labels, including Ciel, Patagonia, HUG and People Tree, which has a concession in Topshop, Oxford Circus.

People Tree has given the movement a boost with Trudie Styler as its new face. It has designed T-shirts in conjunction with Action Aid; 10 per cent of profits will go to help raise Fair Trade awareness in Asia, Africa and the Americas.

Small, independent fashion labels have also furrowed the green path. Brighton-based Enamore sells everything from pretty hand-made kimono tops to delicate hemp knickers ( far more appealing than they sound).

Chic shoes can be found at ethical boutiques such as Terra Plana, which designs shoes with recycled materials. And rather than squeezing into jeans made from cotton cultivated with pesticides, consumers can now choose brands such as Loomstate, whose eco-friendly designer jeans are sold at Harvey Nichols and Urban Outfitters.

Larger companies are catching on. Timberland, which sells eco-friendly footwear made with vegetable tanned leather and recycled rubber soles, is launching a reforestation project – it will plant one tree for each pair of boots sold.

And Marks & Spencer, which recently commissioned a survey that found that 78 per cent of shoppers wanted to know more about the way products were made, has just launched its own Fair Trade line.

Tesco, meanwhile, is to sell a range of organic clothing designed by Katherine Hamnett, a long-time crusader for ethical fashion.

Of course, it can be argued that eco-fashion is an oxymoron. How can eco-friendliness fit with so ephemeral an industry? The most significant progress should perhaps come from consumers: buying less, and more ethically, could be the most ecologically sound way to shop.

SO WE START OFF WITH EMMA WATSON’S GOLD OUTFIT THAT WAS DESIGNED ESPECIALLY FOR HER BY CHRISTO

SO WE START OFF WITH EMMA WATSON’S GOLD OUTFIT THAT WAS DESIGNED ESPECIALLY FOR HER BY CHRISTOPHER BAILEY, WHICH SHE WORE TO LONDON FASHION WEEK:

(BTW I, Julie, love love LOVE Emma Watson. Yes I am a proud Watsonphile. I think it started out as a jealousy because she had the life I wanted but now it has turned into a full on, make my friends barmy, obsession. So expect to see the darling Miss Watson appear on this blog a lot. I can’t help it. I’m sorry.)

EMMA: I feel that dress doesn’t suit Emma, I’ve not seen a full body shot of her in it before.

JULIE: She looked awesome; I loved it. Plus Chris Bailey designed it just for her.

EMMA: It’s too short for her and cuts her legs off at a funny point. It makes them look odd.

JULIE: It’s a little bit short but it’s cute. I’m glad she wore colour seeing as normally it’s all black and blue, which is like me but I’m not on the red carpet.

EMMA: I think it might be the way she’s standing as well. And yeah, I know, it’s nice to see her in a bit of colour. She used to wear a lot of colour when she was younger; what happened?

JULIE: I know! Sad times.

(SPEAKING OF COLOUR, WATSON WORE A PURPLE VINTAGE DRESS TO THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN PREMIERE IN LONDON’S LEICESTER SQUARE, A BLUE CHANEL NUMBER FOR ORDER OF THE PHOENIX IN LONDON AND A BLUE AND GOLD CHANEL DRESS IN PARIS.)

EMMA: I still love that dress she wore to the PoA premiere; it was so haphazard and awesome.

JULIE: I know, so appropriate for her age. I mean, I wouldn’t wear it now.

EMMA: My favourite’s still the OotP one in London:

JULIE: I love the way she looked at the Paris OotP, but then her hair was gorgeous!

EMMA: Ah, the blue and gold Chanel.

JULIE: Facially, I think she looked the best there; her hair and face were amazing.

EMMA: Yeah, that one’s really nice, one of my favourites, but I still really like the one we saw her in at the London one.

MANY JOURNALISTS REPORTING ON EMMA WATSON HAVE COMMENTED ON THE CHANGE WE’VE SEEN IN HER SINCE SHE FIRST ARRIVED ON THE BIG SCREEN, ONE OF THE BIGGEST CHANGES BEING HER GRADUAL DESCENT INTO THE WORLD OF FASHION, GOING TO MANY FASHION EVENTS INCLUDING AWARDS, PARTIES AND FASHION WEEK.

JULIE: And I loved the BAFTA pre-party Chanel one, especially the Lanvin necklace.

EMMA: She doesn’t change her hair a lot to be honest, except to put it up and I don’t really like it like that. The picture just came up and yeah, she looks lovely; her make-up’s perfect.

JULIE: The actual BAFTA hair was good and her hair at the Chanel 2007 show was amazing! The whole look was so good.

EMMA: The leather one? You would love that. It looked awful.

JULIE: No, it doesn’t!

EMMA: I like her make-up, though.

JULIE: It’s awesome.

EMMA: It’s so completely different to how she normally dresses; it looks wrong.

EMMA’S FORAY INTO FASHION INEVITABLY HAD HER DOING PHOTO-SHOOTS. LIKE TATLER:

EMMA: What was the one where in one of them she had that white jumpsuit on and was leaning against a wall?

JULIE: Tatler, 2007.

EMMA: I liked that.

JULIE: Yeah, she looked older than usual.

EMMA: I really liked the lighting in those photos, and the white dress.

JULIE: The Chanel one on the cover? LOVED that one. I lusted after it for a very long time.

EMMA: I’m not sure if it was Chanel but it does look like it. It’s the one with the deep v-neck – or maybe it’s a wraparound – and she’s got her arms over her head.

JULIE: I’m pretty sure it was Chanel.

EMMA: Her hair looked lush in that photo shoot too, and I liked the grey and white shift with the pockets; I thought that was very her.

JULIE: The see-through one?

EMMA: The grey bit is see-through.

JULIE: I think I know which one you’re talking about and it was gorgeous.

EMMA: I don’t think it’d suit us though because of our figures.

JULIE: Fashion does tend to be made for smaller-chested ladies.

EMMA: Her hair is darker than usual here, right? She looks really sophisticated. I swear it’s not normally that dark, even in the movies.

JULIE: She dyed it brown – very brown.

EMMA: Very, very brown! It suits her, but I love her blonde.

JULIE: It looked good though. A lot of people thought it was a bit too much but I thought, Why not? She looked older than her years but in a good way, not in the Miley Cyrus way.

EMMA: Miley Cyrus’ hair is amazing! What are you talking about?!

JULIE: It is amazing, but she’s quite blatantly trying to be older than she is. What sixteen-year-old pole-dances onstage?!

EMMA: Well, yeah, very true. How old is she now?

JULIE: Sixteen.

EMMA: Still?! She looks crazily older.

JULIE: EXACTLY!

EMMA: It upsets me that I really want to look like a sixteen-year-old.

JULIE: You do look like a sixteen-year-old.

I have a genuine love for new designers. But as I’m scrutinizing an image of Hermione de Paula, I can’t tell whether her blank stare is because she knows she’s privileged enough to get a break or because she’s jaded by all the bull-crap she’s gone through.

A cute girl with a cute fashion line and a cute little dog to match. This Central St. Martins graduate has got experience to boot; she’s been at Galliano, Giles, Alexander McQueen and Christian Dior Couture. She’s a favorite amongst the “fash” pack at British Vogue online and she’s the recipient of the Vauxhall Fashion Scout Merit Award for autumn/winter 2010/2011. She’s got her first standalone catwalk show this upcoming London Fashion Week and she’s got a spring/summer 2010 collection at Browns Focus.

All the excitement galore means she’s got the stamina, she’s a hardworking mama-jammer, but I’m not quite fond of her s/s 2010 collection. Let’s not hate; her previous collections are great, but this collection seems to be boggled down by flora print, tie-dyes or something. Don’t get me wrong, she’s got some seriously hot pieces in there, and when she keeps her concepts to a minimum it’s bang on. But maybe I’m just not fond of floral prints. But then again, I beg to differ because I’m a fan of Erdem.
