IN BED WITH A CELEB

Every fortnight we take a ride through the mind of a creative genius, I have either worked with or just really admire. Here, they get to air everything from their opinions to their dirty laundry. This fortnight I’m having:

A casual tête-à-tête with Femi Oyeniran

Femi, we all love and know you from your debut as Moonie in Kidulthood; tell us what you have been getting yourself into since playing the rebellious London teenager?

Wow! I’ve done a lot, including the sequel Adulthood. Acting wise I have done several plays including Kenzo, Spider’s Web, and Basic. A couple TV dramas Ghost Squad and Golden Hour; and a short film called Father’s Day. I graduated from my law degree at London School of Economics in 2008 and became a sort of advocate for young people. I made a few appearances on news shows ranging from BBC’s Today Programme to Sky News. This has led me to develop (and imminently launch) a programme for young people called I’m That Guy/Girl. It’s aimed at providing information about different career paths. I have written, directed and produced my first short film as well as producing documentaries, music videos, corporate videos and live events. I’m now in the process of completing law school.

I’m so excited about your hilarious documentary ‘Cut the Chat’; tell everyone who’s been hidden in a broom cupboard what its all.

Cut the Chat came about when Damon Elleston came up to me and asked if we could shoot a TV show based at his barbershop D&Ls. Damon is a barber to the stars, his clients include Dizzee Rascal, Common and Adam Deacon. We developed a concept that can be loosely described as Loose Women with barbershop etiquette. The barbershop for black people is like the pub to white people; all sorts of conversations take place within the confines of the environment. The presenters include DJ Ace; Littleman (comedian); Christiana (presenter/blogger); Kymberlee Jay (Choreographer/Presenter) and me. Throw in a special guest celebrity and you have a winner. In short Cut the Chat is an online TV show and once it has been formally launched, Cut the Chat TV will be an online TV channel. Check it out at www.cutthechat.co.uk

When you’re not showing off your talents and dipping your fingers in all the pies, what do you like to do to relax?

I don’t get to relax much, I must say. I go to restaurants a lot, but this is more for work than for play. However, as of late I must admit I’ve been squeezing in the gym. And have tried to hang out with my family and friends.

What was your last cosmetic purchase? Please don’t lie we know men shop for cosmetics too.

I honestly don’t know! Does cologne count? If so, Armani Code a few days ago

I worked with you on Fresh off the Boat; tell everyone how much you love me and my work.

Yes I worked with Dannique on my first short film Fresh off the Boat. I loved working with her, she was amazing LOL! We are actually in the process of raising funds for the Fresh off the boat TV series. I’m really excited about that. My little sister had a lot of say in the writing process; it’s always cool to involve the family.

When it comes to females and make up do you really think less is more?

Less is always more but I won’t hate you if you use make up. Just please stick to the non-excessive side. I don’t like it when I hug women and I have make-up all over my shoulder. Not cool.

Who is your favourite female artist, why and give us a male perspective of her look.

Lykke Li. I just love her music; her album Youth Novels is probably one of my favourites. I didn’t even know what she looked like for about 6 months. I thought she was Chinese or something. Turns out, she’s Swedish and she has model-esque looks. She has a quirky, vintage look. I like that.

So many people admire you. Tell them why they should follow their dreams.

Follow your Dreams because it is worth it!

Tell me 2 things everyone should do before 11am each day.

Bathe. Do at least one thing that brings you closer to your dreams.

Roll Deep has everyone singing about West End Shopping. However, what I really want to know is, is it West End or Westfields where we could find you.

West End is a Classic but I spent most of Xmas in Westfields. I think the fact you can park makes it more convenient. However, West End is still the OG of shopping. You can beat a Classic. West End is timeless!
