I just wanted to sit down and announce my two new packages for 2013. These packages will be for all newborn, family portrait, maternity and HorseCentric sessions for 2013. I will not be taking any holiday sessions in 2013 . I know this might make people sad, but I want to continue to stay true to my brand and what I have created here at FDL. I want to spend more time with all my clients and the mad rush of holiday portraits and mini sessions just aren’t me. I don’t do anything mini! I encourage the families who have booked them with me in the past to schedule a more in-depth family session in the summer or fall. I have come to embrace the idea of only doing sessions that can be hung in your home FOREVER and not just sessions that are used to make cards or are on display for the holiday season only. I really want to make it my goal to get heirloom items that will be passed down from generation to generation into my clients hands. My legacy as an artist lives through my clients in prints , albums and wall art.

HorseCentric- Horse and Rider Portraiture for the serious equestrian only.... Miss Olivia

I met Olivia four years ago when she was just a little girl. I ran into her Mom at a wedding I shot last fall and asked her if she would be interested in doing a concept shoot that I have been planning forever. I was so glad when Kris agreed to let me photograph Miss Olivia, who is no longer a little girl and has grown into a gorgeous high schooler. Also used in this shoot is the family’s two retired racehorses Lunaticonthegrass (aka Luna) and Southern Exchange (aka Sterling- if you click to the right of his name at the top of the pedigree you can see his picture as a young racehorse.) Coming from a strong racehorse background and growing up on the backstretch, I want to stress how awesome it is to see two healthy horses given a second chance at a fantastic life with Kris and her family. I have unfortunately seen time after time not end as well as it has for these wonderful animals. It takes someone with a lot of courage and skill to retrain a racehorse into a new lifestyle. I really admire Miss Olivia for the work she has done with these horses over the last couple of years. I am so excited to have Olivia, Luna and Sterling as the very first Ambassadors of HorseCentric. HorseCentric was conceptualized 4 years ago, and even as I fell in love with shooting weddings and newborns, it never left my mind. I decided this year to start creating a brand that serious equestrians can turn to when it came to wanting fine art photography of themselves and their horses. HorseCentric feels like home to me. I couldn’t wait to finally combine an old love (horses) with photography. I can’t tell you how I wish that I had photographs of myself and my horse, Weather Pending. I know I miss not having those photographs now, but I will miss it even more when I have children of my own and nothing to show them of such an important part of my life. I remember how hard I to worked to purchase that horse and how hard I worked to keep him. I remember how happy I was and not to mention what great shape I was in! I am totally in tune with the commitment and sacrifice that equestrians make in the daily care of their horses. I believe that the partnership and bond between horse and rider should be documented and celebrated. Here are just a few of the photos Miss Olivia will one day (not for many, many years though! ) be able to share with her grandchildren! It feels so good to write that! After her session, Olivia dropped me a quick note to thank me and tell me how pretty that shoot made her feel… mission accomplished!

I am very proud to have Olivia as the face of HorseCentric 2012-2013. You will be seeing a lot of her here at Fleur-de-lees Photography. In return for her session, Olivia has agreed to help HorseCentric grow and her images will be used in magazine campaigns. She is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside and has a great sense of humor. It was a great day shooting with her, even if almost half of the shoot was rained out!( Her sister wouldn’t carry her umbrella! LOL) We still came away with some amazing footage. Olivia told me a typical day for her is that she usually rides one of her own horses after school, sometimes the two of them. Olivia is also usually given a list of sale horses to ride as well. She spends uncountable hours at the barn and is there sometimes until 9-10 PM. Olivia is really hoping to expand her showing career and take Luna and Sterling and hopefully some others to bigger shows this coming season. I wish her the best of luck. I know whatever she chooses as her goals , she will by far exceed them. I can not wait to see her on the circuit and see what is in store for her!
