É interessante como a Microsoft esconde as coisas mesmo depois de anos, não é?
Hoje eu liguei pro suporte deles, o numero 0800 do Brasil e liguei para o suporte norte-americano. Também liguei para os números da empresa. Na suporte do Brasil, embora eu já saiba eu vim perguntar sobre o Longhorn e suas tecnologias, Avalon, Indigo e WinFS ai no suporte o atendente disse que não, não sabe o que é Longhorn, WinFS, Indigo e Avalon. Ai com um pouco de insistência ele com a aquela de ‘O Longhorn foi um Alpha apenas que se tornou Windows Vista.’
Apartir deste ponto ele disse que iria me transferir para algum lugar que parecia ser um centro de ajuda e suporte, nisso eu conversei com um cara lá e disse que seria melhor me transferir para o suporte Norte-America (Oba! hora de usar o Inglês.) então o suporte com a mesma dele se tornar Vista eu pedi para me transferir para alguém da Microsoft. ‘Please, transfer me to person in Microsoft Corporation.’ me transferiram pra Brasil de novo, até que o cara de lá me mandou para a sede no estados unidos.  Ai num troca de conversas finalmente um funcionário de lá resolveu soltar tudo. (Ele disse que eu sou insistente e que isso me ajudou a chegar a arrancar informações deles.)
Vou traduzir um pouco da nossa conversa.

• O Longhorn terá mais segurança?

Sim, o Longhorn, é mais poderoso, uma versão que dará mais confiança aos seus usuários. Dos usuários caseiros a grandes empresas. Os clientes em geral, encontrarão no LongHorn uma facilidade de manuseio, administração e suporte, que reduz custos e tempos nos controles de desktops Windows. Entre as novidades, está a possibilidade de guardar chaves criptográficas e senhas em chips em vez de diretamente no HD. Com isso, as chances dos dados pessoais serem capturados diminuiriam.

Outra coisa é reestruturar o sistema de privilégios do Windows. A idéia é manter o nível de usabilidade do sistema elevado mas sem permitir que os programas possam executar operações potencialmente perigosas sem autenticação do usuário. Uma boa parte dos PCs que rodam Windows XP ou 2000 ficam logados o tempo todo como administrador do sistema, para evitar as restrições de um usuário comum. A idéia seria dar condições para essa situação ser evitada, o que também aumentaria a segurança.

• O Longhorn será mais eficaz e ajudará na minha organização?

Sim, será muito mais eficaz. Os computadores transformaram a vida diária das pessoas que o utilizam, facilitaram, o Longhorn irá facilitar ainda mais. Ele ajudará na navegação e elimirá imediatamente a complexidade da vida diária de seus usuráios. Você encontrará em segundo o que procura – Documentos, meios de comunicação, E-Mails, páginas previamente vistas , etc- . As Novas ferramentas do LongHorn, lhe ajudarão a ver e organizar facilmente suas informações da maneira que melhor lhe faz sentido.

• Como fica a parte de aplicações?

No Longhorn, está se certificando que cada experiência é grande para as pessoas estarem se integrando com larga escala de ferramentas, softwares e serviços. E o LongHorn permite colaboradores alvejar novas oportunidades de negócios com melhorias fundamentais feitas ao modelo de desenvolvimento de aplicação. O longhorn oferece APIs novas que permite colaboradores contruir aplicações Windows mais fáceis do que antes, novos tipos de configuração de aplicações “smart”, conectadas.

• O que é o Avalon?

Bem, em linguagem simples, O Avalon é um sistema visual de apresentação em 3D, que traz janelas transparentes. Segundo a Microsoft, ele aproveitará poder de processamento gráfico não usado em PCs modernos e integrará aplicativos desktop e online. O “Avalon” unifica a maneira de como o Windows cria, mostra e manipula documentos, mídias e a interface com o usuário.

• O que é Indigo?

O Indigo é um recurso que promove comunicação mais fácil entre aplicativos pela internet. Para a maioria dos usuários, o Indigo, porém, será invisível, por se tratar de uma tecnologia para programadores utilizarem como base para desenvolvimento de seus softwares.

Indigo é uma coleção de tecnologias .NET para desenvolvimento e execução dos connected system, é uma infraestrutura de comunicações preparada para arquiteturas orientada a serviços.

Também é a principal estratégia de computação distribuida e comunicação da Microsoft, unificando e aprimorando as tecnologias existente: COM+, EnterpriseServices, ASP .NET Web Services, .NET Remoting, MSMQ e System.Net. Possuirá funcionalidades únicas como por exemplo suporte a Web Services transacionais.

• O que é o WinFS? (Windows Future Storage)

O WinFS é baseado em uma tecnologia do Yukon, (codinome da próxima versão do banco de dados Microsoft SQL Server ) e deverá substituir os sistemas de arquivo NTFS e FAT32, usados nas versões atuais do Windows.

Esse sistema vai usar tecnologia derivada da Internet para que seja possível procurar e catalogar qualquer tipo de arquivo com apenas um sistema, o que deve acabar com a necessidade de usar um sistema diferente para cada aplicação.

Informações de um catálogo de endereços de e-mail, por exemplo, poderão ser acessados de diversos programas, em vez de apenas o software de correio eletrônico.

Os diretórios e pastas serão substituídos com metadados em formato XML permitindo aos usuários encontrar documentos relacionados a tópicos e projetos específicos com maior facilidade.

• Quais os requisitos mínimos para a instalação?

Para a instalação do Microsoft Longhorn, é necessário no mínimo de um processador de 600 MHz, 256 MB de RAM e 3 GB de espaço livre em disco.

• O que é essa tal “barra lateral”?

A Barra Lateral fica em um dos lados da tela e pode ser configurado para conter informações importantes, como listas para o envio de mensagens instantâneas e links para sites favoritos, permitindo que você não fique “acorrentado” as janelas do Windows. Como por exemplo: Você não mais ficará preso a janela do Outlook para ver suas novas mensagens chegando e sim, assim que elas chegarem vão para a barra lateral, isso traz facilidade e agilidade na informação.

Segundo fontes internas e a Microsoft o Longhorn foi o que mais tarde se tornou Windows Vista, mas será?
A história de fato está muito mal contada e agora eu investiguei tudo nos últimos dois anos e descobri boa parte do que a Microsoft esconde debaixo dos panos e que o Longhorn não se tornou Windows Vista.

• 17/09/2001 – 10:31 AM. Compilada Build 3551 > Alpha Milestone 1.
  O Longhorn teve 7 milestone’s e lógicamente cada um era lógicamente melhor que o outro, esta é a primeira build do Longhorn. De fato é importante, pois ela foi o que construiu um ótimo sistema operacional nos builds futuros, digo anos que se passariam, como era de se esperar essa build é exatamente como o Windows XP, mas deve ter alguma mudança ou algo que a diferencie, com excessão do botão do menu iniciar que desde a primeira build era aquele branco.

  Apartir da build 3650 chegamos ao Milestone 2! acredito que seja apartir desta build que a entrada do menu iniciar ‘My Hardware’ tenha sido incluida e faça parte do Windows, sem muitas mudanças até então. Mas que de fato o Longhorn estava a evoluir e neste milestone não tiveram muitas builds como o anterior mas de fato vazaram imagens, a primeira build do Longhorn mostrou as caras. • Milestone 3. Build 3683, compilada em 23/09/2002 as 06:21 PM.
  A primeira build do Longhorn a vazar na internet! e também já integrada com o novo módulo de desktop, chamado de Avalon que mesmo neste momento não tendo ainda o Aero Glass já era um passo importante. O Avalon é um dos novos recursos que deixariam a experiencia de usuário muito mais interativa, empolgante e muito mais atraente. Nesta build ainda não existia o Aero, mas na build 3718 o Avalon mostra o Aero Glass. Essa build 3683 não era mais Alpha e ela foi a unica que trouxe coisas que não foram vistas em mais nenhuma outra build que viria. Todas as builds do Milestone 3.

  Chegamos ao Milestone 4, build 4000. Novas funcionalidades e recursos, novas melhorias e o WinPE (Windows Pré-Installation Environment.) Que é usado até hoje para a instalação do Windows Vista e Windows 7 surgiu nessa época, de fato uma grande jogada foi essa. Pois o WinPE faz uma instalação mais rápida e eficaz do Windows. • Milestone 5. Build 4015, compilada em 28/03/2003 as 05:00 PM.
  O Plex estava cada vez se aperfeiçoando mais e o Longhorn até então estava indo muito bem, havia a nova barra de endereços que já havia surgido estimadamente no Milestone 4 e também o WinPE estava melhorado, nesta build foi incluida a nova tela de logon que por sinal é mais bonita do que a até então existente (Estilo XP com cores diferentes que era as antigas.) E até então não era esperado o que viesse a se tornar no Milestone 6, chegaria a perfeição estética.

  Agora é o M6, a build 4039 atingiu 90% da perfeição estética para o Plex, que estava perfeito e bem combinativo, não sei se eram assim em todas a builds pois a 4039 em termos de estabilidade é um verdadeiro lixo, o explorer constantemente trava em nenhum outro milestone foi assim. Mas nem todas as builds do M6 foram assim pois a 4051 é show de estabilidade, é uma das melhores.

  Aqui é onde o melhor do Longhorn começa! ele apartir do Milestone 7 está incrivel, muito estável e fantástico, há muitas melhorias, Windows Installer 4 o Avalon teve um modo mais fácil de ser iniciado, que se chamada DWM existente no Windows Vista. (Desktop Windows Manager) é o nome completo para o abreviado DWM. PAra inciar o Aero basta ir em Iniciar > Executar e digitar ‘%windir%\I386\Sbctl.exe start’ e usar ‘%windir%\I386\sbctl.exe stop’ para parar. Builds do Milestone 7.

Como foi notável muitas builds do Longhorn tiveram na suas marcas de build a palavra ‘Lab’ esses labs que são de 01 até 07 significavam o que foi mexido na build, veja abaixo o que cada um significa.

OBs¹: A build 3790 na verdade não é Longhorn e nem Windows XP SP1 ou Sp2 beta. Na verdade é o Windows Vista que já era desenvolvido na época e foi compilado em 19/08/2004 em 04:29PM.

(italiatv.it)  Eni ha avviato la produzione del giacimento a gas di Longhorn, situato nel Golfo del Messico nei Blocchi Mississippi Canyon 502/546, a circa 100 km dalla costa della Louisiana. Eni è operatore del giacimento con una quota del 75%. Nexen detiene il rimanente 25%. La produzione iniziale sarà di oltre 5 milioni di metri cubi di gas al giorno, da 4 pozzi a completamento sottomarino connessi alla piattaforma Corral, operata da Eni e precedentemente nota come Crystal. Questa piattaforma, di tipo convenzionale, si trova nel Blocco MC 365, circa 40 Km a nordovest del campo, in acque profonde meno di 200 metri ed è stata equipaggiata per raggiungere una capacità giornaliera di trattamento di quasi 7 milioni di metri cubi di gas e 6.000 barili di olio. Il progetto Longhorn ha iniziato la sua produzione in poco più di tre anni dalla sua prima scoperta nel luglio del 2006 ed è stato completato in meno di due anni dalla sua approvazione. Ulteriori interventi sulla piattaforma Corral ne porteranno la capacità di trattamento a 12.000 barili di olio al giorno, per consentire il collegamento del campo di Appaloosa (Eni 100%), attualmente in fase di sviluppo e il cui inizio di produzione è previsto per il 2010. Negli Stati Uniti, Eni detiene 376 Blocchi nel Golfo del Messico e si posiziona tra i primi produttori con una capacità di oltre 100.000 barili/giorno, il 60% dei quali provenienti da campi operati. Eni è inoltre presente in Alaska con interessi in 172 blocchi nell’offshore e sul North Slope e sta procedendo con il progetto di sviluppo di Nikaitchuq. Nel 2009 Eni ha siglato un accordo con Quicksilver Resources, un produttore indipendente USA di gas naturale, partecipando con il 27,5% allo sviluppo dell’area “Alliance” che produce gas non convenzionale (gas shale) dalle Barnett Shales nel bacino di Fort Worth.

Kelly Williamson’s Race Report from Longhorn 70.3

It is a cold, dreary, rainy Monday morning in Austin today; the morning after Longhorn 70.3. All of those whom competed, spectated and volunteered are probably quite happy that this weather did not hit 24-hours earlier. On the contrary, we lucked out with an absolutely perfect day for yesterdays event of 2500 people.

Derick (husband and fellow racer today!) dropped me off at the lake/swim-to-bike transition at about 5:45, and he then drove himself to the arena to park and take a shuttle. Nice husband he is…he did not get back to the lake (start area) for over an hour! Seeing that my start time was 7:30 AM, I would have been flipping out had I of rolled in there at 7:00. It was a rather dark and chilly (but not cold) morning. In all reality, it was ideal weather. The swim was wetsuit legal for both pros and amateurs, so I put on my sleeveless Zoot  wetsuit around 7:00 and headed to the water. I often opt for sleeveless in any water temperatures above 70-degrees, as I get warm pretty easily. Once the Run Far gang corralled the pros back behind the timing mats, we made our way into Decker Lake for the in-water start promptly at 7:30.

There was no real ’start line’, so when the countdown started (“10, 9, 8″) and everyone (men and women together) began to inch forward (with comments like, “It’s not me, it’s the current!”) I had to laugh when Joanna Zeiger yelled out, “OH, come on, guys! Seriously!” She had a point, but what could be done? I started inching as well. I need all the help I can get with the starts, especially with men. Unfortunately, I had a horrible start, got somewhat buried and pushed by the crowd into the first buoy. I’ve got great, steady speed in the water, but when it comes to fast, brutal, crowded starts, I do not fare so well. I finally found some clean water after about 5 minutes and settled in, as usual, solo! The swim distance was very legit this year, but I did not ever feel phenomanl. I just tried to keep on pushing, getting stronger as I went, and actually looking forward to the bike (my how things have changed over the years).

The big question I found myself asking as I came to the finish was, wetsuit strippers or not? In Canada, I used them and they could not get the suit off of my feet. So this time, I ran by them, in part because I knew I had a few women ahead of me and I did not want to sit down. However, I got to my bike and fumbled for what seemed like minutes with getting my suit off my ankles. Note to self: Cut the ankles higher. I got onto my Orbea Ordu, still only the second race with the new bike, rather, shall we say, angry? (putting it nicely). I knew there were a few women ahead of me, and I also knew they were strong on the bike. I put my head down and just rode, as hard as I could, within reason. I stuck to my regular nutrition plan, plenty of water and about 6 gels in the course of the 2.5 hrs on the bike. I know for some professional women, a 2:30 bike split is nothing to write home about. But it is all about improving within onself. Last year, I did a 2:39. So this year, I will take 2:32 and run with it. There is something about my Orbea in which I feel I can truly push power that I have not been able to do in the past, very comfortable in the TT position. I exited the bike, headed out on the run, and heard that I was in 9th or 10th place; not at all where I had hoped to be. But, what can you do except keep your chin up, stay focused and execute a plan? That I did.

I ran through the Luedecke Arena (Keith Jordan had the finish line indoors in the arena, a very cool setup!) for the 3-loop run course. I could see a few women up ahead, but I knew that the top few women were quite a ways up on me. I definitely had my work cut out for me, but the legs felt strong. I pushed out for the first few miles, up and down (the course was not too often flat, mostly rolling hills and some dirt/rocky sections) and moved into about 6th place after the first loop. Better, but still not where I wanted to be. The crowd support was amazing! My husband Derick agreed with me, it was so motivating and awesome to hear our names by so many people cheering for us. I was feeling strong, checking my mile splits occasionally, and knew I was running about as fast as I could without blowing up. I stayed on top of my nutrition, which was a gel flask with 4 gels in it. I tried to sip on it about every 2 miles or so. I could tell each time that Joanna passed me in the opposite direction, I was gaining on her, but probably not quickly enough to catch her. And the amazing bike split of 2:16 that Heather Jackson threw down was very tough to gain time on. But, I kept plugging away. With about 2 miles to go, I started to pick it up a bit more, and at mile 12, I just put it all out there. I knew that no one was in my sight, but I like to know I have left it all on the line. I approached the arena, ran through the finish chute and raised my arms in thanks to all those cheering. There is always something to be thankful for after finishing any race.

It was not the finish that I had been seeking at this race, a huge hometown event. I ended up 4th, only about 1 minute out of 3rd, but with a 1:19.45 run split, a PR for me. My race overall was 4:21, which is another PR overall time next to Augusta. I cannot complain. We cannot control who shows up, who is going to have a stellar day, and what our bodies are going to give to us on race day. We can control how we react to situations, what our attitude is and what kind of fight is within us each and every time. I never like to make excuses; and today, in Austin, I did all I could to finish my absolute best. The support of the crowd, my family who was here (my mom, sister Robin and 6-year old nephew Will), my husband Derick racing, and all of those in Austin who have helped us out the past 3 years made this a great day. A big thanks to all of the Jack and Adams crew for their hard work in helping this race come together; especially Adam, the announcer. I think that Adam expended more energy than any of us racing!

And a big congrats to all who competed on Sunday. The vibe of this event (disco aid stations, crowd support galore, and hills hills and more hills) truly epitomizes Austin. Keeping it weird, but at the same time, extremely supportive of each and every competitor. If you have not raced in Austin before, put it on your 2010 calendar! We can’t tell if people in Florida prefer the Flamingos or if people in the Wild West prefer the Longhorn, but it seems certain that people somewhere scary chose these Monster Boots (see below)!

The Flamingo Boots are most popular with both boys and girls, with well over 6,000 people acquiring them altogether. The Monster Boots, more popular with girls, came in second with about 3,000 people. Last, but certainly not least, over 2,500 people loved the Longhorn Slippers.

Durata Training athletes took to Austin, TX this weekend for the Longhorn Ironman 70.3 race with excellent results.  Some athletes were looking for PR’s, others an opportunity to complete their first 70.3 race.

The course showcased some of the best riding in the Austin area and completed with a 3 loop run course that was either up or down…no in between.

Longhorn 70.3, Austin TX:

John Turlington shaved a stellar 18min off of his time from last year with a 4:54 over all. This while focusing much of his season on bike racing!

Britta Harrison stepped up to the challenge of the 70.3 distance for the first time this weekend and  despite a hectic work schedule that has her traveling nearly everyday of the week Britta put together a great race with a 5:25 finish good for 15th overall in the super competitive  W 30-34 field.

Brett Hatton had never done a triathlon before…much less a 70.3 race, but there he found himself at the start line ready for the challenge this weekend. Brett was a part of the Gathering of Titans group competing in the event. Brett not only had the challenge of having never done a triathlon, but a bike crash 2 weeks prior to the race and subsequent shoulder injury put the race (and all of his hard training) in question. However he didn’t let a crash stop him and stormed through the course with a 5:53, 7minutes ahead of his 6hr finish goal!

Benjamin Palmer ran his way to a top 15 finish in the 20-24 AG with a very solid 5:13 over, strong enough for a 14th over all in his AG!

Susan Wallace out of Houston learned how to overcome adversity (unfortunately 4 min ‘drafting’ penalty, those officials were tough on Sunday) to finish strong in the W 45-49 AG.  It is hardest on those days that things do not ‘go our way’, but she stuck it out and persevered; great work, Susan.

Dwight “Beaux” Benson taught us all a thing or two about strength and courage on Sunday finishing his first Half Ironman, this just 9 months after a bike crash left him in a coma for over two weeks. Beaux’s comeback has been an inspiration to us all and we know this is only the start for him!

Last but not least our own Kelly Williamson continued her impressive year with a 4th place overall in the woman’s pro field. Kelly scorched the run course with a 1:19 run split propelling her to a 4:21 overall time, in the process beating her husband Derick who came in 4 min later…!

SOMA Half Marathon, Tempe AZ:

George Bradbury threw in a half marathon as part of his preparation for IMAZ in November, despite a cantankerous valve extender while changing a flat tire, George was still able to power his way to a 4:59 finish, earning him a 12th overall in the consistently challenging 45-49 AG.

Cinco Ranch Sprint, Katy TX:

Jacqueline Fein continues to add hardware to her already impressive 2009 campaign with a win in the W 55-59 AG!
Arnie Lachner in only his 3rd triathlon ever charged his way to an 8th in the M 50-54 AG!

Friends, I have waited for this moment for a very long time (sounds rather cliched eh?) Ok let me rephrase it; I’ve always longed to be a published writer and the dream is almost coming to fruition. My very first book a biography/autobiography – someone tell me what to call it as it is written in the first person – of the celebrated blind athlete Henry Wanyoike ,Victory Despite Blindness (Sasa Sema/Longhorn), should be out today – that is what the publishers told me – and I can’t wait to lay my hands on my copy, er, copies.

They however sent me an image of the book cover, which I am sharing with you. If all goes according to plan, the book should be on sale during the Nairobi International Marathon on Sunday – remember Wanyoike is an ambassador for the race – I will also try my hand at running the 10 kilometer race, purely for selfish reasons.

 Wildseed Farm

Continuing with the whole butterfly theme, we had a much more pleasant experience with them once we reached our destination outside of Fredericksburg, TX.  If you haven’t been to Wildseed Farms, http://www.wildseedfarms.com/index.html , about 7 miles east of Fredericksburg on Hwy 290, I highly suggest it.  It’s an enchanting family outing in the Texas hill country set amongst wildflowers, beautiful landscaped gardens, a great gift shop, speciality foods, and butterflies!  They have a butterfly “haus” (get it?  It’s near a historic Texas German town…you see a lot of that spelling for “house” around Fredericksburg).  Inside the haus is a butterfly garden paradise, definitely worth the price of admission.  There are at least a dozen species and so many of them that it’s like a dazzling firework display in slow motion (fortunately, none of them explode).  All those tiny colorful wings just fluttering everywhere, it is truly breathtaking.  There are docents inside that enjoy sharing information about their small captives; thereby enhancing the educational visit.

During our walk among the Wildseed Farm “trial plots” we discovered the most butterfly prolific plant – the Blue Mist Flower.  No where else on the grounds did we see more Monarch butterflies buzzing about them among those.  It is really no more than a weed, but butterflies just love it!  We’ll be looking for that plant in the springtime.

Wildseed Farms claim they are the largest working wildflower farm in the U.S, with 200 acres at their headquarters, and another 800 acres in Eagle Lake.  Although our visit did not coincide with their wildflowers blooming in full season, it was well compensated with manicured wildflower landscaping.  We visited on October 18, during the Monarch Butterfly Celebration, held in conjunction with the University of Kansas project known as “Monarch Watch.”  We participated in the tagging of a monarch and watched them being released. 

We learned a few things from the Monarch Watch (http://monarchwatch.org/biology/cycle1.htm) representatives .  Not all monarchs migrate.  There are genetically different species.  The “summer generation”  just have the usual life span of a couple of 2 – 5 weeks.  While the “final generation” live about 8-9 months.   What determines the change has something to do with the temperature in which they are born.  In addition we found out how the butterfly’s sex is determined – see below:

Monarch Watch had a give-away drawing in which our youngest, Lauren, had her name selected.  She choose a butterfly guide book,which she proudly took to school on Monday to show her 2nd grade class.  Her faced beamed when they called her name.  There’s nothing like watching the thrill on a child’s face when they feel special: eyes light up and a permanent grin remains long after the moment is gone – a glow remains for hours.

LBJ Memorial Park

After our 3 hour excursion at the wildflower farm, we continued our family outing at LBJ Memorial Park (http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/ class=”hiddenSpellError” pre=”">spdest/findadest/parks/lyndon_b_johnson/)  , just a few more miles east on 290.  We enjoyed a hamburger cookout with two neighboring Longhorns and a few flies.  Our oldest announced that it is much more fun to eat indoors away from the outdoor pests–Miss Wilderness USA, she is not.  We attempted to cook out over a grill with some mesquite wood we had, however, the fire did not come in time, so we cooked it with a propane cook stove.  Finally, after an hour, the fire was going and we roasted all of 4 marshmallows because we ate too much and Charley forgot the graham crackers for the s’mores.  Although he may claim that it was my fault for placing the graham crackers in the pantry, rather than leaving them in the shopping bag with the rest of the cook-out food.  We debated that one for a while until we both agreed that no one is completely to blame (although I still think it’s HIS fault).

After stuffing ourselves we visited The Sauer-Beckmann Farm – Rural Life, 1900-1918, just a walk over from our picnic site.  It was like we stepped back in time,visiting our country “neighbors.”  The setting is as real as they could make it.  There are staff and volunteers dressed in

period outfits and just working the farm like it were yesteryear.  Life was all about surviving; they had to make everything they needed to live.  The experience increased our appreciation of how much easier it is to live with our modern appliances and easy cooking.  In a minor way it reminded me of Charley and my Peace Corps experiences where we had to wash clothes by hand and prepare food from scratch.

Have you ever seen grapevines in Texas wrapped around  a live oak tree?  It’s Texas’ answer to Tarzan in the jungle.  Those vines are so strong they support a good deal of weight, they really more like a tree than a vine.  If live oaks weren’t so strong there’s no way they could survive the vice-like grip of the vine.  The girls and myself tested the strength of those vines as our last endeavor for our trip.  We had a great time monkeying around.

All in all our Sunday journey to a part of the Texas hill country was full of fun, laughter, new experiences and learning.  Welcomed sleep was the last of our experience when we arrived back to our comfortable home.

If you check the latest rankings for the favorites for this year’s Heisman Trophy, the name at the top of the list is Florida’s Tim Tebow.  While that does not pose as much of a surprise to anyone who has paid attention to college football the last four years, the statistics for Tebow and many others who are not on the watch list may be a bit of a surprise.

Going into the 2009 season, the three favorites to bring home the coveted award were the top three finishers in last year’s voting, Heisman Trophy winner, Sam Bradford from Oklahoma, Texas Longhorn quarterback Colt McCoy and Tebow.

Bradford’s chances at a repeat fell dramatically when he was knocked out of the first game of the year and subsequently missed the next three games with a sprained shoulder.  McCoy has again put up solid numbers, but he has seen a bit of a dip slightly from his stats from a year ago.  McCoy could make a strong impression this weekend in front of a national television audience in the Red River Shootout against the hated Oklahoma Sooners, but as of now, he is second on the Heisman list to Tebow, according to most experts.

A closer look at Tebow’s stats this season, however,  begs the question:  Is the Heisman Trophy supposed to go to the best player or the most popular one?  While the Florida Gators have been the number one team in America since the preseason, Tebow’s stats are a far cry from elite, not only in the country, but in his conference and even in his own state.

Tebow’s 155 passing yards per game rank him 96th in the FBS, and eighth in his own conference.  In fact, the only great statistical game Tebow has managed was against Troy, where he completed four of his seven touchdowns on the year.  If you take out both cupcakes, Troy and lowly Charleston Southern, and focus on the three SEC opponents the Gators have faced (Tennessee, Kentucky and LSU), Tebow is averaging 124 yards passing a game with two touchdowns and two interceptions. 

On the ground, he is averaging 4.1 yards per carry and 79 yards per game.  There are 59 quarterbacks in the FBS that are averaging more than that just in passing yards.  That is an average of 203 yards of total offense. 

Notre Dame’s Jimmy Clausen has led an Irish team with a very average defense to a 4-1 record this season.  He is averaging 308 yards per game with 12 TDs and two interceptions, and he has kept the Irish in every one of their games, including the last second, heart-breaking loss to Michigan in week two.  

Finally, Tony Pike is getting some serious Heisman consideration (google images)

Until this week when ESPN’s Robert Smith discussed it, very few experts had mentioned Cincinnati’s Tony Pike as a threat.  Pike has led the Bearcats to a 5-0 start and is averaging  just under 300 yards per game through the air with 13 TD’s and only three interceptions.

What may be the most surprising is that Tebow is statistically a far cry from the being the best QB in the state of Florida.  Miami’s Jacory Harris has quietly led the Hurricanes to a 4-1 start.  Harris has been great in every game except the monsoon in Blacksburg when the Hokies held him to 150 yards.  In that game, not only did Harris face one of the best defensive coordinators in the country in Bud Foster, he also had to deal with Mother Nature.  The entire game was played in monsoon-like conditions with steady rain and gusting winds.  Still, Harris has 25th in the nation in yards per game.

The other QB that may surprise a lot of people due to his team’s record is Florida State’s Christian Ponder.  Through the Bobby Bowden retirement soap opera and the ‘Noles’ travesty of a defense this season, many outside of Tallahassee have not recognized what the junior signal caller has done thus far. 

Ponder currently ranks 11th in passing yards per game with 9 TD’s and only one pick.  He has added another 123 yards on the ground and more importantly, Ponder has kept his team in every game this season, despite an inconsistent running game and one of the nation’s worst defenses.

Finally, ESPN has Jimmy Clausen, Tony Pike and Jacory Harris on their watch list, but they may want to check the stats before the put Tebow on top again.  Unfortunately, the very mediocre stats will be downplayed by ESPN and the rest of the media and Tebow’s leadership and charisma will be brought up. 

What should be considered instead is who is the best college football player in the nation.  Who does more for his team and does more in big games?  The stats don’t lie, but if the season plays out like it has and the Heisman race plays out like it looks like it may, ESPN’s Erin Andrews may want to see if she still has eligibility left.  Her popularity may make her next year’s Heisman front-runner.

Namun seiring banyaknya yang mengeluh tentang jeleknya tampilan default XP banyak pula yang membuat program atau visual styles agar tampilan XP bisa menjadi lebih segar dan menarik seperti windows vista maupun windows 7, dan ada juga tidak sekedar membuat visual style tapi dibuat semacam transformation pack yang merubah tampilan windows XP seakan-akan berubah hampir 100% seperti Vista atau Win7.
Sekedar berbagi, beberapa waktu lalu saya meng-utak-atik CD XP (sp2) punya temen yang dah error di dalamnya masih bisa terlihat dan bisa difungsikan ada file yang bernama Theme/setup101.exe. saya coba menjalankan program tersebut dan hasilnya Wowwww… ada tambahan buat themes XP. Menurut saya theme yang ada dalam program tsb tidak membosankan dan cukup bagus daripada menggunakan Transformation Pack. Sekedar itung2 wat tambahan themes jika suatu saat dah bosen.

Longhorn com suas descobertas após o lançamento do Windows XP em 2001 era para ser lançado em 2004,mais dizem que erros no código do Longhorn foi o motivo do cancelamento do que seria o novo Windows(invés do Windows Vista).

O Windows Longhorn ia ser o melhor!Mais ainda é para aqueles que o tem em mãos.O meu amigo Rafa do Vida Digital fez um relatório sobre o Longhorn e esse relatório é a coisa mais principal desta postagem.

Bem, primeiramente o Longhorn tinha o mesmo kernel(Nucleo) do Windows XP. Sendo baseado no Windows e com o kernel mais poderoso e refinado suas fuindamentais tecnologias eram Avalon, Indigo e WinFS.

WinFS – O protótipo.
O WINFS é a personificação de um pedido de mais de dez anos de Bill Gates, que desejava um sistema de associação de idéias e conteúdos mais parecido com o modelo humano de pensamento. Pessoas não pensam em pastas e sub-pastas e sim assuntos relevantes e suas correspondentes informações. Todo tipo de conteúdo pode ser alvo de busca, seja um documento de Word, uma ficha de Contato de Outlook, o texto de um email, arquivos de som e vídeo etc. O segredo está no mecanismo de banco de dados que organiza todas as informações usando “meta-dados” para permitir este cruzamento bem versátil de dados.

Um caso clássico até então mal resolvido é localizar todas as informações relacionadas com uma certa pessoa ou contato, incluindo documentos do Office, mensagens enviadas e recebidas, etc. Imagine um centro médico que tem centenas de casos de pacientes …
… compartilham informações comuns, trabalhos acadêmicos, históricos de casos clínicos passados associados etc. No sistema tradicional de pastas um trabalho associado à doença de um paciente deveria ser copiado em cada pasta de paciente ou guardado em um lugar especial, separado dos mesmos. Longhorn – Comunicação e Componentes (INDIGO)
Um pouco mais distante do usuário final está o módulo de comunicação do Longhorn chamado de Indigo. Esta parte do sistema operacional é vital para empresas e desenvolvedores pois todo o modelo de componentes e serviços, locais e distribuídos se baseia nestes recursos. Há inúmeras novidades relacionadas a arquitetura, segurança e performance. Os desenvolvedores terão um imenso ganho de produtividade pois no Longhorn as tarefas de codificação que envolvem serviços remotos e segurança exigirão cerca da metade do esforço de codificação. Desta forma permitirão o aperfeiçoamento das aplicações que hoje trabalham com Web Services, componentes remotos, viabilizando o uso cada vez mais intenso de soluções realmente distribuídas e baseadas em um “mundo conectado”.

Longhorn – Interface (AVALON)

O primeiro paradigma quebrado pelo Longhorn é a sua camada de apresentação, ou a interface com o usuário,chamada Avalon. Foi substancialmente modificada, principalmente nos batidores como naquilo percebido pelo usuário. O famoso “systray” foi deslocado para a direita, recebeu também novas atribuições (foi rebatizado como “Sidebar”), dentre elas um nostálgico relógio analógico e muita flexibilidade para exibir informações e customizações. Mas as novidades estão mais profundas que somente a parte visual. A integração de mídias com conteúdo é o destaque, indo mais longe que o que existe hoje. Ainda existem vários elementos herdados do Windows XP na interface mas deverão sofrer algumas mudanças até o produto final. Não podemos esquecer que esta é uma versão “Alpha” do produto, bem preliminar. Pessoal achei um modo muito legal de mudar os ícones do XP sem
mecher na Shell32.dll do Windows.Esse modo de transformação de ícones ó pod ser aplicado com o TuneUp.Mais é muito legal e modifica até os ícones de Discos Locais.

Para aplicar os ícones basta baixar o pack deles e extrair.Após extrair é só aplicar clicando em Apply no TuneUp Styler.

Pessoal finalmente estou começando a andar para frente com o Seven Master Pack!Desta vez estou lançando o Seven Explorer for XP 1.0.Antes de lançar o pack do Longhorn 4074 o meu amigo Rafa criou duas versões do Explorer Mod.E eu resolvi criar a minha primeira.Vou tentar deixar o pack o mais leve possível.Mais eu não posso esquecer de nenhum dos recursos como o Notepad(bloco de notas)ícones(shell32.dll,que eu ja tenho pronta).
Estou colocando as minhas coisas agora somente no DeviantART.E eu acho bem melhor lá do que em outros servidores;
