Desperate Housewives est une série crée par Marc Cherry, diffusée sur la chaîne américaine ABC, et sur la chaîne française M6.

Cette série retrace la vie de femmes au foyer très différentes, par les yeux de leur ex-voisine et amie, Marie Alice Young, qui s’est suicidée. Il n’y a pas d’histoire générale pour toute la série. Il y en a une pour chaque saison, mais celle-ci passe au second plan, car chaque épisode comporte une intrigue a lui. C’est en cela que Desperate Housewives est bien une série et non un soap.

Le titre de chaque épisode illustre l’intrigue de cet épisode. La narratrice prend la parole au début et à la fin de l’épisode et fait le lien entre les protagonistes et le titre.

Desperate Housewives est à ranger dans les séries comiques, mais c’est une série comique atypique. Pas une sitcom avec rires pré-enregistrés, ni une série qui se prétend être une comédie sans faire rire. Desperate Housewives fait rire grâce à ses personnages et aux situations dans lesquelles ils se retrouvent. Certes, au fil des saisons, le comique semble se répéter.

Mais malgré tout, au delà de l’aspect comique, Desperate Housewives est une excellente série.

Here’s something that might help avenge the travesty of Derek Jeter winning a Gold Glove: Aaron Hill and Adam Lind were named Silver Slugger Award winners yesterday. The awards, voted on by coaches around the league, are handed out to the players with the best “overall offensive value” at each position.

Of course, this also leaves me feeling slightly better about an otherwise horrible Jays season, though still not too optimistic about the one we’re about to embark on next April. At least we have our two mashers, though — Lind, who hit .305/.370/.562 (AVG/OBP/SLG) with 35 homers and 114 RBIs in 2009, may be in for a move to first base if Alex Anthopolous is able to move Lyle Overbay, while Hill (.286/.330/.499, 36 and 108) will keep doing his thing at second base.

Anyway, here’s the full list of Silver Sluggers:

American League: Joe Mauer (C), Mark Texeira (1B), Hill (2B), Evan Longoria (3B), Jeter (SS), Jason Bay (OF), Torii Hunter (OF), Ichiro Suzuki (OF) and Lind (DH). (Note how six of the nine were Gold Glovers, further supporting the assumed theory that the awards are given out to the best fielders that can hit. Not a Gold Glover in my books

Here’s something that doesn’t come as a shock, mostly because we’ve come to expect garbage like it: Derek Jeter was awarded a Gold Glove yesterday, despite having about as much range as Troy Glaus. Here’s the thing with Gold Gloves, though — they’re not given to the best fielders at each position, they’re given to average-to-good fielders that can hit (such is the reason Johnny McDonald will never win the award, even if he was a starter). That, and guys that make few errors, mostly because they don’t get to many balls. Jeter falls into both those categories, so maybe he’s perfect. Anyway, ESPN baseball genius Rob Neyer echos my sentiments in his SweetSpot blog (Well, maybe I should say I’m echoing his sentiments. Either way, we both think it’s stupid.)

Anyway, here’s the full list of American League Gold Glovers: Joe Mauer (C), Mark Texiera (1B), Placido Polanco (2B), Evan Longoria (3B), Jeter (SS), Torii Hunter (OF), Ichiro Suzuki (OF), Adam Jones (OF) and Mark Buerhle (P).

Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria Parker and her husband, NBA San Antonio Spurs point guard, Tony Parker, have been tapped to appear in the 2009 London Fog holiday marketing campaign, marking the couple’s first fashion campaign together.

“It was fun to work together,” Eva says the series of saucy snaps shot by photographer Nino Munoz at Milk Studios in Los Angeles. “London Fog is always classy and beautiful, and we knew we were in good hands for the campaign.” And the fashionista put her stamp of approval on the collection, enthusing “the coats and bags were gorgeous; I am a huge fan of trench coats and all the London Fog trenches were amazing.”

London Fog features outerwear, handbags, footwear, luggage, children’s outerwear, cold weather accessories, home, eyewear and umbrellas. The collections retail from $150.00-$350.00.

Company bosses couldn’t be more pleased to have the duo on board. The #3 San Antonio Spurs is the other team who gets that the NBA is a window league and how their window is closing. So R.C. Buford gave an awesome example during the summer about how to give his stars a last chance to compete for the championship.

On the best move of the offseason, the Spurs traded Bruce Bowen, Fabricio Oberto and Kurt Thomas to the Milwaukee Bucks for Swingman Richard Jefferson. Jefferson comes to be another score because he’s such a good shooter and very athletic. Just another weapon to this already loaded squad.

San Antonio also signed Antonio McDyess and Theo Ratliff in free agency which comes to show how interested they are to cover all the angles. McDyess is one of those players who became a fashion in the NBA after the PJ Brown effect: older guy that can rebound, defend and be a good influence inside the locker room. Ratliff is just a goaltender. He’s 18^th all time in blocks, fifth among active players, and comes to improve the defense in their second unit and be on the floor to defend leads.

On top of the moves, Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili have been resting all the summer. This shouldn’t mean too much though. Duncan had an All Star performance during the first half of last season but then all of a sudden just looked really old and Manu is just the way he is: made of glass.

The Spurs have the deepest team in the NBA. They are dressed in every position: fast PG, shooter, inside the paint presence, 6^th man, coach and deep bench.

After a three championship run, year in and out on the Western Conference Finals, the Spurs are a franchise that could easily take the rebuild road but decided not to. Even with banged up guys like Duncan and Ginobili which also means that Poppovic is also near the end, San Antonio reloaded and gave Tony Parker even more weapons to try to make their sunset even more beautiful. Don’t expect from them the top spot of the West in the Regular Season because that’s not what they want to but if everything goes according to the plan, the walk to the Finals are cleared. San Antonio is the scarier team of the league.

La organización no lucrativa World Monuments Fund (WMF) publica cada dos años la llamada Lista Watch con los 100 lugares históricos del mundo más amenazados. Esta lista es recopilada por expertos en arqueología, arquitectura e historia del arte y sirve como llamada a la acción, atrayendo la atención pública internacional. La inclusión en ella supone para muchos lugares en peligro la única esperanza de supervivencia.

La Lista Watch del 2008 mostró que la actividad humana, en concreto, el cambio climático, el desenfrenado desarrollo urbano e industrial y los conflictos políticos, se ha convertido en la mayor amenaza para el patrimonio cultural mundial.

De todo esto hablará mañana jueves, 24 de septiembre a las 19.30 horas en el Palacio de Condestable, el arquitecto y director de proyectos del World Monuments Fund en España Pablo Longoria, en la conferencia organizada por el Ayuntamiento de Pamplona Los 100 monumentos más en peligro en el mundo.

Desde Pamplona 2016, te invitamos a asistir a ella y te animamos a visitar la exposición que se inaugurará ese mismo día, centrada en uno de los lugares que forman parte de esa lista, Lima; una ciudad en la que la contaminación y otros factores están destruyendo monumentos arquitectónicos y disminuyendo la calidad de vida de una manera alarmante.

Día D, Hora H. Todo lo que se ha hecho hasta ahora no servirá para nada. Si juegas bien lucharás por las medallas. Si lo haces mal, te vas para casa oliendo a fracaso. Francia viene invicta y jugando un buen baloncesto. Rápidos al contraataque y muy físicos, cuando Tony Parker está en cancha parece que todos se multiplicasen por 6. Hasta Ronny Turiaf las enchufa, jugador vulgar donde los haya, pero muy peleón, muy machacón, muy Felipe Reyes. Se las verá con Pau Gasol y con Marc Gasol. Al primero le conoce ya que estuvieron juntos en Lakers y sabrá que es muy difícil pelear con E.T., pero al resto les va a dar el partido. No nos va a dejar ni respirar.

Francia viene de muy atrás. Mientras nosotros jugábamos amistosos desde el 13 de Agosto (que tras este Eurobasket queda claro que es tontería tanto tiempo de preparación) ellos ya jugaban partidos oficiales a modo de preeuropeo. Físicamente, tienen un puntito más y tácticamente también. Hasta Boris Diaw parece que hace caso a lo que le dicta el entrenador. Irregular con su selección, intercala partidos brillantes con auténticos bodrios ¿Qué hará contra nosotros? Veo a Mumbrú como vital. Él, junto con un denostado pero aclamado por el público Victor Claver, son los únicos 3-4 que pueden defenderle con ciertas garantías. Yo confío en que Alex hará un buen papel. Como la selección, está yendo de menos a más.

Muchísimo cuidado con el balance defensivo. Como ya he dicho, son balas a la contra, especialmente Nicolas Batum. De brazos rápidos y potencia física descomunal, titular en los Trail Blazers de Rudy, defiende duro para salir escopetado. En carrera es muy difícil pararle, con lo que habrá que estar muy atento a las pérdidas de balón. Si evitamos que corran y no hacemos estupideces en el pase (esta va para ti, Ricky) nos llevaremos el partido. Porque detener al novio de Longoria, con el nivel que han demostrado los tres bases, se me hace imposible. Mejor centrarnos en el resto.

¿Qué pasará? En mi porra pongo que España ganará de 8. ¿Y vosotros? ¿Seguís en el barco?

Situación atípica la que se ha dado en el seno de este grupo en donde el teórico último clasificado, Francia, parte como claro favorito para pasar de primero de grupo ante rivales nada desdeñables como son la cada vez más débil Alemania, la sorprendente Letonia y la actual campeona de Europa, Rusia.

Francia probablemente gane los tres partidos si bien Rusia puede que le pelee el liderato. Lo inquietante de este grupo es saber quién pasará como tercero: Alemania o Letonia. Los bávaros aunque mantengan el bloque, cada año, cada competición son más viejos y esta vez además cuentan con la baja del MVP de la NBA 2006-2007 Dirk Nowitzki. Sin el Maverick, Alemania se queda en una perita en dulce. Sólo los veteranos Hamman y Greene podrán sostener a este equipo si bien la aportación del jugador del DKV Joventut Jan-Hendrik Jagla pasará a ser vital para las aspiraciones teutonas. Interesante el concurso de Lucca Staiger y de Elias Harris, jóvenes promesas que juegan en la NCAA. El resto, para olvidar.

Muchísimo más interesante es la participación de Letonia. ¿Por qué? Porque Kaspars Kambala ha vuelto como Arnold Schwarzenegger en Terminator 2. El ex – Madrid tras cumplir su sanción de dos años por consumo de cocaína vuelve al máximo nivel Europeo una vez concluido su periplo por el mundo del boxeo. Hay que recordarle como un jugador con unas cualidades óptimas para la práctica del baloncesto, pero con un nivel de locura importante. Todavía se recuerda en la capital de España la pelea que tuvo con Felipe Reyes y que luego siguió en el vestuario con su compañero de equipo Alfonso Reyes que intentaba defender a su hermano. Si está centrado, es un gran ala-pívot que además va con la vitola de héroe nacional. Solo hay que ver que en su vuelta a las canchas, ya la lió petaca.

Además Kambala está bien rodeado. Acompañándole por dentro se encuentra el magnífico pívot de los Golden State Warriors Andris Biedrins. A pesar de sus 2,13 metros tiene una gran movilidad lateral lo que le hace capaz de defender a pívots grandes y pequeños aunque su mejor virtud es el ataque, con un gran tirito desde cinco metros. Por dentro se encontrará el recién fichaje del Fuenlabrada Kaspars Berzins, al que tendremos oportunidad de verle en acción y de criticar si es apto para la ACB (o no). Otros grandes conocidos por nosotros son el que será el base sustituto de Ricky en el DKV, Valters y el escolta del Bizkaia Bilbao Basket Janis Blums. Dos grandes tiradores que ya han demostrado su valía en la ACB y con los que se tendrá que tener cuidado.

A los vigentes campeones no les doy ninguna oportunidad de aparecer en el medallero. Sin sus dos estandartes, Kirilenko y Holden y tampoco sin grandes jugadores como Savrasenko, se enfrentan a defender el título únicamente con la bandera de Rusia por delante. Todavía cuentan con buenos jugadores exteriores como los aleros del Khimki de Scariolo, Sergey Monia y el nacionalizado Kelly McCarthy ,y su gran estrella será el ala pívot (aunque tirador) del CSKA de Moscú Viktor Khryapa. Les doy como segundos por su competitividad y su conocimiento del juego, no por otra cosa, ya que veo capaz a Letonia de disputarles el puesto.

Por último, los teóricos primeros. Francia es un equipo plagados de jugadores NBA que si bien no cuentan con mucho protagonismo su potencial es indiscutible. En este grupo se encuentran los Batum, Turiaf o Petro, jugadores que siempre pegan un salto de calidad con su selección. Luego está el subcampeón de la NBA Mickael Pietrus, hermano del jugador de Valencia (que también está en la lista) Florient Pietrus. El primero de ellos posee una gran intensidad defensiva (es el que dio el golpe a Pau Gasol en las finales) e importante potencial ofensivo, algo que ha ido mejorando cada año. Y acompañando a los Gomis o Foirest se encuentran las dos grandes estrellas del equipo: Boris Diaw y Tony “oh la la” Parker.

Este año Diaw se vio metido en un traspaso que lo llevó a Charlotte y perjudicó su proyección e importancia en la NBA, pero sigue siendo un jugador buenísimo. Aunque para bueno bueno, el marido de la Longoria, uno de los mejores bases del mundo. Su calidad se ha visto reflejada este año en los Spurs. Parker, por motivos físicos se ha tenido que perder muchos partidos y eso los de Popovich lo han notado y una barbaridad. Defensa, dirección, anotación…el mejor base europeo de la historia, varias veces campeón de la NBA siendo MVP de unas finales.

Lo que le falta al gran Parker es un título con su selección ¿por qué no llega? ¿Por qué a pesar del equipazo Francia nunca hace nada? Muy sencillo. Francia juega sin sentimiento de equipo alguno. Muchos de estos jugadores vienen de colonias Francesas, apenas han pisado su país y como dijo Fred Weis no se sabían ni la letra del himno. En el momento en que peleen por un objetivo común, serán peligrosos. Si siguen jugando para el lucimiento individual, caerán en semifinales.

I have to admit I am disappointed by two things last night:

1. Joe Mauer was my sleeper pick…that didn’t work out too well

2. Albert Pujols didn’t win, didn’t even make the finals

Now, I didn’t have a clear cut favorite last night but I have an admitted man-crush on Pujols so I would have loved to see him win it, especially at home. But I was really pulling for Mauer, don’t ask me why because I really don’t have a reason…maybe it was just the thought of a hit-for-average guy out slugging the big boys. Either way the 2 guys I was pulling for didn’t come through.

I was extremely impressed with Cruz and Fielder…wow those guys can hit. As soon as Cruz asked for his pitcher to throw it a little harder he started blasting shots that rivaled McGwire’s performance at Fenway in ‘99. Prince is a beast and he hit some shots that I still can’t believe, when he gets into a ball he really gets into it. 503 feet is all I have to say. I hate to dwell on the Pujols thing but…if he told his pitcher to throw it probably 7-12 mph faster, he would have won it all.

To wrap up the preface to the All-Star Game Preview I have to say I enjoyed last night’s Derby, even though there were no Hamilton esque performances or towering numbers put up (in terms of homers) there were plenty of moonshots hit that made me and every fan stand up and yell as soon as they came off the bat.

Overall Grade: B+ Not the best I have ever seen but not the worst. Brandon Inge being in it drops the grade, I can’t believe another AL hitter wouldn’t enter it. The Cruz, Fielder extravaganza is the only saving grace for the event even though the Celebrity All-Star Game was a pleasure to watch too.

It’s tough to really say who has the better team when you are breaking down the line-ups for the All-Star game. After all, these players are the cream of the crop for their respective leagues. I am going to be ridiculously tedious with the lineups but don’t worry I won’t do the same for the benches.

1. Ichrio vs Hanley: For traditional “lead-off” hitters the AL has the advantage here. Both players are incredibly skilled batters who have game changing ability when they are in the box, one with his speed and at-bat presence the other with power. However, you have to give the edge to Ichiro he has more patience at the plate and will wait for lincecum to come to him in deeper counts, plus he knows how to be a lead-off hitter and the importance of having the first batter of the inning on base.

2. Jeter vs. Utley: As you all know I am a die-hard Yankee fan and you will probably think my opinion of these hitters is skewed but I am giving the edge to Utley here. I love Jeter and his ability at the plate but Utley is a machine, although he is prone to the strike-out, he drives the ball deep to all fields. He has the speed advantage and more game-changing ability than Jeter plus he will see more pitches to drive with Pujols batting behind him.

3. Mauer vs. Pujols: Mauer is right up there with the best hit-for-average players in the bigs, but then again so is Pujols. Pujols is the best player in the game right now plus he is at home and probably wants revenge after his lackluster performance in the derby, sorry Mauer, your great but Pujols is better.

4. Teixeira vs. Braun: Great match-up here. I have to give the advantage to Teixeira though, he has more patience at the plate and knows situational hitting better than Braun. Braun is a great hitter but strikes out a lot, Teixeira will draw more walks plus he is batting lefty against a righty, a luxury that Braun doesn’t have.

5. Bay vs. Ibanez: This is where the line-ups start to get interesting. Bay is batting way below Ibanez (in terms of average) but has better power numbers than him, tough to argue because of Ibanez’s injury though. I have to give the advantage to Ibanez here, lefty against a righty plus he is so locked in right now. And with Hamilton and his struggles batting behind Bay, Jason may see some pitches that don’t come near the plate, same can be said with Wright batting behind Ibanez, although Wright is only struggling in the power department.

6. Hamilton vs. Wright: Hmmmmm…this is very intriguing. Although I love Hamilton and his power I have to, and I hate to do it, give the advantage to Wright. Even though his power numbers are down he is on fire at bat and isn’t battling back from injury like Hamilton is. Both hitters strike out from time to time but Hamilton hasn’t hit his stride yet and Wright is among the league leaders in average, hate to say it but advantage Wright.

7. Longoria vs. Victorino: I am not trying to take away from Victorino and his abilities but he isn’t really supposed to be in the starting lineup, I know it was voted on but he doesn’t compare to Longoria. Victorino is a scrappy hitter that can be a nuisance once on base, but he has to get there first. Longoria is one of the best hitters in the game and can take any pitch out of the park. The only advantage that Victorino has in this matchup is that he is a switch hitter, but that won’t mean anything during the course of the game. You can’t deny how great Longoria is and how dangerous he is at-bat, Victorino doesn’t scare anyone when he is in the box…except maybe CC Sabathia.

8. Hill vs. Molina: Well the Molina brothers aren’t really in the game for the offensive prowess, except for Bengie and that is debatable. So the advantage easily goes to Hill here, I know Molina is having a good year at the plate but nothing near what Hill has done. Neither batters are feared by any stretch of the imagination but at least Hill can run down the base paths and make a ground ball interesting. Hill gets the advantage by a landslide.

9. Lincecum vs. Halladay: Lincecum gets the advantage, both probably won’t bat in this game making this position in the batting order useless but hey it’s still fun to talk about. Halladay hates hitting so if he does bat don’t expect him to swing, therefore Lincecum gets the advantage any way.

Starting Pitchers: Lincecum vs. Halladay: Probably the match-up everyone wanted. Both are electric pitchers who are fun to watch and must be devastating to try to hit, which means more fun for the viewers. I will keep this short and sweet, I think the advantage goes to Halladay. Halladay has been here before and he is one of the best if not, the best pitcher in the MLB right now, plus he has seen most of these guys at least once over his career. He knows when and how to throw pitches in certain situations and can get a strikeout when necessary. Don’t get me wrong I love Lincecum and think he is amazing but I have to take the vet in this one, he won’t be nervous about getting the start and he might be auditioning for his new ball club and fans when he takes the mound.

Reserves: Both are pretty evenly matched except that the AL definitely has less power on the bench but a whole lot more speed and guys who can get on base and cause havoc. The NL has tons of power, they probably have more power in their 3 back up 1st basemen (Howard, Fielder, Gonzalez) than the AL has on their whole bench. After carefully studying the reserves I have to give the advantage to the AL, and this is not just because I want them to win, I will assure you of that. They may lack traditional power but don’t be fooled they have guys who can put the ball out, but what really sells me is the amount of hitters they have that hit for average. Many of these guys are contact hitters who will get the ball in play and make the NL defenders get rid of the ball quickly. The NL lacks speed and power doesn’t always win, the AL has a deeper set of reserves and also many role players who can be shifted around if necessary. If it comes down to a battle of the benches, and the AL pitchers can keep the power bats guessing, I believe the AL has the distinct advantage in this game.

Bullpen: Haren and Santana…that’s all I really have to say. Both of these guys have had success in both leagues and will be coming out of the bullpen tonight in relief of Lincecum. If the NL can pitch to their ability and keep the AL bats at bay they win. If this game becomes a pitching contest, which it rarely does, I don’t see the AL keeping up with the shear dominance of the NL pitchers. Haren and Santana out of the bullpen that’s really scary and that’s what gives the NL the edge here.

ASG Winner: Shouldn’t be a surprise but I am picking the AL. The NL wants a win badly this year but the AL has too much depth off the bench and guys that are role players. I really don’t see the NL winning this one unless they jump out to a decent lead early on in the game.

AL MVP: Justin Morneau:Power hitter than has long ball ability but can also shoot a double down the line or in the gap to drive in 1 or 2 runs. With him coming off the bench after they take out Teixeira he is a huge asset and a great candidate for the AL MVP.

NL MVP: Ryan Howard:Charlie Manuel knows how to use this guy and when to put him in at the perfect situation. If the NL is losing early and continue to in the 8th or 9th inning expect Manuel to save him for that opportunity especially if Mo comes in for a save or to keep the game tied. Howard’s long ball ability to both fields and clutch hitting make him an ideal candidate for the NL MVP.
