I honestly couldn’t tell you how I’ve done it, but I appear to have somehow discovered the secret of eternal youth.

You heard it here first!

No, I don’t have a picture of myself aging in my attic (a la Dorian Gray), nor was I born old and have been getting slowly younger like Benjamin Button. And, to my knowledge I have never drunk from the fountain of youth.

Yet, I appear to be looking younger as I get older. Well – that is, if checkout staff in various outlets across the land are to be believed.

Lets check out the evidence;

May 2008 – ID’d buying beer for a BBQ in Sainsbury’s Colchester (they ask for proof of age for anyone who appears to be under the age of 25)

August 2008 – ID’d buying beer at Esso Garage, Exeter (they ask for proof of age to anyone who appears to be under the age of 21)

June 2009 – Bottle of wine in Sainsbury’s (again – they ask for proof of age for anyone who appears to be under the age of 25)

July 2009 – ID’d Entering a pub in Camden. The lower age is 18 there.

August 2009: Cigarettes in my local newsagent (the legal age to buy ciggies is 18 in the UK – which implies that I look 17! And no – I wasn’t buying them for me!)

Last weekend - ID’d for a bottle of wine in Marks & Spencer (they ask for proof of age for anyone under the age of 25)

Yet when I actually was an underage procurer of legally sanctioned drugs, I very rarely got ID’d for anything.

So – aside from possibly exposing my drinking habits – this overwhelming evidence clearly illustrates that I am literally looking younger as I get older.

I can’t pretend I’m not chuffed to bits about this – being an elderly 27 years of age and all.

(When I find out how this miracle occurred I will, of course, share the secret on this very blog)

I met a new neighbor this past weekend. I can’t remember her name and of course she probably remembers mine. It will be super awkward when we see each other and she says hi and says my name and I will only be able to say hi back.

She told me about how her daughter was going to start college next year so I tried to throw in some neutral things: Oh, I looked at tons of colleges, oh I liked that school too, oh I hated the application process. Those kinds of things. But then she threw in the question, “When did you graduate high school?”

Ahhhh the dreaded question. She might as well ask when I was born. See it’s too impersonal to ask someone how old they are. And you don’t always want to ask when they graduated college because people are on the five year plan, they take time off, or they didn’t go to college. But high school is safe. Everyone graduated high school. And then you can figure how old a person is.

So I told her 2001. Her face dropped and she said, “Oh, I was going to introduce you to Cindy a few doors down who graduated from the same high school in 1987, but I…” and then it was all a blur for me. Inside my head I was shouting, “I was four years old in 1987! Do I look like I am 40 years old lady? Do you look at me and think, oh I bet she’s 40? What the heck?!”

Then to make it even better, right as I was leaving she asked me my maiden name and my last name. Yea, go Google me lady because Google was around when I was in school!

Of course baby face Joe thought the story was hilarious.

So, I am obviously all about gluten-free when it comes to my food… well, what about my beauty

So, I am obviously all about gluten-free when it comes to my food… well, what about my beauty products?

About 6 months ago my eyes started to itch. I bought drops, I went without make up- nothing helped. They were red, they hurt, and felt really dry. It made me wonder if gluten and other chemicals in my cosmetics hurt me even without eating it. So, first things first, I switched to a gluten-free face lotion. That worked! But as soon as I began putting on makeup, my eyes began to bother me again.

I couldn’t tell if my mascara had gluten in it, and I had no luck when I looked online. Have you ever read the ingredients to your own tube of mascara?!! What the hell is in it anyway?!?! There are so many chemicals, so many things that I can’t even pronounce, it began to worry me as to what I was really stroking onto my eyelashes everyday.

I also began to look online and found a lot of articles that said most mascara companies use tiny doses of dangerous ingredients- including mercury!!!! YIKES.

Since going gluten-free with my foods, and even eating 90% organic and all-natural, I feel better and I look better too. It made me curious if using organic/all-natural makeup would make my skin look better in the long-run and keep it looking younger and healthier. We’ll see, but for now, I found a mascara sent from heaven: It’s called Pure Soul Mascara by Afterglow.

This mascara comes in black or mink and is alcohol free, paraben free, synthetic dye free, perfume free, mercury free, phthalate free, mineral oil free, tar free, petrochemical free, and last but not least, gluten-free. I don’t think you can get better than that. I mean, with all the harsh chemicals in regular mascaras, what if that eventually leads to eye problems- as simple as slowly losing your eye sight? I don’t wear glasses or contacts right now, and it just seems like it would make sense that if I kept putting tiny bits of mecury on or around my eye every single day that eventually it would damage my eye sight little by little… right?

Pure Soul Mascara Pros: It’s the best all-natural (and gluten-free) mascara I’ve ever tried. It goes on easily, doesn’t clump, looks pretty and natural. It has a light feel about it, and has never made my eyes itch or hurt. Truthfully, I feel really beautiful when I wear this mascara because not only does work well, but I know it doesn’t have scary ingredients that could hurt my eyes in the long run. I like to use the black mascara and I bump the look up a notch by using an eyelash curler before I apply.

Pure Soul Mascara Cons: Like anything worth buying, it comes with a high price. It costs $21 a tube, but I still think it’s worth it. Instead of investing in high-priced, designer make up (the ones that have pretty names in pretty bottles… but still filled with dangerous, beauty-diminishing ingredients), I think that investing in a high quality mascara that might help me stay looking younger and feeling better is worth $21. Another con, it does have a slightly different consistency than regular, grocery store or department store mascaras. Not necessarily worse, but different. Again, I think it’s worth it to embrace a little bit of change if you know that you’ll be keeping your eyes healthier and happier in the long run.

I am so glad that I found this mascara! I threw away all my other tubes and use this one only. My eyes are a lot happier.

Afterglow Cosmetics also has several gluten-free lipsticks that I now use- I’ll review them soon.

XOXO,
Scarlett

At least 85% of one’s longevity is determined by lifestyle factors, and some people are willin

At least 85% of one’s longevity is determined by lifestyle factors, and some people are willing to do anything to live longer. Some even resort to the calorie restriction method, wherein one feasts on a mere 800 calories or so per day. While this sounds appetizing, there are many of us who would rather be happy, energized centarians. What if you could life longer by taking a pill? As it turns out, you can. It may be that daily vitamins can increase our longevity via telomere protection.

One of the secrets to longevity may have been right under our nose all along. A recent study published in the Americal Journal of Clinical Nutrition suggested that vitamins may help promote telomere length, thereby increasing our longevity. Telomeres protect your chromosomes from being damaged, kind of like the ends of your shoe lace strings keep the shoe lace from being unraveled. The longer your telomere, the longer your life. In fact, it has also been suggested that our real age can be measured by telomere length.

The study showed a significant correlation between Vitamin C and Vitamin E intake and increased telomere length. Vitamins C and E are both powerful antioxidants which protect the cells against free radicals. Those who ingested higher levels of these two vitamins seemed to have significantly longer telomeres, and therefore, greater longevity. The most likely reason for this finding is the fact that free radical damage is often the cause of aging and the beginning of degenerative disease processes.

Let’s go back for a moment to explain this concept. When we eat, breathe, or engage in unhealthy behaviors, free radicals are released that can damage our cells. The top causes of free radical damage are:

smoking nicotine

chronic emotional stress

prescription medications

environmental toxins

overexercise (i.e., serious and professional athletes have a 75%ish greater chance of degenerative disease)

sleep deprivation

trans fats, refined sugars

alcohol and substance abuse

These interest me greatly in my line of work because most of these causes are behavioral. In fact, 5-6 of these causes are maladaptive coping behaviors that I often see my clients using when feeling anxious or depressed. Chronic emotional stress alone places an enormous amount of oxidative stress on the body, but the behaviors that people often use such as poor diet, sedentary lifestyle, and alcohol or substance abuse increase the free radical load significantly.

Protecting one’s cells against free radicals is probably the best approach to looking younger and increasing longevity. This begins with awareness of the top causes noted above, behavioral modification, a diet high in organic, brightly colored fruits and vegetables, and proper nutritional supplementation. Due to the depletion of mineral levels in our soils, it is impossible to get the optimal amounts of antioxidants and minerals from food alone these days. Nutritional supplementation can fill in the gap, but the quality of the supplement is equally as important as the amount taken.

I have discussed the importance of high quality supplements which contain optimal levels of nutrients as opposed to those established by the RDA in recent articles, but this distinction deserves added emphasis. Those that I use are found here.

Always use a supplement manufactured under pharmaceutical GMPs, and rank your supplement in the third party book called Nutrisearch: The Guide to Nutritional Supplementation. This book is found on Amazon.com, but if you would like to see how your vitamin compares with all others, write to me in the comment section here and I’ll look it up for you.

Get a makeup lesson – Doing you makeup in the same old and tired way can make you look just that. Go to a body shop party and get made over, or just pop into your local department store and ask for some tips.

Splash face with cold water before makeup – This shrinks fore and allows makeup to glide on more seamlessly. It also gives less room for pores to get clogged up.

Drink Decaff – Doing so will allow you to get a better night’s sleep.

Do not use soap on your face – Doing so will dry out your skin, stick with your cleanser and toner to remove dirt and makeup.

Call your friends – Having a talk with your friends on the phone, gets your brain working and keeps your social life fresh.

Don’t skip breakfast – Eating breakfast is the best way to boost your metabolism and if you eat plenty of complex carbohydrates you’d stay full until lunchtime.

Avoid stress – Stress makes us frown and that leads to wrinkles. Try and stay away from the people and things that make you so stressed. For example, if weaving your trolley around stationary people and avoiding hitting children in the supermarket stresses you out then do your shopping online.

Keep your skirts below the knee – Mini skirt may have suited you when you were younger but now they should be left to those still in their twenties and below.

Invest in a good pair of jeans – Find a decent pair of dark, boot cut jeans that will lengthen your legs and make you look taller.

Avoid hair cuts that are all one length – Get layers. Hair that is all one length tends to give the impression that you are wearing you hair like you did when you were a child.

100. Enjoy life – Doing so can help you to keep active, smile and be positive.

Hi everyone, I’m new here. I made this site for 2 weeks this weekend.

I have 2 children, boy, aged 3 years and 2 months. I struggled with my weight since the birth of my first child. I went from 107 kg to 190 2 weeks before I delivered. In a pre-pregnancy size, 2-4,

I was in size 16 blocked for 3 years. Finally, in April, I had enough and began working on crazy, and unfortunately, I just eat more and eat sunflower seeds and water. terrible, I knowledge, but it worked and I could not stop because I have numbers, and my pants were literally at each stage. I was desesperate! In July I was 135 lbs. In September, because I found my BF 130, what I did and fear, literally force myself to eat. So I started to eat again, taking me.

In October, I learned I was pregnant again. This time This, I saw what I ate, and I still won a lot. I was 175 lbs. I left the hospital, 166 lbs. Since then, I have tried to lose weight, I am not supplements, as breastfeeding. But I am very aware of what I eat. Yesterday I saw my bf pizza because it was my birthday and I refused to go.

desesperate I am, but I am happy not only because I am breastfeeding, but because I have the energy to cope with my children and I do not want to kill me in the process. I’m depressed and I’m driving all around me nuts, what I talk about weight loss , and I weigh myself 10 times a day. I’m obssesed and completely freaking out. I am here, stuck at 149 kg, and I do not know what to do, I go for jogs and walks daily, and I force. I have videos, Billy Blanks 8 minutes of video, I did not 4 times.

My Goal / Challenge is to lose 40 kg (39) in November, I think there is enough time for them. But I am doing a complete overhaul of the body, Gotta Go my weight and I am going to enjoy

Thanks!
<br

Wendy
/>

Well, I’m updating my progress …

I did it like crazy, and I have not increased at the level yet. Plan Sunday … I hope to have this plateu. This is the second that I did. First, I was stuck at 151.6 if you’re on 149.8, I’m still here! Since July 20, ugh!

I walk about 3 miles per day, and try to provide 5 tomorrow, we’ll see if my children together. I am still pushing the stroller and the other on his career. This May have contributed. I will start logging my intake tomorrow and see what I’m doing wrong. I am for the loss of 10 kg 1 September, and I will succeed and maybe even beyond.

Good news, I tried on a pair of jeans before pregnancy, and they are neither too loose, as before, but not too close to be. I did not suck, to close. They are a size 7 / 8 woo hoo! I was so happy that I left home when the races … and I can draw my 14s without unbottoning … <img src = "http://www.weight-loss-forums.com/images/smilies/icon_surprised.gif" alt = ": o" title = "Surprised"
/>

Anywho … I try to download an image, I think it is better later. Good night and good luck!
<br

Wendy
/>

30 weeks pregnat why I still .. .

28th May 2007 166 lbs …

direction, but much work!

Well, to me a little better, by small steps, I joinder a challenge, ending on 1 September from 149 lbs (although when I finally weighed myself, I realized that I was back to 151.2) to 139 lbs. Well … As of this morning, I weighed in at 147.2 yay! I have had my ass, but it pays off. I’m so excited

I know I can do this in November does not seem so far away, I just take, and I know I get it. Better still, the LBS does not just sit here.

later!
<br

Wendy
/>

I want to lose least 40 pounds of Thanksgiving …

I’m home to visit family …. It is a year to see how they are. I really want to be thinner, then …. But I have to stay motivated.

I was touched by your post, with 17 was, I stravation the way to the Battle of the Bulge .. he has worked so well that I went in the wrong type2 diabetes Weightloss a program plan, mineral water, rice cakes and Diet Pepsi, plus 3 hours rigorous daily exercise. Yes, I went up to 110 pounds, if you, like me, anorexia, without a diagnosis. I am happy with your BF, as my mother, who is ending. That is why I am here and have a story to tell today.

I invite you to learn some techniques for relieving stress, which in turn will take you back to your model diect healthier lifestyle and help you with your program objectives for weight loss and restore peace of mind, make your self-esteem and appreciation. Check out IBreathe-In.com, he spoke of stress and more user-friendly approach, such as biofeedback and meditation tools to assist and accompany you on your way Weightloss Program.

Today, at the age of 39 years back and I now, with the weight loss the fight, and today, but not the final destination of my program Weightloss goal, I’m just around the corner around 4-5 months — and no more, and in sizes 12 / 14 and I wear sweaters in the middle / T-shirts. I chose / choose an alternative lifestyle and allowed me to lose the excess baggage, literally and figuratively.

I am over 85 pounds since February 2006, and I did it through an overhaul of life in which the metaphysical practices help earth-centered and stress in my daily life, no matter how large or small.

Meditation is a part of my daily life today, such as daily exercise with a personal trainer, my bike, walks in nature, hiking and meditation eliminate foods that do not heal, and have no nutritional value for me, no flour, no refined sugar and no red meat. I eat mostly a vegetarian diet with some fish and chicken. Choose foods low on the glycemic index (Paperback can now use this book, it is very easy to use), and I listen to my body. And reacts with the melting of the fat and skin, as well as dynamic a clear, healthy mind happy. Yes, body and spirit work together so well, not links.

I also found tools such as biofeedback, stress, often due to negligence or bad eating habits that seem useful. Check out IBreathe-In.com is a great program I like biofeedback very good offer, it contributes to the so-called alpha and theta waves, which promotes relaxation, visualization, creativity, meditation , intuition and memory.

I hope you find this useful as I have shared … The weight is more a symbol of the fat, we hate, we must love ourselves as we are now and celebrate the beauty, as we are now, though …. and have tools and new decisions reallize You can get everything and anytging a happy and healthy physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, no separation together! Good luck!

I’m looking Comments schemes that can help to lose fat fast.

love to hear comments on weight loss pills? How it works? What does not?
Joehutel Hey,

I think I am fair to say that different pills work for different people. From reading a variety of forums, here, I learned that the pill does not work for everyone. However, I read many reviews Cylaris, since it looks like an amazing pill. I would like to try, but I am currently BF my baby, I’m going to have to wait.

Both my cousin and her husband has lost about 25 kg in one month of the Atkins diet, I lost, and only 10 kg, the first time I’ve done for the second time I lost 1 lb
unfortunate
Last year I tried Hoodia, and the first 2 bottles works like a charm, I was not hungry anymore. But if I am in my third bottle, it no longer works. So I bought some liquid, well, I never went and bought a second bottle.

One thing that helps to drink water, lots of water! Not only will it help you lose weight, but it will help your skin and organs.

I hope that you respond quickly, take care and good luck!
<br

Skin Renewal Secrets You May Not Know The formation of wrinkles and creases on the face are certainly a part of aging, however we don’t have to sit back and let them run rampant. There are many different products and strategies that can keep you looking younger, longer. You can work to prevent wrinkles and treat the ones that you already have. In many cases uneven skin tone and a dry texture accompanies the other side effects of the aging process. Luckily all of these complaints can be addressed.

If you enjoy a glass of red wine now and then, you’ve probably heard of resveratrol, a component found in grape skins that may help protect your heart, nourish your skin and even help normalize your blood sugar. We have l free trial offers on this page for the leading products that contain resveratrol along with other natural ingredients that are worth your consideration, especially if you want to boost your vitality and keep your skin glowing and fresh. Resveratrol is even found in some weight loss products because of its benefits. It certainly can’t hurt your skin, especially if you take it via supplements rather than by drinking wine. One top secret of skin rejuvenation is exfoliation. There are plenty of products on store shelves that exfoliate the skin. When you exfoliate, you remove dead skin cells to reveal younger, newer skin. You can even make your own natural exfoliant by combining a skin-safe oil like olive or jojoba with sea salt or sugar. Common natural ingredients used for sloughing the skin include apricots and walnuts.. Exfoliation is done anywhere from weekly to daily depending on the product you’re using. In addition to regular exfoliation, it is necessary to keep the skin moisturized. Dehydration makes wrinkles more prevalent. Drink at least 8 glasses of water daily and use a topical moisturizer that suits your skin type. Many daytime moisturizers have SPF in them which is a necessity because sun damage makes the signs of aging even more noticeable. Experts recommend wearing sunscreen every day, even when it is cloudy outside.

(Drafted from www.dailymail.co.uk)

Products that make your locks more youthful are the latest fad, but be warned – it’s all hokum

Over the past year, you might have noticed a new trend on the shampoo shelves of your local Boots store.

Back in the dark ages, you had products aimed at normal, dry or greasy hair, then came volumising, straightening and curling versions, next up were the colour specific ranges for blondes, brunettes or redheads.

But now we’re seeing an increasing number of haircare ranges whose labelling would seem far more at home on a pot of face cream: Charles Worthington Time Defy, Frederic Fekkai Ageless and Alterna Caviar Anti-Ageing are just some of the products at the forefront of what appears to be a growing beauty trend.

That’s right, anti-ageing haircare. You can see how, to the marketing men, anti-ageing products make perfect sense.

After all, between 2002 and 2007 the fastest-growing sector of the facial skincare market was anti-ageing, increasing by 67 per cent to reach a value of $14.9billion (£13 billion) globally, so why wouldn’t the haircare industry want to cash in on our quest for eternal youth?

The difference is that hair is dead cells and has a lifespan of four to five years at the very most.

Essentially, if a 25-year-old and a 50-year-old both have hair that’s ten inches long, the tips of their hair will all be pretty much the same age – approximately 20 months, given that, on average, hair grows half an inch a month.

But according to Sara Botham, of Alterna, you don’t have to be old to use anti-ageing haircare.

‘When we talk about ageing hair, we’re not necessarily talking about the age of the person,’ she explains.

‘Hair can be aged in a number of ways – there’s the environment, UV damage and pollution, which can damage hair; there are chemical factors, such as straightening and colouring, and then there’s chronological ageing as well.’

She explains that treatments, such as colouring, can leave hair dry and damaged, but that anti-ageing hair products help to replenish this moisture and improve the condition of hair.

All this makes sense, but it still doesn’t explain what distinguishes an anti-ageing product from something that, in the old days, would have been called a product for dry or damaged hair.

According to Frederic Fekkai, the difference is that anti-ageing haircare should not just repair damage, but actively prevent it happening in the future.

‘My Ageless line is specially designed to combat the three signs of ageing: biological, environmental and mechanical,’ he says.

‘It visibly corrects the first signs of ageing (dryness, damage, dullness and uneven texture), while proactively protecting hair from daily stressors that accelerate ageing, such as colour and chemical processing, heat styling, pollution and radiation.’

For an independent view, I turn to trichologist Philip Kingsley.

‘What many people call ageing – chemical and environmental damage and so on – I call “weathering”,’ he tells me.

‘And while whatever age you are your hair is subject to weathering, an older person may be more likely to have weathered hair.’

‘This is because as we get older, the hair follicles produce thinner hair, which is inherently weaker and has less body and volume than thicker hair.

‘As a result, you’re more likely to colour it or have a perm, and these processes will weather hair more, leaving it finer, dryer and more damaged.’

However, he also explains that nothing you put on the hair is actually going to change its physical structure. But products can coat the hair, and thus add volume, shine and body to it.

‘If you really want to try and diminish the effects of age on hair growth, the best thing you can do is eat sensibly,’ says Philip.

‘Eat protein for breakfast and lunch, take supplements designed to boost hair growth, and regularly apply a scalp mask, massaging the head to improve circulation and boost the supply of blood and nutrients to the follicles.’

Ultimately, I have no doubt that the products billed as anti-ageing can cosmetically enhance the appearance of your hair in a number of ways, and maybe even protect it.
And perhaps if your hair is fine, damaged, coloured and dry, it makes sense to buy a single product that will tackle all these problems in one go.

However, there’s a niggling part of me that can’t help thinking we’re just being spun the same old product with a shiny new label.

Has anyone stopped to think WHY? and who is benefiting from a culture obsessed with looking young? Plastic surgeons, nurses who administer botox and restalyne?

My rational brain tells me that aging is fine, it’s part of life and I should embrace and welcome the wisdom that comes with old age, but my mirror tells me otherwise.

It is hard to avoid titles such as Turn back your age clock: look and feel 20 years younger in only 8 weeks. What ! Only 8 weeks and I could look 29! Wow.

Then there is Superhealth: 6 simple steps, 6 easy weeks, 1 longer, healthier life. Only 6 weeks for this one and I also get to live longer. Perhaps I should read both just to cover all bases. But, what about my mind? It’s all very well looking 29 and living until I’m 120 but not if I’m unable to remember any of it, so better add Alzheimers prevention plan: 10 proven ways to stop memory decline and reduce the risk of Alzheimers to the list.

Having gone through all these books you might want to read Bodies by Susie Orbach (counsellor to Princess Di and author of Fat is a feminist issue).

Susie Orbach has come to realise that the way we view our bodies is the mirror of how we view ourselves; our bodies become the measure of our worth

Perhaps an important book to read before taking on that 8 week programme!

In the typical process of trauma therapy, your therapist and the dissociative trauma survivor will s

In the typical process of trauma therapy, your therapist and the dissociative trauma survivor will spend a great deal of time talking about how difficult it is to be multiple — and it is difficult, no doubt about it. For the typical multiple, there were years and years of pain and horror and abuse requiring the need to split over and over into a number of different personalities just to survive the unthinkable.

But the point of this blog is to talk about what an outsider / singleton sees as the benefits of being multiple and having Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID/MPD). Yes, there really are some advantages to being split!

I see the following benefits in multiplicity:

Being able to do more than one thing at the same time. Talk about having the ability to multi-task! I’ve known situations were one personality can be talking comfortably on the phone while another personality is busy doing the day’s work. How cool is that?!!!

Always having someone to talk to. When you are friends with each other on the inside, you don’t ever have to be alone. Your best friends can be right there with you, any time of the day or night.

Being able to maintain the joy of a child’s perspective. Children can be so innocently full of wonderment, and joy, and happiness. They know how to be carefree and happy and amazed at the simplest of life’s pleasures. Child parts, once safe from trauma, can keep that sense of joy near to them their whole lives long.

Being able to take a break even when the outside body has to keep going. When you’re split, you can tuck back inside, and rest, or sleep, or think, and let someone else be out front managing whatever is going on in life. Having that ability to pull away and separate from the outside life can come in handy sometimes!

Having the ability to remember so much more of life’s experiences. In my opinion, once a person with Dissociative Identity Disorder finds safety, and learns to connect with all their internal people, and lowers their dissociative walls, it seems to me that people with DID actually remember more of their life than “regular” singletons do. This includes remembering more of the good times as well as the bad.

Having the ability to understand life and events from a variety of different perspectives. Those with DID don’t have to imagine what it would be like from a different perspective – they often have someone inside that already genuinely sees things that way!

Blocking out pain. While blocking pain is not always a positive or helpful skill, there are times and places where having the ability to block out pain, both physically and mentally, can be a great benefit.

Quite possibly needing less sleep? I can’t prove this, but it seems to me that a significant number of folks with DID can function quite effectively on less sleep than what the average singleton person needs. Maybe this is because the various parts can rest and sleep internally? By taking turns resting inside, does that make the overall physical need to sleep less? I have no real answers for this, but it’s not uncommon for this to appear to be the case.

Looking younger. Again, I cannot prove this, but in my years of working with multiples, folks with DID look considerably younger even as they physically age. One would think that the years of trauma, abuse, and stress would have a negative effect on the physical appearance, and while there are obvious scars, there also seems to be a common ability to not age physically as quickly as singletons do. You all nearly always look younger than you actually are. How cool is that?!

The ability to fit in with a variety of different people. While some system splits were formed as trauma-based ways of matching with various groups of people (and some not so good as others), the positive flip-side of that ability is that people with multiple personalities can literally find themselves fitting in easily with a wide variety of people in a variety of ages.

Sometimes I wish I could do some of those things too!

The point being, despite the difficult beginnings required in splitting into multiple personalities, there are many good and positive attributes to being multiple.

What do you enjoy about your multiplicity?

What strengths do you have?

How has multiplicity enhanced your life?

What qualities of being a multiple would you want to keep, and never lose?

Your thoughts and comments are welcome.

(Drafted from news.softpedia.com on 02-Feb-2009)

A woman should never show her real age, they say

Aging can be hard on anyone, not just women. However, it’s them who always have to come up with ingenious ways of slowing down the passing of time or, if not possible, to make its marks less obvious for others. If plastic surgery is not an option, and neither are expensive spa treatments, there are a few things, simple things we can all do to take the years off our appearance, as the girls at AllWomenStalk point out.

For starters, hair is everything for a woman’s face. A bad ‘do can ruin even the prettiest of faces, not to mention the damage it can do to a middle-aged one. So, thicker bangs are in order in the latter case, to hide the wrinkles on the forehead and create the impression of a more youthful countenance, as it will no longer make the wearer look haggard on early mornings. However, a stylist must be consulted first before getting bangs, because they might not go with a certain type of face shape, so it’s best to play it safe.

When it comes to makeup, aging women must pay the utmost attention, stylists say. Dark shades of lipstick are no longer to be used, since they accentuate not only the lips, and whatever wrinkles are around it, but also the skin of the face, which can come off parchment white. Instead, stylists say we should use sweeter, more natural tones like peach, pearl, coral and other pinks. At night, a lipsalve is a must, useless to say if we don’t want our lips to give our age away.

The same amount of attention has to be paid to the eyebrows. This is the time to accentuate them as much as possible, so as to attract the attention to the area above the eyes and not that below them, where the wrinkles are. Stylists advise us to have the eyebrows professionally plucked, the only thing we still have to do afterwards being to make sure we keep them neat. For more contrast, we can use an eyebrow pencil the same shade as our natural color.

Speaking of coloring, stylists also advise us to get highlights. After a certain age, women come to the realization that not all shades work as they once did for their countenances. So, instead of choosing bold and strong colors like blue black or violet, which only accentuate the imperfections of the face, it’s best to keep it natural with neutral, soft shades with highlights.

One last thing we must bear in mind if we’re trying to avoid looking our age is to get our teeth professionally whitened. Forget about magical toothpastes and solutions that promise the world and deliver nothing, stylists advise us: the best way to get this done is to go to a specialist, who will make sure our smile will positively light up the room. And, since a pretty smile does make a pretty face, stylists also tell us to never forget to do so. Come to think of it, no one likes a woman who can’t but frown and sulk all the time, not to mention that smiling is known to efficiently fight wrinkles.

Fast Beauty Fixes

Having a not-so-great beauty day? Turn it around fast with these quick fixes. “Even a slight change can have a huge impact,” says Mally Roncal, a celebrity makeup artist who has worked with Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez. To look absolutely gorgeous, all you need are a few new products and about 60 seconds.

Makeup Fixes

Think pink. Swap your dull powder blush for a bright pink or berry gel (TRY: Stila Gel Cheek Color in Melon Flush, $16, sephora.com for locations). “Stains mimic a just-been-jogging flush, so they look natural,” says Roncal. Blend color onto the apples of your cheeks in circles.

Give some lip. A barely-there gloss that’s just a bit brighter than your natural lip color will give you reason to smile (TRY: Philosophy Kiss Me Very Emollient Lip Balm in Pink, $10, Sephora stores and philosophy.com). “A subtle tint always looks youthful and sexy,” says Roncal. Before applying, exfoliate to plump up lips.

Flip your lids. Swipe a cream shadow in a bright hue, such as green, plum, or bronze, across your lid from lash line to crease (TRY: Flirt! I’m Whipped Eyeshadow Mousse in High Maintenance, $12, kohls.com). “A strong color around your eyes makes them — and you — immediately noticeable,” explains Belinda Moss, a makeup artist who has worked with Eva Longoria and Scarlett Johansson.

Hair Repair

Treat split ends. Highlighting, straightening, blow-drying: The list of potential hair abuses can go on and on. Turn strawlike strands into silk with an in-shower treatment (TRY: Aveda Sap Moss Nourishing Concentrate, $18, aveda.com). Smoothing ingredients such as avocado oil and wheat protein make hair instantly shiny, says Valery Joseph, owner of the Valery Joseph Salon in New York City.

Redo your hue. Whether you’ve got virgin strands or desperately need a touch-up, give your color a boost with a pigment-depositing conditioner like Ted Gibson Individual Color Conditioner in Glimmering Gold, $36, saksfifthavenue.com. “A glossy tint coats strands, making your color more vibrant until the next shampoo,” explains Keith Bocklet, a colorist at Butterfly Studio in New York City. For the most natural results, stay within your current color range.

Transform your style. Pomade helps define your ‘do without freezing it into place. “Adding texture can turn a not-so-great haircut into a chic style,” explains Joseph. Working with dry hair, rub a dime-size amount between fingertips, then lightly touch areas you want to define — face-framing pieces, layers, or ends (TRY: Keune Shaping Fibres, $16, keune.com, or 800-330-9302 for locations).

Nail Fixes

Smooth rough edges. If you don’t have time for a manicure, smooth away flaky skin and rough cuticles with an oil-based exfoliator like Creative Nail Solar Manicure, $13.95, creativenail.com for locations. “Oil seeps into crevices that hand cream can’t reach, and it also adds a healthy sheen to skin,” says Carla Kay, a manicurist for Airplus for Her.

Embrace color. If you usually wear neutrals, polish your nails with a vibrant tone like hot pink or orange (TRY: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Tip Toe Tulip, $3.25, drugstores). “Color on your nails is just as good as wearing an accessory,” says Kay. Use a base coat to prevent staining.

Add a shimmer top coat. Transform your current manicure in seconds by applying one coat of a neutral, opalescent shade on top (TRY: OPI Nail Lacquer in I’m a Princess, You’re Not!, $7.50, opi.com for locations). “A pearlescent quality hides chips with minimal effort,” says Kay.

I read THIS STORY the other day in the paper. Apparently technology is threatening to reveal some of our secrets. This is a big deal considering if you google “looking younger” up pop some 1.3 million sites.

If you’re hoping to keep your age a secret in perpetuity, researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign may foil your plans. According to a university news release, computer software is being developed there that would provide a reasonable estimate of a person’s age. The software works by enabling a computer to examine facial attributes that facilitate an 80% accuracy in estimating ages to within 10 years. Right now the accuracy is only 50% within five years, according to the university. Practical applications of such technology would be to thwart underage drinkers and smokers, in addition to keeping kids off adult websites.

Do you have any secrets to looking younger? I must admit that most of my life I’ve actually wished I looked older than I do. The gray hair that is rapidly spreading across my head may change my attitude soon (see picture below).

So let’s find out the average age of our Without Wax readers. Go ahead, be brave, and leave your age in the comments.

I’ll go first. 34 and proud of it!

Have a great weekend,

Pete
