Last night I hopped along to the Hereward as a fund raising gig was taking place. Both Lost at Seven and Blue Thunder were playing. I told me ol’ Ma about the charity gig and she was keen to come along and see the bands in action. I have been battling a cold this week and Ma wasn’t feeling too tip top either last night so we kicked off the evening in a very rock n’ roll fashion with a latte and a cuppa tea. Hardcore!

Lost at Seven were up first. We kinda know the lead singer (my Godmother’s, friend’s, son). I remember Jed being a really cool kid, now he towers above me it seems he has grown into a cool dude. He’s got an amazing voice. Check out their video (below). They played their own stuff but managed to throw in a couple of covers too (including The Wanted, The Kooks and a bit of Michael Jackson). A band that I give two thumbs up to. I would definitely check them out again.

Up next Blue Thunder. Again, I kinda knew a couple of the band members. Dean had text me to tell me that the left handed guitar player, Andy was also their guitar player in Dryad. I know Andrew, the lead singer from my many visits to the Hereward (he also works behind the bar) and I thought I recognised the other guitarist. However my favourite member of this band was the drummer. He was so young, so cute and was cool as a cucumber for the whole set. It wasn’t until this morning I found out that I know him too (not surprising it is the Fens). He played Dick Whittington’s ‘Tommy – the Cat’ alongside my sister in a Pantomime about 10 years ago. Brilliant! Anyway, I digress, Blue Thunder churned out some top notch quality covers including; Thin Lizzy, Fleetwood Mac, Bon Jovi, Billy Idol, and UFO to name but a few. The band had a super full sound and played some of my favourites so I will most definitely be keeping an eye out for the next gig.

The only dampener of the evening of was a group of lads standing in front of Ma and I and one of them decided to shit his pants. It was so bad my face started to melt. However the evening was put back on an even kilter when my good friend Youngsy won a bottle of wine on the raffle and gave it to me (that’s my Friday night sorted). The event successful as it managed to raise over £800 for East Anglia Air Rescue and managed to once again showcase some super talented local bands.

I had to pop this photo in here. Left: the drummer for Blue Thunder as Tommy the Cat, Right: My sister, Lia as Dick Whittington.
