it’s like heaven with cactus.

Your first morning at the resort.  You wake up and hear an angel singing.  Conveniently disguised as a cactus wren, perched atop a nearby saguaro.

You feel light, and soon you’ll be feeling joyous.  Especially after you stretch your fairway wood to its limit and shoot an eagle on the tenth hole.  There are 3,000 more hoes beckoning.  And in a place so celestial, it might be possible to play them all.

Tomorrow you’ll be drawn to explore mystical wonders.  The Grand Canyon, Saguaro National Monument.  The White Mountains Monument Valley.  The view by the pool from the vantage point of your lounge chair.

Outside your window you see Arizona.  But you know where you really are.  Don’t you?

 I Drove My Motorized La-Z-Boy Home Drunk and You Nab me for DUI? – DULUTH, MINNESOTA-  Geezus, the things that people will do to curb their jones for driving like a maniac.  Whether it’s buying a $75,000 porchse that does 175mph, or yanking that VW Rabbit out of the junk yard and tuning to do 150 mph, it’s a test between man and machine.  You buy it, you jam in horsepower, then you drive that sonofabitch into the ground.  But driving a motorized piece of living furnitture home from the bar and getting busted for it?  Is that even legal?  It is now, at least in Minnesota.

Constabulary forces  in Duluth, Minnesota say a man has found guilty of drunken driving after smashing up his prized motorized La-Z-Boy recliner. Yes, your dad’s favorite lounge chair, only with wheels  and it goes piss your pants fast.  Police responded to a report of a drunk man who smashed into a parked car last August 8 at 3 am.  After they arrived and found the man laying passed out on the road, it took them a few seconds to figure out he wrecked a reclining chair  powered by a suped up lawn mower engine complete with a radio and cup holders.

The offender, a 62 year old man with a long list of traffic violations, was finally sentenced after waiting 1.5  years for a fair trial after the insanity plea was tossed out.  After deliberating the statutes for driving a machine while intoxitcated, a judg charged him with operating a vehicle while intoxicated.  According to plice statements, the man said he “slammed 15 beers and didn’t have get out of his chair once.”  He also proudly bragged that his “bad-ass La-Z-Boycould go up to 38 mph, and that’s on cheap gas.  On the good stuff it can go around 40 with no problem.”   (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091023/ap_on_fe_st/us_lounge_chair_dwi)

Prosecutors say his blood alcohol content was 0.29, more than three times the legal limit, when he crashed into a parked vehicle that sustained more than $150o damage.  Aside from restitution for the damaged vehicle the judge handed out a 180 days of suspended jail time, ordered two years of probation, 6 months of pyschological counseling and forbade the man to put a motor on any kind of furniture for 5 years.  Why ruin a perfectly good recliner after drinking a case of beer when you can just climb into a car and smash it into a parked car?

1. Design Milk: Kruze Lounge Chair by David Fox

Industrial designer David Fox collaborated with Boss Design to create this seriously sexy lounge chair. Its wooden curves are constructed out of walnut and the black upholstery is made from the finest leather. I have no doubt that this executive chair is as easy as on the eyes as it is on the person who sits in it!

2. MoCo Loco:Cloudwalk by Yu Jordy Fu

100% Design may have finished three weeks ago, but the hugely successful design fair is still making quite the impact on the design world. This morning MoCo Loco features Yu Jordy Fu’s Cloudwalk installation. The striking piece is made up of 25 paper chandeliers joined to create a paper chain 9m in length. Yu Jordy Fu hopes that his Cloud lamps will help keep the Chinese crafting tradition alive.

I don’t know about you, but since I have started working, a whole day can pass without me doing any form of physical exercise. You can imagine my excitement when I stumbled across Active Furniture which uses counter-intuitive design as an antidote to our increasingly sedentary lives. Each cleverly designed product requires some sort of physical exertion on the user’s part in order for it to function. The floor lamp must be held upright, both to illuminate the bulb and keep the lamp vertical – you may get an achy arm, but the idea is so original!

Waltz Lounge is a wonderful new creation by New York based design studio MisoSoupDesign.

The idea is obscenely simple – it’s a Lounge Chair and an Ottoman, and the Ottoman is stored under the Lounge Chair.

Great.

Honestly, just great.

That that it looks great – so somewhere between a classic Eames Lounge Chair and a Bansko Boo by Apparat Design – is an advantage, and if it is as comfortable as it appears to be.

Hurrah.

The only slight problem is that according to MisoSoupDesign the Waltz Lounge  is available through OFS – though OFS make no mention of them.
We hope that OFS appreciate what they’ve got and rectify the situation quickly…
