Maybe this says more about South Park's staying power than anything.

The spring season is usually when the best series (or just most in recent years) arrive. In 2000, there obviously weren’t that many being released. There were a few good shows in this season, and I think I watched most of them here. Another thing I noticed was that the start dates weren’t front loaded at the beginning of the month and that there was a nice even spread. I guess that’s possible with so little competition out there.

I begin this week with the one of the definitive harem animes, which could be like saying what is the definitive form of cancer to suffer from, in Love Hina. I first started watching this as a really immature teenager who had no concept of what was actually any good. The slapstick involving Keitaro constantly getting beat up only to walk away mostly unharmed is far from an original concept (was it even original in 1909?), but I laughed a little. For a harem anime it is good though I could have done without all but 2 of the girls. At least it doesn’t have the unquenchable thirst for DVD sales through censorship and other boundary pushing that define the genre at present.

Next up is NieA Under 7, which I would never have seen were it not for a fluke visit to my university’s anime club. While I won’t go into that much detail about that experience, I will say that I did get some enjoyment out of this slice of life work. It is the story of 2 friends from totally different worlds (both figuratively and literally) who live together and form closer bonds. However, it does still have that problem most slice of life pieces have, which are moments of interminable dullness. Perhaps, it’s supposed to mimic what life would be like, but I would have thought the point of watching would have been to escape those moments. Even making one of the characters a low-class alien doesn’t save it from those moments. The rest of it, though, is a pretty decent watch.

Finally, I wrap up with Furi Kuri. There is a lot that can be discussed about this six-part OVA. Is it just experimental animation? Are there too many vague references to other shows to make this accessible? Is it just a way for Gainax to look back at its past? Does it work as look at growing up suburban post-bubble Japan? Those questions could be argued for a while though I would go; yes, maybe, no, a little.

Highlights from Unseen or Unfinished Items

For the decently rated stuff, there’s Seikai no Senki, which I haven’t watched despite owning the original series on DVD. It’s set a few years ahead, but I don’t know what’s holding me back. Plus there’s Ayashi no Ceres which is decent enough to where I had heard of it more than 6 years ago. Finally, to wrap things up on a strange note is Yu-Gi-Oh! which for a period of a couple of years amongst my college friends was the source of a few inside jokes. Also, the abridged series is worth a few laughs.

Galaxy Angel can do both aesthetically pleasing and comedy at the same time.

The 11th part of this retrospective series continues in the early part of the decade. The way things are panning out, I may just start calling the 2000-05 years the malaise era for anime. A couple series here and there is the pattern, and there’s really no consistency in quality. This time I have six different watched, some good, some not.

I’m going to start wit Full Metal Panic! which is far better than almost anything that Gonzo has ever done. That said, it’s pretty mediocre when it comes to the dramatic aspects of it until the “Wind Blows at Home” episodes which are fantastic. As always, the series relies on the interaction between Chidori and Sousuke, to decent effect here, though the 2 later series to follow did it much better.

The second season of Galaxy Angel, is by far the shortest (a mere 9 full-length episodes), but it more than makes up for it in quality. Lost technology continues to be the crutch on which every formulaic episode is written on, but it does very well with its simplicity. Only when it needlessly gets more complicated in later seasons does the quality begin to fall apart.

Onegai Teacher has already been used in this retrospective, for the OVA at least, but here’s my take on the TV series. At first, it seems like a typical high-concept piece which is as follows: Boy finds out teacher is an alien is forced to marry her and keep it a secret; hi jinks ensue. However, I found it to be more of a commentary on arranged marriages than anything. Society here plays the role of forcing the two together, and with really no knowledge of each other they go through quite a lot of rough patches.

Voices of a Distant Star is a great accomplishment for the work of essentially one man. The quality of the story is well-documented, so I won’t really talk about that. Where I do think this suffers is in the 3D animation. I don’t know if it was done to save money or time, but it looks terrible and out of place.

Love Hina Again was an OVA that continued some of the story from the manga with character designs that looked closer to their original. Keitaro has to deal with his sister, who had claimed to be manager of the inn. Of course, this being a harem anime, the relationship with his sister has to be ambiguous just like every other character. The ending still isn’t resolved after this, though.

Finally, there’s Kanon. Not the Kyoto Animation version, but the Toei version that was half the length. I said in one of my early posts that on a personal level this was better than the newer version, despite nearly everything being superior there. The character designs are comical even for 2002 standard, and the music isn’t anything to write home about, nor is the story as dramatic as the KyoAni version. Maybe that’s why I inexplicably like this one more, length and less drama.

Highlights from Unseen or Unfinished Items

There’s maybe 2 items here worth noting based on ratings. There’s the Hunter x Hunter OVA, which seems like a large number of people like. I can’t really form an opinion on it since I haven’t even looked into watching the original series. The second is RahXephon, which I have seen compared to Evangelion, sometimes favorably, sometimes not.

. ummm, I don’t know, most of the things I’m saying are sort of similar to each other and some probably wouldn’t be considered as a compliment. Eh anyways, I guess I’m a type S-2 Desire to Love and Be Loved in Return, hah, thats from Love Hina. Hmm is it weird, that I want a boyfriend I can take care of and cook for, but then again I hate doing that stuff for my dad? Eh maybe I don’t know. My dad is a little sexist, and he just orders me around when he sits on the couch and calls me lazy if I don’t cook or clean, so theoretically I would be against doing that cause that would represent me doing that for my dad. But if I do have a good guy, then I’m sure he will appreciate it and be kind and loving to me, and not treat me like a slave.

So on Friday, Dana called me up and I went to the Brew with her and her friend Kelly. She invited me to sleep over, but I don’t know, Kelly is a little hard to get along with, and I wanted time to myself to relax and enjoy my big comfy bed. haha.

Anyways, Saturday was rather slow and boring. My brother was coming at 10 at night to pick me up, because he wanted to go hunting and my family has this place between where we live and where I attend college, and since its hunting season and my dad spends days upon weeks there at a time, it was decided that its better if I just went up to the place on Saturday night and then on Sunday, have my dad drop me off at school.

So like I said Saturday was a bit boring, I watched Love Hina, which is eh alright. Sometimes the girls can get really annoying, but then there are some parts that I find really interesting and pull me in the story. Then I went to get sushi with my mom. yumm real sushi, and I decided to buy a lotto ticket. I don’t really know why, I figured eh why not, you never know.

But honestly, I have no idea what I would do with all that money, mean I know I don’t get it all and I’m totally fine with that. Even 5 million is more than plenty.

I could:

Pay for college/pay my loans off.

save money for grad school, I even figured in if I went to grad school out of state.

buy a used hybrid car,

save money for renting an apartment for 3 years, figure I pay 212 a month.

save money to own an apartment-if thats possible,

buy all the books I want-which is about 388 books in total.

treat my friends and family to a nice dinner,

give $70,000 to my niece Lena so even though she’s only 3 in a half years old, she’ll be pretty set for college, and so my brother and his wife can worry less, especially since they have another little one on the way. Hmm you know what, $70,000 for the baby too.

give money to my sister and her boyfriend,

give money to my brother and his wife,

pay for a vacation for my parents to Sicily

and still not go over $870,000.  Mean I looked prices up and everything, so its a pretty good estimate. And I think thats crazy. I’ll probably save some for tattoos, and I want to find 3 good charities to donate to, one being for animals, and save the rest. Oh yeah and duh, silly me, buy presents for my family, and friends. So even if I just had 1 million, I know I would be set, and not have to worry for a while.

But anyways, enough of that. So I’m back at UA, I’ve been back since 1 ish, and its still pretty dead in the dorms. And I know tomorrow is going to be a slap in the face when it comes to getting up and going to class. *sigh* only two more weeks. And then I start working at Lord and Taylor. Hopefully they keep me. If not, then eh it’s not the end of the world.

Love Hina/Love Hina Again – Motoko Aoyama

Okay, so here we have the classic awesome “girl-dressed-like-a-miko-who-has-a-sword-and-talks-big-but-is-actually-still-a-girl-in-the-end” character. Motoko is awesome and I’m just going to list some reasons:

• She’s got a sword, and anytime a girl has a sword in an anime it sets that character up to be awesome right away.
• She’s dressed like a miko. Cmon, that’s great.
• Even though she gets angry a lot, she get embarassed a lot (which is like all girls….well…..all girls according to anime at least (IRL girls are more….normal))
• She’s afraid of turtles.

That’s right, a samurai girl afraid of turtles. I love weird random traits that charcters have. Afraid of turtles? RANDOM = AWESOME. END.

Love Love? – Hikaru Jougasaki

At one point, I actually dropped this show. Then I picked it up, finished it and liked it. Apparently it’s a sequal to Smash Hit. I haven’t seen Smash Hit, but I could follow this fine. I actually was watching Smash Hit at one point, but then I dropped it (just like Love Love?). I’ll pick it up later, finish it, and like it.

As far as characters are concerned, Hikaru wins for the simple fact that she is a tomboy. I love the tomboy characters, they’re awesome. In case you’re wondering, Hikaru was raised by 6 brothers.

Lucky Star – Konata Izumi

A parody of "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time," which is my favorite anime movie ever.

While looking for a good picture of Konata (of which there are a SHITLOAD), I found a few that were different, and so here they are. What’s so special about those? Nothing, one was a DMC parody, and the other two were just different artists. That’s it. So why is Konata the winner here? Well, I did write a whole post about it before, but I’ll write some stuff anyway.

Lucky Star, if you’re wondering, had a pointless plot, but I still find it to be one of my favorite shows (top 30).

Why? Isn’t it the same thing as K-On?

No. K-On was an attempt at a show with no substance other than to try to make the characters more moe than the pervious episode. It actually wasn’t even a real show. Lucky Star at least dealt with different things from episode to episode, and it had this guy singing some endings. Holy Fuck, maybe that guy should be my favorite character?

Nah, I’ll stick with Konata, because she’s funny with her repetitive otaku jokes. Whenever she talks, you know she’s going to talk about gaming or manga or something, for example, the whole “I’m reading” scenario that Baka-Raptor, an avid Lucky Star…..err…..non-liker, talked about. These kind of jokes, for whatever reason, amuse me. That, coupled with the parodies of other shit, make me like Konata and Lucky Star. That’s it.

Sunday’s come around pretty damn quick don’t they. So our new AMV of the week goes by the name “Mix Anime AMV ~ Stop Looking At My (BEEP)!”. Taking the Pussycat Dolls song Beep and mixing in a decent range of anime (including Princess Princess, Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni, Ouran High School Host Club, Naruto, xxxHolic, Black Cat, Love Hina, Gakuen Heaven, FMA Chibi Party, Shakugan no Shana, Inukami!, School Rumble 2, Law of Ueki and more), we get a pretty funky AMV by Hinano.

Michael Pinto, generally calm, collected, and even erudite, speaks with the voice of rage.  His rage is directed at those who carry on in abject ignorance of the history of American fandom.

At first blush we are sympathetic to Mr. Pinto – without the pioneers, the American fandom would be very different or might not even exist.  However, without excusing this conduct in any way, I want to suggest that Mr. Pinto has missed something very important: the postmodernist streak of anime fandom.

In essence, postmodernism is the freeing of something from its context.  Nobody is required to watch Gundam, Macross, and Neon Genesis Evangelion before they watch Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.  Nobody is required to understand Maison Ikkoku, Urusei Yatsura, or Rama 1/2 before they look at Clannad and Love Hina. Anime is something that people jump into without knowing or caring what went before. The reams of disconnected anime reviews out there attest to this fact, and I am sure Mr. Pinto is aware of that.

What I don’t believe he has remembered is how much people take this postmodernist bent for granted.  Outrage generally incorporates some aspect of surprise, and while I think it’s unfortunate that American otaku have forgotten a pioneer, I can’t be surprised in the least.  It’s a self-indulgent, hedonistic fandom, no matter how much we try to be intellectuals about it.

A look at the copyright debates, probably the hottest current issue, serves to affirm this.   Half the fandom have no grasp of economics, insisting that everything should be free on the internet, forever.  The other half have no grasp of law, confusing intellectual property violations with theft. Perhaps the dark heart of postmodernism is the simple declaration, “I don’t care.”  That which does not force the fan to acknowledge it is simply conveniently ignored.

Is it reasonable to expect a people who cannot get basic facts of daily relevance straight to honor their forebears?  Can we expect this environment, wholly lacking in rigor, to produce the sort of dedication to the truth that would see people like Kaposztas honored?

In entertainment, history is overlooked and relevance is mutable.  The paradigm of entertainment asks: does Jim Kaposztas deserve more?  If so, where is his PR campaign?

That context is something that the non-postmodernist should understand all too well.

Keitaro Urashima est un jeune garçon de 19 qui a échoué deux fois l’examen d’entré de l’université de Todaï, il y a 15 ans il a fait la promesse à une fille qu’ils se retrouveront à Todaï. Ses parents ne pouvent plus l’hébergés, celui-ci reçoit une lettre de sa grand mère qui vie à la pension hinata, mais il ignore que cette hôtel et une pension pour jeune fille, à son arrivé il se fait traité de voyeur, grâce à l’intervention de sa tante il devient le nouveau gérant de la pension.

Véritable phénomène au Japon, Love Hina est tout aussi culte en France…. et à juste titre. Et oui, aussi surprenant que ca en a l’air, j’ai beaucoup apprécié ce manga, un peu loufoque (je ne parlerai que du manga, pas de l’anime).

J’avoue que le scénario est pauvre avec pour seul fil conducteur, la recherche d’un amour perdu. L’histoire n’est qu’une succession de gags peu recherchés mais efficaces. Le principe est simple : le héros arrive, fait une boulette (généralement voir les filles nues) et se prend un méga-combo. On peut avoir peur que ça devienne lassant mais les persos évoluent et deviennent plus matures. Le côté puéril s’efface progressivement et on peut noter l’apparition dans les derniers tomes d’une certaine maturité dans la psychologie (ne craignez rien, l’humour ne disparait pas pour autant). Et puis, on ne demande pas non plus à ce genre de manga d’être intelligent, juste de distraire.

Les persos sont justement très intéressants car leur psychologie est plus complexe au fil des tomes. Ils sont attachants et c’est un vrai plaisir de suivre leur évolution et ont chacun un intêret qui lui est propre. Tout le monde peut trouver un protagoniste auquel s’identifier.

Love Hina est culte et on comprend pourquoi. On dévore les tomes sans jamais se lasser. Si vous ne l’avez pas encore lu, courrez-y vite, vous ne serez pas déçu. Par contre, l’anime s’éloigne du manga et est bien moins bons (enfin, je trouve).

I didn’t always be like this. I would gladly finish whatever series I had decided to watch, then something changed. I bring this up because MAL (or rather should I say whatever I have put in) says I’m on 199 drops or 32.9% of anything I have started watching.

This raises a variety of questions such as:

• Do I even like anime?
• Why don’t I just stick to genres that I know I like?
• Is there a brutality to my style of watching?

To answer those 3 simple questions; I keep watching it don’t I?, it is hard to stick to certain genres when hardly anything of quality gets made in those anymore and sticking to specific genres is a little narrow-minded in my opinion, and it’s not really brutal since I doubt any of the creators care what this blogger with a microscopic readership thinks.

Instead I think it has something to do with the my own perceived cost of media consumption. Not to get sentimental again, but I remember having to download anime over a dial up connection. So at that point it made sense to me continue watching since I had invested more time than anything in getting just 20 minutes of entertainment. That also led me to buy DVDs back in the expensive days since $30 in the place of 4-6 days worth of effort made sense. On reflection a lot of errors were made there (glances at Love Hina boxset on shelf).

Over time, it has become incredibly easy to just grab pretty much anything in a short amount of time. Within a couple of hours I can decided to download the first episode of Tatakau Shisho to deciding that it isn’t worth my time. It was like anime viewership had changed from experimenting with recipes I was trying to cook myself to just trying new items off a fast food menu. The emotional investment in new series was practically gone. In addition, the explosion in new series at about the same time suddenly introduced a fierce urgency to plow through shows I may not necessarily want to continue. So I started dropping a lot.

That was about five years ago now, so here’s how I did from memory:

and this doesn't last beyond episode 1.

With the emotional investment removed, I was suddenly dropping a Gundam series which would have been unthinkable at the time (though many would argue I dropped the right one) and I was loading up on shows that mostly were not ever going to be classics. Should I try to get the emotional investment back or was I living a lie from the beginning?

This is the first of a series of manga reviews by yours truly. I’ll be concentrating on off-the-wall stuff that I happen to like, and largely avoiding the really popular stuff that other people have already covered extensively elsewhere. I mostly buy my manga in the original Japanese (at the local Kinokuniya), and many of the titles I’ll be reviewing–including this first one–aren’t yet available in English.

Yandere Kanojo Cover

Yandere Kanojo is a gag manga with a very direct, straightforward style. It stars Reina Ryuuzaki and Manabu Tanaka. Reina is the leader of the female delinquents in her school, and Tanaka is a diligent but otherwise unremarkable student. “Yandere” normally refers to a girl who’s sick and twisted (from yanderu/病んでる) but has a flustered, lovestruck, sweet side (deredere/デレデレ). It’s a scarier variant of the tsundere thing that’s become so trendy. Yandere Kanojo doesn’t have a yandere character; instead, the “yan” in the title comes from Yankii (a female delinquent). Reina is this peculiar kind of “yandere,” a mean girl who can kick the crap out of anyone who crosses her path, but can be embarrassed and downright sweet when it comes to Tanaka.

So, like, I figured we could start dating and stuff…

In a typical manga storyline there would probably be a volume or two of them fumbling around trying to connect despite secondary characters with rivalries and jealousies going on. Here, Reina falls for Manabu, and while she’s trying to figure out what to do about it, it turns out that he likes her too. Problem solved! (Well, at first she assumes the letter he put in her locker was a challenge, but…) That’s not to say there’s no conflict in the story, but it tends to come more from Reina getting embarrassed or angry, or just falling back into her delinquent habits and slugging people.

After years of titles like Love Hina where an actual relationship is the end-point of the story rather than a beginning like in real life, I find it refreshing to read a manga where two lovers can earnestly connect. That said, while the comic is occasionally heartwarming, for the most part it’s about a bunch of really strange people. Tanaka is the most normal character by far, but his cute younger sister Mayami is a masochist who gets off on having Reina beat her up. Tanaka also has a rival in Tsubasa Shiratori, a “perfect” student who prizes his #1 spot in the school’s test rankings.

The format is an odd mixture of 4-panel comic strips and full-page strips (which typically have 5 or 6 panels), and while most of them have a gag at the end, they always cohere into an ongoing storyline, however absurd. This first volume catapults the reader through its take on a series of cliché manga high school tropes (athletics festival, studying for a big test, etc.). This could be a turn-off if you feel like you’ve read one high school manga too many, but seeing Reina trying to participate in a more normal school life despite her delinquent tendencies is the main appeal of Yandere Kanojo.

Does she even know how a 3-legged race actually works?

Shinobi’s art style seems like it has a little bit of shoujo manga influence, especially with Tanaka’s character design, but on the whole it’s expressive and fun despite not being the most technically proficient. Some panels—like where Reina wears cute, normal clothes for her first date with Manabu—are very well done, while in others the characters get badly out of model.

Shinobi does a good job of cartoonishly portraying Reina’s over the top reactions, whether she’s blushing furiously, yelling at the top of her lungs, going crazy and attacking people or (as is often the case) all three at once. It lacks the stirring depictions of scenery in Azuma Kiyohiko’s recent works, but I was never confused about what was going on, and where the art could’ve been better, it didn’t particularly detract from the experience.

What *is* that?

I picked this manga up at Kinokuniya on a whim because I thought the title was amusing, and I voraciously read the whole thing in about a day. It’s not the very best manga out there, but it’s a heck of a lot of fun. In the final analysis, Yandere Kanojo is a little technically flawed, but in my opinion just too fun to pass up. I give it a 4 out of 5 rating.

Sinopsis:

“”Love Hina”" cuenta la historia de Keitarō Urashima, un chico de veinte años que quiere entrar en la prestigiosa Universidad de Tokio (o “”Tōdai”", como la llaman los japoneses, de Tōkyō Daigaku) porque cuando niños, y hace quince años desde el inicio de la historia, le hizo una promesa a su novia de la infancia de que, cuando fueran mayores, irían a la Tōdai y serían felices para siempre.

Sin embargo, Keitarō ha suspendido dos veces el examen de acceso y sus padres le echan de casa. Él decide ir a la posada de su abuela a vivir allí un tiempo y estudiar, pero hacía años que dejó de ser una posada para ser una residencia femenina con cinco inquilinas, todas hermosas y adolescentes. Al principio las chicas se lo toman muy mal, y creen que Keitarô es un pervertido, pero al final logra quedarse a vivir en la residencia como encargado, teniendo que aprender a convivir día a día con todas las chicas, las cuales poseen personalidades muy distintas entre sí, y lidiar con problemas sentimentales, domésticos y varias situaciones cómicas.

When I said I want to do classic reviews, I do, except I’ve seen a lot. It’d take me forever to go through that much shit in there, and honestly I’d have to rewatch most of it to remember anything detailed about it.

But as it turns out, the guy appropriately known as “Chartfag” decided to do up charts of series that aired in the past, starting with 2000.

So I decided to pick out the ones I’ve seen there and write up a short blob about them. Cause you know, no time on my hands and such.

Love Hina… ugh… this series is the single most terrible thing I’ve sat through and I don’t even know why I sat through it. I don’t even need to explain anything about it, it’s a generic love-comedy-harem series back when that was the thing in anime, before the moeblob sensation. The manga is moderately better, but not by much. The good thing is, Ken Akamatsu’s next work, Negima, is marginally better at making harem and Harry Potter look good, at least in the manga.

tl;dr: I liked this when it was called Tenchi Muyo, or even Ah! My Goddess. Watch it if you are a roneryfag who hasn’t got a chance of ever having sex with another women but fantasizes it though a television.

NieA_7 is just weird. The thing with Yoshitoshi ABe’s series is, they’re either tripped out as fuck, or just don’t make much sense. The other problem is, almost any newfag is going to say “oh well this looks like Haibane Renmei!”. /facepalm Same guy, but NieA came first. Basically the whole series is about an alien freeloading off a poor college student, except all these weird events related to the aliens occur.

tl;dr: If you like ABe series, totally weird and incomprehensible events, or Bakemonogatari was too hard for you, this is your series.

Hand Maid May was such a fun series to watch. Basic premise is a college kid who is trying to make a sentient robot squid accidentally discovers a hidden website and ends up with a fully sentient and talking mini android named May who is, well, a maid. Add a busty childhood friend/landlord’s daughter/noisy girl, a crazy rich troll (NAAAAAAAAAAAAANBARAAAAAAAAA) and a host of other characters and android girls and you have the best harem series of the year.

tl;dr: Come on, you know you want to see where the other end of the USB cable goes… =D

Vandread of almost all of the mecha I have seen, I have rewatched only a handful more than once, and only a select few more than twice. Vandread is a spectacular series for both mecha and love-comedy fans alike, with one of the best told stories and characters. This is also one of the few series that I enjoy the OP/ED songs and animation for. It’s a series where Earthlings went into space after trashing their world or somesuch, but somewhere along the way, Grandpa and Grandma had a fight and took their respective genders seperate ways and colonized their own seperate planets. Generations later you come up with males and females who have never co-existed with each other ever, colliding with each other when female pirates attack the male’s newly launched battleship, and then three of the men and all the female pirates end up far from home in a ship warped by a strange power. The result is a hillarious bout of comedy and sci-fi with a bit of everything else. Also, GATTAI, MANLY TEARS, DAT ASS, tits, and a delicious trap.

tl;dr No seriously, if the idea of mecha, starships, girls in tight clothes with TnA, and a story that mimics Star Trek: Voyager right down to the Vidians doesn’t interest you, then GTFO and go back to watching Naruto because that is such QUALITY right there.

Argento Soma, where revenge against an unknown alien is serious business. It’s a pretty dark-in-places series about a guy who seeks revenge for his girlfriend’s death in a lab experiment to revive one of the aliens that had previously come to Earth and caused chaos. The only thing is, he was also involved in the experiment but in the aftermath of the accident during the alien’s revival, only he survived. With his face disfigured and a hate for the alien, he is given an offer to join an elite unit tasked with finding and capturing the alien. Lot of drama, lot of weird, and a lot of references to US states. Personally, I liked it as one of those “underdog” mecha series that no one on /m/ even talks about.

tl;dr: if you are emo this might be up you’re alley, but if you’re emo and into anime, you’re probably a Death Note fag, so do yourself a favor and become an hero. Besides, I liked Death Note when it was called Jigoku Shoujo.

That’s all I’ve seen from 2000, I actually didn’t really get into anime hardcore until 2001-2002, I had heard of things and seen some stuff before but didn’t seriously pay attention to anime until I was given Martian Successor Nadesico, and ~8 years later I am a sad sack of shit writing stuff like this because that is how I roll.

Saudade de postar alguma coisa aqui no blog, mas não queria só vir aqui e botar uma relação com os mangás mais vendidos ou alguma outra porcaria do tipo. Hoje vos trago a segunda parte da série de comparações sobre os viados ímãs de mulheres dos animês.

Tenchi Masaki

Animê: Tenchi Muyo/Tenchi Universe, Tenchi in Tokyo e Tenchi Muyo GXP.

Tenchi é um rapaz muito responsável com suas tarefas, corajoso, tímido, educado, gentil e bastante amigável, o que acaba fazendo com que muitas garotas se apaixonem por ele. Mas tudo isso muda de forma inesperada (isso nunca aocnteceu em desenho algum, não é, Astolfo?).

Voltando do colégio para casa, Tenchi vê uma nave espacial cair em um bosque. Ele vai até o objeto e encontra lá uma mulher, que se apresenta como Ryoko.

Ela diz que foi atacada por piratas espaciais e ambos acabam tendo que fugir de um robô que sai dos destroços e começa a atirar neles, mas que, desajeitadamente, cai no chão, perto de um precipício, e Ryoko, com um chute, o lança lá embaixo.

Ela passa aquela noite na casa do Tenchi, sendo muito bem recebida por Nobuyuki, pai de Tenchi, que queria que seu filho se relacionasse com a visitante.

Naquela noite, o robô toca a campainha da casa de Tenchi e sai em perseguição a Ryoko e ele novamente. Mas, no fim, descobrimos que o robô era uma espécie de armadura, que Mihoshi, uma agente da Polícia Galáctica um tanto quanto desajeitada, estava usando para tentar prender a perigosa pirata espacial mais procurada do universo, Ryoko!

Agora, a situação inverte-se, e é Tenchi e Mihoshi quem tem que fugir desembestados de Ryoko, que quer atacá-los violentamente. Todavia, quando Tenchi percebe que não podem mais fugir, pois Mihoshi não agüentava mais, ele pega uma enxada que estava largada no chão e decide encarar sua perseguidora. Isso, realmente, mexe com ela, porque ela desiste e diz que estava apenas brincando. Mas, mesmo assim, Mihoshi não consegue prendê-la, porque não se lembrava do protocolo. Ryoko sussurra, admirada, um tipo de agradecimento no ouvido de Tenchi, dizendo o quanto ele foi corajoso quando a salvou…

Inicialmente com essas duas aliens morando com ele e tendo que consertar os estragos sofridos pela casa na véspera, começam as aventuras de Tenchi, onde ainda aparecem outra policial, uma cientista louca e duas princesas, e por aí vai.

Sasuke Uchiha

Animê: Naruto, Naruto Shippuden

Sasuke é o anti-herói de Naruto, personagem que leva o mesmo nome da série.

Sasuke não era necessariamente tímido, mas muito quieto e frio. Isso combinado com a beleza que as gurias de sua escola viam nele, fazia com todas se apaixonassem por ele ao ponto de brigarem para ver quem o faria dar o primeiro beijo, mas quem acabou fazendo isso foi seu rival Naruto.

Keitaro Urashima

Animê: Love Hina

Ele pode ser descrito como um “Looser”, fracassando em quase tudo o que faz: tira notas baixas, repetiu várias vezes no vestibular e não tem vida amorosa desde os cinco anos de idade, quando conheceu uma garota que se apaixonou, prometendo revê-la na Toudai (universidade de Tóquio). Assim ele cresce com essa idéia fixa, por quinze anos, de entrar nesta universidade, que é a mais concorrida e mais difícil do Japão. Por não ter dinheiro e sofrer constantes fracassos, acaba sendo expulso de casa pelos pais e vai pedir abrigo na pensão de sua avó.

Quando chegai a pensão, descobre que o lugar virou um alojamento feminino, e que sua avó saiu para viajar ao redor do mundo. Ele acaba virando o gerente do lugar e caindo em muitas confusões com as garotas, vendo-as nuas incontáveis vezes. Só que sempre que faz alguma besteira, e elas acabam dando uma surra nele. Mais tarde ele pega gosto pelo trabalho de arqueologia, indo trabalhar com um professor da Toudai, Seta, em busca da civilização Tartaruga.

Fui!

Som en del der ute sikkert har lagt merke til, fikk vi nylig Fanta Lemon tilbake i butikkhyllene, ved hjelp av folkets felles stemme: nemlig Facebook-grupper. Jeg var ikke engang klar over at vi har hatt Fanta med sitronsmak tidligere, men ble positivt overrasket da jeg fant den i butikken i september i år.

Jeg og kjæresten var i Oslo på fredag, og dro innom Brazilia Kebab og Grill (..er det ikke det det heter?) og der spiste vi kebab, drakk Fanta Lemon, og møtte ei venninne.

Kebab er godt, og Fanta Lemon er godt, men Fantaen fikk en helt forferdelig ettersmak på grunn av kebaben. Konklusjon: Ikke prøv det selv. Kebab etterfulgt av Fanta Lemon er absolutt ikke å anbefale.

I jakten på et Creative Commons-lisensiert illustrasjonsbilde, fant jeg diverse forumposter som omhandlet forskjellige prøveprosjekter og forsvunnede smaker i Coca Colas regi. Det viser seg at ganske mange savner en del av dem. Blant de forsvunnede smakene er Vaniljecolaen, Fanta Apple, og Fanta Shokata, eller Fläder, som den heter i Sverige. Shokata smaker hylleblomst og sitron, og etter det jeg kan huske forsvant den for en god stund siden. Den var å finne i Svenske butikker en stund etter at de sluttet å importere fra Tyskland, og jeg merket ikke at den forsvant. Når jeg tenker meg om har jeg ikke sett den på lenge.

Den brusen jeg virkelig savner mest er Fanta med ville bær (også kjent som Wild Berries). Det er en av verdens beste leskedrikker og jeg synes det er synd at den ikke er tilgjengelig i Norge. Jeg kan ikke si jeg har sett den i Sverige de siste årene heller. Får vel melde meg inn i et par Facebook-grupper jeg nå, da.

I går satt min kjære og jeg på med søsteren hennes (og tantebarnet på 3? 4?) til Sverige for å handle litt, og da gikk vi selvfølgelig innom GMJ, Sveriges beste (?) DVD og CD-butikk. Det var en god idé! For der fant vi mye rart vi ville ha. Andre sesong av Mad Men på BluRay (til 199 svenske kroner!) Og Love Hina: the Ultimate Collection på DVD til 99 SEK. Definitivt billig. Kjæresten kjøpte andre sesongen av Californication: en annen TV-serie som er å anbefale om du er moden og har humor. Klikk her for å lese litt om hva den handler om. ”Svigersøster” kjøpte en hel masse filmer fordi det var 1 for 45, 10 for 200 (eller noe sånt). Så da fikk vi Saw IV for at hun skulle ha nok. Det setter vi pris på.

Andre ting jeg har fått tak i den siste uka er “How to Take Over teh Wurld: a LOLcat Guide 2 Winning” (med kjente fjes fra ICanHasCheezburger), og tre bøker i Kelley Armstrongs serie “Women of the Otherworld”.

Også har jeg endelig fått første sesong av the Sopranos (etter anbefalinger fra flere kanter), til 59 kroner på Gamestop. Weeeee.

Ooh! forresten var vi innom NeoTokyos nye butikk i Arkaden, og prøvde Melonbrus (æsj!) og Kawaii Ramune (namnam), begge importert fra Japan. Verdt å prøve til tross for prisen.
