Dommin is a band that defies classification. Overall they have a classic gothic overtone, but hint at influences ranging far outside the genre. Old time rock and roll, 80’s pop and 90’s hair bands crop up often amidst the expected gothic icons from past and present. Throughout the album it is not uncommon to hear bits of music that remind you of a distinct song from the past, but therein lies the problem. Their sound is simply not consistent throughout.  The issue I have is how the music bounces around between genres and musical influences. Sometimes the experimentation works, and other times it doesn’t.  Overall though- it is at least an interesting listen.

Like the band’s hairstyles (The Misfits trademark deathlock), the drum work at times harkens back to the fifties rock of old.  The intro to “Dark Holiday” definitely has a swing or Broadway feel to it. Then there’s Kris Dommin’s voice, who at times sounds very much in the vein of Glenn Danzig (Misfits & Danzig) and at other times more like Dave Gahan (Depeche Mode). Personally, while I like Depeche Mode, but I prefer the Danzig moments-but that is personal preference! The moments when Dommin is apparently using his own vocal styling, rather than borrowing from others,  is the least enjoyable of all of them. Not because he has a bad voice, but because you come to want to hear the other more familiar styles instead.

The beginning of “Making The Most” gave me bad flashbacks to Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse Of The Heart”, but once the guitar kicked in, for some reason it reminded me of Guns N Roses’ “November Rain”, but only briefly! The main guitar riff prevalent throughout “Closure” reminded me of classic destroyers like “Fade To Black”, “One” and “Cemetery Gates”.

Rating the band on its own merits is difficult, as all of it is reminiscent of someone else, whether it is other Goth bands or something right out of left field. I have to say I think it is a good try for a young band, and I expect they will just get better as they continue to grow and find their “own” sound.

Rating: 6 out of 10.

Recommended Tracks: If you are looking for a Depeche Mode type of gothic sound, stick to songs like “Honestly” and “Remember”. Other songs of note are “Closure”, “One Feeling”, “Within Reach”, “Dark Holiday” and “Tonight”.

The 3 filler songs on the album(the longest being 1:15), “Evenfall Hallow”, “Within Reach” and “One Eye Open” can be skipped.

  Azi e ultima zi. Vara s-a sfârşit de două săptămâni deja, dar nu prea am simţit în mod special asta. Îmi place vara, plaja, căldura, bronzul ciocolatiu plus că ziua mea de naştere e în mijlocul verii, pe 27 iulie. Dar, oricum, cu schimbările astea climatice, căldura o să mai ţină probabil până prin octombrie. Aşa că nu prea mă afectează terminarea verii. Totuşi în acelaşi timp cu vara s-a terminat şi vacanţa. Practic, aceste ultime două săptămâni de vacanţă din septembrie, nu mai au niciun farmec. E septembrie şi nu mai ai chef de nimic, şi ai atâtea de făcut. Teme, cărţi de citit, schimbări de look pe ultima sută de metri ca să fii “trendy” la şcoală. Treabă. Multă treabă.

    Acum ar trebui să citesc. Sau să scriu un rezumat. Sau să fac exerciţii la mate. Dar nu. Eu ascult muzică şi vorbesc cu melcoidul meu. S-a mutat în liceu cu mine. Îmi e dator.. Şi sper să nu uite prea curând ), căci eu nu uit. Aşa deci..Meelc e bio-chimist şi se va întâlni în clasă cu două foste colege de clasă, atât ale lui cât şi ale mele bineînţeles, că doar am fost colegi. Presimt că în scurt timp va deveni expert în biologie şi probabil îmi va da meditaţii la engleză. E destul de bun. Aaa, şi să nu uităm de geografie la care e suuper buun. Trecem peste subiectul ăsta. Devine plictisitor.:).Scuuuze meelc, it’s not your fault!!

   Ultima mea zi de vacanţă. Pe 13 iunie, sâmbătă, a început. Pe 13 septembrie, duminică, se termină. Impropriu zis.. De fapt azi e ultima zi. Sâmbătă e oricum zi liberă deci nu o pun la socoteală. Aşa că azi e ultima zi de vacanţă. Sinceră să fiu simt că nu am profitat deloc de vacanţa asta. Simt că nu am făcut tot ceea ce voiam. M-am distrat, am avut la dispoziţia mea cam orice mi-am dorit şi am cerut..Ar trebui să fiu foarte mulţumită. Dar nu. Nu sunt. Am senzaţia că lipseşte ceva… Poate pentru că nu am fost la mare. De obicei când merg la mare mă relaxez la maxim şi uit de probleme, de şcoală, de toate lucrurile negative care îmi cauzează stări negative. Anul ăsta nu am mai mers la mare şi mi-e dor de plimbările pe plajă. Mi-e dor de apa rece a mării negre în care era să mă înec acum 2 ani. Stupid moxx care nu ştie să înoate. ) Mi-e dor de ochelarii de soare care acum stau sub plăpumioară şi aşteaptă să vină din nou vara. Mi-e dor de nopţile mele albe. De nopţile în care mă culcam la ora 3 după ce mă uitam la Anatomia lui Grey. Sau de nopţile în care stăteam pe mess până la 6 dimineaţa şi aşteptam să se trezească ai mei ca să mă prefac că dorm. I’m such a liar, I know!! Mi-e dor de dimineţile friguroase de vară, când mai ploua câte un pic.. Şi eu stăteam sub plapumă dormind lângă căţeluşul meu pufos de pluş. Şi mi-e şi mai dor de zilele cînd mă trezeam la 15:00. Toate au trecut. Şi la momentul lor, nu le-am apreciat. Era ceva obişnuit. Acum.. Nu cred că până la vacanţa de iarnă mă voi mai trezi la 12:00.

   Cel mai tare regret că timpul trece aşa repede şi eu simt că am atâtea lucruri de făcut şi deşi încerc să fac tot ce trebuie nu reuşesc. Şi nu suport. Nu suport senzaţia pe care o ai când ai un eşec. Te simţi un idiot. Ultimul om de pe pământ. Cel puţin aşa mă simt eu. Nu sunt obişnuită să pierd. Poate e un defect. Dar de obicei ideea că aş putea pierde mă ambiţionează. Regret că viaţa e aşa scurtă şi noi nu o apreciem. Iar vacanţele pentru mine sunt ca nişte baloane de săpun- foarte frumoase, de efect, îţi ridică moralul, te fac să zâmbeşti..apoi se sparg, se autodistrug.

   Dar,în fine să terminăm cu filosofia, pentru că mă plictiseşte enorm să vorbesc despre chestii de-astea. 

  Ultima mea zi de vacanţă e la urma urmei un lucru bun. O trezire la realitate. Aşa o să mai apuc şi eu să revăd formele verbelor la engleză şi programele la informatică. Ahh. De când l-am ajutat pe melc cu programele acelea nu m-am mai uitat peste ele. Cred că ar trebui să arunc o privire. Urmează orele de informatică când facem progrămele şi lucrăm cu operatori, variabile şi alte chestii de genul.:)). Super funny. Cel puţin la prima vedere. Cine ştie ce ne rezervă anul acesta?!Totuşi vreau ca azi să nu mă gândesc că se termină ceva, ci că începe altceva. Un nou an cu super distracţii, cu super Moisilist-Party-uri, cu un super Bal al Bobocilor, cu Zilele Şcolii şi Moisivisionul, cu Campionatul de Fotbal al LTGM pe care trebuie să îl câştigăm neapărat pentru că aşa cum am zis întotdeauna, băieţii noştri sunt cei mai buni. Credeţi-mă, chiar sunt! Avem un super portar,pe frăţiorul meu Clauux, şi jucătorii de câmp nu sunt nici ei răi deloc. +celălalt  superrfrăţior al meu, Ionuuţ, care dă superrgoluri şi care anul ăsta trebuie să fie golgeter. Neapărat.:D .Pentru că aşa zice moxx.:)) Deci, o să fie un an plin. 

Trecând peste asta, mi-am propus să petrec ultima zi de vacanţă ca la un spa. Muziică. Multă muzică. La maxim. Să audă şi vecinii mei. Care sunt plecaţi în Spania. ). O plimbare lungă prin oraş. Singură. De obicei dacă vreau să mă relaxez nu pot să o fac decât dacă mă plimb singură, cu căştile în urechi.

[La fel şi cu shopping-ul. Niciodată nu am înţeles ce e aşa interesant să cari pe cineva după tine la cumpărături. I mean.. Mai ales pe iubit:)). E super aiurea. De parcă ai vrea să te convingi că şi lui îi place asta. Hei, dacă e metrosexual, poate că te cheamă el la shopping. )Dacă nu, nu încerca. Nu are rost. Îţi faci nervi. Nu va fi atent la tine. Se va aşeza la o cafenea din mall, te va lăsa să umbli după haine, iar el va face schimb de numere de telefon cu o "sexy bitch" care racolează băieţi drăguţi. Iar tu..Tu ai rămas tot singură nu? What's the point? Mai bine te duci singură. Aşa poţi face tu schimbul de numere de telefon.:)). Glumesc, bineînţeles. Dar măcar profiţi la maxim de shopping, fără să urmăreşti unde sunt privirile iubitului, la tine sau la alta.:). Asta în altă ordine de idei.]

 Deci… Plimbarea.. Ultima plimbare din vacanţa aceasta.. Argh. M-am săturat de chestii sad. Să trecem deci peste. Acum am chef de..David Guetta. După cum vedeţi am pus mai multe melodii de la el. Astăzi îl iubesc. Are câteva melodii care astăzi le-am ascultat de 100 ori. Parcă mă hipnotizează beat-urile lui. He is my crush today!He really is!

 Urmează o rundă de tv. Probabil am să scriu şi un rezumat astăzi. La “La Ţigănci”. Foarte interesantă nuvela asta fantastică. Poate am să mă culc mai devreme. Sau poate nu. Am să văd ce dispoziţie am.

 Cam atât azi. E o zi scurtă. Şi e şi mai scurtă când mă gândesc ce urmează. Dar.. Show must go on! Viaţa continuă. Cel puţin până în 2012. )Asta ar zice melcuul meu. Dar eu sunt optimistă!:)) 

    Sfat: Trăiţi clipa şi nu lăsaţi nimic să vă împiedice să fiţi fericiţi. Profitaţi la maxim de ce aveţi, bucuraţivă de fiecare clipă frumoasă şi aveţi grijă de cei pe care îi iubiţi.

 P.S.1: Din nou fac apel la blog ca să spun cât de tare mă enervează că mă cert cu Laur. Omule, eu chiar ţin la tine. M-am săturat de tot. Dacă vrei să mai fim prieteni atunci zi-mi, dacă nu, înseamnă că nu mai ai nevoie de mine. Eu mă retrag din ecuaţie atunci. Nu-mi place să fiu în plus, să deranjez. Şi nu mai vreau să te deranjez. Sincer îmi pare rău, pentru că to timpul când discut cu tine mă simt bine, indiferent de starea pe care o am. Dar ştii.. Tu când aveai nevoie de cineva atunci când te certai cu blonda ta sau erai deprimat apelai la mine. Şi bineînţeles că eu eram disponibilă. Iar dacă nu eram îmi ceream scuze. Dar tu te supărai oricum. Eu de ce nu m-aş supăra când odată în viaţă am nevoie de tine şi tu nu eşti…!?Şi în plus.. Mi-am cerut scuze că ţi-am zis atunci că nu mă bagi în seamă. Şi din nou niciun răspuns. Păcat. Dar nu mai fac nimic. Ţin mult la tine dar dacă tu nu o să mai ai niciodată nevoie să vorbeşti cu mine, nici eu nu o să mai am. În plus Leii nu se înţeleg bine unii cu alţii. 

 P.S.2: Sunt dezamăgită că Delta Tulcea a pierdut cu Farul Constanţa în Cupa României faza V. Meciul a început promiţător.. Băieţii au jucat frumos, dar am pierdut cu 1-2, după ce am deschis scorul prin Horovei în minutul 20, primind  goluri de la Chico(24),gol din 5 metri dat în urma unei centrări şi Ene,la două minute după începerea reprizei a doua. Dar, în altă ordine de idei Delta joacă duminică, 13 septembrie la ora 13:00 cu Steaua II Bucureşti în deplasare , partida fiind televizată pe Sport.ro . Delta a mai avut un amical cu Steaua II în vară în timpul cantonamentului de la Conca Verde, unde au bătut echipa satelit a Stelei cu 3-0. Urmăriţi-i şi susţineţi-i pentru că sunt foarte buni şi e păcat că nu au avut ocazia să promoveze în liga 1. Şi din nou îl contrazic pe meelcul meu care zice despre fotbalişti că sunt o adunătură de idioţi care aleargă după o minge. Nu e chiar aşa, părerea mea. Ai nevoie de un pic de talent şi antrenament pentru că altfel rişti să ratezi din 7 metri, într-o fază care în 90% din cazuri s-ar fi încheiat cu un gol. Iar tu, melc, încearcă mai întâi să afli ce e ăla offside, când se dă corner,penalty sau lovitură liberă şi apoi zi că sunt idioţi.:)) Nu am nimic personal cu tine, dar chiar nu sunt!

Ela me lembra “Open Your Eyes” do Coldplay, mais “i gotta feeling” me da uma sensação muito boa a musica é perfeita, ela deixa qualquer um animado! Na verdade usa um sample da musica “Love is Gone” do Dj e produtor David Gueta, que junto com Will.i.am produziu o novo CD do Black Eyed Peas “The E.N.D” (energy never dies) que por sinal está muito bom o Black Eyed Peas apresenta uma nova fase mais pop e electro como já diz o titulo do cd a energia nunca morre essa é a essência de “The E.N.D” entra na historia da banda com novo estilo muito animador vai bombar nas festas e baladas!

E o clipe é muito bom, mostra pessoas indo pra uma festa. sem falar que mostra muitas mulheres bonitas e Fergie semi-nua!

Prestando atenção no clipe vi que o Ap.de.ap usa esse Nike Dunk High “Neon Green” ou “317982-031”  faz parte da coleção 2009 da Nike Sportswear,

todo em couro/camurça preto, grafite no Swoosh e toebox e verde neon nos detalhes, combinação simples e bonita. pode ser encontrado o e-bay por alguns dolares! Como eu sei desses detalhes? Eu tenho um tênis desse comprei antes de ver o clipe e quando vi gamei não por causa do tênis é claro eheheh  como eu já disse a musica é perfeita.

Oh yes he is! David Guetta is definitely one of my favourite artists. I started listening to his music somewhen last time, when he had breakthroughs with the songs “Love is gone” and “Delirium”. I really liked his sound, it is very typical on the one hand but there is always something that makes it significantly a David Guetta song. And now he is having a really good year! The music in the song I wrote on before “I gotta feeling” by the Black Eyed Peas was actually produced by him and we all know how successful that song is right now here in the US. And then he is also on UK’s Single Charts for some time and today even on place #1 with the song “When Love takes over”. Guess he can’t be to unhappy about that! And he’s also performing alot, just check out his dates on his website. Wow, that man is busy!

I don’t know if this is just in Europe, or in the States as well, but this song has been getting some SERIOUS airtime.

Personally, I think its genius.

David Guetta, the deity behind serious THUMPA THUMPA beats like “Love is Gone” (one of my all time favorite dance songs), works with Kelly Rowland, a beautiful and talented singer that I think is seriously under-rated (and poorly marketed).

Both artists deserve a big-time hit. I hope this one is it! I’ve been listening to it non-stop (much to the chagrin of the other people sitting here in the hotel lobby)

Jack Ladder is one of those artists that has been ‘bubbling under’ for a few years now. His first album Not Worth Waiting For came and went with little fanfare and he seemed to be a perennial support artist around Sydney, performing with visitors such as Jason Molina, Bill Callahan and Okkervil River.

Love is Gone arrives with an underlying sense of expectation. In the last few months his name has appeared in numerous blogs, street press and You Tube postings and his story of relocation to New York and a change in style with the new record has caught on quickly. The purported new sound is one that incorporates a number of recurring stylistic traits that appear in the form of links to classic late night dive bar r&b and bluesy rock n roll. The gorgeous ‘I Love Your Mind’ is a swaying and swooning take on the sweaty gospel and country soul of the 1960’s. It is the kind of feel that contemporaries like Tindersticks have mastered over recent years albeit with a more velvety smoothness.

Ladder made an excellent choice in taking on members of Pivot and Triosk as his backing band. Musically the album is strong on folky strums, Stax-like horn stabs and looser Stonesy romps, as on ‘Case Closed’, and the band give the songs a tightness and in particular, a strong focus on the rhythm and groove, the key to the backbeat feel that pervades the album. At times it almost borders on pastiche as they veer a little too closely to a sound akin to classics like ‘Time is Tight’ by Booker T. & The MG’s.

The way that Ladder avoids this parody (just) is through his vocal style and his lyrics. Lyrically he treads the path of lost love (hence the album title) across the bulk of the album, one of the exceptions being the catchy but bizarre closing song ‘Mother (Bird is the Word)’ which discusses the subject, perhaps not literally, of eating one’s mother. Animals in fact appear repeatedly in his lyrics. He sings of ducks, rats, dogs, owls and wolves, all animals that in literary terms often inhabit the darker side of the human spirit. Ok, perhaps not ducks.

His vocal style is another element that helps him stand out from the crowd. On slower tracks like ‘You Won’t Be Forgotten’ his delivery slows down and his voice shows touches of Antony in its grain while at other times a Cohenesque feel comes through. It is his vocal habits that are perhaps the only thing holding him back in delivering a really great album. Too often he repeats the dips and sighs in his singing and coupled with the wordier passages it can be bit distracting. In some of the higher tempo tracks Ladder incorporates some Dylanisms into his phrasing and when he uses repetitive couplets like “The Barber’s son won’t cut his hair/Nurse’s daughter does not care/Jockey’s son won’t ride the mare/ Devil’s daughter does not care” on ‘The Barber’s Son’ his manner can appear a tad contrived at times.

Love is Gone is quite a unique album to come out of Australia in that it overwhelmingly references 60’s American music but still retains some element of connection to an Australian indie sensibility, perhaps due to the lack of brashness or the shadow of sensitivity that Ladder invests in the record. This record grows catchier with each spin and the distractions do settle into the sound when one isn’t focusing with such a critical ear.
