A year ago, Jessica Reynolds was balancing an internship at Inside Loyola and CLTV’s Politics Tonight, unsure of where she was headed after graduation.

On Thursday March 28th, however, she sat down with Loyola SPJ for a “Brown Bag Lunch” to discuss her current job: editorial board coordinator for the Chicago Tribune Editorial Board.

The Brown Bag lunches are a way to connect Loyola journalism alums with current members and offer advice to those who are hoping to be successful after graduation. From WGN to the Chicago Tribune and beyond, we have had some very successful alums come back and tell us their stories.

As the editorial board coordinator, Jessica assists in the daily needs of the editorial board and acts as another member of the board. She monitors their social media, participates in meetings, writes for Eric Zorn’s “Change of Subject” blog and occasionally authors editorials. Before starting at the Tribune, Jessica was a news writing intern at WGN and a corporate affairs intern at Olson Public Relations. She said the best thing to do in undergrad is to utilize the professors at Loyola, do as much work outside of the classroom as possible and figure out what the professionals in the field did to make it to where they are today, and follow in their footsteps. Jessica was asked to apply for her current job because she interned at the editorial board her senior year, and always went above and beyond what was asked. She also said she worked very hard in the classroom in order to impress professors, which led to her initial internship. She also said that doing a PR internship can be beneficial to journalism students because it can offer a perspective of what it is like to work with journalists from the other side and also adds a variety of experiences to your resume.

Halas Sports Center is the only full fledged workout facility at Loyola University Chicago. It is located at the Lake Shore Campus.

The only workout facility at the Water Tower Campus (WTC) is located in the Baumhart Residence Hall, and is meant only for students living in that particular residence hall.

Now WTC will have a place to work out. Earlier this semester, the two study rooms on the third floor of the Terry Student Center were closed down, in order to be renovated into a gym.

Construction has officially started on the facility and the gym is expected to be ready just in time for the 2013-2014 academic school year.

A new gym at WTC will allow students, staff, and faculty members who spend the majority of their time at the downtown campus the chance to enjoy a workout center, so they can cater to their own personal health, wellness, and exercise needs.

Loyola News Reporter Kim De Guzman gives us a behind-the-scenes look at the ongoing construction and its effects on students. She also discovers some students and staff members don’t believe the new gym will be used.

A crowd of students gathered Wednesday for the grand opening of Loyola University Chicago’s shiny new student union, The Arnold J. Damen Student Center.

A large crowd grew around the doors of the Damen Student Center as Loyola President, the Rev. Michael J. Garanzini, spoke about its opening.

“This is phase three of our reimagine campaign and I think you’re going to be quite proud … if you haven’t seen it you’re going to be quite impressed with what’s been accomplished here,” Garanzini said.

Damen Student Center was named after the founder of Loyola, and stands on the west side of the university’s Lake Shore Campus in Rogers Park. The 100,000-plus square foot structure, designed to be LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)Silver-certified, provides students with a dedicated space to build community and encourages co-curricular engagement on campus.

The center  features numerous dining options, including the Damen Dining Hall and the Damen Food Court, which offers four distinct restaurant concepts; Ireland’s Sports Lounge; the “L” Stop Spirit Shop; a rock wall; a 125-seat cinema; and plenty of group and meeting space.

Once the ribbon was cut Wednesday and a pathway cleared, a crowd of students, faculty and staff rushed into the new building to begin their tour and be among the first to experience the new features that the student center has to offer.

Some of these features include a brand new spirit store, a bar, a cinema, and an entrance into Halas Sports Center.

For Lynn LeCluyse, 21, senior, journalism major, the new features within Damen are worth the wait that she has endured for four years.

“Even though we have had so much construction going on, I think this will be a great place where people can meet up,” LeCluyse said.

Throughout the day students were given the opportunity to participate in activities designed to introduce them to everything Damen has to offer.

Justin Piper, 21, junior, completed the guided tour that was handed out to guests upon entry.

“They gave us a pamphlet that mapped out the building and we could get it stamped at each location,” Piper, the political science and international studies double major said. “I was pretty pumped about the free meal, but I’m also pumped because now that I’m 21 I can enjoy drinks at the bar in the basement.”

Kevin Brannon, 20, sophomore, environmental science major, also utilized the stamps.

“It’s really awesome that there’s a lot of students that are really excited about [the opening.] Especially with the stamps because that way everyone knows what’s here,” Brannon said. “Today is a little different because it’s so busy, but I feel like once everything mellows up it will be really cool.”

Although the dining services are still the same, students like Kelsie Mazur, 20, sophomore, exercise science major, are excited for a change in scenery.

“I think Damen will be really popular because [the Centennial Forum Student Union (CFSU)] was so bland. There was nowhere to go,” Mazur said. “even downstairs … no one really knew about it.”

The mood of the grand opening was that of a constant high, Piper said.

“I left feeling like this new addition to our school could only be described as ‘progressively awesome.’”

The defending National Champion Loyola men’s lacrosse team traveled to Columbus this past weekend for a showdown with Ohio State. In a low scoring affair, the Greyhounds rolled past the Buckeyes with a 9-4 win.

Joseph and I sat down with someone we really admire a few weeks ago, Jena of ChiCity Fashion. Not only did she give us valuable advice about the real world…but now we know what restaurants to check out in Chicago. Success.

ALEX: So what did you study in school?

 JENA: Marketing. I just knew that I wanted to do some kind of fashion marketing or apparel merchandising. I never wanted to do design because I knew that I’m creative, but I’ve never been good at art or sewing or anything like that. But I wanted to pick my school based on the school, not a specific program. I didn’t want to go to a specialty school I guess. I don’t even know why I went to Miami of Ohio, it’s so not me. Marketing was just the closest thing I could find that fit my interest in fashion.

ALEX: Did you start your blog in college, or after you graduated?

 JENA: Yes, I started it at the very end of first semester of my senior year. I was just bored and totally over the night life at school. I actually started on Twitter. I made a Twitter to keep up with celebrities and found that I really enjoyed the fashion presence on Twitter, like the magazines and designers. I didn’t tweet anything for a few months and then I finally got up the courage to tweet style tips and random things I would find. Then I got a little bit of a following and people would tweet me and ask me if I had a blog, but I didn’t know a lot about it at the time. I knew I definitely didn’t just want to do a personal style blog like “oh come take pictures of me.” At Miami that just wasn’t a thing. Someone had suggested WordPress to me, so I checked it out and made one and I didn’t  tell anyone about it because for the first three months I was so embarrassed about it. I didn’t even tell my boyfriend and we’ve been together for almost five years. Then, I got invited to a show at fashion week so I was like “Is this real?” I thought it was a joke, but I was like “Let’s just try it,” so that’s when I had to tell people. So it was cool, but one of my friends met me and came with me so it was really fun.

ALEX: That’s a crazy experience! I can only imagine.

 JENA: Yeah I still didn’t feel comfortable telling people about it unless they asked me about it, up until maybe around when I started working at eDrop-Off. They were the first ones who really embraced it and wanted to do stuff with me, and it made me feel a little bit more comfortable about it. And now it’s my job!

ALEX: Can’t be embarrassed about it anymore!

JENA: So that…long story short…more long then short..is how that happened.

ALEX: How was the transition from working in fashion, to just being a blogger? Was it difficult?

 JENA: Well lately I’ve just been having a lot of meetings, where people I’ve either worked with before but haven’t met yet just want to meet me in person, or companies want to present me with a new idea or some people kind of just want my opinion. There’s lots of different reasons to have meetings, believe me. I was kind of nervous about the transition at first like “Oh am I going to be sitting at home all the time?” But I’m not at all, which is great. I also have more time to kind of make my blog better. I used a free template for my site until I decided to make ChiCityFashion my full time job. Now I’m working on a mobile site so I’m just always looking for ways to improve. I’ve been doing a lot of research lately.

ALEX: I love your layout already, it’s super easy to navigate which is a nice change from other sites. Where do you see it going from here?

 JENA: I’m really bad at answering those questions. I kind of just wing everything. I don’t just want to be a blogger forever. It’s great for right now, but I don’t think it’s going to be a sustainable career forever, so I’m still trying to figure out what my next move will be. I like being on my own, my parents are entrepreneurs .I’ve always wanted to own my own business, I’m just trying to figure out exactly what I want to do. I also really love food, so sometimes I’m just like I love fashion, but there’s a lot of crap that comes with it and I don’t like dealing with that, but I’m sure that’s how the food industry is too. Lately I’ve just been really interested in it.

 ALEX: Food is always good. Do you think you’ll go into styling?

JENA: When I graduated college I really wanted to be a stylist, but that was at the time that everyone wanted to be a stylist, or “was” a stylist. Once something gets saturated I just move on. I like the idea of it, but I like to do it on a personal level. Anything from “I need help getting ready for an event,” to “I just need a whole new wardrobe.” I would much rather do that then go be responsible for a $100,000 worth of clothes and then pull all this stuff, and in the end, only one look is used. I love the idea of it, but I’m not passionate to do that part. Does that make sense?

ALEX: Yeah, that sounds really overwhelming and kind of scary.

 JENA: The thing that I did with FORD Chicago was perfect because I directed it and assistant styled.

ALEX: What does that mean?

JENA: I came up with the concept, I chose the models, the locations, and all that stuff. My friends Michael is a stylist, so he styled and I went with him on the pulls, but he actually did the pulling. So then when it came down to it, he dressed the models and I just helped out. It was the perfect situation. I remember when he was pulling things he showed me these pants and I was like “those are so ugly!” But he came back and was like “We have to use them!” and I was like “Really??” They were like…these snake print and yellow wide leg pants…and this green jacket…and it sounds crazy, but it looks so cool! It’s stuff like that, where I would never have thought to put that together. I’m more realistic on what I would put together. When it comes to photography, it doesn’t really matter.

ALEX: You have to have a different eye. It’s so different. For people looking to get into fashion, or really anything I guess, what advice would you give them?

 JENA: it’s so cliché…but don’t give up. If you truly want to do something, put all you have into it, and it will happen. There is no reason that it shouldn’t if you give it your all. I mean, I still don’t even know what I’m doing! People email me that question all the time. I feel bad, because everything I did was kind of by accident, so I can’t really give advice on how it happened. I know someone who is very passionate about being in fashion somehow, but his parents don’t agree with that. There are a lot of parents out there who want their kid to be a lawyer or whatever. He just doesn’t care though and he’s such a hustler and does whatever he can to make it work. I know that whatever he decides to do, he’s going to be great at it, because of his work ethic. Also, do your research. A lot of people think they like fashion, just because they like shopping, and that’s how I was when I was younger. But once I did my research, I was genuinely interested in it. I feel like a lot of people just say that they work in fashion or start a blog and expect to become a blogger super star, and it doesn’t work that way. I just write what I want and some people like it. You have to be authentic with it. I don’t try to hide anything.

ALEX: You can tell when someone’s writing just to be popular. We see a lot of that lately. It’s kinda weird. There was a blog that popped up a few months ago that would literally copy my posts.

JENA: That’s so stupid! Did you end it?

JOSEPH: Yeah. We also had an issue with the DePaulia asking to use our street style photos for their newspaper and we were immediately like…no. They wound up not even running the story.

ALEX: Have you ever had an issue with people copying your site? How did you deal with it?

 JENA: There’s smaller instances, but more with my personal style. The only big issue I’ve had with my site, and I don’t even understand how this happened, but it was called “Fashion201.com” and they were copying everything. The same day, for about two weeks, they copied my photos, tags…everything. It was still in first person…so weird. So I found this person and I stalked them.

JOSEPH: Did they have a following?

JENA: No. Nothing. They had no social media sites. At first, I thought it was a virus. I emailed them at first, but they didn’t do anything, so I had my attorney send a letter and they took it down right away. That was the only direct instance. With blogging in general, there’s going to be a lot of times when people copy you, and it won’t be as direct as that. But I know, and it just makes me be even more creative and come up with new things.

ALEX: If you could look back and give yourself advice just starting out in your career, or in college, what would you say?

JENA: I guess it would be, know what you’re worth. I underestimated myself, especially in the beginning. I got screwed over so many times, and it’s hard for me to be assertive. At the end of the day, it’s really just me and what I write, and it’s hard to put a price on that. But, I’ve had people promise me things or I’m supposed to get paid for things, and then they don’t pay me. So, it’s really just about being more assertive and knowing what you’re worth. And that’s with any job. It’s so easy to get taken advantage of. When I got out of college, I had so many unpaid internships, so that too. Don’t do it for too long. Some people do it for over a year, and then they get pissed. But at the same time, you can quit whenever you want. So don’t let people take advantage of you either.

JOSEPH: [Gesturing to the wall of designer items] Do any of these have stories?

JENA: They all have stories.

JOSEPH: Can we hear some?

 JENA: Those are probably my favorite story, the black and white wedges. Proenza Schouler is my favorite designer and that was the collection that truly made me fall in love with them. It was Spring 2010. I’m very motivated when it comes to getting things. If I have my eye on something, I have to get it. I was stalking the shoes, and it was before they had a store so it was super hard to track things down. I fell in love with a different version of these that were on the runway. They wound up not making the runway version into production. I was on the Out-Net one day and saw those at 70% off and they only had my size so I got them and I love them.

ALEX: I’m obsessed with the PS1 medium in the “crowd” print.

JENA: The crowd print! I was at the store, and what they’ve been doing, which I like, is the materials they’ve been using lately is amazing quality. Their finale dress was a crowd print perforated dress, which I’m sure is just astronomical, but they also do a different version of the print on just a silk dress. I’ll show you. Most of the things in here are my favorite things. And all of my handbags.

ALEX: What’s the story behind your custom PS1?

JENA: I am so careful with it. It was after the earthquake in Japan, and the designers in the CFDA all donated something. It was super close to my birthday, and I wound up getting it for like half the price of what it was, and I was going to New York anyway. So I went to their office and I got to meet with Jack and Lazaro, and I was dying. I got to shop the sample sale by myself. It was so cool. It was awesome because they let me use any material I wanted except alligator or croc, so I chose python. It’s a custom color. My initials are on a plaque inside. It’s crazy.

Alex: How long did it take them to get it to you?

 JENA: I made it in July, and I don’t think I got it until December. They had to stop their whole production to do it. They had never made a custom PS1 before.

ALEX: What’s your favorite trend this season? I’ve been seeing a lot of pastels.

 JENA: I actually really like black and white. It’s technically a trend, but I don’t know if I would consider it a trend. I would say peplum is more of a trend. I love it because it’s still neutral to wear other colors and I can add pops of accessories and bright lipstick. It’s shaking things up from wearing all black, and there’s a million ways you can do it. It never gets old.

ALEX: Alright, so I have a few final questions. Where can we find you shopping in Chicago? 

JENA: I prefer Blake and Ikram for higher end shopping. I personally prefer Ikram because everything you see in the store is so beautiful…and their cafe is so good. Sofia Boutique has been my go to store since forever. They use to be in an office building on Clark and Division and I use to go there on my breaks when I would come home from college. I love the stuff that they buy. I also really like Edith Hart. All the places on Damen Ave. are pretty good.

ALEX: And because you love food, I have to ask what your favorite restaurants are right now.

JENA: I hate when people ask me that because it’s so hard to choose! I told you about Eleven City Diner. It makes me so happy. It’s very casual, on 11th and Wabash. It’s super good comfort food. Spacca Napoli out in Ravenswood is my favorite pizza place. The guy who owns it is certified to make Neapolitan style pizza. They make their own cheese, and it’s so simple but the ingredients are incredible. The one I always get literally just has mozzarella, arugula, and basil, but it’s the best pizza. To go with friends, pretty much anything on Randolph St. Like Nellcote, and Au Cheval. Floriole on Webster is also a big go to of mine. I’ve also been to Antique Taco a whole bunch of times, and that’s probably my favorite Mexican food in Chicago. For sushi, I love Arami. It’s hard to find really good sushi here.

ALEX: Any last words for us?

JENA: I had to learn how to negotiate and figure out what I’m worth and just price out certain things and it’s hard. Just try to get everything in writing. I got screwed over so many times because I didn’t have it in writing. I’ve had to learn who I want to work with, and who I don’t want to work with and how I want to do things. Think about the things you want to take on and if it’s worth it. In the beginning, I took on everything. As annoying as it was, I’ve learned so much doing this.

ALEX: People don’t realize that being a blogger is journalism and being an entrepreneur.

JENA: One problem that i’ve noticed, is that a lot of companies don’t know how to work with bloggers. I’m always approached by a PR company, it’s rarely directly with the brand. The bigger companies already know exactly what they want. A lot of people don’t understand how a blogger functions and  I get that because it’s very new and unique. Everything in blogging and social media for a business is so new and people just don’t know what to do with it.

Sean Hannity of Fox News had two guests on Feb. 18th, 2013 who have written an e-book since the Benghazi execution which was September 11th and already have promoted that book about the actions of the men at the scene of the crime. That is miraculous to have the information provided and even the dialogue between the people involved and yet the American people don’t even know where Barack and Michelle Obama were for those 11 hours, nor the Senate and Congress. I say 11 hours because it started out to be an 11 hour event that shrunk to 8 hours over time one of the reasons was not enough time to save some people and this interview brings it back to 11 or more hours.

I watched this video and noticed the man being interviewed got caught by the camera in what appears to be a BIG LIE.

“Book pieces together night of terror strike”

Sean Hannity: Now a new E-book claims that the attacks may have been retaliation for some off the books counter terror operations that were run by John Brennan and that’s the Presidents nominee for CIA Director.

And joining me now are the authors of that new book Benghazi: The Definitive Report former US Army Ranger Jack Murphy and former Navy Seal Brandon Webb. And by the way on the floor of our studio we projected a map of Benghazi.

Now, before we get to the book we’re gonna go through the timeline of events from that night. Guys welcome uh to the program. Good to see you both.  (they mumble ) Look this is important because you’re saying that events that we don’t know about could have precipitated these attacks. Good Summary?

They are the experts so why say it’s absolutely accurate to say

“COULD HAVE”.

This is lawyer jargon and is absolutely “meaningless.” 

Jack Murphy: Yeah. Yeah. That’s absolutely accurate.

Sean Hannity: Okay. And… Alright. So let’s start with the timeline of events.

Jack Murphy: Its began at approximately 9:40 at night when the attacks were initiated with RPG’s hitting the consulate, actually the temporary mission facility that we know now that we call it the consulate. Uh, at that point the local militia guards were unarmed they fleed (FLEAD?). They were only armed with bats (BATS?) essentially, so when they see this mob coming they take off. They cut and run. The attackers breached the main gate and they overrun the compound? Uh, uh, at this point Ambassador Stephens er is going into the safe room inside the consulate and the DSS agents were retrieving their tactical gear and making a call up the higher to say they’re getting hit. So by 10:05 ? What you have is…

So what about the bloody hand prints on the walls inside Benghazi.

Is that the cutting and running? This is BS.

If all the deaths happened on the rooftop,

then what happened inside?

Looked like torture and execution to me on those walls.

Bloody prints of fingers dragging down on the walls inside…..Remember?

What was that, for effect?

Sean Hannity: Can I just stop you right there?

Jack Murphy: Yeah.

Sean Hannity: F for those that said this was uh in retaliation for a you-tube video and this was a spontaneous demonstration: they had mortars, rocket propelled grenades. This was not, this was not spontaneous.

Jack Murphy: No, it’s not spontaneous. And in the State Department they talk about arresting or detaining a Libyan policeman who’s taking pictures of the consulate with his cell phone that morning.

Sean Hannity: Right.

Jack Murphy: So there were people planning this attack ahead of time.

What does a cell phone have to do planning ahead of time?

Sean Hannity: Okay, back to the timeline.

Jack Murphy: So by 10:55, 10:05 PM. Excuse me. Ty Woods and other Global Response staff members from the nearby annex about half a mile away were preparing to go to the consulate and rescue the State Department’s personel who were tied up there and Ty Woods was really instrumental in uh setting, putting together that rescue effort and insisting that it go forward and go in there.

Sean Hannity: Now, he was told to stand down and I interviewed his father and his family…

Jack Murphy: By the…..

Sean Hannity: We, we still don’t have answers to that question.

Jack Murphy: It, it, it was actually the person who was in charge of the annex that initially said, “No. it’s not our job to go in there.” Um, but Ty actually convinced them otherwise, and to his credit that person actually reversed course and agreed with Ty.

So who was in charge of the annex?

How does an ex-Navy-seal or an Army Ranger know? 

Obviously, he has been given the details by the way of ” the higher.”

And who might that be?

Sean Hannity: Did he convince them or did he disobey orders?

Jack Murphy: I,  I think he convinced them.

(turns back to the right at Brandon Webb laughing)

Does he look trustworthy?

I was under the impression he disobeyed orders

so what is that whole story about?

Stand down, etc? 

What about the footage that we have seen numerous times with armed men threatening each other on a rooftop……..

was that “the convincing”?

How do these guys know all this and where were they 3 months ago?

These two men are on Fox News with Hannity to put a stop to the investigation

with false information, IMO.

How would he know if Ty convinced them?

Webb: I think, you know, Ty just showed a lot of initiative. He was a senior guy, years of special operations, and he just said, ”look eh”,  knowing and being overseas and being in these conflicts before, he said, ”We need to act now to save these americans. If we don’t move now, and go, more people are going to die.”

(So was Ty not american? Maybe Tiger Woods knows?)

Hannity: Okay, back to the timeline.

(Obviously has notes, I guess 3 months isn’t enough time to get it memorized)

Murphy: By 11 PM, the eh attackers completely overran the compound and the uh team uh from the uh annex is making their way to the consulate to conduct this rescue operation.

Webb: Um, once they’re at the annex the…. basically, the attack slowly followed them back and so the one. The one difference between the uh the State Department uh Compound and the CIA Annex is that the CIA had a very heavily fortified position. I mean, they had their act together when it comes to security so they, you know, throughout the night they were fending off uh small attacks. And then 5 AM the team from Tripoli (Libya or Lebanon?) comes up and it, it’s important, the the the the team from Tripoli is important, because here you have a group of CIA JSOC (Joint Special Operations Command) Operators and which included Glen Doherty (licks)

“The Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) is a subunified command of the US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM).  It is charged to study special operations requirements and techniques, ensure interoperability and equipment standardization, plan and conduct special operations exercises and training, and develop joint special operations tactics.”

who were trying desperately to get up to Benghazi. (gulps) Um, you look at why it’s important is because ultimately the 2 JSOC, uh Joint Special Operations guys; they had uh a device called a Rover, which is essentially – you, it beams down the the  predator drone for ..(probably lazer but not sure of the word he said)… device. So that now they have an increased situational on the ground (licks) at the CIA Annex and they ultimately made the call when they saw that more and more attackers were amassing outside of the gate: Glen went up to the roof, saw Ty, they embraced and they were still engaged in the fight. Then they got bracketed by three mortar rounds. The first one hit Ty, uh killing him. The second one hit Glen. The third one uh injured one of the other security guys on the rooftop.

At just before 7:30 they made the decision Hey, we gotta get out of here.

(Who made the decision? JSOK Operators?)

Now, the Pope has left his post and retired for the sake of the church. Says he’ll be hidden. In answer to Eric Bolling and Ed Beckel it seems to be premeditated mesmerization of the trial of Arias by Fox News, but for what purpose? I could not convict her of murder because she doesn’t even remember murdering her boyfriend. Where’s the knife? It wasn’t her and the gun that killed him, it was someone with a knife as far as I have ascertained. Those 4 roommates need to be questioned more since they were with the body for 4 days in an apartment. I could convict her of attempted manslaughter of her boyfriend. I could not convict her of premeditation to kill because I don’t know that she intended to kill him or whether in fact she did kill him. Just because she lied a bunch after shooting him is telling of her shock at what she did with the gun, her fear, and her self preservation. I think this is a group murder because of the odd circumstances with the friends and roommates, their religion, a place called Margaritaville that did not exist and his body hanging out for four days in a bath tub with his so called friends/roomates in an apartment stinking up the place. I think she was used as a fall guy for a mob/church type killing. At face value it doesn’t add up. I think she is the coverup for his death. Basically I think this is a cult murder. Bob Woodward is  another good case in point. He broke the story about Watergate and he was a hero. Now he broke the ranks and stood up and admitted being threatened by Obama’s legion (reminds me of Billy Graham kind of tactics) and everyone else attacks him. Talk about a bunch of cowards. How about standing by his side and act like a real man or woman instead of like french chickens. It’s like when a woman gets raped and reports it and gets attacked for standing up for herself. (the Islamic way.) If you don’t stand up now, it might be you next.   You would think the press would care about freedom of the press and the responsibility of the press. I know I have offended everyones idol but like Obama drapes himself in women,

so the poster woman drapes herself in children for reasons that are

beyond reason. Being beautiful isn’t all it is cracked up to be, but that is what you sell…unattainable beauty

I have mixed feelings about her because on the one hand I’m jealous of her beauty (I’m only human lol although I don’t linger on it too much) and on the other I have enjoyed some of her movies one in particular (I can’t remember the name) where she steps off of a mine to save her lover in Chechnya I think which I found to be a very good movie. But she represents a power I do not appreciate and I think they have used her without her full knowledge and not in good faith such as the panda bear picture below represents to me. It is the UN and those that uplift it. They want our money, our rights, our freedom, our blood, our sweat, our hopes, our dreams, our privacy, our futures, our jobs, etc

for their charity at their discretion. It will never be even or a level playing field. Have you noticed that the rich get richer and the poor and now the middle class get less and less your way. It is apparent that the UN, and it’s abusers are benefitting a great deal and apparently you are one of the beneficiaries. Angelina Jolie undergoes double mastectomy

I’m glad Angelina Jolie is doing well since her new surgery and can live her life the same as before. I was sorry to hear she had to contemplate this because of heredity and the probability of going through what her mother went through but the lady on Fox news who had the same decision to make seems to be a good lead in this kind of dilemma. I’m sure it is hard for her and brings back some tough memories about her mom. A few years back I went through surgery for an acute peritoneal abscess and acute sepsis and almost died. I was full of pus for an unknown reason. Stress was part of the problem caused by what stressed me out. I was having a personal crisis. The first time I went to emergency they misdiagnosed me took me off the antibiotics (big mistake) so 24 hours later I returned when it got much worse and had they left me on the antibiotic I would probably have avoided a whole lot of pain but who can know for sure. Still I was lucky to have great doctors the second visit who knew what they were doing. I have a 14 inch scar down my torso and did not have reconstructive surgery but let the two sides grow together and now I have two belly buttons:) Thought about imbedding jewels down the scar but thought nah it might just cause more trouble. Inhibits me from some things now and I live with it and it still hurts depending on my activities. It did slow me down quite a bit. Hopefully for Angelina Jolie it won’t slow her down for very long. The reason I added my personal information even though I’m an average woman of no great stature or beauty and no one really cares about my body is because I felt like a big jerk for having written what I wrote about her but the fact is I did. I still feel the same about her being pandered and pandering to the UN and Hollywood however the timing was unfortunate. I apologize for that and the best that I can do is add her to my prayers which I already have.

Crisis institutionalization is a bad idea because it causes stress. Stress makes people sick. I suppose it would make Obama Care seem needed if he can cause sickness by instituting a crisis atmosphere however it would not help the people who are affected by crises. It’s a crazy stupid idea and I would call it just EVIL. Many people suffer from post traumatic stress syndrome which I was told by my doctors that I might have been suffering because of my personal crisis at the time, the trauma of the operation, and the sepsis. It is inhumane to contemplate the idea that Obama told to the wealthy and much more inhumane to implement it. I hope he regrets his stupidity and insensitivity to the average man and takes his dangerous ideas and toys and leaves his post as President of the United States for being stupid enough to voice it. It seems obvious that he is producing some of these crises since he wants to institutionalize them because of the affect they have on the people. That is sick. When a President loses his right mind he should be impeached and that idea alone is reason enough to impeach him.

I don’t consider art evil. THAT IS MY PERSONAL OPINION. I’m an artist so I have an appreciation for good art but we don’t need to urinate on each other. However other countries that make women wear burkas would probably gasp, threaten families, isolate family and friends, chop off limbs, behead, crucify, imprison, torture, maim and scar, bomb, and drone others to make an insane gesture for an insane reason for a political agenda and it is starting to resemble the US. I think our country is headed that way and it is worth fighting back and against those that would have us head in that direction. What happened in Texas and in Boston are Huge indicators of government, politics, religion, and power gone mad.

Obviously our country has it’s problems and needs a bit of tweeking but I believe that that can be done by a loving Father and his son in his way in his time and his fashion as he did with me and other people in spite of a rabid power that perverts knowledge, love, hope, faith, beliefs for personal gain, personal ambition and personal pleasure at the expense of others and mostly against women and children and the disadvantaged using their victimization, mental illnesses, crises or weaknesses for their pleasure, personal and political advantage.

OBVIOUSLY OUR GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO BE REINED IN.

Recently I looked up Marilou Henner from the sit com Taxi because I remember a few years back she said “they know everything about you” at least that is what she meant and I just found bunches of you tubes where she and others remember everything they have done on any date in their past which seemed like a big switch from her earlier statements, As if she was snatched in a way. Something strange is going on there but the difference in statements is what caught my attention now.

I heard that the NSA (National Security Agency) are building a huge complex in Utah and I think it is related to her earlier statement. I think they are abusing our rights and intend to further impinge on our rights for their security. I wonder if the events occurring lately isn’t in their interest. Maybe we should ask Marilou Henner or Charlie Sheen, Mr. Neocat, since on that same show about the NSA he said “We’re winning.”  WInning what?

About Boston Bomber Narrative

Off and on watching Fox news on Sunday April 21 and amazed by their total hard core stupidity. I’m hoping they get better. One man described the alleged bomber in the hospital as being “dumb as rocks,” because of his alleged school grades at college. The man describing the alleged bomber seemed to satisfy that description as well as the blond at Fox News defending the singing of Sweet Caroline at a game. IT WAS SURREAL. I get the impression she took offense at my blog post about the Boston Bruins display. I get the feeling she wishes he won’t get a trial and hoping he gets the death penalty (even though there is no proof so far that I have seen that he is responsible in the least) because he will be 20 years old in July. The same woman of Fox News just said today that the alleged bomber became a citizen on September 11th this last year.

THAT IS A BIG COINCIDENCE. 

Just heard it had been all over the news for the last three days. Funny I never saw it but I do think it is relevant.

Luckily I was blessed with some really cool miracles that help me to remember which seems to be a problem with many people in the world they just keep forgetting and I think that is a result of not believing. I think marijuana should be decriminalized. Get the criminals out of the business and treat it like cigarettes and alcohol and be given absolution to the indicted or incarcerated for possession or small sales of marijuana. I have used marijuana, effexor, cigarettes and alcohol and tried a few other things in the past.  Alcohol is fine if used in moderation and I think the same for marijuana. I don’t think anyone should drive under the influence of any drug or alcohol (or fly planes!) or operate any kind of machinery or be in charge of kids or in authority of others where others can be affected but I believe privacy in a home is imperative unless kids are hurt sexually or physically. I think emotional and mental abuse is prevalent in most homes to some degree just because that is how people treat each other most of the time even in those fine dignified classy ones. People live in an imperfect world and tend to shed the effects of that world on those around them especially between the sexes or under the influence

 of the various cults that people tend to flock. (and that includes peer pressure and mob rule, but that seems to be unavoidable within those groups.) 

 

I have seen so many ads for drugs on tv that cause so much harm and yet under some circumstances are good.

I know the harmful effects of any drug can be bad, but sometimes their use is good and vice versa.

 

When people are broke and without jobs I would imagine a little flexibility in these areas is a good gesture,

especially in regards to marijuana. I know when I was deeply depressed marijuana helped me for at least a little while a few hours anyway to let off or vent some anger because it made me laugh if off for that short time but that was enough to alter my devastation. It helped. I know it is not the best answer, but at the time it was available.

Once my dad who is the straightest man I ever knew became severely depressed and went to get an anti-depressant from his doctor which is highly unusual for him and within a few months was out of his depression, but anti-depressants can also be harmful because it makes many complacent with their status or condition or underlying problem, like a mask. GOod article about psychiatric drugs being by perpetrators of some horrendous crimes and I think it is the facilitator to many things going on lately such as the Aurora theater massacre. Since WWll there are groups that use drugs to manipulate innocent people to do very bad things using drugs and other techniques within our government and in the civilian population:

But as a kid marijuana and alcohol are not helpful. Got me into a lots of troubles. I’m sure there are extenuating circumstances though even for kids. Also when I was young and high strung and out of control/frantic my mother gave me a fraction of a pill (can’t remember the name of it) and it helped.  It didn’t happen a lot but there were a few times I needed it. My dad said his girls were neurotic and most girls are neurotic especially around their periods.

I think prescription drugs often are worse than marijuana.

People definitely should not be killed or imprisoned over marijuana, that is for sure. Most people that use marijuana are law abiding citizens in every other aspect of their life regarding the laws of the land even more so than alcohol users. Alcohol use can cause aggression in some people and I have never witnessed marijuana to do what alcohol does in that regard.

I think the effects of marijuana hurt the user more than anyone else

 such as being silly stupid (but sometimes that is helpful), paranoid, uninvolved, lazy and unmotivated while the use of alcohol usually hurts others more than the user because alcohol can cause severe aggression of all kinds. Most rapes, fights, physical abuse, sexual abuse, incest, and murders, I believe, occur under the influence of alcohol. I guess it is relative to each person, but marijuana is far less dangerous than alcohol except for it’s criminal ties to the underworld, gangs, the mob and drug pushers but such was the history of alcohol. If we can alleviate that aspect of the drug it would make a huge difference, in my opinion.

I would rather be around a person who is stoned than a person who is drunk in a physical way because I would feel safer. I think marijuana and the content and strength of the drug that is in it could be better controlled than it is now and in the past. The “coolness” of it would be lessened which would make it less desirable.

My cousin spent time in Huntsville Prison for marijuana. I don’t know the details but he is one of  the sweetest young men you could meet, but he had had about 6-8 step dads in his life. Is it any wonder he was a bit mixed up at an early age.

I don’t have that excuse because my parents were for the most part pretty devoted to each other most of their marriage. My excuse was drugs were everywhere when I lived in Virginia and the Viet Nam war was occurring and  I was very peer impressionable and my dad was away at war. I think the  propaganda about “Just say no,” is a good deterrent and other modes of teaching in regards to drugs, alcohol, DUI, and sex. (Helps with the social taboos.) And let Law Enforcement concentrate on the DUI’s and hard core drug dealers, illegal gun dealers who are more likely to commit real crimes such as rapes, murder, kidnapping and child pornography and sex trafficking especially of youths, cult crimes and money laundering.

Now I rarely have a drink and when I do I only have one or two. I haven’t had pot in years. So I grew up quite a bit. 

 

I find it interesting that the President, the Senate and the House of Reps and all the people that work in those areas of our government and the other areas of government and the Press (with a few exceptions! ) seem more apathetic to what happened in Benghazi than does the public at large and I wonder what it is they are taking as their drug.

Must be OPM that makes them apathetic which hurts everyone.

I agree with Eric Bolling of “The Five” on Fox News about the legalization of gambling. It is allowed here and there, but not everywhere. It’s a risk but no one should lose a job over it, or their reputation, or their life. There would be more competition and laws to govern when disputes arise such as when someone gets in over their head and can’t pay and instead of some mob or mob boss handling it, the courts could handle it.

Get the criminal ingredient out of the business.

Basically take the legs out of the mob and deal with them on more serious issues such as child pornography and the sex trade, murder, hard drugs and arms trading and take their legitimacy from beneath them and concentrate on arming the enemy, such as:

Eric Holder and the Obama Administrations involvement with Fast and Furious and Benghazi and the arms traded there and put into the enemy’s hands. If we are at war with terrorism then why send money and weapons to Egypt if they are intent on the death of Christians, Americans, and Jews via terrorism. How about the Syrian rebels. No one knows where they stand and yet Europeans and some Americans want to arm them. 

Isn’t that a crime?

“This is a real part of American history and these guys lived it and battled and really stood up to some of these awful, awful things and they still have a smile on their face and they keep saying, ‘We’re just playing a basketball game,’” said Kraft.

Loyola won that historic contest, 61-51, behind 20 points from two-time All-America selection Jerry Harkness, and would go on to win the 1963 NCAA Championship.

Harkness, who would go on the play in the NBA, said it was the beginning of the end of segregation and it happened on a basketball court.

More interestingly, in Ignatius of Loyola’s Spiritual Exercises, the heart of its sensual spirituality climaxes for the retreatant in the final contemplation of finding God in all things.

Consider how God dwells in creatures; in the elements, giving them existence; in the plants, giving them life; in the animals, giving them sensation; in human beings, giving them intelligence … consider God labors and works for [you] in all the creatures on the face of the earth; … he is working in the heavens, elements, plants, fruits, cattle, and all the rest – giving them their existence, conserving them, concurring with their vegetative and sensitive activities, and so forth. … Consider how all good things and gifts descend from above.[1]

This passage, and many similar to it throughout the Exercises, provides the foundation for the Ignatian principle of ‘finding God in all things.’ Ignatius’ worldview is thoroughly Thomistic in the sense that all things, people included, strive to realize their telos of serving and moving towards God. Thus God is to be found in all things in so far as they reveal, and assist with the movement towards, this telos.

Though Ignatius may not have had a contemporary panentheistic cosmology in mind, his spirituality affirmed a pansacramental cosmology that allows for the manifestation of God in all things.  However, to be sure, Ignatian spirituality does not reduce God to merely the sum total of the World. Rather, it stresses God’s otherness and beyond-ness of the world. [2]

It is precisely through this affirmation that God is beyond the world that paradoxically allows for God to be found in the world (through all things). The Jesuit Karl Rahner explains, “God is more than [our images and concepts of God, whether natural or supernatural]. And as the one who is more than the world, God has broken into human existence and has burst apart this world and what theology calls, ‘nature.’”[3]

God is simultaneously in nature and beyond nature.[4] This why Ignatian spirituality calls for an initial “flight from the world” in order to come back to the world and to find God in all things in a sensual manner, as portrayed in the Exercises. So sacramentality and sacramental language assist in bridging this spirituality of Ignatius with an Ignatian theological understanding of God as both in and beyond the world. As Rahner puts it, God remains the ‘mystery’ that is ‘infinitely knowable;’ that is, God is knowable only to a certain extent, thus one might find God sacramentally in all things (the sacramental principle), yet God simultaneously remains infinitely beyond all things.

If Roman Catholics take seriously the Ignatian tradition practiced by Pope Francis, and its principle and God is to be found in all things, then what might this mean for interfaith relations and interreligious learning?

Similar to the current scenario, protests took place in the year 2009 in India, UK, Australia and Canada, urging the world leaders to bring a unanimous ceasefire agreements to the Sri Lankan Civil War which has been taking place for over 25 years. Even after the Civil War came to an end, at the end of the year, protests and demonstrations continued, demanding governments to undertake a war-crimes inspection in Sri Lanka.

In the year 1983, LTTE, the militant organization went against the Sri Lankan Government and demanded a separate Tamil state which led to the civil war that in which the Tamil Tigers were defeated by the Sri Lankan military forces. After many years of struggle and years of failed peace agreements, conflicts that centered on particular sects turned out to cause a Civil War in which 80000-100000 persons were killed and many more injured. Even international intervention couldn’t stop Eelam Wars ll and lll. It was a moment of happiness in Sri Lanka when LTTE leader Prabhakaran was declared dead on 18^th May 2009. Although it was a relief that the military operation was finally over, it was troubling that so many innocent civilians were killed in the course.

Tensions between LTTE and Sri Lanka prevailed but just when people thought that things are pretty much under control, the sensitivities of students in Tamil Nadu heated up when a British broadcasting channel released pictures of Prabhakaran’s 12 year old son lying cold and dead after being shot on the chest five times by the Sri Lankan Army. Protests began, an initiative by Loyola College students that proved to be a kick start for other colleges to continue the strikes, gaining momentum. Initially, the main agenda behind the strikes was to get justice for the Sri Lankan Tamils but the strikes went on to oppose the Central Government as political parties started influencing these strikes.

“All we want is to declare Sri Lankan Army and the Rajapaksa Government as accused of genocide and we want the Indian Government to take necessary measures to ensure the bill be passed in favour of the Sri Lankan Tamils at a new sitting in the UN in September”, says Pushkin, a student from a Chennai based Law College. When asked why the strikes involved violence Pushkin claimed that only violence reaches the Central Government and peaceful protests would take the agenda nowhere. Opposing this, Mr.Ashok Xavier Gladstone, belonging to the department of social work, Loyola College said “violence and agitation is definitely not a key to a quick solution. Silent protests can gain as much attention as violence, except it takes time. Students are a lot distracted by what the media portrays and they do not have the patience to wait till silence protests gain impulse.”

A 30-year-old man died after setting himself ablaze in Chennai over Sri Lankan Tamils’ issue as protests continued against the island nation’s government across the state. He is the second person to immolate himself in the on-going protests. Such acts are often branded as acts of bravery. But what sort of bravery is this when people who call themselves sensitive over the issue immolate themselves rather than being a part of the situation and doing something about it until a solution is arrived at?

Mr.Gladstone feels that how much ever people fight for the rights of Tamils, how much ever support other countries give for the Tamil, there is no end to the situation for he thinks that if a chance was to come, it would have, many years ago and he strongly hopes that one day the public realizes that. One fails to understand that the scenario in Sri Lanka has become far better and that the Tamils across the country no more flee to neighboring countries as refugees. It is nice to see the socially aware students fight for the rights of a minority community but it is essential for them to also be politically aware of the situation.

Despite a career-high tying 14 saves from junior goalie Greg Dutton, the No. 12/13-ranked Ohio State men’s lacrosse team fell to No. 5 Loyola, 9-4, Saturday in front of 1,877 fans in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The Buckeyes fall to 6-3 on the year (1-2 ECAC), while the Greyhounds improve to 8-2 (4-0 ECAC).
“Loyola is an excellent team and did an outstanding job,” Nick Myers, Ohio State head coach, said. “Defensively, we played our scheme and Greg did a great job in goal for us. Offensively, we have to find our identity. It was a 3-3 game and I thought we were doing some positive things, then we threw the ball away several times before the half and gave them some a couple goals that way. We have to find the balance between generating quality shots and not being so reckless with the ball.”

Loyola Refugee Outreach, a student-run organization, established in 2009, works to make the resettlement process easier for Chicago refugees. The program pairs two student volunteers with each refugee family, and works specifically with refugees that have resettled in the Rogers Park neighborhood. The students befriend the refugee family and work to make the family feel welcome in Chicago through meeting with them at least once a week. The students take their refugee families grocery shopping, offer English language assistance, assist children with homework and take them to Chicago sights such as the Lincoln Park Zoo. Sometimes students simply spend time at the homes of the refugee families to offer friendship, listening and support, and to ensure they feel welcome in the neighborhood.

As students stand beside refugees through sometimes-difficult transitions into their new homes, the volunteers also gain cultural knowledge. Students share Chicago culture with refugees, while refugee families bring their own cultures to Rogers Park. Some refugees teach students native songs, dances and share tea or food dishes from their homelands. Loyola Refugee Outreach serves not just as a program to assist refugees, but also to unite a multitude of different cultures.

Amick said Loyola students walk down the streets and notice people in different clothing who speak different languages, but aren’t sure who they are. Loyola Refugee Outreach volunteers begin to learn more about where these individuals come from, what they might be struggling with in resettlement and what these other cultures are like. Through learning more about the refugee community, students learn how they can serve these individuals better, and make them feel welcome and comfortable in their new Chicago homes. Loyola Refugee Outreach is just one way that students are living out the Jesuit ideal of service.

After three-consecutive road games, the No. 13/12-ranked Ohio State men’s lacrosse team (6-2, 1-1 ECAC) returns to Columbus for back-to-back home games, beginning Saturday with a matchup against No. 5/5 Loyola (7-2, 3-0 ECAC) at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

The game is a doubleheader with the Ohio State women’s program, which hosts Hofstra at 11 a.m. in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
