<p>I believe &#8220;L&#8217;enfant&#8221; is another one of those movies where audiences will be quick to judge and label it as the kind of movie where &#8220;nothing happened.&#8221; Written and directed by Jean-Pierre Dardenne and Luc Dardenne, the film told the story of a couple (Jérémie Renier and Déborah François) who recently had baby. However, both of them were very young and the first few scenes of the picture established them as parents who were far from ready to raise a child. What&#8217;s even worse is that the father actively doesn&#8217;t want to get a job. He would rather steal from people and sell the objects he stole for a quick buck. Faced with the responsibility of raising a child, he saw the child as another means of making money. There&#8217;s a certain sadness about this picture that fascinated and angered me at the same time. I was very angry with the characters&#8217; decisions, especially the father&#8217;s, but I could not help but wonder how the consequences of their actions would change (or not change) them in the long run. While the movie did not have a lot of dialogue, the silent moments and body movements were enough to let the audiences feel the gravity of certain situations and the desperation of the two leads. I also enjoyed the brilliant symbolism regarding the father and his way of constantly selling things. I thought it was very fitting considering that he was the kind of person who did not want to get attached in fear of finally being responsible for something. Lastly, the use of bright colors for a somewhat grim story provided a nice contrast. This is a small movie but I found it to be quite powerful because it had a certain insight without really judging its characters. It simply shows what is and sometimes that&#8217;s enough to make us question ourselves how we would have done things differently if placed in similar situations. Strangely enough, even though I did not agree with more than half of the characters&#8217; choices, I still felt for them and ultimately wanted them to succeed or maybe even lead a better life, especially for the newborn. If one is up for an honest experience via a cinematic medium, one should consider to watch this movie.</p>

<p>61° Festival di Cannes (più di dieci minuti di applausi), ma non solo: la giuria lo ha premiato per la migliore sceneggiatura. Del resto i fratelli Dardenne sono abituati ai riconoscimenti: proprio Cannes li ha incoronati per ben tre volte, con la Palma d’oro per <em>Rosetta</em> nel 1999<em> </em>e <a href="http://www.cinema4stelle.it/RecensioneLenfant.htm"><em>L’enfant</em></a> nel 2005, con il premio per l’interpretazione maschile a Olivier Gourmet per <em>Il figlio </em>nel 2002. <strong>Jean-Pierre e Luc Dardenne</strong>, di estrazione sociale modesta, cresciuti a contatto col mondo operaio, sono noti per il loro cinema del disagio sociale, un cinema secco e rigoroso che spesso costituisce un’ardua sfida alla platea, un cinema forte e nobilissimo, un cinema che evidenzia come il danaro sia l’unica religione, un cinema che angoscia e fa disperare sul futuro dell’umanità, un cinema che mette a disagio gli spettatori con vicende sgradevoli al massimo.<br />
Ne <strong><em>Il matrimonio di Lorna </em></strong>(ma preferibile il titolo originario, protagonista del film è infatti il silenzio inteso come <em>“tutto ciò che Lorna nasconde agli altri e a se stessa”</em>, Megamodo.it, un silenzio <em>“interiore e la parola espressa…un tentativo di far tacere una coscienza in tumulto”</em>, Cinergie.it) i toni sembrano ammorbiditi e diversi: abbiamo sempre i principali ingredienti del Dogma 95 (linguaggio minimalista, messa in scena priva di fronzoli e orpelli vari, mancanza di colonna sonora esterna aggiunta o luci artificiali, macchina da presa a mano, ambienti reali…), ma è abbandonato il tipico formato 16 mm (sostituito dal 35 mm, con inquadrature più larghe, più ferme e meno in movimento: <em>“la cinepresa è diventata testimone più che attore”</em>, Philippe Elhem), i dialoghi abbondano, e la vicenda raccontata, pur imperniata sempre su disperati emarginati indifesi (e sfruttatori),  sembra offrire -con il suo finale aperto e inatteso- una lieve luce di speranza (è un <em>“inno alla libertà” </em>secondo alcuni critici).<em>“disposta a rendersi complice di una macchinazione spaventosa pur di raccogliere i soldi necessari per realizzare il suo sogno</em>, diventa simbolo di chi vuole <em>riappropriarsi di un’umanità svanita nella selva delle violenze quotidiane” </em>(Joshua Massarenti). A salvare Lorna saranno i suoi rimorsi: “<em>in un mondo così cruento, il senso di colpa è l’unico sentimento che ci consente di accedere all’umanità” </em>hanno dichiarato i registi. La incarna una bravissima <strong>Arta Dobroshi</strong>, eccezionale nell’esprimere cinismo freddezza e determinazione (apparente) sentimento fragilità e pietà (nella sostanza).<br />
Ma tutto il cast è da applauso in questa opera costruita come un thriller arricchito da una serie continua di colpi di scena che coinvolge lo spettatore non permettendogli la minima distrazione.</p>

<p>&#8220;Lorna&#8217;s Silence&#8221; is the newest film by two of the world&#8217;s best filmmakers: the Dardenne brothers, Jean-Pierre and Luc. Although still fairly obscure to the majority of Americans, anyone with a passion for cinema can easily recognize their vast amount of imitators and devoted followers. They make relentlessly raw pictures, cruel and natural, a harsh endeavor into social realism. Their characters are all driven by guilt, often forced to come face-to-face with their most vicious mistakes and make amends. &#8220;Lorna&#8217;s Silence&#8221; is perhaps the most atypical of their work, and it&#8217;s not on the level of some of their best (&#8220;The Child&#8221;, &#8220;The Son&#8221;), but a bad film from such brilliant filmmakers is about on par with a masterpiece by anyone else.</p>
<p><!--more-->Lorna (Arta Dobroshi), an Albanian immigrant, has recently earned Belgian citizenship by marrying a drug addict, Claudy (Jérémie Renier). The marriage is a sham, however, as Lorna only wishes to open up a bar with her boyfriend, Sokol (Alban Ukaj). The plan was put together by a shady mobster, Fabio (Fabrizio Rongione), who plans to marry Lorna for his own citizenship once Claudy is out of the way. Initially, the idea was for Claudy to overdose, but things aren&#8217;t so easy when Claudy is inspired to quit his drug habit cold.</p>
<p>Jérémie Renier, a frequent favorite of the Dardennes (he played the young father in &#8220;The Child&#8221;, the boy in &#8220;The Promise&#8221;), plays Claudy as a vile creature with a perpetual tremble and the neediness of an infant. Early on, Lorna fills a bowl of water for him as kneels on the floor in pain. Although an opportunist, Lorna is not entirely devoid of compassion. She takes pity on him, and plans to divorce him rather than killing him. She tells him to hit her. Claudy can&#8217;t. Suddenly she&#8217;s aware that she&#8217;s become a sort of surrogate mother to this lost boy.</p>
<p>She becomes a &#8220;mother&#8221;, in an almost literal sense, later on. It&#8217;s a mysterious pregnancy, one Lorna is convinced of, however one the doctors say isn&#8217;t true. The Nativity scene may spring to mind, and such biblical references are not foreign to the Dardennes (&#8220;The Son&#8221;, about forgiveness, heavily involved carpentry).</p>
<p>This film feels the least natural of all of the brother&#8217;s works. It&#8217;s more heavy on plot, and the camera doesn&#8217;t seem quite as relentlessly focused on the protagonist. For that reason, it&#8217;s not as hypnotic as their previous works, but it still boasts the performances, writing, and complex thematic ideas that their films have become known for. It&#8217;s not their best, but this is a good starting point for anybody unfamiliar with the directors.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">A imigração ilegal nos países europeus vem se tornando pauta de muitos filmes ultimamente. Em um curto período me lembro de ter ido ao cinema e visto dois fimes com tema semelhante: <strong>Import/Export </strong>e <strong>Bem-Vindo</strong>. <a href="http://moviefordummies.wordpress.com/2009/05/12/import-export-importexport-2007/" target="_blank">O primeiro</a> mostra a decadência do leste europeu através de uma mulher que sai da Ucrânia em busca de melhores condições de vida na Áustria. O segundo, por sua vez, nos apresenta um garoto do Curdistão que a todo custo tenta ir da França à Inglaterra para encontrar sua namorada. <strong>O Silêncio de Lorna </strong>tem muitas coisas em comum com essas duas obras, <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJlo3U9zzVo" target="_blank">mas com um enredo completamente distinto</a>.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Lorna é uma jovem albanesa insatisfeita com o modo de vida no seu país. Seu sonho é abrir uma lanchonete junto com o namorado Sokol. Para isso, arranja um esquema com o criminoso Fabio para casar com Claudy Moreau &#8211; um belga viciado em drogas. De acordo com as leis na Bélgica (e na maioria dos países), um estrangeiro que casa com um nativo tem o direito de adquirir dupla nacionalidade. Nesse caso, ela passaria a morar na Bélgica em situação legal, não mais como uma imigrante irregular. No vai-e-vem da trama, Lorna ainda teria que se casar (mais uma vez) com um russo rico, que pagaria uma alta quantia de dinheiro a ela &#8211; suficiente para se estabilizar no novo país. Junte a isso a necessidade de se livrar do ex-marido (o drogado)&#8230; entenda o &#8217;se livrar&#8217; por matar mesmo. Pois é! Para adiantar o processo de divórcio, Claudy teria que morrer.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">O tom dramático do longa se estabelece logo de cara. Lorna mora com Claudy e se vê obrigada a cuidar dele todos os dias. No entanto, mesmo enfrentando muitos problemas desse tipo, ela passa a se identificar com o rapaz - o que obviavente trará consequências catastróficas. Todo o drama da personagem é bem construído e aprofundado, mas, ao meu ver, faltaram algumas coisinhas. Quando li a sinopse antes de assistir ao filme pensei: <em>&#8220;nossa, como esse tanto de informação vai caber em pouco mais de 1h30?&#8221;</em>&#8230; os diretores Jean-Pierre Dardenne e Luc Dardenne construíram um ótimo clima, auxiliados por uma linda fotografia, mas foram infelizes nesse aspecto&#8230; falta gancho para o espectador! Em determinado ponto a história fica um pouco confusa, e quem está assistindo demora mais do que deveria para se situar.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Ainda que existam pontos negativos como esse, o argumento é sólido o suficiente para se sustentar sozinho. A trama demora para engrenar, pois é exposta lentamente ao espectador. É a partir dos 25/30 minutos que passamos a entender o que realmente está acontecendo. Longe disso ser um defeito, vale dizer, já que é interessante ver todo o problema sendo montado com minúcia.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Outra coisa que merece certo destaque é o final. Posso dizer que me senti indiferente quanto a ele e até agora tenho dúvidas se gostei. Aquela coisa de final interpretativo é interessante, mas achei que nesse filme faltou aquele quê a mais&#8230; Lorna ficou maluca e está tendo devaneios ou tudo aquilo realmente é real? Esse tipo de resposta só teremos quando o dvd chegar às lojas recheado de <em>extras </em>(pelo menos assim espero).</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>O Silêncio de Lorna </strong>é uma obra interessante e bem feita. Mesmo pecando em alguns aspectos jamais deixa de ser um drama profundo e perturbador. Ora sentimos raiva da personagem &#8211; brilhantemente interpretada pela novata Arta Dobroshi -, ora entendemos todas as suas angústias, atitudes e conflitos. O filme vale também por ser mais um retrato inteligente sobre o atual panôrama dos imigrantes ilegais no <em>velho continente</em>, que precisam se submeter a coisas terríveis, a maus tratos e a trabalhos sub-humanos só para continuar vivendo.</p>

<p>In extreme circumstances, what choices should one make?  How can you survive in desperate times and still keep some sort of morality?  These are central, universal questions that drive the narrative in the new film, <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1186369/">Lorna’s Silence</a>, by Belgian brother auteurs, <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0201094/">Jean-Pierre</a> and <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0201095/">Luc Dardenne</a>.</p>
<p>This is not unfamiliar territory for the Dardennes, as their last four films have all dealt with these central questions, delving into how characters at the lower rungs of society make the right decision, even in the face of almost insurmountable challenges dealing with crime, poverty, and illegal immigration.  Lorna’s Silence specifically deals with immigration, just like their earlier film, <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0117398/">La Promesse</a>.  This film, however, is set not in their hometown, Seraing, like four previous films, but in the bigger city of Liege.  And instead of a young male protagonist, the story revolves around a female protagonist, calling back their film, <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0200071/">Rosetta</a>. Aside from those key references, the film is entirely original.</p>
<p>Lorna (<a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1671184/">Arta Dobroshi</a>) a twenty-something illegal Albanian immigrant, has entered a paper marriage with a haggard junkie, Claudy Moreau (<a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0753737/">Jeremie Renier</a>, a thrice collaborator with the brothers) in order to gain citizenship and live out her dreams of owning a snack shop with her boyfriend, Sokol (<a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1456114/">Alban Ukai</a>).  Claudy is more of an inconvenience than anything else to Lorna, with his loud music, constant annoyance, and empty promises to finally quit drugs and go clean.  Unexpectedly though, Lorna is thrown into a moral tailspin, when Fabio (<a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0740090/">Fabrizio Rongione</a>), the local mobster who secured her trip and citizenship, wants to murder Claudy so that Lorna can enter a paper marriage with a new illegal immigrant, a Russian cigarette smuggler, Andrei (<a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0945063/">Anton Yakovlev</a>).  Then she must desperately decide how to save Claudy and how to survive long enough to live out her dream.</p>

<p>Much like their former critically-acclaimed, award-winning features, this film was done in the same handheld cinema verite style that has become rather popular in recent years, yet this film contains more static and framed shots.  Although their propensity towards handheld has more to do with their long history in nonfiction filmmaking, then following a trend or gimmick that manufactures something that is inherently inauthentic.  Much like their former work, rather than provide distraction, the Dardennes draw the viewer in so well dramatically, that you start to ignore the artifice and almost believe this is reality.  This along with razor-sharp performances (especially by Dobroshi and Renier) that engage the viewer, this interesting, tumultuous tale takes you places dramatically you would not expect even with knowledge of the brothers’ former films.</p>

<p>Now more than ever, I think it is important to engage the Dardennes’ work.  In our time of global economic crisis, their complex morality tales about the other side of our worldwide marketplace should be visited and revisited as we figure out where to go from here.  Like the masters they are, Jean-Pierre and Luc throw the audience in a situation.  A situation that is usually based on actual events, like this film here, and without judging and pigeonholing, they show flesh and blood humans act and the consequences of those actions, both positive and negative.  In their own odd ways these films are also redemption stories, not of the hand-fisted or brow-beating variety, but of genuine people trying to find some kind of transcendence in harsh life on the edges of society.</p>
<p>Sadly, the Dardennes seemed to stack the deck of conflict in the final act to a point that it was almost too much to believe.  This was brief, however, and did setup one of the most stirring, beautiful, and uncertain conclusions they have ever produced.  Even with some plot issues, the film is highly deserving of Best Screenplay in last year’s Cannes Film Festival, but the film is mid-level in their canon and still does not surpass their former and best executed work, <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0456396/">L’Enfant</a>.  Yet do not be deceived, The Dardenne brothers have made one of the most challenging, engrossing, and rewarding films of the year so far.  This is definitely amongst the best this year has to offer.</p>

Ülimalt realistlik, muusikata ja napi dialoogiga &#8220;Laps&#8221; on lugu Soniast ja Brunost (Jérémie Renier, mänginud mitmes Dardenne&#8217;ide filmis), kes ei paista silma järgi vanemad kui 18-19. Nad on just saanud lapse, kelle kasvatamiseks nad päris kindlasti valmis pole &#8211; Sonia elab abirahast ja Bruno pisivargustest. Brunol on raskusi lapse omaksvõtmisega, nii nagu tal on raskusi suureks kasvamisega. Siis torkab talle pähe kuldne idee laps maha müüa. Sonia küsimuse peale, kus laps on, vastab ta: &#8220;Müüsin maha. Aga ära muretse, me võime ju uue teha.&#8221; Film võitis 2005. a Cannes&#8217;is Kuldse palmioksa, tõenäoliselt ühiskonna &#8220;valupunktide&#8221; efektse kujutamise eest. Minu jaoks jäi &#8220;Laps&#8221; kahjuks üsnagi magedaks looks kahest ohmust, kellele reaalsus kogemata kohale jõuab. Realism ta ju oli, aga valus, tabav ja mõtlemapanev mitte. Samas ma ei kahtle, et sellise kino austajaid leidub piisavalt. Teine küsimus on see, kas nad elavad just siin, ülimalt realistlikus ja kohati postsovietlikus Eestis.</p>

Den sistnämnde i översättning av just Teratologen. </p>

<p style="font:14px Courier;margin:0;">De ger ut fin modernp pulp som Poppy Z Brites &#8220;Utsökta lik&#8221; och nytgåvor av tidsdokument som RAFs texter om stadsgerilla. Vågar inte tänka på vilket <a href="http://www.expressen.se/1.180070">liv</a> det skulle bli om Åsa Lindeborg hittade något <a href="http://www.aftonbladet.se/kultur/bokrecensioner/article3404767.ab">intressant</a> i den. </p>

Ofta om samhällets utstötta som småtjuvar, missbrukare och papperslösa immigranter, nästan alltid med Jérémie Renier i huvudrollen och alltid väldigt bra. Kolla exempelvis in &#8220;Barnet&#8221; eller &#8220;Lornas tystnad&#8221;. </p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>E dando continuidade ao &#8220;esquenta&#8221; para o Festival de Cannes, que começa quarta que vem, ficamos sabendo que os irmãos Jean-Pierre e Luc Dardenne vão ministrar uma aula de cinema na 62ª edição do Festival.</p>
<p>A dupla já ganhou duas Palmas de Ouro, uma por &#8220;Rosetta&#8221; (1999) e outra por &#8220;A criança&#8221; (2005). </p>
<p>Os cineastas belgas vão explicar as técnicas que usam para desbravar as fronteiras do realismo psicológico para uma plateia de estudantes, críticos e cineastas. A aula acontece no dia 19. </p>
<p>Nos últimos anos, a chamada Masterclass da mostra francesa contou com a participação dos cineastas do calibre de Sydney Pollack, Martin Scorsese e Quentin Tarantino. Os Dardenne receberam o prêmio de melhor roteiro em Cannes no ano de 2008 por &#8220;O silêncio de Lorna&#8221;.</p>

<p>Plot:<br />
Lorna (Arta Dorbroshi) is an Albanian immigrant in Belgium. To get the Belgian nationality, she married junkie Claudy (Jérémie Renier), a coup arranged by Fabio (<a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0740090/" target="_blank">Fabrizio Rongione</a>), a small time criminal on the rise. After she&#8217;s got her nationality, Fabio plans to kill Claudy so that Lorna can marry a rich Russian also in search of the Belgian nationality. And then, things get really fucked up.</p>
<p>Le silence de Lorna is not a feel good movie. [Ha! That might well be the understatement of the year.] But it&#8217;s one that&#8217;s incredibly well acted, well written and well done in general. It&#8217;s just so very depressing&#8230;</p>

<p>Really, everything I can say about this movie is that it was excellent. All of the acting was absolutely amazing, but especially Arta Dobroshi and Jérémie Renier. The relationship between Lorna and Claudy was fascinating. You were revolted by both of them in turns and then you wanted to hug them and make it all better.</p>
<p>The Dardenne&#8217;s directing was also bang-on. I especially liked the abruptness of Claudy&#8217;s death. In one scene you see him drive off on his newly bought bike and in the next, Lorna is packing his things and you don&#8217;t really know what&#8217;s going on until she&#8217;s at the morgue. The way these scenes were cut together gave the whole thing a real vibe &#8211; death doesn&#8217;t always come announced, it isn&#8217;t always foreshadowed and it sometimes comes in the worst possible moments. But most of all, usually it&#8217;s abrupt.</p>

<p>The way Lorna is slowly broken until insanity throughout the movie was heartbreaking. The ending is one of the worst [emotionally, not qualitatively] I have ever seen. I practically fled from the cinema to go and have a drink.</p>
<p>So, I&#8217;d recommend watching it &#8211; but only if you have a friend along for comfort.</p>

<p>Ricetta &#8220;Cotto e mangiato&#8221;-style per far diventare cittadino europeo chiunque.</p>
<p>Prendi un poveraccio, un tossico o semplicemente uno che è alla canna del gas (Claudy) e lo paghi per sposare una donna albanese (Lorna) che cerca un modo rapido per avere soldi per aprire un bar, possedere una casa con giardino e ottenere un mutuo per pagarli.</p>
<p>Ma i soldi per Lorna e Claudy sono vincolati al fatto che dopo un anno debbano divorziare in modo che Lorna possa sposare, come neo-cittadina belga, un ricco russo e finanziatore di tutta l&#8217;operazione. Il tutto è orchestrato da Fabio, un tassista che ha numerose entrate non dichiarate al fisco che ha bisogno di Lorna perché lui ha il sesso sbagliato per questa transazione finanziaria.</p>
<p>Tutto fila liscio finché Lorna si affeziona a Claudy e cerca di farlo disintossicare dalle droghe, soprattutto il buscopan <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif' alt=':P' class='wp-smiley' /> , mentre Fabio vorrebbe aumentare il proprio guadagno uccidendo il tossico e fregandosi la sua ricompensa.</p>

<td colspan="2">I fratelli Dardenne hanno prodotto, diretto e scritto <em>Il matrimonio di Lorna</em> e alcuni altri film.<br />
Uno l&#8217;avevo visto nel 2006, a Milano con alcuni compagni del master. Il titolo originale del film è <em>Le Couperet</em>, quello italiano è <em>Il cacciatore di teste</em> e in un post che ho ritrovato ora (perché allora non avevo ancora cominciato a stressarvi l&#8217;anima con questi noiosi e lunghissimi articoli dei film visti) avevo scritto:</p>
<blockquote><p><em>Ringrazio Massimo che mesi fa mi ha quasi costretto a vedere al cinema un film franco-spagnolo-belga intitolato “Le Couperet” e tradotto come “Cacciatori di teste” in italiano. Un film che non mi è dispiaciuto e mi ha dato molte idee strane. Dovrebbero vietarli certi film, perché alla fine tifi per l’assassino.</em></p></blockquote>
<p>Facendo un confronto tra questi due film, posso presumere che al centro dei lavori dei fratelli Dardenne ci sia la dimostrazione che <em>Fatta la legge trovato l&#8217;inganno</em> non è solo un proverbio ma un modo di vivere di alcune persone senza scrupoli, alla cui presenza su questo pianeta ci stiamo abituando tutti <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif' alt=':(' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>

<p style="text-align:left;">Raramente un film riesce a fondere così bene argomenti di attualità, sentimenti e moralità con quello che dovrebbe essere prerogativa di ogni essere umano: la voglia di vivere. Lorna, la protagonista del capolavoro dei fratelli <em>Dardenne</em>, è una giovane albanese che per ottenere la cittadinanza belga si è fidata di un tassista di origini italiane che le ha combinato un matrimonio con un giovane belga tossicodipendente, Claudy. Quello che Claudy non sa è che l&#8217;astuto tassista sta tramando alle sue spalle per farlo uccidere,simulando un overdose, ai fini di far risposare Lorna con un russo, anch&#8217;egli in cerca di cittadinanza belga. E&#8217; proprio dal piano di Fabio,il tassista, che non è condiviso in pieno da Lorna che inizia la scoperta dei sentimenti della giovane albanese. Attraverso delle riprese a mano , che sempre hanno contraddistinto il cinema dei due fratelli registi francesi ma che in questo film sono saggiamente intervallate con riprese più larghe che includono più personaggi, seguiamo gli stati d&#8217;animo della protagonista quasi come a inseguirla in maniera costante come in una sua personale via Crucis di dolore.  E al centro di tutti questi scambi è costantemente presente il potere rappresentativo che in quel mondo di malavita rappresentano i soldi. Quasi come se i soldi potessero pagare non solo la vita ma anche i sentimenti delle persone, ci vengono sempre sbattuti in questo film davanti gli occhi e ne diventano l&#8217;efficace contrasto ai sentimenti di Lorna, che ne diventa invece pian piano sempre meno succube. Strepitoso è il realismo che spicca nella manifestazione dei conflitti interiori di Lorna e dei suoi sensi di colpa nei confronti della morte di Claudy. Come  superba è l&#8217;interpretazione della giovane attrice <em>Arta Dobroshi </em>nel mostrare la sua privatissima guerra &#8220;fredda&#8221; contro tutti e nella difesa di quell&#8217; istante d&#8217;amore che solo Claudy ha saputo donarle. E allora, quasi come una sua redenzione personale, nell&#8217;iniziale insensibilità e avidità di Lorna si troverà sempre di più la speranza del cambiamento che la condurrà ad un finale concreto ma questa volta spinto da un desiderio di umanità. Un percorso, quello di Lorna , quasi spirituale (anche se laico) che la porterà alla pace con se stessa , all&#8217;assoluzione personale delle sue colpe e alla nascita di un seme di speranza nella sua vita. Vince la migliore sceneggiatura a Cannes perchè oltre che alla ben nota perfetta regia questo film gode di ottimi dialoghi e di una storia ben dosata in ogni sua sfaccettatura. </p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Antes de nada quiero advertir que una de las que, para mí, son las mejores revistas de cine, otorgó una puntuación de cuatro sobre cinco a este film, y en mi opinión no se equivocaba en absoluto, hablo de la revista <a title="web fotogramas" href="http://www.fotogramas.es/" target="_blank">Fotogramas</a>. Sin en otras muchas películas he valorado ese punto de fantasía que algunos directores les gusta poner, en esta precisamente valoro todo lo contrario, la desnudez con la que los directores, Jean-Pierre Dardenne , Luc Dardenne.</p>

Con esto, me refiero a que, dichos directores, han sabido mostrar la realidad de muchos chicos inmaduros, con inestabilidad en sus vidas y el problema de que se ven obligados a asumir algún tipo de responsabilidad.<br />
En <a title="web oficial" href="Antes de nada quiero advertir que una de las que, para mi, son las mejores revistas de cine, otorgó una puntuación de cuatro sobre cinco a esta pelicula, y en mi opinión no se equivocaban en absoluto. Sin en otras muchas peliculas he valorado ese punto de fantasia que algunos directores les gusta poner, en esta precisamente valoro todo lo contrario, la desnudez con la que los directores, Jean-Pierre Dardenne , Luc Dardenne. " target="_blank">“L´Enfant” </a>los protagonistas son Bruno que tiene 20 años y Sonia 18, viven en un suburbio de una ciudad francesa, gracias al subsidio de ella y los robos que el comete con sus amigos. Pese a la dureza historia de amor que viven, es tierno ver como se quieren, es una historia nada utópica, sino todo lo contrario, una historia que aconsejo ver y más teniendo en cuenta la corta duración de la película (95min). La película se complica cuando Sonia se queda embarazada y empiezan a tener dudas sobre si Bruno sabrá asumir este nuevo tipo de vida al que tendrán que acostumbrarse o por el contrario no será el buen padre que Sonia quiere que sea.</p>

<p>Chego em casa e vejo que não tenho o dvd de <em>O Filho</em>, e nem de <em>A Criança</em>. Vou atrás disso! lembro também que nunca vi <em>Rosetta</em>, primeira das Palma(s) de Ouro que os irmãos Dardenne levaram em <em>Cannes</em> (a outra foi com A Criança). Tô em falta com os belgas!</p>

<p>Lorna (Arta Dobroshi) is a young Albanian immigrant living in Liege. Thanks to her marriage to heroin addict Claudy (<span>Jérémie Renier)</span>, she will soon qualify for Belgian nationality. However, as quickly becomes apparent, there is little that is conventional about her marriage. Indeed, Claudy seems more like the slovenly, self-absorbed, neurotic flatmate-from-hell than a husband. Moreover, as is quickly established, this is the first part of a business arrangement that will see Lorna earn enough money to shortly open a small business of her own with her boyfriend Fabio (<span>Fabrizio Rongione)</span>, a fellow immigrant and menial labourer. However, those best laid plans begin to unravel when Claudy suddenly appears determined to go clean, which represents the first of several dramatic developments that Lorna&#8217;s life is about become affected by.</p>
<p>The film is most notable for its two central performances. Dobroshi hails from Kosovo and barely had any French when offered the role of Lorna. A two-week intensive immersion in the language was followed by six weeks of rehersals. The result was a highly credible peformance as the conflicted young woman put in the middle of an increasingly complicated and dangerous situation. Equally, Renier&#8217;s portrayal of the intense, trusting, and childlike junkie Claudy is fantastic at represening some of the worst and best traits in human behaviour. Together, they share a memorable on-screen moment that proves to be a rare drop of precious humanity in a cesspit of cold and calcuating callousness.<!--more--></p>

<p><em>The Silence of Lorna </em>is the latest from Belgian brothers and filmmakers Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne. In keeping with their other work, this film offers a terribly bleak outlook on human nature. Here they present a world where people&#8217;s lives are valued for their utility, where relationships have less permanency to them than a chalk mark in the rain, and where morality is like a lone rose growing in a wasteland. Furthermore, as Lorna begins to truly appreciate the consequences of her actions, the Dardenne brothers have an unexpected psychological reaction in mind for her.</p>
<p>While this is not a flawless film by any means, <em>The Silence of Lorna </em>does envoke a sense of grim fascination in the viewer with respect to these characters and what shall become of them. Indeed, the ending is a curious one with connotations that seem both Biblical and fairy tale-like in nature. To put this another way, it represents an unconventional form of escapism from a cruel, heartless, and mercenary world.</p>

<p>For most of this film the camera is up close behind the back of Olivier Gourmet&#8217;s neck. We&#8217;re watching his watching. Where his head goes our head goes.</p>
<p>And his head goes &#8211; everywhere with his eyes; looking to the left, to the right, looking askance, turning and looking behind, looking around. Everywhere those speccy eyes are going onto everything. As if the guy doesn&#8217;t trust anything or anybody, is suspicious of the next thing that might happen. In case it&#8217;s something dreadful.</p>
<p>Like your son being murdered.</p>
<p>And the kid that murdered your son happens to turn up to train to be a carpenter &#8211; and you&#8217;re his carpentry instructor. What you gonna do &#8211; kill him?</p>
<p>Olivier doesn&#8217;t know. &#8220;<strong>Nobody would do this, why you</strong>? says his ex wife. &#8220;<strong>I don&#8217;t know</strong>&#8221; he says.</p>
<p>And he&#8217;s in that state of &#8220;don&#8217;t know&#8221; for the whole film. But he can&#8217;t help but want to know something, want to find out why and want to find remorse in the kid (there isn&#8217;t any)</p>
<p>What he does find is a kind of forgiveness. Eventually.</p>
<p>You keep thinking &#8211; especially the way he&#8217;s looking &#8211; that he could kill the kid. There&#8217;s numerous times alone with the boy for him to strangle, or knife, or bonk him on the head with his hammer; &#8220;do him&#8221;, enact his own retribution, give way to the feeling inside that troubles with something like rage, or hatred &#8211; or maybe it&#8217;s something unfathomable; that impulse within that turns away from doing the animal instinct thing &#8211; avenging, revenging, killing.</p>
<p>I don&#8217;t know if it is forgiveness exactly. Oliviers &#8220;don&#8217;t know&#8221; becomes our/mine don&#8217;t know. We aren&#8217;t sure what Olivier thinks or feels cus he never tells us. He probably can&#8217;t tell cus he hasn&#8217;t got the language to express or fathom what he feels.</p>
<p>There&#8217;s no telling in this film, no explaining. I read a review that made a distinction between showing and seeing, with the inference that the film doesn&#8217;t &#8220;show&#8221; &#8211; in symbols or metaphors &#8211; but only &#8220;sees&#8221;.  And there is a lot of deliberate seeing going on; looking &#8220;at&#8221; as if blindly wanting to be looking &#8220;into&#8221;. But the more look you do can&#8217;t break you in; you keep hitting up against a plank of incomprehension.</p>
<p>Olivier Gourmet is remarkable in the lead role.</p>
<p>Even weeks later after seeing this I&#8217;m still perched behind his right ear, watching with seething stoicism from out of his thickly blankly uncomprehending glasses.</p>
