La carrera de Luca Toni ha sido cuanto menos peculiar. Vagabundeó por la Serie C y la Serie B con mucha más pena que gloria hasta que, ya con 27 años y tras haber pensando incluso en la retirada, consiguió anotar 30 goles con el Palermo para devolver al equipo a la primera división italiana. Seguiría demostrando que esa explosión tardía no fue flor de un día marcando 20 goles en la siguiente temporada, ya en la Serie A. Posteriormente ficharía por la Fiorentina, equipo en el que conseguiría la bota de oro gracias con 31 goles en un campeonato tan defensivo como el Calcio.

Esto le haría ganarse fama internacional y tras otra temporada en el conjunto “Viola”, se marcharía al Bayern de Munich. Tras un primer año realmente espectacular, la estrella de Toni comenzaría a apagarse tan rápido como se encendió. Las lesiones y un nivel de juego pobre le relegarían a un segundo plano en un Bayern decepcionante.

La llegada de Louis Van Gaal ha terminado por crispar los nervios de un inestable Luca Toni, que hasta ahora solo había dado muestras de su caracter dentro del terreno de juego. Declaraciones incendiarias y críticas a su entrenador han acabado por deteriorar de tal punto su relación con el club de Baviera que ya se está pensando en su salida en el mercado de invierno.

Sus problemas de lesiones, su carácter fuerte, su edad y su manera de jugar, únicamente basada en su altura, parecen intuir que no va a ser nada fácil de vender. La suerte que ha acompañado a Luca Toni durante toda su carrera parece haberse acabado.

AS Roma berada di urutan terdepan namun terbentur dengan gaji yang diinginkan Toni, Napoli mengkuti di belakangnya, lalu AC Milan siap memberi Klaas-Jan Huntelaar beserta tambahan uang.

Klub-klub asal Spanyol pun ikut meminati Toni seperti, Valencia dan Villarreal.

Jadi mungkin saja Bayern Muenchen akan menjualnya dan mengatakan,”Auf Wiedersehen Toni.”

Auch nachdem 12. Spieltag steht Bayer Leverkusen weiterhin an der Spitze der Tabelle. Dank eines 4:0 Sieges gegen Fankfurt am Freitag konnte Bayer den Punkterückstand weiter ausbauen.

Schon in der 2. Minuten traf Stefan Kießling zum 1:0 (Damit führt er mit 8 Treffern die Torjägeriste an)

“Das erste Tor hat uns in die Karten gespielt, danach lief es”, sagte Simon Rofles, der verletzungsbedingt ausfiel, in einem Interview.
Und er hatte Recht. Neun

Minuten später stand es 3:0. Für Frankfurt war das Spiel gelaufen, die Verantwortlichen können sich nicht erklären was falsch gelaufen ist.

Doch die Leverkusenere setzten nocht einen drauf. Lars Bender schoss vier Minuten vor Schluss noch ein Tor und somit stand es 4:0 für die umjubelten Gastgeber.

Bei Bayern sieht es Momentan alles andere als rosig aus. Inder Champions-League so gut wie raus und gegen Schalke erspielte der vielfache deutsche Meister nur ein unentschieden.

Ein Sorgenkind stellt auch weiterhin Luca Toni dar. Der Italiener durfte zwar von Beginn an gegen Schalke ran, doch als er in der Halbzeit ausgwechselt wurde verließ er sauer das Stadion.

Summe von 25.000€ zahlen durfte. “Man darf Spieler nicht einfach kaufen weil, sie gut sind”, war nur eine Aussage des Bayern-Stars. „Wenn man unsere Mannschaft mit anderen Topteams aus der Champions League vergleicht, dann sind diese eben auf sieben, acht Positionen strategisch erstklassig besetzt – und das fehlt uns. Wenn man sich mit Barcelona, mit Chelsea, mit Manchester United messen will – dann braucht man als FC Bayern eine Spielphilosophie. Das muss auch das Ziel des Vereins sein“

Mittlerweile scheinen sich die Wogen zwischen Lahm und Vorstand geglättet zu haben. Bayern-Boss Karl-Heinz Rummenigge hält weiterhin große Stücke auf den Nationalspieler und spricht sogar davon das Lahm irgendwann Kapitän der Bayern Mannschaft wird.

War die Kritik also gar nicht so schädlich wie angenommen? Wendet sich jetzt alles zum Guten?

Zu wünschen wäre es den Bayern alle mal. Nach 12 Spieltagen stehen sie in der Tabelle gerade mal auf Platz 8 ganze sechs Punkte hinter Leverkusen gegen die sie am kommenden Wochenende spielen müssen.

Unser Verein zerfleischt sich langsam selbst. Das und die Tatsache das wir in der Bundesliga nur noch Mittelmaß sind ist die traurige Erkentniss nach dem 12. Spieltag.

Die Konkurrenz hat zum größten Teil mal wieder Federn gelassen (Bremen vs. Dortmund 1:1 und Hannover vs. HSV 2:2), doch wir sind erneut nicht in der Lage das ausnutzen zu können. Nach dem 1:1 Unentschieden gegen Schalke sind es 6 Punkte Rückstand auf Spitzenreiter Bayer Leverkusen. In zwei Wochen nach der Länderspielpause haben wir die Chance das ganze ein wenig zu korregieren mit einem Sieg zuhause gegen Leverkusen. Aber ganz ehrlich, in der Momentanen Verfassung könnte das Spiel ein Debakel für uns werden.

Gegen Schalke war es das gleiche wie seit Wochen. Es ist einfach ermüdent. Die Mannschaft spielt dominant und hat den Gegner über die meiste Zeit im Griff. Doch dank Unvermögen, Pech und mangelnder Chancenverwertung kommen wir nicht über ein Unentschieden hinaus. Bis auf die ersten zehn Minuten hatten wir Schalke absolut im Griff. Doch dann sind wir nicht in der Lage unsere Führung zu halten. Nein wir kassieren wieder einen blöden Ausgleich nach einem individuellen Fehler. Es ist zum kotzen. Und in der Folgezeigt kreieren wir einfach zu wenig Chancen. Der Ball läuft durchs Mitteld aber nach vorne geht null. Ich glaub unsere beiden Innenverteidiger hatten wieder mit am meisten Ballkontakte. Man kann sich eigentlich einen beliebigen Spielbericht der letzten Wochen [> siehe hier] aussuchen, immer durfte ich dort das gleiche schreiben. Dominant aber kein Mittel gegen den tief und kompakt stehenden Gegner gefunden bzw. die Chancen nicht genutzt und am Ende wichtige Punkte verspielt. ES IST ZUM KOTZEN!

Immerhin hat sich das Team anders präsentiert als zuletzt gegen Bordeaux oder Stuttgart. Es war wenigstens das Bemühen zu erkennen genau wie von mir vor dem Spiel gefordert [> siehe Vorbericht]. Aber ist das nicht das mindeste was man erwarten kann?

Überrascht war ich übrigens von der Maßnahme van Gaals, Holger Badstuber als linkenVerteidiger aufzustellen. Aber er hat seine Sache sehr ordentlich gemacht. Aber auch eine Bankrotterklärung für Pranjic und Braafheid. Badstuber hat besser gespielt als die beiden in all ihren bisherigen Saisonspielen.

Positiv auch seine starken Standards. Seine Ecken sind stark genauso wie seine Freistöße aus dem Halbfeld. So hat er die Führung durch van Buyten vorbereitet und auch weitere starke Freistöße geschossen. Andere hochbezahlte Spieler wie z.B. Schweinsteiger können seit Jahren keine Ecken und Freistöße schießen.

Eine andere wichtige Erkentniss ist das Lahm auf links wesentlich besser ist als auf rechts. Das sollte auch dem letzten aufgefallen sein nach diesem Spiel. Nach der Halbzeitpause wechselte der 26-Jährige nämlich auf die linke Seite und spielte dort anschließend zwei klassen besser als auf rechts.

Festzuhalten bleibt Wir sind nur noch Mittelmaß in der Bundesliga sowie international.

Ich bin zunehmend ratlos. Mittlerweile verliere ich den glauben daran das wir dieses Jahr noch Meister werden können. Wenn gegen Leverkusen kein Sieg gelingt wird es verdammt schwer.

Schon jetzt dürfen wir uns auf eine hitzige Jahreshauptversammlung am 27.11. freuen. Der Vorstand wird dort hoffentlich die Kritik der Fans um die Ohren gehauen bekommen.

Es ist einfach eine Katastrophe die Transferpolitik. Philipp Lahm hat das in dem Interview mit der “SZ” [> siehe hier] völlig richtig erkannt. Er hat 100% recht und wenn man sich die Meinung der Fans anhört stimmt ihm auch eine überwältigen Mehrheit zu. In vielen Umfragen auf den bekannten Sportportalen bekommt Lahm 90% und mehr Zustimmung. Er hat das Problem erkannt, nur zu seinem Verhängnis öffentlich vorgetragen. Das hat dann die neue Rekordgeldstrafe [> siehe hier] zur Folge. Allerdings wäre seine Kritik intern sicher nicht gehört worden. Oder hat er sie schon vorgetragen und es ist nichts passiert? Hat er sich nun zu diesem Schritt genötigt gefühlt? So wird jetzt die Diskussion öffentlich geführt….was Vor aber auch Nachteile hat. Allerdings muss man auch sehen das Lahm in diesem Interview ganz klar viele seine Mitspieler angegriffen hat was einfach nicht geht.

Auch Luca Toni muss mit einer Geldstrafe rechnen. Der Italiener hatte nach seiner Auswechslung zur Halbzeit das Stadion verlassen. Sowas geht mal überhaupt nicht. Er ist Spieler des FC Bayern und hat dann auch das Spiel anzuschauen. Damit dürfte es das für ihn hier gewesen sein. Van Gaal wird ihm im Winter sicher keine Steine in den Weg legen so wie ich ihn als Disziplinfanatiker kenne.

Es werden unruhige Wochen. Wir sind auf dem besten Weg den FC Hollywood wieder aufleben zu lassen und zerfleischen uns gerade selbst. Nach dem Leverkusen Spiel wird man wissen wo man steht. Und bei einer Niederlage wird es ungemütlich für alle Beteiligten – den Vorstand und den Trainer. Van Gaal wird dann mehr den je der Gegenwind um die Ohren wehen und der Vorstand muss sich der Kritik der Fans stellen. So hat das Lahm Interview auf jeden Fall etwas gutes – endlich werden Hoeneß und Co. die Fehler der Vergangenheit knallhart aufgezeigt. Noch nie hat ein Spieler mit Kritik an der Transferpolitik so recht gehabt.

Für Hoeneß wird es dabei sicher eine besonders bittere JHV werden. Wollte er sich doch ein Denkmal setzen und sich mit dem Verkauf der Anteile an Audi gebührend verabschieden. Doch jetzt steht er vor dem totalen Chaos. Mittleid hab ich nur bedingt. Die Herren im Vorstand sind seit Jahren abgehoben und leben in ihrer eigenen kleinen rot-weißen Welt. Das zeigt deutlich ihr Handeln Jahr für Jahr. Doch die Realität sieht anders aus….

The Champions League fixtures which were so exciting a fortnight ago were mostly dreary affairs this week, as each team played the same team as they had previously, except this time in the others’ house. We ended up with 3 draws and a couple of blowouts, assuring me that being without internet/cable access for the majority of the evening was not a total tragedy. I’ll write up most of them, except the really useless ones (I’m looking at you, APOEL v Porto). Here they are, in no particular order:

Look how happy he was to be back in Milan!

AC Milan 1-1 Real Madrid – Well, the fixture that was so explosive last week ended without the same sort of fireworks this time around. Instead of ludicrous goalkeeping errors and 40-yard screamers, tonight’s match was graced by a pair of (comparatively) cheaply-had goals and one goal which was bafflingly disallowed. Kaká’s build-up to Real Madrid’s 29th minute goal showed a flash of the genius he used to have at the San Siro (and has failed to produce thus far for Madrid), but Dida made the initial save and it was up to Karim Benzema to tap the rebound past the bumbling Brazilian. It didn’t take long what had been a rather flaccid Milan side up to that point to galvanize (and equalize), when Gianluca Zambrotta was struck by the elbow of a sliding Pepe in the area and awarded a penalty. On 35′, Ronaldinho gleefully buried from the spot. Alexandre Pato almost gave i Rossoneri the lead moments later, with his volley finding the back of the net, but the goal was ultimately disallowed because the youngster had committed a foul in scoring it (maybe the foul was scoring it?). In the end, it would finish all level at the San Siro, and all level in Group C; Milan and Madrid sit tied with 7 points just above Marseilles.

Marseille 6-1 FC Zurich – Normally I wouldn’t give half a shit about this game. Swiss teams, French teams, it’s all Greek to me. However, the epic nature of the scoreline forces me to give at least a bit of a shout-out to l’OM, for whom 6 different individuals made an appearance on the scoresheet (well, 5 Marseille players and 1 Zurich via OG). In fact, it was Silvan Aegerter’s own goal that opened the floodgates for the visitors on 3′ – Fabrice Abriel would make it 2-0 on 11′, but Alexandre Alphonse pulled one back for his side on the half-hour mark. After the half, Mamadou Niang, Hilton, Benoît Cheyrou and Brandao would all net for Les Phocéens, while the home side would be left less than satisfied with their solitary goal. Quite a blowout!

Bordeaux 2-0 Bayern München – Les Girondins are progressing to the knock-out stages. As for Bayern, well, we’ll have to see. In the first 30 or so minutes of tonight’s match at the Allianz-Arena, it seemed like it would be the home side who would take the lead. Bastian Schweinsteiger proved a great danger as a dead ball specialist, causing the visiting defense all sorts of problems and coming close to causing a goal more than once. Bayern also might have gone ahead from the spot -players appealed for a penalty on a perceived Michael Ciani handball in the area, but the referee saw nothing; what die Roten wanted to be a spot kick would instead be a corner. Ultimately, it would be the French side who would get ahead on 37′ thanks to star man Yoann Gourcuff, who headed home after shaking off Mark van Bommel. After the break, Luca Toni had about 80,000 chances (duffed ‘em all) and Arjen Robben came on to greatly improve Bayern’s play, but the German side simply could not find the back of the net. Late in the game, Bayern fans began to depart from the stadium en masse, and those who did stay until the end were treated to the sight of Marouane Chamakh skipping past Hans-Jörg Butt to ease the ball into an empty net. Back-to-back losses to the French side for Bayern see them fall to 3rd in Group A – I knew this was the Year of the Underdog, but did it have to be the Year of the French by extension?

Juventus 1-0 Maccabi Haifa – Juventus continue to stay true to their recent Champions League mantra – do as little as you have to and scrape by. I’m sure Ciro Ferrara’s side is still reeling at the manner in which they let Sunday’s fixture against Napoli slip away, but they once again managed to beat the Israeli side (this time in Haifa) by a margin of 1-0. Mauro Camoranesi’s magic touch in first-half stoppage time was enough for i Bianconeri to slip past their hosts, who are now officially out of the competition with a grand total of 0 points. Juventus spent much of the second half patiently building up attacks and then listlessly watching them break down, as though they were simply happy to kill the time. And they were. Another half-assed performance, another victory for Juve. Go figure.

Agüero-Drogba strike force?

Chelsea 2-2 Atletico Madrid – Over the past two weeks, Chelsea’s goal differential was +19. That’s 19 for and 0 against, in all competitions. That included a 4-0 drubbing of Atletico Madrid at Stamford Bridge which prompted me to wonder how Abel Resino was hanging on to his job. Two weeks later, Resino is out of a job, and Chelsea have finally been scored upon. One could make a case to have this match renamed Sergio Agüero 2-2 Didier Drogba, as each prolific striker bagged a brace for his side to account for all 4 goals of the match (this time split evenly between the teams). Los Colchoneros took a second-half lead on 66′ when Agüero, just recently subbed onto the pitch, met the end of a cross with a sharp volley that left Petr Cech helpless on his line. Didier Drogba would take his time, but eventually single-handedly turned the match around for the Blues with a pair of goals on 82′ and 88′ – the latter being a supreme individual effort in which the Ivorian beat several defenders and buried his own rebound. However, Agüero was not about to be outdone, and on 90′ launched a strike from 30 yards which leveled the match for his side. New Atleti manager Quique Sánchez Flores will no doubt be disappointed that his team gave up the lead, but thrilled that they salvaged the draw – nevertheless Atletico are now officially out of the competition, while Chelsea are officially moving on.

Manchester Utd 3-3 CSKA Moskow – Sir Alex Ferguson’s men sealed their passage into the knock out rounds as Luis Antonio Valencia once more played the last-ditch heroics card. CSKA took the lead on 25′ through Alan Dzagoev, but Michael Owen equalized just 4 minutes later. Nevertheless, CSKA were undaunted, and within the next 20 minutes of play took a commanding 3-1 lead through Milos Krasic (31′) and Vasiliy Berezutskiy (47′). Darren Fletcher was booked on a strange call, after he looked to be set loose on goal and was then taken down in the box. Instead of a spot kick, the Scotsman received a yellow card. Paul Scholes and the aforementioned Valencia would bring it equal for United with Scholes’ goal on 82′ and Valencia’s in stoppage time. Moscow player Deyvidas Semberas was sent off after a bit of a spat late into injury time, but the Muscovites were nevertheless able to hold United to a 3-3 draw. Not a bad result from the Russian side, though it won’t help their Champions League aspirations this year.

VfL Wolfsburg 3-0 Besitkas – Luckily for Deutschland, one German squad was able to easily overcome their opposition this evening. Wolves took over Istanbul as Armin Veh’s side ran rampart at Inönü, with Zvjezdan Misimovic, Christian Gentner and Edin Dzeko finding the back of the net for their side. It seems that the key to obtaining an ‘always difficult’ away win in Turkey is to strike hard, and to strike often – take notes, Fergie.

Also mit so einer starken Vorstellung hab ich nicht gerechnet. Ohne Probleme sind wir ganz souverän ins Viertelfinale des DFB-Pokal eingezogen.

Ok man muss auch erwähnen das die Eintracht und speziell Maik Franz einen rabenschwarzen Tag erwischt hatte, aber das war doch schon eine sehr gute Vorstellung von uns. Und das Spiel hätte auch durchaus höher als 4:0 (3:0) ausgehen können.

Bei der Aufstellung gab es wie schon im Vorbericht angedeutet [> siehe hier] keine großen Veränderungen im Vergleich zum Aufeinandertreffen beider Mannschaft vor vier Tagen in der Liga. Lediglich für Danijel Pranjic rutschte Edson Braafheid ins Team als linker Verteidiger. Arjen Robben nahm auf der Bank Platz und sollte dort dann auch die kompletten 90 Minuten verbringen. Angesichts des klaren Spielstands und des nie gefährdeten Siegs eine vernünftige Maßnahme den Holländer noch mal zu schonen.

Dem guten Spiel des FC Bayern tat das aber keinen Abbruch. Schon in den Anfangsminuten legte die van Gaal-Elf gut los und hatte durch van Buyten (9.) und Müller (13.) erste Torchancen.

In der 14. Minute dann die verdiente Führung durch Miroslav Klose als er einen Traumpass von van Bommel über Nikolov zum 1:0 ins Tor lupfte. Was anschließend folgte war eine der beste Leistungen unter van Gaal – mit gnädiger Mithilfe von Eintracht Frankfurt. In der 19. Minute setzte sich Müller an der Außenlinie stark gegen Franz durch und bediente in der Mitte den alleingelassenen Klose. Der hatte wiederrum keine Mühe den Ball aus zwölf Metern ins Tor zu versenken. Damit war das Spiel quasi schon gelaufen.

Zehn Minuten später war Franz erneut im Mittelpunkt des Geschehens. Sein Rückpass zu Nikolov wurde viel zu kurz, Klose ersprintete sich den Ball und legte dann uneigennützig frei vor dem Eintracht-Tor auf Müller. Der hatte natürlich keine Mühe den Ball zu versenken.

Von Frankfurt war nichts aber auch garnichts zu sehen. Die Bayern durften schalten und walten wie sie wollten. Etwas Gefahr für das Bayern-Tor gab es erst in den Schlussminuten als der Rekordmeister zwei Gänge zurückgeschalten hatte. Und dort dann auch mit gnädiger Mithilfe des FC Bayern als z.B. Butt sich im Strafraum verdribbelte (72.), Liberopoulos brachte den Ball aber nicht im Tor unter.

Zuvor war es freilich schon zum 4:0 gekommen. Wieder machte Franz eine schlechte Figur als Müller ihn erneut austanzte und eine sehr schöne Flanken in den Strafraum schlug. Dort köpfte Toni nahezu unbedrängt zum 4:0 (52.) ein. Solche Flanken ist man von unseren Spielern eigentlich garnichts gewohnt. Große Klasse!

Das ganze hatte Daniel van Buyten schon nicht mehr auf dem Platz erlebt. Der Belgier wurde zur Halbzeit ausgewechselt und Martin Demichelis durfte in Halbzeit zwei weitere wichtige Spielpraxis vor dem Ernstfall gegen Bordeaux (dort fehlt van Buyten gesperrt) sammeln.

Ugh… A good weekend for some, perhaps. As always, only the big games – ’cause no one gives a hoot how Sheffield Wednesday did (sorry, Sheffielders).

Liverpool 2-0 Manchester Utd – On friday night I sat in a pub with a friend of mine, who nursed his pint as he mourned his team’s downward spiral. He is, of course, a Liverpool fan. I told him not to worry – that they’d beat MUFC this weekend and they’d bounce back. I’m not sure exactly how much either of us believed what I was saying, but sure enough, the game rolled around and Liverpool came out on top at Anfield. The Scousers would survive a second minute scare when Wayne Rooney found the back of the net (only to be disallowed for offside) and would go ahead in the 65th minute thanks to a classy finish from Fernando Torres. Nemanja Vidic and Javier Mascherano would both be sent off in the dying minutes of the match and it would be the Frenchman David Ngog who would seal United’s fate in stopagge time, finding the net on 96′. So all you sad-eyed Scousers, rejoice! You’re back to winning – for now. And Rafa, Gillette and Hicks – you can breathe again too.

Chelsea 5-0 Blackburn – Rovers fans will not be rejoicing this weekend. Gaël Givet opened the scoring in Saturday’s match by deflecting Nicolas Anelka’s shot into the back of his own net on 20′. That would hold the Blues until the half, but on 48′ Didier Drogba won a spot kick for his side and Frank Lampard (despite a returning Joe Cole wanting it oh so badly) converted to double Chelsea’s lead. From that point on, the floodgates were opened: within the next 15 minutes Michael Essien buried another of his rare but famed long range efforts, Lampard bagged his brace, and Didier Drogba brought Chelsea’s tally to 5. Blackburn were completely overrun by the home side, who obviously wanted to show that last week’s defeat to Aston Villa was not a sign of futher weakness. Joe Cole also made a fantastic appearance, his first in the Premiership this year, running the visitors ragged and creating all sorts of chances for his side. In their last two fixtures the Blues have 9 goals for and 0 against. Not bad Carletto, not bad.

Arsenal 2-2 West Ham – Despite Arsene Wenger’s claim that the Gunners will pick up at least one trophy this year, his side were unable to pick up full points against cross-town rivals West Ham this weekend. First half goals from Robin van Persie and William Gallas looked like they might be enough to see the Gooners take full points, but late strikes from Carlton Cole and Italian substitute Alessandro Diamanti saw Gianfranco Zola’s side make a marvelous comeback – despite the sending off of Hammer midfielder Scott Parker. Seems like the trophies are still a long way away, Wenger.

Futbol:

Real Madrid 0-0 Sporting de Gijon - Sans-CR9 Madrid were unable to bounce back from their midweek loss to AC Milan and gain a positive result domestically this weekend. Los Merengues were held to a draw at El Molinón by the midtable side, who were kept afloat largely through the heroic efforts of their netminder, Juan Pablo. Kaká once again failed to impress in the white shirt, and Manuel Pellegrini’s side dropped points in La Liga for only the second time this season to fall three points short of Barcelona. Not the result Los Blancos were looking for – one can only imagine that just about everyone involved in that club is virtually counting down the days until their most expensive signing is fit again. But not I!

Villareal 2-1 Malaga – Unlike his current side, Manuel Pellegrini’s former squad were able to bounce back after a midweek European defeat to Rome’s other team and grab their first domestic win of the season. El Submarino Amarillo took the lead on 27′ thanks to the Brazilian Nilmar, only for Malaga’s Luque to equalize in the dying seconds of the first half. However, it wouldn’t take long after the break to restore that lead, as defender Capdevila found the back of the net on 54′ – his goal would be enough to see the home side grab all 3 points and that much-needed first victory. Finally, something (however little) to celebrate at El Madrigal.

Barcelona 6-1 Real Zaragoza – Unlike their arch-rivals, Barcelona showed that they weren’t too worried about their midweek loss to Rubin Kazan with a 6-goal thrashing of Real Zaragoza. Bullies. Seydou Keita bagged a treble, Zlatan Ibrahimovic bagged a brace and Lionel Messi bagged one of his own in a comfortable victory for the Catalan side. Jorge López pulled one back for his side on 77′, but it was little more than consolation as the Blaugrana ran rampant in the Camp Nou. I suppose the rest of us have now been warned…

Calcio:

AC Milan 2-1 Chievo Verona - In keeping with the theme of last-gasp comebacks and goal-scoring defenders, AC Milan were able to grab their second straight Serie A win after Alessandro Nesta, of all people, scored twice in the last 10 minutes of the match to earn his club all 3 points against the Flying Donkeys. Nesta’s heroic efforts cancelled out the 7th minute lead which Giampiero Pinzi had afforded his side and which had stood for the better part of the match. It seems that Leonardo’s men are finally finding their legs to stand on after a more-than-shaky start to the season this year – it’s about time, Rossoneri; it’s about time.

Inter 2-1 Catania - i Nerazzurri were able to reassert their position atop Serie A with a comfortable win over a struggling Sicilian side at the San Siro on Saturday (ooh, alliterative!). Catania fell behind early in the game as first-half goals from Sulley Muntari and Wesley Sneijder seemed to put the match well out of reach. However, their lead would be halved when keeper Julio Cesar erred and was forced to give up a penalty on 83′; which Giuseppe Mascara duly converted. Though Catania would pour forward after that in hopes of finding their equalizer, Inter afforded no clear-cut chances to their visitors and were able to secure victory, reasserting themselves atop the Serie A table after being usurped earlier that day. Speaking of which…

Sampdoria 4-1 Bologna – Call it the Antonio Cassano show. Call it the Daniele Mannini show. Call it whatever you want, but know that Sampdoria mean business. Sure, Bologna are relegation fodder and aren’t exactly the stiffest test Serie A have to offer, but then, neither are Catania. The visitors wasted no time, with Giampaolo Pazzini scoring on 7′, Daniele Mannini adding two of his own, and Reto Ziegler rounding it out to 4-0 within the next 30 minutes. Marco Di Vaio, easily Bologna’s best player, picked up a red card early on – however Pablo Osvaldo would find a late consolation goal for the home side. Though Fanantonio didn’t get his name on the scoresheet, he had a hand in two of his side’s goals and his creativity was, as ever, the driving force behind Sampdoria’s potent attack. After Saturday’s blowout, i Blucerchiati enjoyed a short time at the summit of Italian calcio, before Inter reasserted themselves later that afternoon. Another seriously impressive performance from the upstart side from Genova – the only question that remains is just how long they can keep this up.

That about sums it up.

Livorno 1-0 AS Roma - I have only one thing to say: this team needs to learn how to play without Totti. After last weekend’s loss to Milan and the midweek draw at Fulham, it appears that Claudio Ranieri’s honeymoon with AS Roma has come to an abrupt end. The team is now forced to face a harsh reality: Totti is out and they are expected to win anyways. Livorno are absolute bottom of the table and they just sacked their coach – today was Serse Cosmi’s debut as manager of the struggling side. For i Giallorossi to lose to this side at the Olimpico is nothing short of disastrous and the 1-goal lead afforded to the visitors by Francesco Tavano should have been easily overcome. Jérémy Menez and Mirko Vucinic proved ineffectual up front and while Daniele De Rossi looked solid while defending, perhaps it should be he who steps up to provide an offensive threat in the absence of Er Pupone. Of course, I’m being ridiculous – one of DDR’s problems is that he already tries to do too much at once. Stefano Guberti once again looked strong, bringing immediate life to the side after he replaced Menez at the half, and even Julio Baptista was thrown into the match in a last-ditch effort to quiet the boos resounding throughout the Olimpico. In the end, nothing worked and i Lupi are left to ponder another defeat to another weaker side. We need to snap out of this and fast.

Bari 2-0 Lazio – Misery loves company. Luckily for Romanisti, Laziali know little else. We weren’t the only team (not even the only team in Rome) to face defeat against a newly-promoted side this weekend – Lazio’s winless streak extends to 7 games as they were defeated handily by i Galletti, who put in a mighty performance at the Stadio San Nicola this evening. Bari went ahead on only 11′ thanks to Paulo Barreto, though they wouldn’t improve upon that lead until the second half, when Riccardo Meggiorini ran onto a ball from Vitaly Kutuzov and shot top corner on 69′. Lazio struggled throughout the manage and did not look capable of bringing themselves back into it – their fate was sealed with just 7 minutes to go when substitute Ousmane Dabo was sent off. Hey Romanisti, at least we’re not Lazio!

Juventus 1-0 Siena – Today Juve once again failed to live up to their billing of Scudetto contenders. With Livorno’s victory over you-know-who, Siena sit absolute rock-bottom in Serie A – yet it took La Vecchia Signora 72 minutes to break down the home side. It would be Brazilian hitman Amauri who finally found the back of the net for a side that doesn’t look nearly good enough to mount a proper Scudetto challenge. All in all, not impressive fare from Ciro Ferrara’s men, but I’m sure they’ll happily take home the 3 points.

Fußball:

Bayern München 2-1 Eintracht – Die Roten were spared embarrassment after a pair of late goals made up for the concession of a surprise lead. Though Louis van Gaal’s side were the more dangerous looking out of the gate, neither side were able to capitalize upon their first-half chances (ever-reliable Luca Toni struck woodwork yet again) and it would be the visiting side who would take the lead on 60′ at the Allianz-Arena when Alexander Meier cut behind Phillip Lahm and finished coolly. It would be substitutions that made the difference for Bayern, with the not-quite-fit Arjen Robben coming on to tap home the equalizer on 70′ and defenseman Daniel Van Buyten sealing victory on 88′ after being subbed on for the struggling Toni. The last-gasp victory should go a ways towards erasing midweek memories of Bordeaux and sees Bayern take 5th place in the Bundesliga.

Zwei Tage hab ich nun erfolglos mit mir gekämpft, eine anständige Analyse zum Spiel in Bordeaux auf´s Parkett zu zaubern. Aber was soll man schon groß sagen? Ein abgefucktes scheiß Spiel war das. Das komische ist, wenn Luca das Ding nicht an den Pfosten köpft und wir dort ein Unentschieden entführt hätten, wäre es sogar ein absolut geiles Spiel gewesen. Fußballherz was willst du mehr hätte man gesagt. Schließlich war da eine ganze Menge drin in der Partie, ein echter Ritt auf den Nerven.

Aber so war es einfach ein nervenaufreibender Abend, der uns nur weiteres Selbstbewusstsein kostet und uns in allen Belangen noch mehr unter Druck setzt als es eh schon der Fall ist. Das hätte es wahrlich nicht gebraucht in dieser ohnehin etwas angespannten Situation.

Ist aber auch dämlich gelaufen das Ganze, ein Wechselbad der Gefühle. Erst der furiose Beginn und das Gefühl, das wird heute unser Abend. Aber dann sah man recht schnell, hier läuft gar nix in unsere Richtung, das wird schwer heute. Die Mannschaft hat nach der Führung komplett das Fußballspielen eingestellt, auf jeden Ballgewinn folgte ein prompter Ballverlust. Und die Franzosen haben richtig Druck gemacht, wir haben sie gar nicht zu fassen bekommen. Und wenn, dann nur mit Fouls. Es war eine Frage der Zeit wann das schief geht. Lange musste man nicht drauf warten.

Und dann ist alles passiert, was einer Mannschaft den Zahn ziehen kann. Nach dem Ausgleich waren wir gerade dabei uns ein bißchen freizustrampeln, da fliegt Müller vom Platz. Kein Vorwurf an den Jungen. Genau das sind die Situationen, die jeder junge Spieler durchmacht. Auch völlig egal in welcher Klasse er spielt. Das war ein typischer Fall von Übermotivation nach einem Senkrechtstart. Jetzt kommt es darauf an, wie er damit umgeht. Vergräbt er sich in Selbstmitleid? Trauert er der Erfolgswelle hinterher, auf der er wochenlang geritten ist? Oder hat er eine “jetzt erst Recht” Einstellung, ohne zu verkrampfen?

Nach dem Platzverweis folgte dann noch ganz kurz vor der Pause der Rückstand, da bahnte sich eigentlich ein richtig bitterer Abend an. Aber in der zweiten Halbzeit haben wir uns nochmal richtig gewehrt. Man hat schon beim Betreten des Platzes gemerkt, die Jungs haben sich was vorgenommen. Am Ausgang der Katakomben warteten die Spieler, welche zuerst die Kabine verlassen hatten auf ihre Mitspieler, um geschlossen den Platz zu betreten. Das war schon ein Zeichen. In der Folge waren wir mit 10 Mann sogar die bessere Mannschaft. Alle hängten sich voll rein, Luca behauptete auf einmal die Bälle und wir waren echt drauf und dran, uns in dieses Spiel zurückzubeißen.

Bis zu dieser selten dämlichen Aktion von Butt, die zu dem ersten Elfmeter geführt hat. Klar hält er das Ei, aber das hat uns trotzdem wieder völlig den Rythmus genommen. Bordeaux fand wieder besser ins Spiel, auch wütend wegen der vergebenen Chance auf das 3:1. Wir wehrten uns nach Kräften, mussten aber mit zunehmender Spieldauer der Unterzahl Tribut zollen.

Und trotzdem haben wir die Riesenchance zum Ausgleich. Mit diesem einen Ball hätte Luca Toni aus einem Spiel der Nackenschläge das genaue Gegenteil machen können. Dieser eine verdammte Ball hätte die gesamte Geschichte des Spiels umgeschrieben. DAS wären sie gewesen, die Tugenden der Bayern. Der Mythos der Unbesiegbarkeit, die Kaltschnäuzigkeit, das mia san mia. Dieser verdammte abgefuckte scheiß Ball kann echt ungeahnte Auswirkungen auf die kommenden Wochen haben. Wir waren drauf und dran die alten Bayern zu werden, wir haben gekämpft und gebissen dafür in diesem Spiel. Und Luca macht ihn nicht. Er macht ihn einfach nicht. Aus zwei gottverdammten Metern.

Ab da war nicht nur das Spiel gelaufen, sondern diese Szene war wie ein Genickbruch, von dem es auch mittelfristig ganz schwer wird sich zu erholen. Die Erfahrung, dass man das Glück auch dann nicht erzwingen kann zur Zeit, wenn man alles dafür gibt, wird schwer auf den Schultern der Mannschaft lasten. Daraus resultiert fast immer Verkrampfung. Das einzige was schnell dagegen hilft, wäre mal ein Spiel, bei dem nicht alles gegen uns, sondern alles für uns läuft. Ein Spiel gegen einen großen Gegner am besten. Für Frankfurt zuhause sollte es auch in verkrampften Zustand reichen. Aber danach kommen Wochen der Wahrheit. Wir müssen aus der Opferrolle raus und wieder das Heft des Handelns in unsere Hände nehmen. Wir müssen uns mit allem was wir haben gegen diesen Trend wehren. Denn sonst wird aus einem Trend eine Spirale, aus der sich zu befreien es noch viel schwerer wird, als das was wir im Moment erleben.

After a horrific weekend it seems that the universe, or at least my universe, is back on track. Yesterday’s fixtures proved to be a series of pleasant surprises, as several of the Champions League’s underdogs secured impressive results – and today’s seem to be along the same lines. What a glorious year for the underdogs!

AC Milan 3-2 Real Madrid – Let me get this out of the way: I have been predicting this for a very long time. Ever since Los Blancos kicked off the 2009/10 season, I have argued that they had yet to come up against any teams which were truly capable of testing their mettle, and that when faced with a real opponent, they would falter. They fell to Sevilla domestically in Week 6 of La Liga, and now they have fallen to AC Milan in European competition. Keeper errors were the fashion of the day, with both Dida and Iker Casillas giving up easy goals (to Raul and Alexandre Pato, respectively). Raul’s tap in would give his side the lead on 18′, an advantage which would see Los Galacticos comfortably into the half. However, Andrea Pirlo would send the message that Milan were not yet out of it with a spectacular strike that beat Casillas from range and levelled for i Rossoneri (63′). Alexandre Pato’s aforementioned goal would come just 2 minutes later as the latter half of the 1-2 punch that saw Milan take a 2-1 lead. Madrid weren’t out of it yet, and Royston Drenthe would equalize for his side (off of a short corner kick from Raul) with a low ball that somehow made it through the crowd in front of the Milan net. However, it would be Alexandre Pato who would have the final word (it would have been Thiago Silva, but his headed goal on 86′ was wrongfully disallowed), meeting a chip from Clarence Seedorf with a calm volley in the 88th minute. With today’s victory at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, AC Milan rest atop the Group C table and will be in high spirits when they entertain Los Blancos at the San Siro in two weeks time. Hate to say I told you so!

Chelsea 4-0 Atletico Madrid – After losing to Aston Villa in Premiership play this weekend, Chelsea needed a win badly. After the skid that has been Atleti’s season so far this year, Los Colchoneros needed it worse. Chelsea almost took an early lead on 12′, but hitman Salomon Kalou was ruled for offside. Ultimately, it took 41 minutes for the scoring to open up, but when it did it was the Spaniards who were on the business end; Kalou hammering a ball from Ashley Cole into the roof of the Atletico net. After the break Kalou was back for more, bagging a brace in the 52nd minute with a header that put Chelsea up 2-0. Frank Lampard would break a 10-match goalless drought on 69′ to put the match simply out of the other Madrid side’s reach. In fact, the only Atletico player who would make an impression upon the match would be Louis Amaranto Perea, whose own goal in stoppage time sealed an absolute rout for the London side. This match affirms Chelsea position atop Group D, and also begs the question: exactly how much longer can Abel Resino hang on to his job?

Dutra, the Butcher of Haifa.

Juventus 1-0 Maccabi Haifa - Juve finally, finally grab their first victory in Champions League play this year. Israeli side Maccabi Haifa provided more resistance than most would expect in tonight’s fixture in Torino, but it was i Bianconeri who would eventually come out on top. Big centre-back Giorgio Chiellini would nod in a goal for Juventus on 48′ and, alongside the usual spectacular work between the uprights from Gigi Buffon, it was enough to see the Italians to all three points. Juve controlled the pace for much of the game, though Haifa proved dangerous on multiple occasions and challenged Juventus’ back line. Not helping the Haifa cause was substitute Tiago Dutra, who promptly injured Felipe Melo, forcing the Brazilian out of the match with a horrific challenge that went unnoticed by referee Faustino Benquerenca. Soon after, Dutra’s luck ran out and the midfielder was shown straight red for a studs-up tackle on Chiellini which forced the big defender off the pitch for several minutes. As an aside, it was interesting to see the attacking potential of a Juve side which started Sebastian Giovinco, Diego and David Trezeguet up front – they were perhaps unlucky not to improve their advantage this evening and it will be an attack force to watch moving forward.

Bordeaux 2-1 Bayern Münich – A strange fixture in which Michael Ciani scored for both Bayern and Bordeaux, Hamit Altintop added his own own-goal to the tally, and Bordeaux should have easily been up 4-1 but for a man named Butt. A game that started off a French nightmare (with Ciani’s own goal on 5′) soon turned into a German one. Ciani more than made up for his earlier error with a brilliant back-heeled goal off a corner kick which drew the French side level on 28′. Bayern would sink further into despair just moments later, as youngster Thomas Müller received his second yellow for a brash tackle on Matthieu Chalmé and was shown his marching orders. For Die Roten, things would only go from bad to worse before the end of the half, as Hamit Altintop’s attempted clearance was interrupted by Marc Planus and the Turkish International would go on the scoresheet for an own goal. After the half, Bayern were unable to wrest control of the game from the French side, though perhaps their best chance fell to the much-maligned Luca Toni, who promptly hit the post. In the 66th minute, Bayern keeper Hans-Jörg Butt was caught out of his net and forced to down Marouane Chamakh – a spot kick was awarded and disaster seemed nigh for the Germans. However, Butt was able to keep out Yoann Gourcuff’s effort, and therefore atoned for his own mistake. Tonight was not to be Bayern’s night; as the game wound down Daniel van Buyten became the second Roten to see red for hauling down Chamakh (again? poor guy!) in the box. The ensuing spot kick was taken by substitute Jussiê, who became the second Bordeaux player to be foiled by Butt. All in all, tonight’s match was a disaster for the Bavarians, who now sit at 3rd in Group A – but when you think about it, it could have been a lot worse.

Manchester Utd 1-0 CSKA Moscow – The only thing surprising about United’s wholly unsurprising victory over CSKA Moscow is how long it took for Sir Alex Ferguson’s men to get ahead. The Muscovites were able to hold off the Mancunians for 86 minutes, until Luis Antonio Valencia finally found the back of the net. A result that leaves me a little bitter, as I was surrounded by Red Devils’ fanboys as I ate my lunch today and dearly hoped that CSKA would be able to silence the prattling gobshites. Ah well though – the Mancs can’t lose them all!

Luca Toni è per la prima volta titolare nel Bayern dell’era Van Gaal, e la squadra bavarese, pur non convincendo, torna al successo in Bundesliga (2-1 in casa del Friburgo) dopo un “digiuno” di tre settimane. L’ex bomber di Palermo e Fiorentina, rimasto in campo fino al 71′ quando è stato sostituito da Mario Gomez, è stato protagonista di una buona prestazione, pur rimanendo a secco. Così il Bayern, in cui è rientrato anche Van Bommel dopo due mesi di stop per infortunio, si è imposto grazie ad un gol di Muller e ad un’autorete di Cha Doo-ri.A Brema ottima prova del Werder, che grazie alle reti di Pizarro e Mertesacker, supera l’Hoffenheim per 2-0. Lo Schalke 04 passa sul campo dello Stoccarda: ospiti in vantaggio con Rakitic, poi Cacau pareggia al 73′ ma tre minuti dopo Kuranyi riporta in vantaggio lo Schalke. Brutto KO dell’Hertha Berlino, che perde 3-0 a Norimberga. Ora la squadra della capitale è ultima in classifica. Due vittorie in altrettanti posticipi della 9/a giornata della Bundesliga. I campioni di Germania del Wolfsburg si sono imposti di misura per 2-1 sul Borussia Moenchengladbach, grazie alle reti realizzate da Madlung e Gentner. Inutile il gol di Bradley per gli ospiti. Successo anche per il Borussia Dortmund: 2-0 il finale sul Bochum, firmato dall’uno-due di Barrios e Subotic.
