Jag har tidigare bloggat om den fina blomsterkransen från Oskar och Ellen. En ljuvlig liten blommande krans i mjukaste mjukt. Nu har jag också sett att samma variant finns som luciakrona. Hur gulligt som helst ju! Eftersom Babyshop har fri frakt just nu så passade jag på att beställa hem den därifrån, ihop med Sångpåsen som blir en fin julklapp.

The tradition of celebrating Lucia is a relatively modern one, with the first reference to a woman dressing in white and carrying candles only occurring in Sweden in 1764. Lucia was a young Christian woman from Syracuse in Sicily who was put to death on December 13th 304 AD because of her faith.

Initially the custom of celebrating Lucia was found in the western parts of Sweden, largely amongst more affluent families, but is now held throughout the country. The Santa Lucia celebration is a very special event and the faith of Santa Lucia herself reinforces the belief that light comes into the world which will never be overcome by darkness.

Santa Lucia has been celebrated at Gustav Adolf church since its opening in 1884 and the central elements have remained unchanged over the years, the Queen of Light, coming with her attendants to spread joy, warmth and light, in the winter darkness.

More recently the Santa Lucia celebration has been held elsewhere on Merseyside, including the IKEA store at Warrington. It has now become an annual fixture at Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral and represents a truly international and ecumenical occasion.

Såhär vackert och krispigt var det i början av december förra året. Jag hoppas att det kommer vara minst lika fint och snöigt vid lucia, för då flyttar jag hem igen. Egentligen så förstår jag inte riktigt att jag har dom här tankarna, men jag längtar efter snön!

visst är det så att advent står för dörren och jag vet inte riktigt hur jag ska hinna med allting som jag har tänkt att jag ska hinna med att göra. Jag vet ju inte riktigt hur jag ens ska ha tid att bara sätta mig ner på rumpan ochkolla igenom alla bloggar som jag hela tiden missar. det är så himla tråkigt för jag har verkligen varit hur off som helst den senaste tiden och det är ju inte någonting som jag vill.

Hur som helst så är det bara en vecka kvar tills all den där julstressen sätter igång på allvar. Om en vecka är det julskyltnng och det kommer att spelas julmusik överallt efter detta. sedan har vi alla glöggkvällar och sedan har vi alla mysigastunder hemma med bakstuga och liknande. Ja, det är ju en hel del som man känner att man vill hitta på under adventstiden men det är okcså saker som jag just nu faktiskt inte känner att jag hinner med tyvärr.

Vi tänder det första ljuset i vår adventsljusstake – men ojdå jag har ju inte ens funderat på hur vi ska ha det här hemma… har ni redan bytt till julgardiner eller när gör ni det?

Jag känner att allting har gått så himla fort och skulle egentligen vilja byta till julgardiner vid första advent för att känna att jag kan njuta av den tiden lite extra men vi får väl se helt enkelt – berors på hur mycke jag jobbar!!!

Hur som helst sedan blir det andra advent och då är det snart dags för alla julavslutningar i kyrkan som jag jobbar i. Därefter kommer tredje advent och luciahelgen! ojojoj ja, det är en hel del saker med det också men då ska jag faktiskt tillsammans med min sambo åka till oslo och det ska verkligen bli jättemysigt.

Sedan är det en hel del vecka full med massa hektiska saker på jobbet, fjärde advent och allt vad det innebär sedan är vi inne i julveckan och det känns ju också lite oplanerat. Jag har inte riktigt så stor koll som jag har haft de andra åren vad gäller vår jul. Vi har inte riktigt planerat för dettai år – men det kommer säkerligen att lösa sig skulle jag tro, men det är lite oroligt fortfarande!

hur som helst kommer vi att vara med både min familj och med min sambosfamilj. Jag hoppas att vi kommer att kunna inför någon annan tradition som gör att vi får det lite lugnare på julen och int fara runt hela tiden. Det är ju inte så himla roligt heller eftersom det är så att min sambo fyller år på annandagen – det är så himla tråkigt när det alltid är så att alla andra har saker då… men det är sådant som man får leva med – jag brukar ju fylla år vid påsk=)

Hur som helst så känns det som om det är väldigt mycket just nu och det är lite jobbigt!

Hoppas att det kommer att lugna nersig, det känns ju ganksa mycket som om jag har koll på läget i varje fall och det är skönt!

Anche se manca ancora qualche dettaglio da aggiungere, il paragrafo sulla Scuola di Ulm è in sostanza finito…restano per ora nel testo, in rosso, quelle che diventeranno poi le note (una questione di comodità mia di redazione).
Non si tratta del primo paragrafo del capitolo (che comincerà invece parlando della colonia degli artisti di Darmstadt per poi passare al Bauhaus) ma ho cominciato da qui per motivi di disponibilità dei testi. Infatti, una importante parte del lavoro di ogni tesi è l’assidua frequentazione delle biblioteche….con tutte le difficoltà connesse..

Nu är det bara 31 dagar kvar till jul!

Igår bakade vi pepparkakor & dottern körde bil i mängder. Idag har vi fortsatt med att köra bil runt hela staden och innan det var dags för henne att åka med tåget hem har vi även hunnit med att baka lite. (se nedan) Dottern har nu åkt med lite smått och gott i kappsäcken här hemifrån. Saknar dig gumman!! =)

Dagens aktivitet: Baka saffransbröd
Idag har vi bakat saffransbröd som sedan blivit lussekatter & Saras saffranshjärtan med vanilj. Eftersom dottern inte tycker om russin blev det endast en halv sats av hjärtan och till den andra halvan uteslöt jag helt enkelt russinen och gjorde ”vaniljbullar” istället av saffransdegen. Får jag bestämma en favorit vinner bullarna och hjärtan, men lite kattor ska det vara till 1:a advent & lucia.

Vad är ditt favorit recept på saffransbröd? Mitt är ganska enkelt, det är ett helt vanligt vetedegsrecept men jag byter ut kardemumman mot 2pkt saffran per ½liter degvätska.

Dagens middag: Skinkstek, kokt potatis & gräddsås.

Jag har aldrig varit svenskare än när jag bodde utomlands. Aldrig värnat Lucia och lussekatter, hyllat adventsljusen, tänt så många stjärnor i fönstren och pyntat trädgården med så många bling-bling-buskar som då, när alla andra bara shoppade loss och gjorde sig redo för Juldagens kalkon. Vi hade svenskt julbord OCH kalkon (och har fortfarande, faktiskt). Och ja, jag har  till och med utsatt den engelska svärfamiljen för lutfisk. (Bara en gång – det var ingen hit. Dessutom är jag inte speciellt förtjust i det själv ens.)

Jag tänker på min jakt på vitmossa i Barnes i London (frutklös, adventsljusen fick stå i grön mossa det året) och jakten på färsk jäst till lussebullarna (hittade hos bagaren till sist) när jag läser Jennies blogg om att baka saffransbullar.

Been there, done that – and now: Revisiting.

För medan jag siter här och tänker att det kanske är dags för lite julbak så är maken i full gång i vårt skånska kök (med regnet strilar utanför fönstret, sedär, åtminstone vädret känns som hemma i England…).

Mixen till mince pies står faktiskt sen en vecka och geggar ihop sig. Idag gör han Christmas pudding. Behöver jag ens säga att han ALDRIG gjorde Xmas pudding så länge det fanns en en Waitrose inom räckhåll? Inga egna mince pies heller för den delen.

Och det blir inte sämre när jag läser Nigella Lawsons Domestic Goddess att just idag är Stir Up Sunday.

Inside those hallowed pages you’ll find not one…but two offerings of my short fiction.  I’ll admit, having my name on the cover and being singularly segmented in the table of contents makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

The first is called “A Picture’s Worth” and I have to say that I believe this to be my best short fiction yet.  The story revolves around Lorrie Spencer and her young son Cody, a remnant from a satanic artist’s vile work, the trapped souls of children, and the love and protection a mother feels for her offspring.  Writing the story disturbed me several times through the endeavor, and I honestly had to get up and go have a smoke to calm down.  This was probably the first story where what I had intended was completely sidestepped by the characters, and fate took over to rule out the final act.  Because reality rarely has happy endings…

The second offering is called “Collaboration of B. Lyle” and, from the title, you can probably guess at least one of the characters in this one.  This story came to me after seeing first-hand the way a small handful of publishers and editors (not all, mind you) in this genre feed off of new writers.  The main character’s name may even strike a chord to some of those out there–and that was intentional.  Most of the time, said types of people get away with their dirty deeds.  In this story, they do not.

The issue also introduces the first in a line of columns Brian Keene is penning for Shroud entitled “Seminal Screams”, where he introduces readers to books of extreme importance in the genre.  Awesome column.  Michael Knost’s “Prog-Knost-Ications” this time around focuses on the Sinister Minister himself, Maurice Broaddus.  Other pieces of non-fiction included are from Norman L. Rubenstein, Kevin Lucia, Kurt Bachard, and I.E. Lester.  There’s a novel excerpt from John Shirley, an illustrated story from Brothers May, winner and runner-ups of the flash fiction contest, and enough great fiction in this 150+ page monster to keep you occupied for a long, long time.  Highlights include stories by Jackie Gamber, Joel Sutherland, Timothy P. Remp, Richard Alan Scott, Steve Vernon, and D.L. Snell.

Not to mention a beautiful layout and designs by the unbelievably talented Danny Evarts, and some insanely gorgeous art by Mark Pexton and a host of others.

Decisivo è stato un colloquio ricco di spunti, che ha prodotto una fitta serie di suggerimenti e nuovi ambiti da esplorare un pò alla volta (la foto è terribile, lo so….):

La scaletta subisce quindi un riordino e viene notevolmente dettagliata, almeno per due di quelli che ora sono diventati 4 capitoli in totale. Ecco qua la nuova scaletta.

Si apre una nuova fase di ricerche massiccie in biblioteca per poter mettere mano alla stesura del primo capitolo, una panoramica storica che si concentra sul alcuni momenti fondamentali per la storia del progetto.
Gli spunti sono veramente molti e non posso che procedere con ordine.
Al momento, sto lavorando sul paragrafo che riguarda la Scuola di Ulm, sudando sopra un voluminoso ma ricco catalogo di una mostra organizzata negli anni ‘80.
Entro il finesettimana spero di postarlo (magari finito e corretto).

Di qui in avanti, l’aggiornamento sarà al presente, cioè in tempo reale….ciò significa molto probabilmente un rallentamento nella frequenza dei post, visto che finora stavamo riepilogando il lavoro svolto nell’ultimo mese (mica abbiamo fatto tutto questo in una settimana!)….ma ci daremo da fare

Sulla base di suggerimenti e dopo aver risfogliato tutti gli appunti dei corsi seguiti all’Accademia di Belle Arti, è comparsa una seconda versione della scalettaa cui si è accompagnato il lavoro su un primo corpo di testo, partendo proprio da quegli spunti ritrovati nei quaderni che per fortuna ho conservato con cura.
Ho iniziato a scrivere dalla parte per me più facile, quella che conosco un pò meglio: con in mano Da cosa nasce cosa ho cercato di riassumere le fasi del metodo progettuale descritto da Munari e ho iniziato ad abbozzare i paragrafi che nella mia mente avevano già una forma più chiara e compiuta.
Ecco il risultato.

26 weeks. Lucia had an OB appointment today. The baby looks good – for some reason her OB does an ultrasound with each visit and this time we saw that the baby had the hiccups. Lucia has gained 9 pounds so far and if she’s lucky she will gain only another 15 pounds or less. She got the H1N1 (swine flu) vaccine. Her current pregnancy *complaints* are rapid heart beat she experiences from *exerting* herself doing normal things, like walking from the kitchen to the bedroom. The rapid heart beat makes her feel faint and woozy and she usually has to sit or lay down to feel better. The other issue is sciatic nerve pain.

Lucia had both girls with her for the appointment and for the most part, they were pretty good. During the visit, Mallory told Lucia, “your bottom is too big to tinkle in a cup. I tinkle in ‘da potty.” There isn’t a lot that you can hide from Mallory; she notices everything.

Lovely. Lucia went to the dentist today for her semi-annual cleaning and exam and discovered that not only did one of her fillings come out (the dark spot in her tooth), but that tooth is also cracked. The dentist said she’s lucky she’s not in pain. So, now she’ll have to go back in and get a new filling and a partial crown (a porcelain cap?). Apparently she’s hard on her teeth (from clenching?) because this isn’t her first cracked tooth. Dental problems during/around pregnancy are nothing new for Lucia. When she was pregnant with Mallory, she had to get a root canal and crown. Right after she had Chelsea, she had another root canal and crown. Sadly, this is par for the course.

Per decidere su cosa sarebbe stata la mia tesi di laurea specialistica, ho cercato di ragionare partendo soprattutto dall’idea di creare una continuità con quella realizzata alla triennale. In quel caso mi ero occupata di arte generativa, realizzando un progetto che prevedeva un blog di sviluppo e una serie di elementi anche grafici (immagini, impaginazione, sigla video).

A questo punto, ho sentito la necessità prima di tutto di chiarire a me stessa proprio le motivazioni del lavoro, buttando giù una bozza di

What now?

‘Tis the season. Christmas candy has hit the store shelves and these candy cane Hershey’s Kisses are Lucia’s favorite. A bag doesn’t last long in this household.

Alla 4 tikar löper just nu, mer eller mindre. Så träningen blir väldigt olika från dag till dag…

Jaffa brukar vara väldigt låg och okoncentrerad (hon skulle nog precis börja löpa när vi tävlade). Igår var hon sån, men idag har hon varit väldigt duktig. Jag tränade bl a fot med henne, med en rolig skottkärra + och en katt som sprang fram och tillbaka framför oss som störning =) Det gick riktigt bra faktiskt.

Och Wilma… Hon har precis slutat löpa och är just nu min drömhund… ♥ Hon är SÅ motiverad när vi tränar och det är jättekul =) Jag håller på att träna in VÄND ordentligt med både henne och Jaffa.

Så tränade jag Daisy lite på fot och sånt som hon tycker är kul

Idag lottade vi om vem som skulle bli Lucia i skolan. Än så länge är det hemligt! =P

I lördags var jag, Emelie & Hanna hemma hos Louise och provade kläder till Sunedagen som firas 27 nov på våran skola =D Det är nästan bestämt vad vi ska vara, men än så länge är det också hemligt…

Imorgon är det filmkonsert =D Jag och Emelie ska klä ut oss till “Anonyma filmstjärnor”, rött läppstift och grejer =D Blir kul att se hur fin min klarinett kommer bli efter att ha spelat med läppstift xD

Hundar är inte hela världen, men de gör världen hel…

Her official birthday is November 9th, but Yessa was properly celebrated on Sunday, November 8th this year.  Though 6 of our favorite people on the planet couldn’t come due to sickness (get well soon–Lombardi crew), the rest of the beloved family and friends came out to cheer and sing for this sweet three- year old.

Buds took our three children on a ramble around the lake so that Mom and Grandma could get the house cleaned and decorated, so Yessa wasn’t quite sure she could stay awake for the cake:

First, before we sing songs and unwrap presents, here’s how the party unfolded.

When people arrived, or in most cases, walked out their front doors, they were met by the “Slide of Death.”  Buds and Neighbor Aaron had the fantastic idea of using some cardboard boxes we freecycled to create a giant slide in front of our houses.  It was quality tested a couple weekends ago, and deemed such a huge success, it became part of the birthday extravaganza.  Here are some random shots of the kids and adults having a great time.

After the Slide of Death exhausted everyone (especially Noa,) we headed inside for the Web of Fun.

When people walked in our front door, they were greeted by this:

Each child had a stick with her name on it, attached to a piece of yarn.  They followed that piece of yarn, wrapping it around the stick, up, down, all around, until it finally led to their special bag at the end.  In the bag was a wooden picture frame with wooden letters to spell out that child’s name.  After finding the bags, everyone trooped out to the back deck for decorating time, which was enjoyed as much by some of the adults as the children.

It was a perfect 70 degree day, so we utilized all our spaces.  And adults might consider the leaves on the back deck a nuisance, but with wonderful open-heartedness, the children just saw another place to play.

After the crafty urge was quenched, we moved indoors to sing to the sweet girl.  She was a little overwhelmed by everyone singing and cheering for her, but mustered her resources to blow out the candles with gusto. 

The Dora cake was a big hit with Noa, as well as the mini-cakes Ms. Jenny made in gingerbread and pumpkin, which went well with the green cream cheese frosting. 

Yessa is enjoying her presents, and everyone slept like logs last night.  Thanks to all for a wonderful day.  And thanks for loving our youngest.

So not only did SJP and Matthew Broderick have twins, they’ve generated double the press with their name choices.

First came the announcement that the girls were named Marion Loretta Elwell and Tabitha Hodge.  Which was followed by chatter about how Marion and Tabitha were mismatched, and wasn’t it unfair that poor Tabitha had just two given names?

Now we learn that  SJP and Matthew Broderick call their girls Loretta and Tabitha - and that firstborn James Wilkie was responsible for choosing the name Marion.  And he was wily enough to insist that it be legal, which is why the parents put Marion first, rather than tucking her in the middle.  (Weigh in on Yea or Nay: Loretta here.  So far, opinion is split pretty evenly.)

When I asked Aly what he wanted to name his pterodactyl (no, not a real one.  This isn’t Torchwood), he told me December.  Which I find strangely appealing.  Nonetheless, I’m glad we didn’t let him (seriously) weigh in on his sister’s name.

In other starbaby news:

• Jane Carrey has announced that her dad, funnyman Jim Carrey is about to be a grandpa. Apparently, Jane and boyfriend Alex Santana have already settled on the name Jackson Riley;
• Alicia Minshew of All My Children welcomed a daughter, Willow Lenora;
• Layla Kayleigh, host of America’s Best Dance Crew, and Steve Corvino, of Sirius Radio, announced the birth of a daughter, Melody Rain;
• Model Karolina Kurkova is new mom to son Tobin Jack;
• Footballer Wayne Rooney and wife Colleen are the parents of a son, Kai Wayne;
• And, of course, Mel Gibson is a father for the EIGHTH time.  He and girlfriend welcomed daughter Lucia.  Mel’s first seven kids are Hannah, Edward, Christian, William, Louis, Milo and Thomas.

Elsewhere online:

• I love the Nymbler stats!  October’s Top Ten is as follows: Charlotte, Ava, Amelia, Benjamin, Ella, Grace, Jack, Finn, Oliver and Abigail.  And the Top Five brand new names?  It’s quite the celeb-driven list: Sparrow, Anniston, Huckleberry, October and Pixie;
• Remind me to take Nancy along the next time I’m facing a long drive somewhere.  She’s traveling the highways and by-ways of Mississippi while reading the phone book to spot unusual real names!  Her lists are fascinating – check out the sixth in the series here, and follow the links back.  You just know there are stories behind names like Jaston, Tavarius and Hacksaw.  Plus she’s discovered several people with the name Toxie;
• Wladimir Lyra of the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy in Heidelberg is pushing to give names to the known exoplanets.  (Hat tip to Language Log.)  Scientists are discovering planets outside of the solar system at a gallop – they’re at 400 and counting.  The sage fonts of wisdom at the International Astronomical Union feel that it would be impractical to name them all.  Instead, they assign strings of numbers and letters.  Too bad – I know we could all put our heads together and name 400 planets in no time – Jaston, Tavarius and Hacksaw are all available;
• Over at For Real Baby Names, there’s mention of a British Minne Jane Snoo.  Please, please, please let Snoo be a family name and not a clever twist on Boo.  In happier news, her list also includes a Hero Charlotte Moranna and a Flora Isabella Minette;
• While I’m spotting trends that trouble me, Bewildertrix brings us Xzavia Paul William.  But there’s also a Serena Alice Louisa, little sister to Verity.  And I’ve seen Verity in a few other BAs recently;
• Lastly, check out Elisabeth’s post on Country baby names over at You Can’t Call It “It”.  While not all of these conjure up haystacks and John Deere for me, maybe that’s because I’m already hearing them on kids inside the DC Beltway – Clio has classmates called Mabel and Ida, and I know fashion-forward urbaniste parents with offspring answering to Polly, Earl and Roscoe;
