São Paulo será la sede de la primera edición del Simposio Sudamericano de Plone

También se discute el uso de Plone en instituciones de gobierno, las empresas casos de negocios en el sector privado y las buenas prácticas de desarrollo.

Coordinado por la comunidad Plone en Brasil y de Plone Cono Sur, el evento contará con la participación de, entre otros oradores, Eric Steele, “administrador de la versión” de Plone 4, y Alexander Limi, co-creador de Plone. Esta es la primera edición de un simposio Plone celebrado fuera de los Estados Unidos y Europa.

Es una Asociación Civil (Associação Python Brasil o APyB) fundada en Julio de 2007. La asociación reúne a usuarios y desarrolladores de Python, Zope y Plone. Ofrece dos listas de correos, Python Brasil con dos mil miembros y ZopePt con novecientos. Mantiene dos sitios, PythonBrasil y TcheZope.org. El grupo organiza anualmente la conferencia mas grande de Python en Latinoamerica llamada PyConBrasil.

There follows the Conception of Cú Chulainn from the Book of Druimm Snechta.

Conchobar and the nobles of Ulster were at Emain Macha.  A flock of birds arrived on the plain before Emain, and ate, leaving not so much as a root or a leaf or a blade of grass in the ground. It was upsetting for the Ulstermen to see their land so despoiled. That day they made ready nine chariots to chase them away, for hunting birds was a custom of theirs.

There was Conchobar in his chariot, his full-grown sister Deichtine beside him, for she was her father’s charioteer. Then the champions of Ulster in their chariots, Conall Cernach and Lóegaire Buadach and everyone else. Even Bricriu was with them.

The birds went before them effortlessly, past Slíab Fúait, past Edmond, past Brega. There was neither earthwork nor fence nor stone wall in the country of Ireland at that time, only level plains (it wasn’t until the times of the sons of Áed Slane that they created boundaries in Ireland, so great were the number of dwellings).

The flight of the birds, and their song, captivated the Ulstermen with their beauty. There were nine score birds in all, with a silver chain between each pair of birds, and each score flew its own way. And two birds flew out in front, a silver yoke between them.

As evening drew on, three birds split off from the rest and flew on ahead towards the Brug na Bóinde. Night fell upon the Ulstermen, and there was a great fall of snow. Conchobar told his retinue to unyoke the chariots and to have a look for some shelter for them.

Conall and Bricriu went to have a look. They found a single, newly-built house. They went in, and found a couple there, who made them welcome. Then they returned to the retinue. Bricriu said it wasn’t fit for them to stay in a house that couldn’t offer them food or clothing, and which was on the small side, but they went all the same, taking their chariots with them.

They barely fit into that house. Immediately they saw a door to a storehouse. When it was time to serve food, the Ulstermen were soon merry with drink and in good humour.

Then the man of the house told them his wife was in labour in the storehouse. Deichtine went in and gave her assistance, and she bore a son. At the same time, a mare gave birth to two colts in the doorway of the house. The Ulstermen took the boy, and they gave him the colts as a gift. Deichtine nursed him.

When morning came, the Ulstermen found themselves to the east of the Brug, and neither the house nor the birds could be seen, only their own horses, and the boy and his colts. They took them to Emain with them, and the boy was raised to early childhood among them. Then he took sick, and died of it. He was mourned.

Deichtine was devastated at the loss of her foster-child. Her sighing made her thirsty. She asked for a drink from a copper vessel, and one was brought to her. When she brought it to her lips, a tiny creature leaped from the liquid into her mouth. When she put it down, empty, she felt drained.

As she slept that night, she saw a man who spoke to her. He told her she would bear his child. It was he who had brought her and her companions to the Brug na Bóinde, and it was in his house they’d spent the night. The child she had nursed was his, as was the one he had put into her belly. His name was to be Sétanta, and the colts were to be reared for him. The man was Lug mac Ethnenn  himself.

And so the girl was pregant, and this was a matter of concern among the Ulstermen, because she didn’t have a husband. They attributed the child to a drunken Conchobar, for the girl used to sleep next to him.

After that, Conchobar betrothed the girl to Súaltam mac Róich. She was very ashamed to go to her husband’s bed pregnant by another, o she went to the bedstead and stabbed and beat her belly this way and that, until she was virgin-whole. Then she slept with her husband, and immediately became pregnant again. She bore him a son.

Culann the smith took him as his foster-son. When he was a lad, he killed Culann’s dog, which came from the síd,  when he was playing, and because of that he said, ‘I’ll be your dog, master.’ And that’s how the name Cú Chulainn - Culann’s Hound – became attached to him.

Last year LugRadio wrapped up after five seasons, over 2million downloads and six live events. For over a year Tony Whitmore from the ubuntu-uk Podcast has been working on a documentary chronicling the history of the show, and packed with interviews, behind-the-scenes footage of how the show was planned, the studio, LugRadio Live USA and more. He premiered the hour-long documentary at LugRadio Live 2009 to resounding applause and acclaim, and it is now available online, and freely available under a Creative Commons License.

Kopdar (pura-puranya) Resmi Manux telah diselenggarakan di aula SMK/STIKES Hasanuddin Mataram. Dari target peserta 20 orang, yang hadir 13 orang (dari absen), termasuk saya.

Meskipun di undangan, kopdar di mulai pukul 10.00, peserta baru terkumpul pukul 10.58, karena berbagai alasan, terutama karena lokasi yang kurang dikenal para peserta, sebagian peserta tidak tahu letak lokasi.

Acaranya sendiri berlangsung lancar, sesuai dengan jadwal acara.

Acara pertama dibawakan oleh mas Soni dengan judul “Linux dan Open Source”. Diteruskan dengan tanya jawab seputar materi.
Tetapi rupanya, peserta tidak berminat, malah bertanya tentang masalah-masalah yang mereka hadapi saat menggunakan Linux sehari-hari.

Acara kedua dilanjutkan dengan Karmic Release Party (KRP), Demo dan Instalasi Ubuntu 9.10.

Pada sesi ini, kurang greget juga, karena seharusnya dibawakan oleh mas Soni, malah saya (Amrinz) yang diminta menggantikan. Akhirnya dengan penjelasan seadanya saya menawarkan kepada peserta yang rupanya, tidak ada yang mau menginstall Ubuntu 9.10 dengan berbagai alasan, saya sendiri masih sayang dengan Jaunty saya.

Pada acara diskusi, kami sepakat untuk mengadakan Kopdar #2 pada tanggal 6 Desember 2009, tempatnya (jika berhasil lobby) di STMIK Bumigora. Jika tidak, kopdar akan diadakan kembali di SMK/STIKES Hasanuddin.

Dari hasil kontribusi sukarela peserta, berhasil terkumpul dana Rp 154.000,- yang akan digunakan untuk kopdar #2 dan sebagian lagi untuk sisihan ILC 2011 mendatang.

Iedereen was het er over eens, de LUG2009 in de RAI was een zeer geslaagd en fantastisch evenement. Zelfs zo geslaagd dat het ook weer in 2010 wordt georganiseerd en wel op 17 en 18 juni, dus noteer het vast in je agenda. Ruim 300 bezoekers. Het riep herinneringen op aan vroeger, toen Lotus nog dergelijke evenementen organiseerde. Hulde aan Marnix.

De presentaties van AppliGate over DAOS en XPages trokken veel bezoekers en de reacties waren heel erg positief. Deze week zetten we onze presentaties, inclusief de filmpjes op de website van AppliGate, zodat wie niet kon komen ze achteraf toch kan bekijken. Dus kijk vanaf woensdag a.s. op onze website.

En dan de tombola. De prijs van AppliGate: een gratis 2-daagse XPages cursus. Als je geïnteresseerd was kon je je visitekaartje in een glazen pot droppen. We hadden wel geteld 38 kaartjes. Aan het einde van de tweede dag vond de trekking plaats in de grote zaal.

Questo e’ stato il primo anno in cui, dopo lunghe e travagliate vicende, in Torino si e’ svolto un solo Linux Day. Ma, ahime’, non e’ tutto oro quel che luccica.

Dopo la scissione del LUG cittadino (oggi denominato “GlugTo“), avvenuta nel 2002 con la costituzione del parallelo “GNUG” (o anche, per alcuni, “quelli di Torte” in riferimento al curioso nome affibiato alla mailing list di riferimento), i due insiemi hanno sempre provveduto ad organizzare la manifestazione per conto proprio senza disturbarsi reciprocamente piu’ di tanto. Io mi trovai a militare la lista di GNUG, frequentai un paio di appuntamenti in veste di manovale nel reparto LIP, ed iniziai a maturare un discreto disagio sul fatto di agire ed operare portando inconsapevolmente un “cappello” che non era il mio, ma quello di un gruppo che pur non essendo una associazione aveva una sua gerarchia di fatto, non democratica e neppure meritocratica, fondata in un certo qual modo sull’anzianita’, sulle relazioni personali dei membri, e sui loro interessi privati. Membri che assai raramente prendevano parte attiva alle azioni concrete, preferendo evidentemente lasciare che fossero i piu’ entusiasti (o i piu’ ingenui) a condurre le attivita’ da cui il buon nome della combriccola dipendeva. E per quanto ci si sperticasse nel dichiarare che quello era un organo informale e senza scopo di autopromozione, si pretendeva il logo. E’ successo quel che e’ successo e da tre anni l’organizzazione della manifestazione ottobrina presso la capitale sabauda e’ in appalto ad un evanescente gruppo espressamente dedicato a tale attivita’, che per esplicita volonta’ dei fondatori (tra cui me) non puo’ essere ricondotto per meriti o elogi a nessuna realta’ tra le tanti esistenti in Torino: ognuno partecipa solo in virtu’ di quanto stampato sulla propria carta di identita’ e dell’impegno personale profuso nell’operazione, senza possibilita’ che qualcuno se ne stia comodamente seduto in poltrona per poi raccattare le lodi ed i frutti del lavoro svolto da altri. Una configurazione che reputo non solo corretta nei confronti dei molti che contribuiscono pur non essendo all’interno di nessuna delle summenzionate associazione e che dunque non verrebbero rappresentati da nessuno stemma preconfezionato, ma anche estremamente vantaggiosa in quanto naturalmente proiettata verso l’apertura ed alla raccolta di risorse umane e non.

Ma a ben guardare l’evento gestito dal Comitato non e’ il Linux Day di Torino, ma un Linux Day di Torino, quello ereditato da GNUG. Diversi sono stati i tentativi di far confluire anche i soci di GlugTo in questa iniziativa, ma con assai scarsi risultati: nel 2006, ultimo anno dell’Era pre-Comitato, si era quasi riusciti a mettere insieme le due organizzazioni ma il LUG diede buca all’ultimo momento e senza avviso, tant’e’ che comunque sui volantini rimase il loro nome; nel 2007, primo anno dell’Era del Comitato, siamo stati troppo affaccendati nel piantare le radici del nuovo corso e semplicemente abbiamo limitato i contatti al minimo indispensabile; nel 2008 c’e’ stato un incontro, ma il piu’ che si e’ riusciti ad ottenere e’ stata la reciproca menzione dei due eventi uno sul volantino e sul sito dell’altro. Nel corso di questo intervallo comunque in GlugTo si e’ sempre osservato con diffidenza e scrupolo al nascente nucleo indipendente, per il semplice fatto che per qualche esoterico motivo esso e’ sempre stato mentalmente (ed infondatamente) ricondotto al fu’ GNUG e a tutti i non piacevoli trascorsi tra le due fazioni: i contrasti individuali sono stati ampliati anche al pugno di ragazzotti colpevoli di essersi incontrati per la prima volta sulla mailing list dello storico rivale, ed il desiderio di non aver nulla a che fare con gli antagonisti si e’ risolto nel desiderio di non aver nulla a che fare con noi. E’ finito negli annali il mezzo flame (presto placato con qualche mail privata) innescato sul canale di ILS, quando un membro di GNUG indirettamente accuso’ il Linux Day di GlugTo di non rispettare le linee guida nazionali e questi per tutta risposta attaccarono il Linux Day del Comitato reo di chiamarsi “Linux Day Torino” e di essersi dunque a parer loro indebitamente arrogato il diritto della manifestazione.

Venne il 2009. Quest’anno gli incontri sono stati piu’ numerosi in virtu’ delle convocazioni fatte da parte di TorinOpen, N+1esimo ente immolato all’unificazione delle risorse linuxofile torinesi che col pretesto di occuparsi di qualche contenuto popolare pre e post 24 ottobre ha messo intorno ad un tavolo i vertici di GlugTo e qualche rappresentante del Comitato LDT. Nonche’ me, che non sono mai stato socio della prima ed ho a questa tornata lasciato i secondi, ma mi piace seguire da vicino i sommovimenti della community. In almeno un paio di occasioni si e’ esplicitamente parlato di far convergere le forze in un unico evento, sfruttando i gia’ delineati bacini di interesse (al LUG la mattinata di dibattito con le istituzioni, agli altri il pomeriggio piu’ tecnico) per far si’ da lasciare a ciascuno liberta’ di azione, ma non c’e’ stato modo alcuno di trovare un compromesso su un’unico punto: il logo. Come detto, presso il Comitato vige la regola non scritta percui il Linux Day per essere di tutti non deve essere di nessuno. Come immaginabile, presso GlugTo il riconoscimento dell’associazione e’ condizione imprescindibile per la partecipazione. Leggi nettamente contrastanti a cui nessuno dei due ha voluto rinunciare, col risultato di salutarsi neppure troppo amichevolmente. Alla fine loro non sono riusciti a predisporre l’appuntamento mattutino che avrebbero voluto, e da qui il fatto che agli atti c’e’ stata una unica manifestazione ufficiale, ma pur non avendo nulla da presentare non hanno esitato a svolgere ugualmente un proprio Install Party nel pomeriggio del fatidico sabato di cui sinceramente non conosco l’esito considerando che almeno due dei pochi membri realmente attivi erano alla Cascina.

Situazioni di questo genere temo non siano infrequenti in giro per l’Italia: numerosi centri abitati, anche piccoli, hanno piu’ entita’ che operano in modo totalmente indipendente e senza il benche’ minimo contatto, anzi talvolta in conflitto, affannandosi solo di mettere in bella vista la propria denominazione, cercando di raccogliere il maggior numero di iscritti (paganti la quota, diciamolo) da far risultare sui propri registri. A titolo di esempio, esattamente mentre scrivevo queste parole vedo il presidente di GlugTo (mi si voglia perdonare se mi accanisco su questa specifica realta’, ma e’ quella che ho piu’ sotto gli occhi e meglio si presta ad una analisi dettagliata) che commenta un articolo in merito ad un imminente evento linuxofilo felicitandosi non gia’ della visibilita’ dell’iniziativa ma della menzione del suo proprio gruppo. L’autoreferenzialita’ ha smesso da un pezzo di essere un rischio, e’ oramai una certezza: l’importante e’ il bollino, e senza bollino non si fa niente. Il risultato e’ che ogni ente acquisisce una sua identita’, una sua coscienza ed un suo istinto di sopravvivenza, e la missione non e’ piu’ la promozione del software libero ma dell’istituto in se’, i cui membri sono fidelizzati fino al punto di disinteressarsi completamente a qualsiasi accadimento svoltosi al di fuori delle quattro mura della mailing list di appartenenza.

So perfettamente che volenti o nolenti nel mondo open il riconoscimento dei singoli e’ uno dei motori principali di qualsiasi opera, e non lo si puo’ (e non lo si deve) negare. So perfettamente che senza associazioni costituite sarebbe immensamente piu’ complicato ottenere spazi e fondi dalle municipalita’, con le quali si dialoga solo su carta bollata. So perfettamente che possano esistere attriti tra diverse persone, che rendono difficili particolari collaborazioni e concilii. Ma so anche che esiste il buon senso, e che qualche volta occorre farne uso.

Lo stesso Linux Day Torino e’ la dimostrazione pratica del teorema. Coinvolge una grande quantita’ di volontari e di pubblico, viene considerato uno dei migliori eventi in giro per l’Italia, e una parte delle risorse usate proviene appunto da una associazione: la lista pubblica ed il sito stanno su un loro server, i contatti per avere i grandi spazi comunali impiegati sono saltati fuori dalla loro agenda, la responsabilita’ della manifestazione se la sono accollata loro, e quest’anno si son pure smazzati la rendicontazione delle palanche giunte in forma di finanziamento della Regione. (Disclosure: di suddetto soggetto io sono membro, ma parlo in terza persona non avendo io partecipato a nessuna di queste attivita’). Eppure, il loro nome non appare su nessun volantino, ne’ sul sito, ne’ in nessun’altro luogo al di fuori della cerchia di persone interne al Comitato. Perche’? Perche’ non si puo’ avere la botte piena e la moglie ubriaca. Assegnare un riconoscimento pubblico, magari per certi aspetti pure meritato, farebbe crollare l’intera impalcatura intorno a cui l’organizzazione attuale e’ costruita: per le gia’ menzionate questioni degli storici rancori non ci sarebbe la partecipazione degli esuli del GNUG e dei disertori del GlugTo, ne’ per velleita’ egualitarie degli anarchici di Underscore e TLTF, ne’ tantomeno per aspirazioni pubblicitarie di altre associazioni come Ingegneria Senza Frontiere, oppure ancora dei numerosissimi “freelance” che costituiscono il cuore operativo dell’evento. E a quel punto, se non ci fosse la manodopera di quella trentina di persone che fanno il Linux Day sul campo, col server per la mailing list e con gli spazi comunali e con i fondi regionali ci si potrebbe fare un falo’. Il gioco non vale la candela, e comunque l’associazione ci “guadagna” sul fatto che viene resa nota la sua esistenza ed il suo impegno presso i componenti piu’ reattivi e propositivi della combriccola e potra’ da li’ affiancare qualche potenziale nuovo socio che possa lavorare espressamente con quel cappello in altre circostanze, coscientemente e responsabilmente. Buon senso.

Sarebbe ora di muoversi per il bene comune, non per quello individuale. L’unico nome e’ “community”, l’unico logo il pinguino. Da soli non si fa niente, o comunque talmente poco da essere equiparabile a niente. Insieme si fa tanto, si fa tutto, e tutti ci guadagniamo.

Neuron ‘09, a technical fest, was held between 23rd and 24th of October, 2009 in my institute and I must say, those guys managed to pull it off pretty well! A once in a blue moon situation, most of the events violated the ‘Indian Standard Time’ rule by actually beginning and ending on time! When’s the last time you saw that happen here? Anyways, as always, we from the MNIT Open Source User Mesh (MOSUM) decided to conduct a little FOSS workshop during the three day programme. The 24th of October was the auspicious date as per the alignment of the planets (yeah right). So just like we did with all our other workshops that happened during our tech fests, we decided to bring in speakers from outside. Steven Fernandez (who works for Druvaa, and is also a former Red Hat employee) talked about the FOSS ecosystem, how it works and how one can be a part of it. Jai Pandya (JECRC, Jaipur) followed with a beginner oriented talk on WordPress and how to use it setup a website in under 5 minutes. Finally, I took over with a not-so-beginner-oriented talk on parallel programming using OpenMP (#pragma anyone?). Furthermore, the turnout of 120 was far more than any of us expected! Wonder if the city of Jaipur is really awakening. Let’s just hope that we see new faces turning up for our LUG-Jaipur meets from here on.

Come già ben documentato da Dario nel suo blog, dai primi di settembre a Schio è attivo un nuovo LUG. Dopo sondaggi e votazioni, il nome del neonato gruppo si è assestato su AViLUG. Pur se giovane, ha già il suo sito e la sua mailing list e un LinuxDay al suo attivo!

La partecipazione è aperta ovviamente a chiunque, esperti o semplici curiosi. Se il giorno della settimana prescelto per l’incontro pare essere definitivamente il martedì, il luogo di ritrovo è ancora un po’ ballerino: spesso Piazza Telematica a Schio, ma già questa sera c’è l’eccezione. 25 Lotus Business Partner in Nederland hebben de handen in één geslagen, om samen met IBM Lotus Notes & Domino duidelijker op de markt in Nederland te positioneren. Onder het motto Lotus loves People, wordt de campagne op de LUG2009 groots gelanceerd. Een van de speerpunten van de campagne is mensen bewust te maken van de snelheid en het gemak waarmee je zeer moderne (web)applicaties kunt maken.

De betrokken Business Partners zijn te herkennen aan het Lotus loves People logo.  De gedachte van het logo is dat de Businesspartner de slogan kan aanpassen. AppliGate zou bijvoorbeeld Lotus loves Students als slogan kunnen hanteren.

Laat ons weten als je denkt een beter slogan voor AppliGate te hebben.

L’apertura del Linux Day 2009

Quì Carmelo Brancato ci parla della Computer Forensic spiegandoci il funzionamento di alcuni programmi utili a questa “disciplina” come “autopsy” purtroppo è stato interrotto a metà perchè il tempo messo a dispozione era finito (si era dilungato troppo).

Da notare il pinguino (Tux) di pezza

Questo è un piccolo libretto distribuito che introduceva al progetto GNU, all’Open Source e ai software open alternativi a quelli propietari (firefox,thunderbirds,gim,k3b,etc.), in modo da capire fin da subito di cosa si stava parlando.

E’ stato distribuito anche un libretto informativo che annunciava lo studio di un protocollo di intesa per la collaborazione sulle tematiche dell’open source e della qualità del software.

Simpatica gazzetta che parlava del mondo Open Source e del Linux Day, davvero interessante.

Quì Lorenzo Di Gaetano ci stava mostrando la storia di tutte le vecchie console e i rispettivi emulatori che giravano sotto Linux. (provando anche alcune rom), un’intervento davvero divertente, ricordando le vecchie console.

Quì Corrado Tiralongo ci parla del software libero dal punto di vista di un libero professionista. Non immaginavo fosse tanto complicato acquistare del software proprietario se non si è uno studente. Fortuna che ci sono i programmi Open Source che venogno in loro soccorso.

Uhm non sò se si legge, una piccola battuta tra il tux e lo gnu xD

Quì Gianni Buttà ci parla dell’interessantissimo progetto Open StreetMaps, devo dire che non è niente male come progetto. Con l’aiuto di un bel mucchio di persone si potrebbe fare qualcosa di concreto.

Quì il Presidente del LUG parla della Free Losophy un’interessantissimo argormento purtoppo trattato brevemente (30 minuti).

Ovviamente il programma è stato + vasto, ma putoppo non ho fatto foto per ogni intervento.

Alla fine della mattinata sono state distribuite copie gratuite della distro Ubuntu (v. 9.04)

Ovviamente c’è da ringraziare il LUG Sputnix che ha messo a disposizione il materiale (libretti,giornale,etc.) e L’università di Palermo che ha messo a disposizone i locali.

Una giornata davvero interessante, aspetto con ansia il prossimo Linux Day che si terrà il prossimo anno alla stessa data.

We zijn druk bezig met de voorbereidingen van onze presentaties voor de LUG2009, eind oktober a.s. Jeroen geeft een presentatie over DAOS in de AMD10 sessie. Ikzelf geef twee presentaties: DEV01 – Introductie XPages en DEV02 Advanced XPages.

Om allerlei technieken in DEV02 toe te kunnen lichten hebben we een XPage applicatie gebouwd, Disney Employees. Natuurlijk met een knipoog naar a.s. Lotusphere 2010. Zelf zijn we erg enthousiast over de applicatie, als demo dan natuurlijk. Meer informatie over de applicatie vind je in onze XPage wiki.

Waarschijnlijk komen in DEV02 de volgende onderwerpen aanbod:

• Dojo layout controls. In Domino 8.5.0 moet je nog met <div>’s werken, in versie 8.5.1. is dat zelfs nog meer geïntegreerd en hoef je geen <div>’s meer te gebruiken. Super.
• XPages Custom Controls, natuurlijk de twee van OpenNTF die ik heb gevonden: Login en FishEye CC’s. Ook vond ik een zeer fraai voorbeeld van een View Control CC’s, dus het equivalent van @Command([CollapseAll]) en @Command([ExpandAll]).
• Computed Window title.
• Het gebruik van Java objecten om met externe applicatie te communiceren.
• En tenslotte localization, d.w.z. je applicatie geschikt maken voor verschillende talen (onze applicatie ondersteunt en/nl). Verbluffend makkelijk. Echt Whow!

Na de LUG2009 zullen we onze presentaties op de website van AppliGate zetten.

De LUG2009 wordt een echt groot spectakel. Ongelooflijk wat voor werk Marnix Kemme verzet om er een succes van te maken. Onze complimenten.

Ik geef mijn presentaties op de donderdag en Jeroen op vrijdag. We staan ook met een stand op de LUG2009, mede als “Lotus loves People” deelnemer.

Lotus loves people is een gezamelijke inspanning van alle IBM Lotus Domino Business Partners in samenwerking met IBM Nederland om Lotus Domino extra onder de aandacht te brengen van het MKB. Moet zeker kunnen lukken als je ziet hoe makkelijk en snel je web-applicaties bouwt met XPages met alle voordelen van Domino, o.a. security. Wij zijn enthousiast.

School is in full swing, which means you’ve got classes, student groups, long hours in the library, late night binges after a long night of drinking….

And you gotta fit the gym in there somewhere.

I know, it’s always the first thing to go when things start getting busy, but it shouldn’t be! Working out regularly will keep you fit (obvi), and also help ease the stress and give you that much needed energy to get through those 16 credits, rush meetings, group projects and everything else you need to get through before Friday.

If that’s not enough to motivate you, perhaps some cute clothes will do? It’s obviously not easy to pull yourself out of bed and trek to the gym when you look (and therefore feel) like crap. Those baggy sweats and dirty t-shirts aren’t doing anyone any favors, especially you. And with all the super cute workout-wear that’s out there right now (in every. single. price point), there’s no reason to look drab for the gym. If you’re super busy, you can pile this stuff on before class and sneak in a workout during lunch; the clothes are so cute, no one would ever know. And if you’re just lazy, having cute and trendy pieces around will make you feel better and motivate you to get your butt moving. (It really works!)

If you need a kick in the (yoga) pants to get back to the gym, I’ve got 16 right here for ya. Enjoy.

10 OF WANDS

Oh, the burdens of life! I bet his muscles are going to be sore tomorrow. I was given some money to buy a new bicycle, and I’ve been enjoying it, but my soft tissue problems have flared up somewhat so I’ve had to take a day off. A reminder that taking a full load all at once is perhaps not the best method of exercise.

The approach in the booklet is, as one expects from the publisher Lo Scarabeo, different. In the minor arcana, Wands are the Fomori people, and represent the air element, unlike other decks where they are associated with fire. They represent human activity and the direction East. The 10 of Wands is called The Tribute.

The word “tribute” comes from Latin and means “pay” or “allot.” Like your allotted burden or task, or paying someone a certain portion, you can only take so much before you hurt or bankrupt yourself. As my father always says: “All things in moderation.”

The Romans were very fond of tributes which were a bit like a tax, or a submissive payment for security. Interestingly, the word “distribute” comes from the word “tribe” which was classically the three divisions of ancient Romans. That might come from “tri” meaning three as well. The three tribes of Rome were each headed by a tribune and had ten voting wards. So tributes were introduced from these political, religious, and military tribes and eventually this Roman system evolved into 35 tribes. Too many tribes, like wands, can be taxing. So much of our language and custom comes from Rome.

And the Fomori were a semi-divine race who inhabited Ireland in ancient times, they were the original race. They seem to be associated with the sea and other water. Their demon king was Balor, the god of death, who was killed by his grandson Lug or Lugh. I just noticed that “mori” is Latin for death, and Balor was connected to death, although none of the sites I looked at seems to have noticed this connection, they morph through older Indo-European words with other meanings to explain the title.

Interestingly, Lugh’s mother gave birth to triplets, but Balor threw them into the ocean and only Lugh was saved. The triplets remind me of the original Roman tribes.

And so on.

Für die, die sich wundern – da ich nicht mehr in dem KiLux-Zusammenhang die Community betreue, habe ich nun auch die Community-Liste von Abonnenten entleert. Wie ihr ja sicher wisst, gibt es seit geraumer Zeit eine Neue Liste für die LUG Kiel bei Yahoo.

Software Freedom Day en Paraná / Cronograma de actividades

Día del Software Libre: mañana sábado, Elefante Multiespacio, San Martín 1467.

A través del Grupo de usuarios de GNU/Linux de Paraná (LugParana) reiteramos la invitación para este 19 de septiembre a partir de las 16 horas en Elefante Multiespacio, para celebrar el Día de la libertad del software o Software freedom day (SFD). La entrada es libre y gratuita! Y aprovechando, les informamos del cronograma de actividades previsto para esta actividad.

16:00 horas: presentación de LugParana, motivos por el festejo del SFD.
16:30 horas: “Introduciendo al software libre y las nuevas formas de distribución de la cultura”. Ezequiel Caridad
17:15 horas: “Resolución de problemas en GNU/Linux” Diego Rucci
18:00 horas: “Mi compu funciona sin Windows!” Cristian Ramirez
18:45 horas: Espacio para debate, preguntas y agradecimientos y nos vamos a tomar unas cheves con pizzas.

Cabe destacar que en simultaneo con estas disertaciones, se realizarán demostraciones de equipos funcionando con software libre.
