LUKE MINX - a kid fresh from Kansas City with a lot to say. I speak through my music. So like any other artist hear me out. Music is made to be enjoyed and learn from. I’m just a kid telling my story and making music to relate to people around the world.

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. — Luke Minx appeared on American Idol just a few weeks ago. He made it to group week in Hollywood, but ultimately, he was let go.

“Once you make it to group night, you’re up all night, and that can do a lot to your performance,” Luke said.

Luke says while he was in Hollywood, he got to know Joe Dahman, a Missouri Western football player and Idol contestant.

“It was nice to have someone from home that I could talk to,” Luke said.

Plus Luke said the celebrities on set provided some support.

“They’re nice people, and the further you got along in the process, the more you kind of got to talk to them off set and get to know them a little more,” he said.

If you’re wondering, he says they look just as beautiful in person as they do on television.

Luke credits the show with giving him exposure.

“After the experience, I can’t be bitter at all for the T.V. show allowing me to be on public television,” Luke said.

He credits his upbringing, however, for guiding him through the obstacles of becoming a star.

“Not to be biased, but where I’ve grown up, I love the people here in the Midwest. I love Kansas City,” he said.

HARRISONVILLE, Mo. — The first time American Idol contestant Joe Dahmen ever sang in front of an audience, it was for his family who live in Harrisonville, Mo.

Dahmen has made it this far through American Idol: Season 11. He grew up in Harrisonville but is now a student and a football player at the Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph.  Dahmen says he’s unique because he’s an athlete who loves to sing.

He says his favorite idol contestant was Carrie Underwood because of her beautiful voice and because she’s one of the most beautiful women he’s ever seen.

Dahmen’s family hopes he will perform Thursday night on American Idol. Good luck, Joe!

GRAIN VALLEY, Mo. — Lee’s Summit North alumni Luke Minx made an appearance on American Idol on Thursday night, and his family here in the metro couldn’t be more proud.

GRAIN VALLEY, Mo. – Hey, David Cook – one of your local fans is following in your footsteps.

Luke Minx from Grain Valley, a graduate of Lee’s Summit North, just got his golden ticket to Hollywood on Thursday night’s American Idol.  His family says it’s a trip that’s been 19 years in the making.

Luke Minx used to skip birthday parties as a kid to perform on the stage.  Singing, dancing, and acting aren’t just hobbies, they’re his passion, and it runs in the family.

“We met each other in high school, in choir.  I think I fell in love with her voice first and then her,” Matt Minx, Luke’s dad, said about how he met Luke’s mom, Leslie.

His whole family sings, but they admit he probably has the most talent to make it big.

“Best pop voice in the family,” said his brother, Nick.

His family was thrilled when he announced he was going to St. Louis to try out for American Idol, but he played a little trick on them.

“He goes yeah, I’m sorry, I didn’t even get to audition,” Leslie Minx recalled.

Luke’s mom was crushed thinking her son with such an enormous talent made the trip without getting to try out for his dream gig.

“He said I’ll show you all my pictures, and he showed me the last one, and it was of him holding his pass to go back,” Leslie laughed.

Luke got the golden ticket for Hollywood.  His family thinks Luke has what it takes to make it to the top.

“It was the best feeling that I’ve ever had,” Luke remembered.

“Just basically it’s been everything that I’ve been doing my entire life, with music, but now I’m getting all the exposure that I’ve always wanted,” Luke said.

His family knows the limelight won’t change him.

“He’s so like down to earth, so humble, I think, plus he has his family to keep him down too,” Luke’s sister, Tara joked.

A family who will cheer him on from Grain Valley while he’s chasing his dream on the Idol stage.

Right now, Luke’s taking a leave of absence from college, Point Park University in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, a performing arts school.  The school’s allowing him to keep his scholarship as he goes through the American Idol process.
