Chi-Town stand up! Lupe Fiasco’s new “Enemy of the State Mixtape” is fire! Lupe has come consistent with dropping ill albums and his mixtapes are no difference (I need to hear some Kick, Push right now actually). You can d/l the new mixtape right HERE.

Hip-Hop has always had a big staple in the city and suburbs of Chicago but never really got the recognition it deserves outside of Chicago. One reason for the city being known as “Haterville!” Besides the fact that once everyone sees someone from the city become a success they want to bring the next man down or that person doesn’t want to always help the next man up.

While with Chicago Day on MTV Jams this past Friday November 28, 2009 it showed we could unite each other in the city and bring each other up rather then bring each other down. One of my homies I know Andrew Barber who runs the popular blog site http://FakeShoreDrive.com was a big contributor to helping us get this day for Chicago Hip-Hop.

It was real good to see this happen as CLASSIC videos from Chicago Hip-Hop pioneers such as Twista, Common, Do Or Die, Crucial Conflict, R. Kelly, Donnell Jones and Da Brat where played throughout the day.  As well as videos from upcoming great Chicago Hip-Hop acts like Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Skooda Chose, Rhymefest, Cool Kids, GLC, Kidz In The Hall, Shawnna and more where also played.

This was a great platform for a lot of the great talents of Chicago Hip-Hop I have known and seen growing up finally get some national recognition they very well deserve.   I think it also shows the diversity of different great music we have in Chicago Hip-Hop.  If you didn’t catch any of it to you could catch a special Sucker Free Countdown also dedicated to Chicago tomorrow November 29, 2009 on MTV 2 at 6pm.

Lupe Fiasco recently dropped a Mixtape over the Internet with Freestyles over several Beats.

I picked out the best Freestyles that Lupe killed and mixed them with the Originals to make them sound even doper.

I want to take the time out to speak to those dudes that love to debate. I know dudes that have very different taste from mine when it comes to rap. Different is always good. I do different.

For a long time I couldn’t understand how anyone could like (MF) Doom. Recently, I’ve grown to appreciate his music. It’s purely about artistry. It’s not about trends and charts. There is, essentially, nothing like it. That’s when “different” is good.

Lupe Fiasco can be considered another one of those “types”. It’s more than rap. I’d be lying if i said i liked everything he puts out, but it’s a good vibe. It’s a art I feel safe in supporting.

What I can’t get with is rappers (and more so their fans), that base their careers on “different” without the artistry. If you have to preach about how unlike the mainstream your are, well…you haven’t said shit to me.

Some fans of this kind of music and mentallity carry the same trait. It’s the, “I was up on them when no one f@cked with them.” mentality. Phonte said it best when he spoke about the lack of mainstream success for the group Little Brother. “Some just want to take us home and keep us in they little box.”

I keep my mind open to anything, but if I’m not feeling it…I’m just not feeling it. iT’s not hate or regional bias. You don’t know how many times I’ve been told to check out this ” ” artist. My thirst for hip-hop is never quenched, so I do so eagerly.

The end result is some “Dj Cat Show Shirt Wearing Ass nigg..”. His objective is usually one of the following:

- Angry Thug/Political Activist mad at people for dancing…

- Microphone Scientist who tosses big words around (with little to no point); and anyone who isn’t feeling it…just doesn’t understand.

- Mainstream reject who aims for radio play with every song but just sounds like a parody of it all.

Am I asking for too much? I too search for “different”, but I am a little more cautious in my investing. I discovered the music of Jay Electronica and Joell Ortiz a while back. They are nice! And that will not go unignored in any case. Those are good refferals for hip-hop fans.

That wack shit some dudes hop on is just a reflection of their own shame as an social outcast. (Boooom!!!)

We all have “different” taste. I respect that, but when it’s up for debate…YOU WILL LOSE EVERYTIME.

p.s. Recently MTV leased a Top Ten Hip Hop MC’s list but Lupe Fiasco’s name was oddly absent.  In my humble opinion (and very obviously) this is Lupe’s claim for his seat in the ivory towers of Hip Hop…AND Lupe’s REVENGE is a death threat to those on the MTV list…

In anticipation of Lupe’s new album LASERS, set to release December 15 Lupe released his new mixtape “Enemy of the State” yesterday. The release is a one track cassette style mixtape (download after the break), it sets a good a example of where he is at creatively and lyrically. Personally I’m glad it dropped, however it’s just frustrating that we’re still waiting for LASERS, but I guess that will only make the new album that much better to enjoy. Lupe will also drop a mixtape on Christmas day titled “Friend of the People”

Lupe Fiasco released the first of two mixtapes today entitled Enemy of the State: A Love Story. After MTV burned him by excluding Fiasco from an inane “Top Ten Rappers” list, the Chi-town native has fired back with further proof he has got it going on. As of now, the second mixtape will be called Friend of the People and will hit the public on Christmas day. Look out y’all, everyone’s favorite skateboarding MC is sample-dropping like a man scorned.

So, Lupe Fiasco put out a mixtape today. Yeah, a mixtape. The same thing that Lupe once said that he wasn’t going to do anymore. But it doesn’t matter. I’m liking the fact there’s new Lupe out now, but I haven’t heard any new singles for his new album. Ah well.

The tape, Enemy of the State: A Love Story, is pretty much a short tape of small freestyles over different song. While I am happy it’s new Lupe, I can’t say it’s super dope either. Ahh well. Here’s the songs I like:
