僕が離職を決意した最大要素は、何だったのか。

答えを出せないまま、不毛に悩み続けてきた。

自身に対する現状不満が有った。

会社に対する現状不満も有った。

もしかすると、不満が先行した結果、夢や目的が後付けで作り上げられていったのかもしれない。

そうなれば初志貫徹は難しい。

僕は何かがブレたまま、半生を生きることになるだろう。

今、少しだけ思い出したのは、自分への気づきだった。

20年余りの歳月を経て、自分という性質の片鱗を理解したのだ。

人より随分遠回りをしたが、僕はようやくそこに辿り着いたのだった。

決定打は、知的労働に向性があることに気づいた瞬間だった。

知的労働を我が生業とす

As an avid music fan, I love anything to do with music. The other day, I was at a small “unplugged” session held at my school. On that particular day, I found myself more interested in the crowd than the music itself. You see, in a crowd, diversity is the key-different people, different faces!

What i found amusing that day was all the not known and misheard lyrics all around me. It’s fun to be a part of the crowd in a music session. It’s uplifting and highly amusing! Ever heard what the person next to you is singing? They start off humming, not quite sure of the words. Then, sings loudly just as they get the hang of it. Some hits a high note only to scream out the wrong word. While some shrug it off and keeps singing the wrong words others get back to their humming tone. It is funny, really, if you can catch what they are saying. I mean, who wouldn’t smirk if the person next to them is saying, “we don’t need no education, we don’t need no birth control!”

Of course, someone who sees me smiling like a goof during a Pink Floyd song will question my mental well being but if only they knew. So, the next time, if you ever find yourself at a music concert, do keep a look out for misheard lyrics. You might be standing next to the next Weird Al Yankovic!

Ezenkívül új zenét tettem ki baloldalra. Ezúttal a Secondhand Serenade – Maybe című száma került ki. Először nem ezt a számot akartam kitenni hanem egy sokkal lassúbbat, de inkább ez mellett döntöttem. A választásom először a következő számra esett:

A Secondhand Serenade az amerikai énekes-gitáros John Vesely szóló projektje. 2004 környékén kezdett el írni számokat, ám első albuma, melynek címe “Awake” (ébredés) csak 2005-ben jelent meg. John San Fransisco-i Bay Area-ban született, apja profi jazz zenész volt, így a zene természetes volt az életében. 8 évig basszusgitározott egy helyi bandában, mely elég sok zenei stílust ötvözött a ska-tól a hardcore-on át a pop-osabb rockig. 8 év után kilépett, és saját szólóénekesi karrierje számára kezdett el számokat írni, miután találkozott feleségével. Feleségére szerenádozott, ám ez basszusgitárral nem az igazi, így magához vett egy akusztikus gitárt, és annyira megtetszett neki, hogy inkább azon kezdett el játszani.

A Secondhand Serenade név eredete egyszerű: A serenade ugye szerenádot jelent, a secondhand pedig másodkezűt jelent, és arra utal, hogy sokan nem szerenádoznak, csak használják azokat.

John első albuma 2005-ben jelent meg, amit eredetileg csak demóként vettek fel, miután sikerült lefoglalni egy San Fransiscoi stúdiót pár napra. Csak akusztikus gitárt használt, illetve saját maga vokálozott az albumon. Az albumot a myspace-en és helyi koncertek által népszerűsítette. A cd-t eredetileg csak Paypal-os fiókon keresztül lehetett megrendelni neten keresztül, majd jött a TuneCore, végül az iTunes érdeklődésének köszönhetően oda is felkerült. Útja felfelé ívelt, hiszen már 15000 lemezt adott el, a myspace-en elérte az 1.000.000 játszottságot, és egy közösségi portál a hónap független előadájának is választotta. Végül leszerződőtt Daniel Glassel a Glassnote Records-hoz, miközben a Rolling Stone megválasztotta a 3. legjobb myspace előadónak. Ekkor már 2006-ot írtunk.

Hivatalosan, stúdió keretek között felvett albumként az “Awake” 2007-ben jelent meg, és a Bilboard listán egyből a 16. helyen nyitott. Az albumról egyetlen maxi készült a “Vulnerable” című számból, ennek klipjét Frank Borin rendezte, aki többek között a Red Hot Chili Peppers Dani California című klipjét is jegyzi.

Második albuma, a “Twist In My Story” 2008-ban jelent meg, egy évvel és 13 nappal az “Awake” után. A számokat John írta, de az albumra egy egész zenekar segítségével játszották fel. A producer egyébként változott, ezúttal Butch Walkerrel dolgozott együtt, aki a Nine Inch Nails-szel, és Danny Lohrer-rel is dolgozott. Az első maxi erről az albumról a “Fail For You” volt, mely 2008 január 21-én jelent meg. Érdekesség, hogy az album már egy hónappal a megjelenés előtt letölthető volt internetről, ugyanis valaki ellopta a felvételeket. Márciusban és áprilisban a Vesely  az amerikai Atomic Lovetterrel, a The White Tie Affairrel, és a Making Aprillel turnézott, a koncerteken pedig segített neki az a zenekar, akikkel az albumot is felvették. John Harvey basszeron, Lucas Vesely (John testvére) billentyűn, Alex Sier szólógitáron és Tom Breyfoggle dobokon játszott.
