Meet the flagship of Apple’s recent flurry of patent activity, a product some have been predicting Apple would release for years: the Mac tablet. This slate-format tablet is as portable as a MacBook Air, but with a twist: It also docks into an iMac for regular desktop work. This is no stuffy PC tablet; expect a fully thought-out interface and a specialized Mac OS update—as well as a treasure trove of innovations that could take this tablet from cool to downright phenomenal.

Based on existing technology, the tablet would feature iPhone-like multitouch, spanning the entire screen. Flitting through images and albums will be as easy as it is on the iPhone and the latest MacBook touchpads. And new gesturing patents granted this year will continue to add capabilities, assigning new functions to more multifinger gestures, full-palm gestures, and stylus data-entry.

When you’re not mobile, the Mac tablet docks into an iMac-like chassis. This may seem mundane at first, but don’t count on Apple leaving this as a simple, dumb display, with a relatively underfeatured tablet shouldering all of workload. Tucked inside this custom iMac you’ll find a larger, secondary hard drive (for extra storage or automatic backups), a beefed-up graphics chip, or even an extra processor, giving the tablet a power boost befitting a workstation. -MacLife

Just came across a very interesting article on the net that talks about Apple driving developers away from its App Store. Huh!!! Is that possible? After all Apple and it’s iPhone/iPod are supposed to be the best thing that has ever happened to the world. The truth is actually quite different my friends.

At one point the iPhone was probably the best platform for mobile applications. But the situation is quite different now. RIM’s Blackberry, Google’s Android and Palm’s WebOS have all changed the dynamics of the game. Consumers and mobile app developers have a lot of choice now. All the operating systems are quite capable and worthy and some of them are actually easier to develop for. For example if you want to develop for the Android or the Palm Web OS all you need is the SDK and a computer running Windows, Linux or Mac OS. But if you want to develop for the iPhone you need to have an Apple Mac computer. Ridiculous!!! What were they thinking? By constraining the development environment you are already alienating some of the developers.

The thing that takes the cake is Apple’s policies for applications that can be hosted on the App Store. In fact there is a clear lack of a consistent policy and every application, and by extension the developer, is at the mercy of the whims of an Apple employee. So if the Apple person reviewing your application on a particular day had a harrowing time tackling brutal traffic, or just learnt that his/her partner is cheating on him, then you could be doomed. Your application would be rejected for some seemingly vague reasons. And I am not pulling something out of thin air here, this has happened….on multiple occasions….and continues to happen even today. So here’s the million dollar question:

Who the f&*^ is Apple to decide what I can run on my iPhone/iPod ?

In some of my previous posts I had talked about how Apple might be losing developers if it does not get it’s act together. Here are a few of them:

In fact Apple has started losing developers. Check out this article. Most of the fanboys would be quick to dismiss this as a one off case of disgruntled developers. Probably true now but how long would this take to snowball into something bigger? More importantly can Apple afford to take a hit to their reputation? Google Android and the Web OS have opened up development to all and their store policies are more lenient towards developers. So what does Apple have to gain? The iPhone on Verizon seems to be a distant dream specially with the Motorola Droid faring quite well. Looks like it might pretty much be all downhill from here for the iPhone.

Whenever I hear someone mention the movie “Sophie’s Choice” my throat gets tight and I feel the water works about to burst. If you haven’t seen that movie then  I am afraid you have not experienced the joys of watching the true essence of acting on film.

On November 11 I had the opportunity to see Meryl Strep in the flesh along with Jason Schwartzman and one of my favorite directors Wes Anderson.  They were gathered together at the Apple Store in Soho to give a talk  moderated by the incredible Peter Travers (famous movie critic from Rolling Stone Magazine) about their new cinematic venture “Fantastic Mr. Fox”.

“Fantastic Mr. Fox” is an adapted animation  directed by Wes Anderson.

The original “Fantastic Mr. Fox” is a book written by the late great Roald Dahl.

It features the voices of George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray and Owen Wilson. It is the first animated film directed by Wes Anderson, and 20th Century Fox’s first stop-motion animated film.

I enjoy filmmakers who are unabashed and think outside of the box . The Squid and the Whale

and

The Darjeeling Limited

are two amazing films so I have no doubt that Anderson will deliver the goods for “Fantastic Mr. Fox.

There were some interesting bits of info revealed during the talk.  Wes Anderson shared that his major cinematic influences are Spike Lee’s “She’s Gotta Have It.

and his Futura font obsession was influenced by  Stanley Kubrick.

During the question and answer period Anderson told the audience that “Fantastic Mr. Fox” was shot using a SLR camera.

For a true film geek like myself this is a tasty tidbit of information to have. Wes shared that the resolution on a  SLR camera is extremely potent. Every frame for every action was captured by a camera that a lot of  people use while snapping pictures on their family vacations.

Jason Schwartzman was the comedic man of the hour. He was cracking witty jokes left and right. I was totally digging his greasy haired nerdy/sexy/ugly swagger.

Although Schwartzman’s hijinks were throughly amusing the highlight of the evening was Meryl. Let me keep it real: It was the reason why I stood up for half an hour. She’s the Bees Knees, the Cat’s Meow, and the FOXES Growl (she actually growled for the audience it was PRICELESS) rolled into one.  She is the quintessential actress.

The highlights were three-fold: 1st when Meryl did her best Fox growl. 2nd when she told the story of how she  had a starring contest with a real fox for 12 minutes while shooting another movie in London BEFORE she had received the offer for “Fantastic Mr. Fox”.  She said “I’ve never had such an amazing interaction with an animal before. My dog won’t even look at me for 5 minutes”.

3) When she told the photographers (who were incessantly snapping her picture and flashing lights in her face) to  CHILL OUT!  She stopped mid sentences while answering an audience member question and swung her head back a bit and gave a slight “round the way” girl neck roll and said in the most regal of voices “will you STOP taking pictures for just one minute please……. I am very distractable (which is not a word but it is MERYL so it can slide) I am trying to hear the question.!” Hands down she should receive an Oscar nod for that performance alone.

According to Rolling Stone “Fantastic Mr. Fox” proves that PIXAR does not have a reign over animation. I whole heartedly second that emotion. Judging from the discussion and clips this animated feature will have PIXAR and DISNEY choking on some well deserved dust.

I heart Gadgets and Gizmos!

I just love learning about the latest and most innovative technology which is why I love Apple products so much.

I love my Mac Book and my iPhone like I believe I would unconditionally love a child if I had one.

They are the best investments I ever made in my entire life. My love of Apple products makes me a frequent guest at the Apple Store. The closest one to me is in Soho which is more like a cool lounge than a retail store. I am serious about this. First of all almost everyone who shops there is freaking adorable.  Cute men, women, babies, dogs, EVERYONE looks like they stepped off a runway. Second the events that are held at Apple are out of this world. Filmmakers, bands, authors, celebrities, everyone who is anyone has booked an appearance at the Apple Store in Soho. Last week I happened to pop in to check on the price of an adapter when I saw that a concert was going to take place in about 10 minutes. I saw the poster for the band but I had never heard of them before.

I was a bit curious so I thought to myself  ”I’ll stick around for the first song if they suck I am totally out of here”.

Music is my first love. At the age of 5 my Mother had my sister and I taking piano lessons. My love for music is so deep  I have learned to discern whether I like  a piece of music within the first 30-45 seconds of hearing it. When I heard Parachute play “She is Love” I instantly fell head over heels.

I thought to myself “I love this! It sounds so familiar like I’ve heard this song before.. on a commercial or something??”

My hunch was right. I had heard that song before and so have most of you who watch TV. The hit song “She is Love” was featured on a commercial for Nivea skin cream.

I stayed for the entire concert. Every song was engaging. I have to be honest it definitely helps that the band is super cute. Everyone knows I enjoy eye candy but really who doesn’t? I also noticed that these dudes had a genuine sense of camaraderie and it emanated through their sound. I am also a fan of bleeding heart love songs sung by men.  That is why I am a particular fan of the guy groups from the 60-70’s. The men from back in the day wrote heart wrenching love songs about their women and you could feel their hearts bleeding unto the record. A prime example of  this is the track “What am I Waiting For” – 1975 by the O’Jays.

Now this is a song about a man who is in PAIN over his broken heart because his woman up and left him. Actually according to the song she walked out on him and the only thing she left him “was the dog , the cat, a fork and spoon”.

DAAAYYYUUUMM that’s PRICELESS

Parachute is reminiscent of the heart-felt essence of man bands from back in the day. The genre of music they perform is not R&B but at the crux of it  is an undeniable passion and there is definitely some sweet blue-eyed soul going on within Parachute. My favorite song off their album “Losing Sleep” is “All that I Am”.

It’s not surprising that these guys have soul. They have southern roots and hail from Charlottesville, Virginia . The members graduated from college in May 2008 and since then have been touring and promoting their debut album Losing Sleep full-time. This band has got the right stuff and I predict a long and fruitful future in the music business. Their songs are climbing the charts and have been on commercials, and TV shows like One Tree Hill and  90210.

After the concert at Apple they met with members of the audience. This was an indication of their humble and great personalities. Not every band who performs at Apple  opens lines of communication with the audience. I had the chance to chat it up with Nate (Guitar/Vocals), Will the (Lead singer/Guitar/Keys ) and Kit (saxophone/Keys/Vocals & my personal favorite… call me please.. I’m totally serious).

They are so personable and funny. I felt like we had gone to high school together and we were catching up on old times.

I haven’t used the home PC in a longlong time – and since my old faithful apple (imissyou ibook !) died, I have been plonking away on dad’s verysmall laptop that has been fab so far.! And I must say I have grown vv fond of it= It’s sooo light + mini that I can put it in my handbag and work anywhere anytime hurhur! But it’s not mine – and tobefair, poor daddy’s using the horridly slow PC so it’s time I got my own! Today I caught it hanging/stalling/ and had to reinstall the scanner… it was frustrating!

SOoooo this leads me to the most impt qtn: shd i get the new MACBOOK OR MACBOOK PRO?

i’m set on the iphone as well (cos of my atrocious phonebills and di’s wonderful data plan!) but it’s now all about waiting to see when my current contract ends. hurhur – ican’twait! We’ll still have to hold a serious discussion with @ktham1 on that one because I’m on a starhub plan (And am overpaying !!) BUT I think I’ll hv to make the jump and switch carriers. Well, we’ll see.

ems .. sebenernya enggak harus mac book juga sih.. pengen aja gitu punya laptop sendiri ditenteng kemana-mana asik banget yekan? pertama jelas bakal ada privasi lah, yah mengingat komputer dirumah itu dipakai bersama pastinya banyak yang buka yekan. udah gitu kalo punya laptop sendiri bisa ngapain aja (dan bisa dibawa kemana-mana – ini yang penting hem). cuman hal ini bisa menunggu lah, udah punya komputer, lumayan canggih lah bisa maen the sims 3 (dengan settingan standar) tanpa gangguan berarti (kata kakak gue harusnya sih begitu).

NAAAH kalo yang ini gue kepengen banget! hauhauhau ini keren banget sumpaaah. bisa baca dimanapun kapanpun tanpa menenteng buku berat-berat yaampun bener-bener impian deh ahaha. kalo ada yang pink malah tambah seru lagi ahai hemeh.

aduh miris rasanya melihat fakta bahwa the sims yang tertanam di komputer masih the sims 2 university (sial deh yg the sims 2 pet dst nya itu error terus kalo diinstall grr). MAU THE SIMS TIGA hemeh. padahal udah keluar tinggal beli loc cuman enggak tau kenapa ya enggak beli-beli juga. hayah entaran deh kalo gue sedang berada di tempat yang tepat gue beli hemeh. ps : sasa, kok bisa ilang cd nyaa?

4. red mango (fro-yo)

ENAK BEUDD. aduh kepengen ini lagi setelah enggak boleh makan ginian sekitar dua setengah bulanan lah. uououo asemnya pas creamynya mantap mochinya enak strawberry nya so sweet uououo~. harga? ahaha yak itu dia harganya agak kurang masuk akal yaitu 39ribu. anyway 39 ribu itu terbayar lunas dan impas dengan rasa red mango ini. ps : sarah fitria, ayo kita makan red mango lagi

5. sushi

dari semua yang gue tulis diatas, gue PALING PENGEN sama yang ini. aaaaaaa lama banget gue enggak makan sushi dan sekarang rasa kangennya udah tidak tertahankaaan. yaampun salmon roll tuna roll tersayang gue pengen makan itu semua aaaaaa. hik sekarang gue udah boleh tinggal nyari waktu yang tepat aja. hemeh kemaren sebenernya bisa tuh hari jumat eh malah kena flu wek. okay, my priority now is to eat this yummy food again!

We can’t even sit here and act like we ‘re mad because at the end of the day,we all own either of the items mentioned above. This weekend was the Henrys Photographic and Digital Imaging show at the International Centre in Mississauga.  Twice a year Henry’s hosts the 3rd biggest photography trade show in the world, bringing together all the major manufacturers in the industry, and Canada’s largest photography retailer.  I was lucky enough not only to attend the show, but also to be part of the Henry’s sales force for the weekend.  Selling at the show is a unique challenge.  It is VERY fast paced and 11 hour work days with only brief breaks for 3 days in a row can really take a toll on you.  The show was a huge success and we had great attendance and some awesome product launches.  We were the first in Canada to have the Canon G11 available, and the Canon 7D w/ 15-85 lens were available at the show as well.

Most importantly to me were the deals on Apple products!  As I’m sure you know, Apple computers are VERY rarely on sale, and usually only go on sale after they have been superseded by new models in the market.  Show discounts were specific to the model, but turned out to be roughly 10% off, with another 5% off if you paid with a Henry’s Advantage card.  Naturally I couldn’t turn down a deal like that and I brought home a brand new 15″ 2.8Ghz MacBook Pro.  I love this thing!!   It’s the first Apple computer I’ve ever owned and only the 3rd Apple product, but I’m officially hooked.  It’s super sleek, crazy fast, very stylish and wonderfully engineered.  I knew when I got my iPhone that it would turn out to be a gateway drug and I was right, its all Apple for me now.

Having said that, Windows 7 became available today.  I’ve heard some good things about it, and Windows is still the worlds most popular operating system, so a new release is a big deal even for a (newly) self proclaimed Apple guy.  Hopefully they’ve solved all of the annoying stability issues from Windows Vista.  The PC I just replaced still had Windows XP on it because I refused to upgrade, knowing that Vista was full of problems.

Halloween is just over a week away!!   What are you doing to celebrate?  I’ve heard a few people mention that they are too old to dress up, and its too bad for them that they feel that way.  Find a few friends who are up for some fun and get dressed up, its a total blast!   I’ll be going out with a group of friends on Friday night, only to go to work (in costume!) on Saturday, and then go out again Saturday night.  It’s going to be a busy but awesome weekend.  And what am I dressing up as you might ask?  Two Face from Batman!  It’s going to be so much fun!  The four of us that are going out together are all dressing as Batman villains.  Two Face, Joker, Poison Ivey, and Harley Quinn.  If you have any suggestions on where to party in Toronto on Saturday I’d love to hear them.  I’ll have some pics up of that weekend as soon as possible.  It’s going to give me a great opportunity to try out my new MacBook Pro on some legitimate photo editing.

On that note I also have an exciting shoot planned.  I can’t divulge details right now but there should be some great photos coming out of it.  I haven’t been doing any shooting lately and I’m really excited to get back in the swing of things.  A few of the guys at Henry’s in Mississauga where I’m working now also go out shooting on a lot of evenings, so I’ll be joining them from time to time as well.

That’s it for now, I’m sure I have more to talk about but I really should spread things out a bit.  More pictures and blogging to come!

Heute früh bin ich zuerst bei basicthinking, später dann überall über den Prototypen des Courier gestolpert. Bei Netzwelt bin ich stutzig geworden, weil der Screenshot auf einem, richtig, Mac gemacht wurde. Ein bisschen peinlich, oder?

Zuerst, auch wenns nicht zuletzt mich traurig macht, es ist ein Prototyp. Punkt. Zweitens, meiner Meinung nach ein wirklich hübsches Stück. Bleibt zu hoffen das es nicht am Betriebssystem scheitert.

This entry starts off on a personal note.  I will say I am beyond excited, because I was able to speak with the in-laws and all is well with them, but they had something to share with me…a surprise!  They wanted to send me to go see my husband over in Texas.  As most the readers know, I have not seen him since he deployed for military training over five months ago.  In all this excitement, I was able to speak to my father-in-law…a very rare privlage.  Why do I say that?  I more than admire him.  His intelligence is so vast beyond what I have ever known any other persons (including all my professors).  A short history on him would include: engineer for the Navy, Chief Engineer for GE (retired), and is now a physics teacher for a private high school (just so he’s not bored).  He’s a vey silent man who sits and observes his surroundings.  I thought he hated me when I first met him, but when we discovered we had a technology connection…it was smooth sailing.

That connection although, may have been compromised as of recent.  While speaking with him last night, the school he teaches with is practically all paperless and every student carries a Mac Book /Pro (The screen on the Mac can be changed by just tapping -software- the side of the screen; therefore, many of the students are not even on the class sites).  As an educator,  a professional in  engineering (submarines), and keeping a company like GE together, it is irritating when the students are all just lazely touching the side of their Macs as he walks about the room giving his lesson.  The amount of disrespect is very annoying.  I tried to find more information on the school’s site about their current technology trend, but they do not recognize it as an important enough value to make it a point in which to brag about.  Unlike Kentucky, technology in California private schools is a little more readily available and not as special.  Apparently the need to site it on the internet is not necessary. 

One other oversite on the whole from “good” to worse in technology movement…the Mac keyboard.  Their keys are soft coated; therefore, when a semester of teaching is over, and you have finished using a decent amount of time on the dry erase board, your Mac keys are also black.  That was just the educator’s complaint that was thrown in there.   There is a solution to this, magic crayola remover!!!

Today while I was at work I decided to bring my laptop with me to work on a few things inmy extended essay. Unfortunately where I work has no wifi so I could only work with the research I previously had. Throughout the 6 hours that I was there I had so many urges to either check my twitter or facebook, I found myself angered by the fact that I couldn’t. Is this normal?

It is unbelievable to think that our generation has become some reliant on technology in these recent years. If oyu ask the average person they can’t go a few hours without wanting to update their facebook status or let everyone on twitter know “what they’re doing”. I am guilty of this like I said. Although I wish that I was not so reliant on technology, I know that now there is really no way to tone down my usage of it. When I hear my parents or adults talking about how children are so spoiled and have everything handed to them, I have to agree. We do have things a lot easier then people in the past, but this is expected. We don’t set out wanting things to stay the same and not wanting to progress in technology and our ways of life. These changes are dure to these progressions. We aren’t expected to only use our cell phones for “emergencies” or to only use our computers for school work alone. To think that we would do this would be setting our selves up for disaster. As companies continues to update their items and become  much more high tech (I phone, Mac book), we naturally want it. It is obvious that if you have the choice between a simple flip phone or a blackberry with a touch screen,keyboard,and full access to the internet, we are going to choose the high tech phone.

Sometimes I just find myself rambling and I have to remind myself to “rap it up” and just say what I mean. To think about how far we come poses the question, where will we go from here? It is almost hard to believe that we can make anymore progress in technology and the things that we know. Because I am a teenager of only 17, I will hopefully be around to see all of these new changes throughout the years. It will be amazing to see what the genious minds of our time will come up with next.

Ok so this week so far has not been the most productive musically- they do happen every now and again even if you love writing- laziness kicks in!! Well, I did email and do some research about songwriting and publishers so that was something. Mostly this week I have battled the scariest of foes…….a massive spider!

So I was curled up on my sofa, feeling a bit poorly because of a cold that has rendered me pathetic for the past four days. I decided I need a good laugh, something to cheer me up and take my mind off the fact that my head feels like its made of lead! So I put on Ferris Buellers Day Off– what a film!! Incredible!

So the agile Ferris was jumping fences, ducking suburban obstacles to try and get home before his parents, his sister AND Mr. Rooney discover he wasn’t sick but out in New York for the day…..when the spider fella scuttled from under my telly towards the cozy nest I had made for myself on the couch! He drove me to my bedroom and I didn’t see if Ferris made it!! Doh!

I woke up the next day, getting ready for work and he was there AGAIN! My nemesis! In the bath…I wasn’t going to pick him up and he was too big to wash down the plughole….! He beat me again and I had to wash my hair in the sink!!

I had the last laugh though as Taryn came hope from her jog and drowned him-

Sorry about that, nothing to do with music! That was the bizarre event of my week…until today!

So so so so excited! I am finally getting a Mac today! I saved up for so long and now it has finally paid off! This means I have decent equipment to record my songs on, so I can finally put some up for you to hear. It means all sorts of new and exciting possibilities including more regular blog posts so i can access the internet at home!! The joy!! Yay!

So that’s the news! See there is some musical content to this post– it is merely dwarfed by my spider experience.

So the good news is I have a brand new Mac on its way! The bad news is my intellectual equivalent and nemesis is a big hairy spider– one for the self-esteem!
